Detective Addison Hale is married to her job, which is just fine by her. After all, she isn’t ever going to get married to a person. She’d rather get shot at for a living than take a risk like that.
So when smokin’ hot firefighter Ryan Dempsey offers her one steamy night in his bed? She’s all in. She just didn’t expect to fall asleep in his big, biceppy arms. And she definitely didn’t expect to feel so good there.
But every one-night stand ends in a morning after, and when Ryan’s sister is targeted by a dangerous stalker, Addison’s becomes more complicated than she ever imagined…
Fast Burn is a short, sexy prequel to the full-length standalone, The Rogue. It contains loads of banter, scorching heat, and ends in a cliffhanger that leads to the novel.
USA Today best-selling author Kimberly Kincaid writes romantic suspense that sizzles and contemporary romance with heart and heat. Equal parts action and emotion, her firefighters and first responders always save the day. When she's not finding adventure with her family and naughty Whippets, Olive, Daisy, and Jack, she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book.
Kimberly's series include The Intelligence Unit, Remington Medical, Station Seventeen, and her brand-new Remington Rescue Squad series. All titles stand alone for easy reading.
Fast Burn is the prequel to the next book in the Intelligence Unit series and features Addison Hale and Ryan Dempsey, a firefighter from Station Seventeen and gives us a little more information about their one steamy night together after the annual Christmas event at the Station❣️
I look forward to finding out their story as well as more about Hale and her “rules” and why she has them😁
This book is a short prequel to the Rogue. Of course now I can’t wait to read the Rogue! Addison works for the Remington Police Department as a detective. I always love how the police and fire department are such good friends and hang out together. Ryan is one of the fire fighters in their tight group and is so handsome and sexy. During a Christmas party Ryan flirts with Addison. Addison has a rule not to mix benefits with friends or coworkers, but she decides to make an exception with Ryan. She is crazy as she beats herself up because she enjoyed her time together but doesn’t want to get in a relationship. The ending makes me think there may be more to this relationship in the next book! Great prequel to grab your attention for the next book.

Addison is married to her job and she likes it that way, she has rules that she follows to keep her life going in the direction she wants to. At a Christmas party, Ryan Dempsey offers her one steamy night, no strings attached and she finally gives in and accepts his offer. When Ryan wakes up alone, he thinks she just left to go get some rest, but the next time he sees her, it is as if the one night never happened. When Ryan's little sister calls him about a stalker, she is scared to death. Once he makes it to her apartment he calls for someone from the Intelligence Unit to investigate. When Addison appears at his sister's door, they are both surprised. Great introduction to The Rogue, now I am off to read it!
Fast Burn, a short prequel to the Rogue by Kimberly Kincaid, is an introduction to Remington Police Department detective Addison Hale and firefighter Ryan Dempsey. Addison, a no-nonsense detective, doesn’t believe in relationships, but one night stands is definitely her way to go. During a Christmas party Ryan flirts with Addison. Addison has a rule not to mix benefits with friends or coworkers, but she decides to make an exception with Ryan. She drives herself crazy as she enjoyed her time together but doesn’t want to get in a relationship, thereby ghosting him. A few months later, Addison gets called to an apartment and comes face to face with Ryan, where his sister is in trouble. I suspect there is going to more to this relationship and I can’t wait to read the Rogue to find out.
I absolutely loved Fast Burn by Kimberly Kincaid, the prequel to her upcoming Intelligence Unit book, The Rogue. I loved every moment on every page of Fast Burn and could not put it down. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I also enjoy that Kimberly has included characters from her other series in the new Intelligence Unit series. It was nice catching up with the other characters in the series. It is like a family reunion. Once again Kimberly Kincaid has shown that she is an incredible storyteller who delivers sizzling romances. Fast Burn is the steamy one-night stand between Addison Hale, a detective in the Intelligence Unit, and Ryan Dempsey, firefighter. At a holiday party at the fire station, Addison, and Ryan flirt with one another. They both decide to go to Ryan’s apartment for a no strings attached rendezvous. After reading Fast Burn, I cannot wait to read The Rogue. Fast Burn is filled with the sizzling romance that I have come to love and expect in Kimberly Kincaid's stories. I love the cast of characters in Fast Burn, and I am looking forward to reading The Rogue and the other books in the series. It was a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.
Minus one star for the strong Christmas theme that runs throughout a third of the book, and while the book is only three chapters, it's enough to turn off this hater of all things Christmas. Minus another star because there was not enough character development for me to care enough about Addison and Ryan. The final minus a star is for the cliffhanger. The description does state that there's a cliffhanger and that's fine if there's enough of a desire to continue with their story and, in my case, that's not there.
On the positive side, the author does spicy quite well and the cover is fantastic.
