This series so far feels a bit like if Charles de Lint were to write a paranormal romance series, mixing quirky, likable characters, mythic urban fantasy magic, and a feeling of gentle coziness in with serious magical action scenes and (in book 2 especially) some very steamy scenes, too. In the first book, there were a couple of bits that I found clunky in the middle, but I still liked the heroine and hero so much that I started reading book 2 right away.

I continue to really, really like Evie and Lawrence as characters and root for them as a couple; I continue to love Evie's very cool Owl King magic and alchemy and also Lawrence's essentially sweet dorkiness behind his paranormal power; I continue to be a bit confused by the rules for vampires in Black's mythos (e.g., I'm still not sure, two books in, of exactly how or why the sunlight affects or doesn't affect Lawrence - sometimes he wears a sun hat and needs it but is otherwise okay; in this book, he was walking around in a desert without one and not enjoying it but not hurting; on the other hand, sunlight still seems to be bad for vampires? I don't know, honestly); and I'm moving on to Book 3 now. :)

A solid follow-up to the first book! I really enjoyed the growth in Evie's relationships with both Lawrence and her father. There was plenty of action, a dash of spice, and plenty of twists to go around.

When I was offered an ARC for the second book in “The Owl King Archives, “ I couldn’t hold back my excitement. The first book didn’t end in a cliffhanger but nonetheless we all knew the story didn’t end there. I completely adore L.B.’s characters. To be able to read about another Evie and Lawrence adventure is just so good. I can’t even put it into words. Things that were left lingering about in the first book were given an answer or end in the second book. I find it extremely satisfying as a reader when an author is able to continue a story without leaving so many questions or holes in the story line.

If you want an adventure that is not only intriguing and keeps you hooked, turning page by page wanting to read more without wanting the book to end. I enjoyed getting to read more about Evie’s father Jacob and seeing a tiny glimpse into his story even if it was just a bit. The way the author was able to tie the books together, you would've thought it was just one book instead of two and I can not praise her enough for that. The new characters were great. I hope to see more of them in the next book or so. Perhaps the Feys will come along for one of Evie and Lawrence’s “camping trips.”

A protective and possessive Lawrence is a chef’s kiss. 🤌 🤌 🤌 An alpha male without the toxicity just hits differently. Their relationship is so strong and genuine. Let's not speak on the bit of spice. I wasn’t expecting it but in a good way. I wished we could learn more about the tattoo mark on his hand especially after it being mentioned as it's been seen on someone else (no spoils sorry). But I know L.B. I will get to it in another book and I can't wait. I enjoyed watching the other characters being weirded out by Evie and Lawrence’s staring-silent conversations.

The Rose Coven??? New Vamps? Oh I can not wait! As I told the author. I will blindly read anything she puts out. Easily climbing up to one of my favorite authors.

The adventure continues in this installment. It's action packed with plenty of twists. It's described in such a way that one could picture the scenes, the actions and locations.

Lawrence and Evie have grown closer together and now working together against the terrible evil threatening their world. They are in search of an artifact that could destroy the world if it's not found in time. In this we get acquainted with Jacob, Evie's father and Blaise, a powerful mage. Helena from another coven seeks their help, but she has her own agenda. A secret is devolved that set doubt in everyones' mind. In their quest for the evil, a brutal battle follows. There is death and destruction erywhere. Will Lawrence and Evie be able to stop this obsessive evil in time?

It's fast paced and exciting. The magical feats are incredible. The cruelty of the evil one is unbelievable. The storyline is intriguing and is a page turner. It's a great ending with the promise of more to come. A worthwhile read.

I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

I was so excited to dive back into Evie & Lawrence’s adventures and see their relationship grow. L.B. Black is quickly becoming one of my favorite story tellers. This book picks up right away on a new “camping trip” adventure and we’re more immersed than we were before. I love that the book didn’t feel rushed and didn’t linger — it was the perfect length and the writing kept me intrigued the whole time.

New side characters are introduced, and I love them just as much as the ones we already know. We also dive a little deeper into established characters as their history becomes more relevant to their tasks. I want more of Blaise & Adrienne and can’t wait to find out what’s gonna go down when Helena and the coven get more involved. If you like urban romantic fantasies, don’t miss out on this series. It’s full of witty banters, great characters, and adventure with a bit of spice. You’ll love the Owl King and her Scribe. ;)

I loved this book so much! As a sequel it definitely held it’s own! Blood of the Wicked starts off relatively soon after the events of Book One and gets right into what we’ve missed. Evie and Lawrence have been having a nice summer together, with Evie also training with and getting to know Jacob. But as expected, nice things never last. The Rose Coven is intent on interfering in Evies life and Evies not keen to trust them, nor is Jacob willing to let her. They ask (task) her with a dangerous task…..but one that also has her finding Warren and hopefully stopping him before it’s too late. With Lawrence, Jacob, her bag of tricks, and new allies….or enemies….what could go wrong?? 😏

I really enjoy Evie and her sarcastic nature;her ability to crack jokes when she’s especially nervous is top tier. Lawrence is my sweet lover boy who definitely reminds us he’s more Vamp than human this time around and I’m absolutely not mad about it. Jacob is definitely making up for his mistakes of the past. I’m very interested to see how book 3 goes!

Also there is absolutely spice in this book 🥰🙌🏾!

