Someone to Love Tracy Corbett

Rate this book
It’s hate at first sight for the wedding planners…
It’s down to maid of honour Beth and best man Matt to plan a dream wedding for the absent bride and groom. Not only do they have to handle the bride’s sky-high expectations and their respective dysfunctional families, they also have to deal with each other – and so far, it’s not going well.

Fire-fighter Matt is far too laid-back for Beth’s liking, and Beth’s need to arrive half an hour early for everything is driving Matt crazy. But over the weeks, the arguing and animosity morphs into something else that feels fun and flirty…

With Beth’s father parading his new, half-his-age girlfriend around, her mother set on revenge, Matt’s family refusing to engage in the celebrations, and an addled grandmother thrown in the mix, is there any way Beth and Matt can make the wedding a success?

A funny and heartwarming romantic comedy for fans of Jo Watson and Sophie Ranald.

Tracy grew up in Berkshire as part of a large and noisy family. She now lives in a small village in Surrey with her motorbike-loving partner and her little rescue dog, Poppy. Prior to becoming an author, Tracy worked for the charity Citizens Advice for over twenty-five years. She held various different roles in her time there, including advising prisoners, representing clients in the County Court, and managing a local office. She worked with an amazing group of volunteers, who gave up their time freely to help their community. She also found it a great avenue for ‘people-watching’, something that as a writer, provided endless inspiration for character development and story ideas.

Since the age of eleven, Tracy has been actively involved in amateur dramatics and she’s acted in many productions, written sketches, and directed shows. Her first role was in Aladdin. She played a jewel in the genie’s cave and was told to ‘stand there and sparkle’ – not exactly taxing stuff. While most teenagers spent their free time obsessing with fashion, make-up, pop music and boys, Tracy would often be found prancing around the stage pretending to be Miss Muffet, Bessie the Milkmaid, and her personal favourite, Aurora the Goose. Adulthood brought with it more serious roles, such as Nora in The Dolls House and Maggie in Hobson’s Choice. She’s also played Viola in Twelfth Night and Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Her favourite role was Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley.

Tracy started writing in her late twenties, song lyrics, sketches for pantomimes, before discovering her love for novel writing. Over the years she’s written numerous short stories, a number of which have been published in My Weekly magazine. She’s also been short-listed for several writing competitions, and won 1st prize in the Southern Daily Echo Feature Article competition. In 2024, Tracy’s novel Only For Christmas won the prestigious RNA Festive/Holiday Award.

Tracy describes her writing style as modern tales of romance, with engaging quirky characters, who overcome adversity, grow as people, and conclude in a satisfying optimistic ending.

There was nothing particularly wrong with this book but there wasn’t anything spectacular about it either. It just was mid.

‘And we all know what happens between the maid of honour and the best man at weddings, don’t we?’

Well Beth & Matt were cute together and some moments between them were really sweet but this book was nothing special. Still, it was a good plot. The amount of family drama was so high that sometimes I just lost interest. There were detailed chapters about Beth's mother and the drama going on in her life and that kind of overshadowed Matt & Beth's storyline. Matt & Beth had so much potential not only as a couple but as individual characters too and it would've been nice if some parts of their life had been explored in detail rather than focusing so much on the unnecessary family drama. But overall, it was a cute and entertaining read.

Thank you Netgalley and Canelo Escape for the ARC

Gosh there is a lot to unpack here. Let’s start with the good - it’s a very well written novel, the characters are well rounded (if a little too many in number) and the dialogue is great. The storyline is also promising, an enemies to lovers trope, stuck planning a wedding that isn’t theirs, it’s a joyful plot.

However, there are some things I just couldn’t look past. The novel tackles male anorexia nervosa, fatphobia, drug, childhood trauma, manslaughter and suggests at domestic violence. It’s a lot to unpack and I feel the fatphobia and anorexia theme was poorly handled and didn’t hit the mark and wasn’t resolved adequately at all. The nail in the coffin for me is right at the end when our leading girl gets told how much prettier she looks without glasses, like she’s actually shamed for being shortsighted. Lots of people wear glasses - I wear glasses and it is no way a measure of attractiveness? I found it quite bizarre to be honest, the novel is full of archaic beauty standards that just don’t sit comfortably.
It’s a shame as the writing is great, I just couldn’t look past the eating disorder theme and beauty shaming.

Surprisingly fun read.

The characters were very well thought out and a lot of what happens to them almost reads like a soap opera which was both heartbreaking and laugh out loud funny at times.

The romance took a while to start but I'm glad as it made it all the more authentic. The only few parts i didn't like were to do with Beth's sister who i couldn't stand as a character.

Nice book.

A lot of characters to remember, had to keep going back to work out how they were related. Apart from that it was a good read.

funny romcom! It was obvious the 2 main characters were going to plan a wedding for their families and fall in love but I really enjoyed it!