In this short prequel to "The Rogue" a part of new series The Intelligence Unit, Kincaid introduces us to Detective Addison Hale and Ryan Dempsey a Firefighter at Station 17. Don't let the length of this story fool you it is jam packed with heat and set us up nicely for the story to come. I immediately connected with Hale, as someone who is set in her ways and believes strongly in "her own set or rules." After giving in to Dempsey for a one night only hook up, things look a little different for them both, but Hale's gone in the morning. Months later they reconnect in a surprising place and I'm excited to see where this new case takes them.
A hot prequel to Det. Hale and Firefighter Dempsey’s Intelligence Unit series
Addison Hale is a no-nonsense detective who doesn’t believe in relationships, but one night stands, oh yeah that’s her jam. Firefighter Ryan Dempsey agrees to all her demands, but then feels like they connected….. until she ghosted him.
A few months later, Addison gets called to an apartment and comes face to face with Ryan, where his sister is in trouble.
I can’t wait to read the full story, so far all of the stories have been great.
In the words of Ryan Dempsey, this prequel was "hard and fast". Addison and Ryan's chemistry is hot and has a foundation in friendship due to their occupations. I am intrigued by Addison and what the reason for her no relationship rule is. I fell for Ryan fast but his comments regarding consent made me swoon. I look forward to seeing what happens between them in The Rogue. This is the first time I have read Kimberly Kincaid and I really enjoy her style.
Ryan and Addison have known each other for a long time. Ryan the firefighter, and Addison the detective in Remington. Ryan has been attracted to her for three years. She shut him down then. She can’t do one night with a friend. It’s against her rules. But when he tries again she’s all in, but she knows she shouldn’t be. She ghosts him after that. The end of this steamy prequel will leave you wanting more.
4+ Stars ⭐⭐⭐🌟 FAST BURN is what happens between Detective Addison Hale and firefighter Ryan Dempsey in this very short prequel. It may be brief but with an enticing punch that will definitely leave you wanting to read more of their story. There’s plenty of heat in this one and even though it may seem like they’re destined for a one-and-done, I promise you that what’s coming next will make it well worth the wait.
I really need to read the whole Intelligence Unit series because I am loving these prequels. The police and fire department representation is good that I feel like I have not seen too often in books. Addison and Ryan are the main characters in this one and I enjoyed every bit of their characters. The steam and spice in this book has me wanting more. I need to know what happens with Ryan’s sister and how their relationship goes from here.
Ooooo can’t wait for this story! Hale has always been that bubbly person on the team but knew had baggage from her past. Her and Ryan are finally going to have to work together to figure out what I’d going on with his sister. Which is going to make them acknowledge their feelings and try to give their relationship a go hopefully. Can’t wait for The Rogue.
This was a good intro for those who haven't read this series before, although with such few pages you couldn't get too much of a grasp of what's to come. Especially since at least a third of them was spent beneath the sheets. Intrigued to see where this is going though.
This short work is a fairly well written teaser of a common ilk today in which the protagonist engages in a bout of recreational sexual activity only to find her emotions unexpectedly involved. The cliffhanger is a fairly effective one but these commonplace characters are only slightly more interesting than the run of the mill.
Addison is a strong cop and likes her glitter. The heat between her and Ryan is scorching! Can’t wait to read more of these characters and the entire series!
That may have been just a short novella, but it was definitely not lacking steam! The sparks that came from Ryan and Addison were enough to start a fire. Ryan and Addison agreed on one night with no strings, but would one night be enough?
This is short and sweet but does a great job of introducing the characters of Addison & Ryan and setting the scene for what's to come. It also details their steamy hot one night stand that I feel is going to come into play down the track...
The tension between Addison and Ryan wasn't dimmed after their one and done. She ghosted him the morning after, 2 months later and he answers the door while she's on a PD call. Now Ryan's sister's in danger... I have to read the full follow up book!
A fast, super hot quick intro to Detective Addison Hale and smoking hot fireman Ryan Dempsey. It does not disappoint . It is a Prequel to The Rogue. Now I will have to go back and read all the previous book in this series.
Fast & Hot!! Ms. Kincaid sure does know how to tease! LOL!! I LOVED it!! I can’t wait for more Addison and Ryan and, to know what’s going to happen once they have to work together. I know it’s going to be so gooood!!
Short prequel to The Rogue which is very steamy and shows the chemistry between Ryan and Addison. And, of course, it ends with a tease of what is to come in The Rogue. Can't wait to read it!
While you get some of Addison and Ryan's backstory at the beginning of The Rogue. Why pass up this hot, steamy start to their relationship...err first encounter! LOL You'll understand once you read The Rogue.
This is fast, hot, and will have you begging for more!
