My brother got mixed up with a crime lord and lost everything he had, including his life.
And now I have to pay his debt.
All I have is twenty bucks in my pocket and the clothes on my back. The bank took the house, and my last living relative was murdered. Knuckles threatened to torture me if I ran. He's counting down the days until he'll claim me...making me treasure my final days of freedom.
But I'm not going to wait around. I'm running like hell.
To Milan.
The greatest lingerie designer in the world is looking for new talent for Barsetti Lingerie. I'm not exactly model material, but maybe I can get a job doing something...and get paid under the table.
But when I meet the infamous Conway Barsetti, he has other plans for me.
Did I just run away from one monster into the arms of another?
A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Penelope Sky is known for her dark romance that makes you fall for her characters….no matter how dark they seem. Her books are being translated into several languages around the world, and she’s sold more than a million books worldwide. She lives in a small town in California with her husband, where she spends most of her time writing on the back porch.
First of all, I want to say I like Ms. Sky’s books cover! They are simple but beautiful and they are related to the stories! I like this cover so much, especially That heels color is one of my favorite colors!
Sapphire’s brother got mixed up in the underworld and he made a gamble he couldn’t afford to lose. Their house repossessed by the bank so she didn’t have a place to live and she still had to pay off the loan. Even worse, the leader of the group that her brother was in debt to them, wants her and he’s worse than an animal. She saw an ad to audition for a spot on lingerie modeling, she saw an opportunity not for becoming a model just for finding a job there even as a janitor. So she fled to Milan (from New York) and…
Loved Sapphire! She’s smartass, fearless, stubborn. I liked her attitude and she always talked back to Conway! Conway was really intimidating. He has power and authority. He somehow works on Sapphire’s confidence and makes her feel beautiful. Of course she knows she’s attractive but she thinks not as beautiful as a model! She inspired Conway and challenge him in ways that nobody dares to. Conway is controlling but Sapphire isn’t a person to give up so easily. And I liked that Conway treated her with respect, mostly!
Told in dual POV, 1st person. It’s well-written and a bit fast-paced. It’s the first installment in the "Lingerie" series and it’s not cliffy. All in all, I really liked it and hope you enjoy it as well!
Hey, I'm watching an Alexander McQueen show on TV; let me fly to London, and I'll get a job there, and I don't even know how to sew a button!!! That's what happens here... In her case, she becomes a model because she is perfect, and her body is perfect! Then she acts foolishly ... He offers to help, and it would be 150k, and that's it! NOOO! She runs! She ends up being sold in a sex slave auction, and surprise, she is a 23-year-old virgin!!! He ends up buying her for 100 MILLION EUROS!!! LOLOLOL that kind of money is unreal!! Then the man transforms into an asshole because he paid 100 million; he can do whatever he wants with her!!! No respect whatsoever!!!
Giving 2 stars and not 1 because the man was great until 70%!
I grabbed this because I saw a review panning it for the far-fetched plot of the billionaire paying $100,000,000 to buy the virgin h in a sex trafficking auction. 🤡💀🤡💀 And, well, I’m not 100% against this plot line so I thought I’d give it a go myself. Because, who knows? 🤷🏼♀️
Anyhoo… that part of the plot wasn’t really the worst part for me…. It was how amazingly beautiful the h was. Like she was so hawt people should have been blinded by the glory of her perfection. And we’re told this on every single page. The hero is a super wealthy famous lingerie designer. He’s worked with the most beautiful women in all the world and he can not stop talking about her perfection in excruciating detail. On and on and on and on…. She becomes his “muse”… but here’s the thing… normally I really like it when the hero thinks the h is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen… but the way this is written, that’s ALL the hero cares about. He’s obsessed with her perfection. And that’s all. His entire interest with her is very clinical. And while it is about her unparalleled beauty… it isn’t about HER. Which takes all the heat and passion out of everything they do. There’s no chemistry or connection. Him admiring her ass is just a designer admiring something pretty… but never feels *hot* as it should.
It doesn’t feel exclusive or special. This ain’t the first time he’s f*cked one his lingerie models. He claims he regularly demands they parade around naked for him so that can design panties specifically for their bodies. And he has a couch in his studio that he implies is used to screw his models… because dude has a sex obsession. 🙄 For real. He says that he makes lingerie because he’s obsessed with sex…. So what makes the h special? I mean I guess I appreciate he never screwed the h on the sex couch… just on the desk next to it.. he saved that for his Muse.. 🙄 What a prince.