‘The Owl King's hat seemed to weigh a lot on Evie's head' as she finds herself lacking as a witch and doubting of her skills. In his search for the Pilgrim's Mirror, Warren remains a threat, but it turns out he's not the only one. Evie and Lawrence have a difficult adventure ahead and in the course of it, they find not only enemies but also interesting allies with their own intriguing situations that leave us wondering what is going to happen with them. I liked the challenges that made Evie and Lawrence face their fears, the exciting fights, how the relationship between Evie and Lawrence was evolving and above all that neither of the two books has left us with a cliffhanger but thinking that there is still a danger lurking in the dark that will be deal with later. Action, suspense, interesting characters, doubts, monsters, magic, trickery, challenges, mystery, romance, and passion. I voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received for free from BookSirens and I liked it.

The Blood of The Wicked is a fast paced page turner. This is the second book in the Owl King Archives series featuring Evie the newly anointed Owl King and her vampire scribe turned boyfriend Lawrence. This unlikely pair share a rare bond of Synchronicity where they can communicate through each others thoughts.

This is another action packed book from author L.B. Black. Evie is tasked once again with saving the world as she sets out to find the Pilgrim's Mirror. This is a powerful ancient artifact that must be kept out of the hands of Warren.

I found myself even more connected to Evie and Lawrence as the two deepen their bond. Black does a fantastic job character building at the same time as she takes you on a nail biting adventure.

I sped through this book and can't wait to begin the next in this trilogy. I received an ARC from BookSirens and I'm leaving this review voluntarily. I would definitely recommend this story as well as the one before.

I'm so glad that I continued on with this series! The second book delivered just as the first!
I loved watching the characters grow and approach new conflicts. Evie and Lawrence are so fun to follow and I love their banter back and forth.
The introduction of some of the new characters brought in a lot of interesting back stories, but my one complaint about this is that the new characters themselves seem fairly flat. They have interesting reasons for being in the story, but they themselves are kind of vanilla.
Another thing that I love that this author is so good at is that there is just enough mystery left at the end of this book to have me chomping at the bit to read the third installment. I have questions that I'm dying to get answered, but not enough that it's irritating. A perfect balance!

Another wild adventure with Evie and Lawrence! As hinted in the first book, Warren isn't done with our duo. The plot in this one was very compelling and involved adding some interesting characters into the mix. Blaise is an intriguing person and I hope we see more of him. I wish we'd gotten more of Evie and Lawrence's relationship deepening. Don't get me wrong. They remain great together and things are said, done, and admitted. I just wanted more--not a criticism of the book, simply a preference. I want to say: I wish they'd spoken more in depth, which is kind of hilarious given that they speak into each other's mind, but whatever.
I'm super excited for the next book. The ominous clues left at the end have my mind whirling. If you're an urban fantasy fan, check this series out!

Ok so this was a solid book with a satisfying end. Just like the first one, the next book is well set up without leaving the reader on a cliffhanger. I actually really liked the story this time, and it was far less predictable than the first one. There were some scenes and storylines that could have been fleshed out more, but overall this is a really great read. If you are looking for a low stress book series that won't leave you with reading burnout, this is a great series to go with. It is very satisfying with interesting characters, and I can't wait for the next book to come out in June.

A solid adventure with my favorite witch and vampire. This is a fun romp that added some interesting new characters. Adriane was especially compelling, she has big Jenny Calendar energy with her whole techno witch vibe.

I loved seeing how Evie and Lawrence’s relationship has grown since book one and how their synchronicity develops. This sets things up nicely for the next book, while also closing out this one storyline. A lot of juicy lore was introduced in this book, so I’m excited to see how that plays out in book 3.

It was lovely to jump back into the world of Evie and Lawrence, following on from the events of the first book!
There were enough new characters to keep things interesting, and a villain with nuanced motivations - and it feels like everything is held together firmly by the relationship between the two main characters.
Great setup for the next book - I’ll look forward to reading it!
Many thanks to BookSirens and the author - I received this advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This second in the series just flowed from the first but was much more character driven. We really get to see Evie and Lawrence's relationship develop and oh by the way they have to save the world again.
We get to see some people from the first book and some new ones also. The book finished nicely with no cliff hangers but set up nicely to continue the story. It's nice to see both male and female leads without being toxic to each other. I will be on the lookout for another in this series.
I received this book free from BookSirens and am happy to leave a reveiw.

I missed this world so much. It was really good to have our favorite Owl King and Scribe and it's amazing how their relationship flourish.

And this time with have more characters, and a very interestings ones. I really liked Adrienne and Blaise (and they very cute together).

I wish I could see more of the dead world and of Jannis, they sound super mysterious.

Cant wait for the next chapters of this aventure

After the first book I just read on in book 2. Had enormous fun with the first one and the second book was also great! Evie and Lawrence are going of after the wicket former owl king again. They meet up with a creepy witch coven, a lost son, the lost father plays a big roll, and again they save the word. But the best part is again the fast storytelling, the good plot and the witty dialog.

Recommended!

I loved book one so was super excited to dive straight into book two and it did not let me down. We are back out on a journey With Evie and Lawrence and it’s one hell of an adventure. Every bit as exciting as the first book, entertaining and enthralling, it was great to see their relationship grow and we get answers from questions in book one. There’s action, adventure, magic & romance and is a great addition to this series!

Excellent second book in the series!

Builds on the events & relationships of the first book while keeping one entertained with a new adventure for our young Owl King and her Scribe.

Introduces new characters that are obviously going to cause further trouble down the line. A quick read, no extraneous material here!

Really, really loving this series and excited to move on to book 3!

After having enjoyed book 1 so much, I went straight onto book 2 and loved it. It's the kind of book that you can take anywhere with you, read a few pages, pick it back up again and immediately get back into the story. Highly readable, delightful characters, and an immensely enjoyable book.