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

This story was so much more complicated and serious than I was expecting - in a good way! Poor Beth, she has to deal with so much in this story but just keeps chugging along. I really liked her and was so glad when Matt finally saw what a great person she was. If ever someone deserved to have a nice guy in their life it's Beth. She and Matt may not have gotten off to a great start, but the parking lot and spilled hot drink will just be a great story to tell everyone at a future wedding anniversary. You really want to smack Beth's parents for putting her in the middle of their divorce drama. And then, if your hand isn't stinging too much from that, smack Megan too. Guilting your sister into planning your wedding for you and then dropping the huge bombshell about a Vegas wedding is pretty awful. Matt's backstory with his parents was handled really well. His father is probably the least self-aware human on the planet and I was so glad when his mother announced she was filing for divorce. Perhaps my favorite thing about this book was how Matt didn't give up on Beth even when she was throwing up walls and obstacles for them getting together. My only big complaint with this book is that there would be these huge moments between Matt and Beth and then the chapter ended and picked up on another day. For example, one chapter ends with them kissing and then we hear about the aftermath through Matt thinking about it later - I want to get to see it in the moment! Other than that, the story moves along pretty smoothly and the supporting characters certainly add something interesting to the story. I am really really hoping we get another book with these characters that focuses on Connie and Susan's lives as they move on from their respective divorces. I want to be sure they get another chance at falling in love with men who deserve them.

This was an enjoyable family drama/romance that told the story of two families coming together for a wedding. We meet Beth first and can I just say, poor bloody Beth. She seems to be responsible for the emotional well-being of her entire family, without anyone actually caring about her own! She put up with an awful lot from her family and at times I just wished she’d have put her foot down and said no!

I didn’t particularly like any of Beth’s family. Megan was the most selfish, self-centred and vain character! I did not see one genuine word of thanks from Megan to Beth for all that Beth had done for her! Planning a wedding is no easy task and Megan completely took it for granted that Beth did that for her. Kenneth was an absolute idiot! Alex needed to get a grip and grow up, and Connie wasn’t much better! Fortunately, I liked Matt’s immediate family (Susan and Leah) a lot more 🤣 I did like Beth but I felt her personality to be very split. One minute she was a ball busting family lawyer who stood for no crap and the next she was a weak and feeble mouse who couldn’t say no to anyone. I definitely think Matt helped her to open up a bit more though.

I liked Matt’s character although I wasn’t sure about the whole thing he had with food? Not sure it was a necessary addition to the plot, given that it wasn’t explored fully.

I did enjoy this book and I wanted to know how everything was going to work out with all of the different family members, but I wouldn’t say it blew me away. I read another book by the same author at the beginning of the year and enjoyed it a lot more than this one. That’s not to say I didn’t like this one because I did but I wasn’t crazily in love with it.

Thank you Tracy Corbett & Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

This book was a delight to read! Beth & Matt seemed like polar opposites, but once they started getting to know each other, they both found themselves to be kindred spirits, especially in their loyalty, love and dedication to their respective families. The slow burn is real though, which did frustrate me a bit, especially when they kept getting interrupted by some family drama or the other, but the hilarity that ensued with said interuptions soothed my despair.

Speaking of families, I thought mine got up to crazy shenanigans, but Beth and Matt's clearly take the cake, and I enjoyed reading every second of it! They were all unapologetically themselves, and they got up to some serious antics that Beth & Matt were left to manage, which made for a funny, laugh out loud read. I especially loved the underlying theme of empowerment and building one's self-esteem for the mums in the story, and I'm glad they each found their happily ever afters in their own special ways.

If you're a fan of fun rom-coms, family & wedding shenanigans and an opposite's attract romance, then this is the book for you!

NO SPOILERS

A super cute rom com which is perfect for a summery read. The Male main character and the female main character are the wedding planners for their respective groom and Bride but here's the catch, the wedding is chaotic, chaos is almost everywhere. The FMC and MMC hate each other, it's like hate at first sight. The bride has some secrets that will completely ruin the wedding. On top of that, the Bride dad's has a midlife crisis. This is also an enemies to lovers romance with little to no spice which also make it perfect for non smut readers as well. This book is so cute that we will get butterflies and end up kicking our feet. The tension builds up and finally did our main characters did their happy ending, did the wedding go well with the minimal planning of less than 3 months and were there any hearts broken in the process? Loved the way the story went on and loved the ending so freaking much and what makes it even cuter is that the MMC is such a golden retriever and the FMC is grumpy and reminded me so much of Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta from Brooklyn nine nine. A must read if you rom coms and enemies to lovers and this book is so fast paced and less than 400 pages and this makes it an easy read.

5/5 - any day.

Thanks to Canelo for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.

This is my first Tracy Corbett book, but if this is anything to go by, it definitely won’t be the last. I will certainly be looking through her back catalogue.

I know we don’t judge a book by its cover (except we totally do), but the cover of this one just screams happiness, love, joy, and happy endings. Which is exactly what was delivered. Sure, there’s a little predictability with some of the plot points, but is that a bad thing? Not for me. It might be for some people, but when I read this type of book – the happily-ever-after type – I expect a bit of drama, a bit of romance, but everything to be wrapped up nicely in a bow by the end. Which is exactly what I got from this book, and therefore it left me satisfied, happy, and warm. It’s like a giant hug in paperback form (or in my case, Kindle form).