Also the author tries to tell us that that H is really a good guy under his cool cruel demeanor… but the last 30% of the book shows that isn’t the case at all. He has the opportunity to be a good person but instead he’s just an asshat.
Bottom Line? Meh. I’m kinda curious about the next book because I want to see if the author makes the H a real beta in his grovel… but her writing style is so robotic and repetitive I’m not sure I care enough to suffer through more. And I know for sure I can’t handle any more descriptions of the h’s unbelievable physical perfection. Maybe she’ll be hit by a bus and the H will have to dig deep under his shallow obsession to find some genuine love is his cold heart? I’d read that. ⭐️⭐️
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing - no OW/OM drama - there’s some jealous models but they don’t really cause any angst - no dubcon - there is a rough bj, that might be dubious but it’s definitely gray - no condoms - h is 23 yr old virgin - H is in his 30s - manwhore
Sapphire parents left her & her brother their property upon their death. Then Sapphire's brother got involved with a crime lord and owe him money he borrowed to gambling it all off. First the government takes the property for non payment of taxes now she owes an exuberant amount that she must pay or get arrested for tax evasion. Then her brother is killed by Knuckles the crime lord and he is giving her days to pay him for her brother debt or be his sex slave. Lastly she has no where to live so she lies to friends stating her home is fumigated just so she can sleep on their couch. Now with only days until Knuckles collect her what do you think Sapphire does? RUN!!! Sapphire takes all she carry buys a ticket and moves to Milan. Why Milan you ask? Sapphire sees a commercial of a beautiful model and Barsetti Lingerie is looking for new talent. Sapphire don't believe she is model material but figure she can get a job at Barsetti Lingerie doing something.
After getting to Milan with no money Sapphire sleeps under the stars waiting for auditions she shows up in jeans and a t-shirt when other beautiful models are dressed in their best and showing more skin than Sapphire is willing to. What Sapphire doesn't count on is her beauty in jeans and a t-shirt is seen. Sapphire is chosen and is the tenth model for Conway Barsetti himself to chose.
Conway Barsetti is Italian and is tall, dark, beautiful and arrogant. Building his Lingerie business from hard work with Clientele of the rich & famous. A billionaire!!! The snap of a finger and it is his, he is powerful and untouchable. If you are asking if his parents are Crow & Pearl Barsetti from the Buttons & Lace series you would be correct. Now being the top ten models Sapphire has been prepared in Lingerie and 5" heels both things she protest. However upon first sight of Sapphire Conway Barsetti stares and before the models have the time to walk the walkway he choses Sapphire and dismiss everyone else.
The question is does Conway Barsetti and the same traits as his father Crow Barsetti? Will Sapphire run from New York crime lord to Milan for another obsessed man? Barsetti Lingerie next top model!!!
Muse in Lingerie By Penelope Sky ---Book #1 Lingerie Series GENRE: Dark Romance NARRATION: Dual POV BOOK DETAILS: Book 1 of 9 in the Lingerie Series AUDIO AVAILABLE – Whisper- sync ready
THE STORY: Sapphire being threatened by a powerful and dangerous man in a New York criminal syndicate. Her brother owed a large debt to him and when he was murdered the debt was passed onto to Sapphire who has no means to pay it.
Her time has run out and it is only a matter of days before he will come and claim her. Using the last of her money she takes off on a plane to Milan in an attempt to escape the crime lord and her horrific fate.
Conway's Barsetti is the lingerie King of the fashion world, his designs are famous, around the world. He may be filthy rich and incredibly handsome but his oppressive demeanour matches his fierce passion for perfection.
Sapphire applies for a job at the Conway’s with the fashion designer after seeing an advertisement, thinking she could mop floors or do some administration she was stunned when she was picked to model for the lingerie range.
Conway quickly becomes obsessed with Sapphires beauty and she is chosen to model the runway in his latest designs. Now thrown into the spotlight she is not so hidden from her predators. Her past catches up with her exposing her to the dangerous world of the sex trade industry.
In a surprise turn of events her new boss places the highest bid on her at auction and she is now she is not just his muse she is now his property.
This story has plenty of drama, angst and slow burning chemistry. I’d compare reading this book to like testing dark looming waters, waiting to see how deep it goes and discovering what lies beneath the surface. The storyline is not predictable, it twists, it turns. This is a 9 book series so buckle in it’s going to be long ride.
