Spring in Maika'i brings exciting news and booming business at the local flower shop. But it also brings tragedy. Someone is dead.
Officer Bradley is out of town, replaced by an overzealous new deputy who has already thrown Saffron behind bars. But she's not the only Maika'i resident who finds herself in trouble with the law. Holly and the Empress are locked up, too, and time is running out for them.
But then Saffron's tetrachromacy--her ability to see more colors than other people--leads her to a clue that everyone else missed.
Can Saffron find the real killer before her friends are charged with murder?
I'm disappointed and done with this series. I mentioned in my review of the book previous to this one, something weird is going on and I am suspicious about how these book are now being written.
Case in point: Saffron's phone dies. She puts it on the charger and wakens to 5 missed calls and a voice mail with the last call. While listening to the message it turns into a conversation with her and the person leaving the message - but it's a message!!!??!? Then after listening to the message it says she called the person back as quickly as she could.
Also: Holly tells Saffron that she left Rex's name off the patent. Then later Saffron reads the patent and guesses about why Rex isn't on it (even though Holly already told her about it.) Then even later, when Saffron mentions it to Holly she says something like "I'm not even going to ask how you knew that." about Rex's name not being on the patent. Hello? You told her in the first place.
Ugh. I'm done. I'm leaving the series and refuse to read anything by this author again. It's shoddy work and I'm mostly upset because I loved the series so much.
Series has a great setup in location, characters, chickens, egg farm scenario and chapter heading artwork. It's a quick read and I put it into the medium-well-done category. I ignore the relationship sideline as just hormone silliness. The grandfather and Tutu Kane are the best, plots around them turn out the strongest and most interesting. This book has a melodrama plot set up with a temp deputy that turns it into a high-school drama satire with his hand to forehead over reactions. I kept waiting for him to twirl a mustache and wear a black cape while tossing everyone into jail cells. Sanity returns with the sheriff, the mystery solved, and all is good in the egg world. Ta-Da! The book needs a kindle edit for words that look like scanning errors. Overall, I recommend the series as a beach read to enjoy the surroundings. The adorable chickens, the egg farm descriptions of what it takes to run the farm, and the chapter art do the hard work in these books. Great series idea.
Love this series! Love learning little things about chickens (an wishing I could live on the island egg farm). A new police officer covering for.Bradley adds humor, but he’ll never figure out who killed a man and whether it was a simple heart attack or murder. Meanwhile, Saffron’s friends are in jail. Exciting adventure, island style.
One of my favorites of the series. This one touches on all the people we’ve gotten to know in the series and Saffron’s color vision. Plus, the love of food. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Saffron and her favorite doctor.