It is rare I find a book where I like all the characters. Even the less popular ones had a certain charm about them that I couldn’t help but love. They all have their positives and negatives – even our two loving protagonists – but that’s what makes them more relatable for the reader.

I’ll admit, I did get a little confused at first with the quantity of characters and multiple point-of-views and who was related to whom, but it quickly worked itself out and flowed together nicely.

Whilst it doesn’t scream for a sequel or anything, I do wish there had been an epilogue or something set a year later, just so we could see what the characters had achieved in that time, and for me it would have wrapped their stories up nicely.

🌷 [ARC] someone to love by tracy corbett review 🌷

Thank you to @netgalley for sending me this ARC copy to read and review!

Someone to Love is a story of two people who have been pulled into an uncomfortable position; plan a wedding.

Together.

While I loved the concept of the story, and the messages the author relayed toward the reader, I found that the development of the story and romance was slightly slow. The romance felt rushed and when it was finally starting to grow, the book sped toward the ending. There was no time for that love between the two main characters to be shown to the readers ✨
It left me feeling underwhelmed.

Although the story and the romance disappointed me, I loved how the book was written! 😍 The different perspectives of the main characters and the side characters were great, the reader got a lot of views into the life of the characters within Someone to Love xx

As for Matt, one of our MCs, I loved how the author described him! Matt had some insecurities, and troubles he was dealing with. I appreciated this a lot because the man in a romance book can be made out as perfect and untroubled. It was refreshing to see a love interest with flaws, it made the book more realistic and real 🦋

I think Someone to Love had a lot of potential, but it fell short toward the end. I still loved the concept that the author wrote, and I’ll definitely keep my eyes open to her other books xx

This is my first time reading something by this author so I really didn't know what to expect when I picked this up. The story flowed nicely and the characters were interesting and fun. Beth and Matt were great characters and they had an undeniable connection. Although they were complete opposites, they were exactly what each of them needed and fit together well. The story was engaging and held my interest all the way through. As with all good stories, there is a bit of drama along with the romance but it all comes to a satisfying conclusion at the end. This was a sweet and fun, romance with endearing characters that's sure to put a smile on your face. Also, just had to mention the cover is really cute and is one which gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling of happiness, which is exactly what this story did. An easy and enjoyable read, and I am happy to have had the opportunity to review.

Beth and Matt are not friends, that's for sure, at the beginning of the novel. That's a quite an unusual start for a book about a bridesmaid and a best man in charge of completely planning together a wedding.

They are both very attaching characters, and it's really well written how their relationship evolves into love.

I really liked that Matt was

This book probably lost 1.5 star for me because of the abundance of characters and secondary plots .

I absolutely loved this book, especially because I didn't expect it to be this good. I just picked it up for a light read but it turned out more than that. I different than a lot of books in this genre. Firstly, I love the characters in this book, they are very well introduced and very well written as well. You get to understand almost all the characters. And each of the main character is given a great arch so that you can actually see the change in there character by the end of the book. The story is perfectly paced, not rushed at all, not repetitive and it doesn't get boring at any point in the novel.
This is a well written, heartwarming book.

Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC of Someone To Love. This is my personal review.
Planning a wedding should be done by the bride and groom but in this book the job fell to the maid of honor and best man. These two are complete opposites and then throw in the dysfunctional families it is going to be quite an experience for Beth and Matt to pull this wedding together.
The plot was well written and the experience of them planning the wedding puts them together a lot so the chemistry takes a while to click for them.
I look forward to reading more books by this author.

The second book in the series. It was nice to see how some of the characters got on after the first book.

Like the first book, it is well written with a good story. But I would have like more of Matt and Beth. Some chapters would end on a high, such as them kissing and the next chapter could be the next day with Beth's mother, who's own story told from her pov, was nearly equal to Beth and Matt. Their story is mostly are they interested in each other and only at the end do they decide to try.

Again, there is no epilogue, so hopefully, we will see how Beth and Matt are in the next book.

A quick, cute read about two friends who are planning their friends wedding as maid of honor and best man. This is a slow burn love story where the two main characters fall for each other over time. There are a lot of viewpoints and characters to keep up with, but it was a fun read.

The main cast of "Someone Like You" return as supporting characters for the union of the resident thespian and her make-up artist. Long story short, his dad is still a dick, and his mother isn't much better. Meanwhile, her dad has run off with a younger woman, her mother is vacillating between wanting to kill him and wanting to tear his clothes, and her sister is lumbered with most of the planning. Throw in a sexy firefighter, his jailbird father and his downtrodden mother and you have a recipe for one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Buckle up!

A very quick and easy read.

It seemed like a lot was going on, probably didn’t need all the side stories but it built an interesting narrative with the dramatic twists and turns. Touching on quite a few important themes as well. It was a good book and if you are looking for an easy read, this is definitely it!