MY THOUGHTS: The Barsetti’s are back! Well the next generation anyway. For those of you who have read Penelope’s Button Series Conway is Crows son and Carter is Canes.
This was a really slow start for me, yawning in fact but it picks up its pace around Chapter 12-13 and then kicked into high gear, full speed ahead.
Sapphire maybe a strong and tough woman but not the smartest, if your trying to stay off the radar becoming a lingerie model for Milan’s most famous designers is probably not the cleverest of moves. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but she defiantly has morals and she sticks to them manipulating Conway to compromise and step out of his comfort zone.
The story ended quiet abruptly but gave us a hint of what’s to come in book #2 as the imminent danger of Knuckles intentions are revealed.
DO I RECCOMEND THIS BOOK: If you are a fan of Penelope Sky's writing style and enjoyed her Button Series then I would definatley give this series a go.
Narrated by: Michael Ferrauiuolo &Samantha Cook Length: 7h 13m
Michael's male narration is great but his female narration not so much, Samantha Cook has a slightly older voice which I didn’t think fitted in well with her character.
Michael has that slow drawn out speech that has me in a trace, I love his voice, his impressions and his dirty mouth when in his male narration, his female narration is not so great it was a little creepy actually but after sometime you just get used it and it becomes less of an issue.
Female narrator matched to character: 2/5 Male narrator matched to character: 5/5 AUDIO RATING: 3/5
I think two stars is quite generous for this story. I wish I would’ve took initiative and read the synopsis on the sequels to this, otherwise I could have saved myself wasted time.
This was terrible. Flat out, down right terrible. The narration of this story felt like I was reading from the POV of a child who has been raised to gloat of their fortunes. And when I say gloat, I actually mean bragging about EVERYTHING! His direct internal dialogue was all over the place. He kept repeating, “I’m one of the most powerful men in the world” as if he’s a pope or president. He’s untouchable? As if! he’s a lingerie designer for goodness sake! I’m unsure how many times I rolled my eyes. This book was just written pages of contradictions.
I cannot make this up:
“But I never kissed anyone—and I wouldn’t kiss her.”
Wait for it....
“It’d been over five years since I kissed a woman like that.”
I’m not a book blogger or anything special but I felt that it was important to show you what your money is worth. It’s ludicrous how this author took a perfectly good storyline and butchered it to ground beef. And sadly, any dignified glory that could been praised about Muse In Lingerie got lost somewhere in the poorly written plot, bad dialogue and absurd contradictions. Even the drama of this story was far fetched.
Penelope Sky, it’s important that you go back to the drawing board and reevaluate any future books your plan on writing; brainstorm and plan according because this book is CANCELED.
I wanted to like this book...I almost love all romatic eroticas but this just fell so short. First, I was annoyed by how redundant the story was. She kept repeating the same facts over and over again. Okay I get it. Knuckles is a big NY drug lord no one knows about. Baretti is very powerful and could own anyone (get over yourself). The MC was ungrateful and irritating. She just opposed Baretti for no reason. Like...didn't you want the job? Do what he says you spoiled brat! She was not likable. The story was just dry. It did not keep my interest what so ever.
Okay so first of all.. I don't know why no one has commented on the fact that the author completely mixed up Crow and Pearl's children. Towards the end of 'Buttons and Pain', Crow and Pearl have a 5 year old daughter named Vanessa, a 3 year old son named Constantine and are expecting their 3rd child who Pearl assumes to be a girl.
But here in this book/ series, the author out of nowhere introduces 28 year old Conway, the eldest child, and Vanessa who is 21 years old. What happened to Vanessa being the eldest and where the hell did Constantine go? And what about the 3rd child? It's like the author forgot the characters she made in her previous book and came up with new characters thinking people wouldn't really remember what she wrote earlier.
Okay maybe it isn't a big deal but it's weird because I've been reading the books one after the other for the past week or so and thats how I caught the difference. But other than that, this book is pretty nice.
However, the author doesn't seem to want to create anything new. All her books are basically the same thing. The heroine being a woman with a strong personality, who takes no for an answer, and a hero who despite being all monogamous for the heroine, refuses to acknowledge that he loves her..and finally accepts the love only when the heroine has left. Like seriously?! It's cute for like maybe one series but maybe try something new once in awhile?
Overall, I did enjoy the Lingerie series, probably because I'm a sucker for alpha males (in books, let's be clear :p). However, these books had too many mistakes, too many repetitions, sometimes a paragraph was placed twice in the same book, a whole paragraph! How does that even happen??? I felt like the author thought I was stupid or had a very bad memory because she kept repeading why the characters were attracted to each other, why they couldn't be together, why it was wrong to love each other, etc. Writing four books for the same couple is just absurd and unncessary here, one book for one story would have been enough! Also the characters had the same way of talking, the same personnalities, the author literally toke the same characters but changed their physics and their background story a little bit and bam she had a new book.
However, I feel like this series could have some potential if she made it shorter, worked on her characters and had an editor (because I guess she doesn't have one?).
When I first started the book I could tell it was going to be an easy read and I was hooked to the story quickly . I loved the tension , and unspoken words between the 2 main characters but after he buys her from the underground the love that I thought he had for her was gone , I could no longer feel the connection between them . One minute he cares she’s homeless the next literally right after she has been sexually assaulted he’s ramming her mouth with his dick ? I hated that her personality went from not wanting to be a certain way to caving so easily and the fact that she was a VIRGIN made me lol literally - so typical OF COURSE SHE IS !
I have a hard time not finishing a series so I’m at somewhat of a war with myself on whether I will continue the series .

DISAPPOINTED CUZ I LOVED THE BUTTON SERIES!!! This book is OK to me I would’ve continue reading it’s too much stalling on this series, I can’t take all the description of every little movement of the character I have to stop at book 1. He’s frustrated with her, he’s so mad and yet he’s describing how he has fireplace in his room where he relaxes and another one in the other side of his bedroom. Who cares... get on with the story already. Why do I need to know he tossed his banana peel in the trash, again, who cares...
*SPOILERS AHEAD* Guys this book made me sooo mad. The plot was amazing. I enjoyed their tension, how the story started developing but then like in 80%? of book I jist could even look at this. The MMC characters asks FMC about her past, right? Nothing wrong about that. She tells him that she has a lot of debts because of her brother. And then he offers her paying for his brother debts in exchange for being his “muse” and having sex with him. She gets mad at his offer, try to leaves the town but the guy from debts gets her, and sells her on a fucking action! Oh and who’s there? The MMC guy. He pays 100 million dollars for her. LIKE WHAT THE FUCKK. AND THAT WHEN EVERYTHING GETS FUCKED UP. He expects her to fuck him now and do everything he wants her to do. OH AND THE BEST THING? She’s a fucking virgin. And he takes her virginity. While thinking that she owns him this. She wants a real connection while losing it, because it’s supposed to feel at least kind of special with person that u want it to do. But AT FIRST HE DOESNT EVRN WANT TO KISS HER. LIKE he does not care what she thinks about losing the virginity, he really thinks that she owns it to him. And when she finally loses it 🥲🥲🙄 THEYRE both enjoying it. And it’s okay for both of them. While I’m being disgusted. I didn’t even read the scene, I couldn’t bring myself to it I just skipped it and went to see how the book ends. And the ending also sucks for mee. Ehh. They don’t get together. It gets complicated, since the guy she owns money to gets mad with MMC for buying her. Ughhh. I cant. I was so ready and excited to read this book since it was showed on TT in such good light. But it was not my cup of tea. I feel like he forced her to have sex and tricked her, and it’s not supposed to be that way. At least for me. Do not recommend. Sorry, but not sorry.

Ooof... this story had so much potential initially.
If you like women being objectified constantly, and their physical attributes described on every page. If you’re a sucker for some human trafficking, rape, victim shaming and the victim developing Stockholm syndrome - THIS story is for you!
Be sure to know that the female main character aka Ten aka One aka Sapphire aka Muse is beautiful. Her bubble ass and supple bust is mentioned on pretty much every page. Her measurements are so perfect other females could likely only achieve them through plastic surgery. As a matter of fact none of the other 8,878,000,000 + females on this planet are even close to her perfection.
The male main character Conway is a typical romance novel brute, who has never loved in his life- waaa!- and swears he never will. He’s a jerk and it doesn’t change until the end. So because he’s never been told no and he’s a billionaire-figures- he makes ‘One/Ten/Sapphire/Muse’ his sex slave. He rapes her a little bit, loves to see her tears and her pain, then treats her like shit.
She on the other hand is simply grateful that she can be raped by him vs. some other raping brute. She went from a strong female character to a pushover. The last part of the book felt like a complete different book from the first part.
And wtf is Dante’s problem not liking her? Odd characters in this book, and not well developed. Im baffled this book got so many good reviews...
Sapphire has hit rock bottom. No house; no money; no family; she still is required to pay back the mortgage her late brother took out on the house they both inherited; and to top it off, an Underworld lord is after her for her late brother's additional unpaid debt. Living in the streets is not safe as "Knuckles" keeps leaving her notes letting her know the debt is due. Pay up or she becomes his sex slave.
Using the last credit on her credit card to buy a one-way ticket to Milan, she auditions for Conway Barsetti, the lingerie guru. All she wants is a job. Any job! Little did she think the attraction would be so carnal or that Conway would be so complicated.
If you are a fan of Penelope Sky, you will recognize the plotline echoes of her bestselling series here. It is riveting and dark... up to a point. So far, Conway has proven himself to be a gentleman willing to bend his dominance to please his "Muse". How far is he willing to protect her? Old debts will come due. No matter how safe she feels with Conway.
Riveting first book in this series. I can hardly wait for the next book!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
“But I never kissed anyone - and I wouldn’t kiss her.”
Spoiler alert, he does kiss her.
What’s with this common theme where the H likes to ‘fuck’ but kissing is too intimate?? That somehow him kissing the h makes their ‘fucking’ special?? That she somehow rises above the others in comparison, the stars align, and romance happens?? ... did I mention the H ‘fucks’ a lot and the h is an innocent virgin?? & they’re both VERY beautiful. Gah! Overdone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The storyline was intriguing but not well executed. Too many cliches and overused romance plots. He’s powerful and sexy, she’s the innocent damsel in distress (but who also can ‘take care of herself,’ doesn’t need a man). The human trafficking element to the story was brief, not enough to contribute to the overall suspense.
Apart from the first twenty pages, that are a little bit unrealistic and clearly were written just to start the story, the book was pretty good. A lot of things happened within 291 pages and somewhere in the middle it took a turn to a darker side of the story that I didn’t see it coming. Both characters were pretty good developed but can someone tell me how can someone be the biggest asshole and a caring man at the same time?? That was the only thing that frustrated me because it drove me mad how Conway was acting like he could do anything for Sapphire and then was acting like he was her abuser. I really hope he changes because I despise the side he has shown in the last few pages.
Better than usual. I have to remind myself, especially when reading erotica, that these books are not written to mirror the reality but to take some facts from it, and then transform them in a wet dream of sorts. Otherwie I would have kept rolling my eyes, through the entire book, so much that I would have seen my brain already. This book is an improvment to the norm, but that’s not saying much: basically the book was good because the female character did not annoy me and I didn’t scoff as much at every reply given by the male protagonist.
I really dislike her brother, the idiot character naked knuckles and most of all Conway. Even the butler is an ass to her! Loved her determination and fight, just wish there was more to her. Ends with a cliffhanger and you need to pay for the rest of the books, pass. There needs to be some redeemable quality to Conway but honestly there isn't. On top of it, let's throw in the sex trafficking , he buys her so he can do whatever he wants and she just has to take it? He point blank states he owns her p-ssy. He's a vulgar pig. So, reading the next book, no thank you.
This was ok, just ok. I bought this after reading a recommendation but I really don't think it was worth the money. It seemed promising as I was reading but didn't deliver. Nothing much happened what wasn't expected. Perhaps that's because this is first book in a long, long series so everything was hinted at but held back to tempt you into buying the next book and then the next. Nope, not me. Each book is too expensive for what they give you.
This is NOT my genre, so take my review with a grain of salt if you like this sort of thing. I found it incredibly crude and sexist. If you told me this was written by a man I would believe you. Even the FMC talking about herself says “my tits” and just various other terms that sound like manspeak.
I won’t get into details about the actual plot because it’s so outlandish and quite frankly, sad. It’s “dark romance” I guess, but I just found the story unbelievable and tragic. The MMC is crude, sexist and treats the FMC horribly. I think at one point he even thinks “I enjoy seeing her in pain.” I drew the line when the FMC wants connection because she has zero experience, and the MMC basically wants to SA her because he “owns” her. Conway has zero redeemable qualities. I would have loved if he saved her from being trafficked and promised not to touch her. But alas… Not my cup of tea!
On a brighter note, it ends on a cliffhanger, with the FMC finding some semblance of protection from the MMC. Although I don’t think I will be reading to find out what happens.
