Anwen is pretty sure she loves her future husband. The problem is, he’s not real.
When Anwen discovers that she has been under an enchantment for months, and that her betrothed, Gresham, is a mysterious being obsessed with keeping her forever, she escapes to the forbidden Faiewood after a voice on the wind calls her to safety. She finds herself the captive of a green-eyed Faie king who gives cryptic half-truths to Anwen’s questions and refuses to let her leave the Faiewood. With her family’s life at stake, and the safety of all Faie hanging in the balance, Anwen learns that she is his birthright. They are bound by the strings of fate, and she is left with only one choice: trust him, or watch the vales burn.

It was fine. A bit all over the place but decent story overall. The whole fair lore was actually interesting but there was something wrong with the pacing.

Additional note: I think this author has potential writing horror because there were some scenes that were freaking scary.

Anwen thinks she loves her future husband, until she realizes she's been under a spell. Running to the forbidden Faiewood, she finds herself captive by the Faie king, whom she learns she's bound to. Now she needs to decide if she can trust him, or watch her world crumble.

I absolutely loved this book. Anwen was a fantastic character and her story was just fascinating. The plot is fairly fast paced and the world building was fantastic. The author did a great job in giving the reader a way to see what they envisioned for their story with the amount of detail they out into their settings.

The book has some romantic tension, but the romantic side takes a back seat to the fantasy portion. Normally, I prefer having a little more romance to spice the story up, but with this book, the author had me invested in the story that I didn't mind the lack of romance.

4.5 ⭐️

Wow that was a ride! This was darker then I thought it would be! It definitely had the feel of Ever After, (one of my fav movies) but with horror elements to it. There were a lot of moments that had me cracking up with subtle humor, my fav.

I just needed more to Evander. He was a solid character but felt a little something was missing. I loved the FMC and her motivations to save her family and her people. And I loved the world building and all the Faie!
Fury was scary..

Loved the atmosphere of this book. Definitely excited to start book 2!

Let’s talk about world-building. It is essential for constructing all fiction, even the genres that appear to be close variants of our world. With fantasy, where the existence of magic redefines the relationships between the living and the physics of their universe, the author’s imagination is fettered only by the nature of magic and the level of magic inherent in nature. For example, do all the inhabitants of the world have access to magic? If not, how is its distribution limited? Do only special beings control the magic? Is there one being or group of beings inherently more powerful? How well the author establishes the rules and consistently follows them allows the reader to suspend disbelief, escape into the story, and become immersed in the conflicts and adventure, same as any other well-told story.

Enter the world of Faie and Fury. Here, Devon Atwood has borrowed some character types and themes from the genre while also paving new ground, redefining myth and legend to suit a well-crafted variation of the eternal conflict of good versus evil. Anwen’s family is under attack without knowing it. When she discovers the truth, she takes flight from the source of the evil, escaping into Faiewood, a mysterious place chock full of dark places and stories of enchantment. Even though the wood borders on her kingdom, she knows next to nothing about it, having never been within it because of the suspected dangers lurking within. And it’s there that her adventures truly begin as she discovers that her fate is directly bound to a Faie who would be king. And in order to save her own family, she must enlist the aid of the creatures of a fantastic world who have at least as much apprehension and misinformation about humans as Anwen does about the Faie.

Faie and Fury is the beginning of The Faie King’s Mortal and for lovers of stories about mythical beings and magical powers. This one does not disappoint. Atwood’s imagination reveals her creation through descriptive prose detailed enough to engage the reader’s senses and it compels us to follow the characters’ travails. We cheer their triumphs and suffer their defeats, eagerly turning pages unto the end. It’s always best to get in on the ground floor of a new fantasy series and having read this one, I’m already waiting for the next installment’s release. As I understand it, the raw tale for Book 1 was composed in about a month. Atwood’s prolific writing schedule bodes well for expectations of Book 2 sometime in the near future. But for now, savor this one as your weekend read.

Faie and Fury begins with Princess Anwen discovering something isn’t quite right with her betrothed. She eventually is transported to another realm where she discovers the Faie King Evander who is her only hope of saving her land.

This fantasy romance will shock you, woo you, and leave you begging for more.

Devon Atwood’s world building had me wishing I could be transported there myself!

Cute easy read

This book took me by surprise! It was a very cute easy read.

This is a high fantasy slow burn romance with easy to follow world building. The characters are loveable and relatable. The plot has a nice flow to it, you aren't left bored or waiting for something to happen.

The main character can be sassy and silly, she takes everything in stride and is strong when she needs to be. The love interest is humble, protective and kind. What more could you ask for?!

The villain in this story is not what you'd expect and took my by surprise. This world, though easy to follow, has lots of surprises. I would say this is an easy beginner fantasy novel if you're looking to get into this genre. Can't wait for book two!

It doesn't end.
There is a lot of action and badness to overcome. I wish their powers were stronger. The bad guy's powers are always stronger.

I'm not done yet, actually.
I don't know why, but it doesn't keep drawing me back to read it.
I've just erased 4 or 5 lines trying to think of what I want to say...lol.. I've read all the other great reviews and I agree with them all. The world building is great. There does seem to be something missing. I have to skim over the descriptions of the creatures that are a horror story. I will have nightmares just reading about them. I'm not sure how Anwen can mentally handle the creatures she has faced, have them talk to her and touch her. Sounds like enough to drive anyone insane or at least give them nightmares for the rest of your life. Plus, she hears that they want to devour her. That is some kind of scary stuff going on.
The romance between them doesn't feel natural.
Anwen keeps fighting against everything, which is annoying sometimes.
She knows the woods are full of creatures that will kill her and if it wasn't for Evander, she would be dead, but she gets up and runs away from him again and he kills or harms a monster trying to kill her, but she is determined to get away from Evander, so she gets up and runs again and if not for Evander a monster would have killed her. This was just the stupidest stupidity. 'Hey, run away again, why don't you, into the woods where you have found out, a few times, that monsters and creatures are going to kill you'

I'm going to finish it. I do think it is a wonderfully creative story. This one was free. I cannot pay for books so I won't be reading the rest.

"Faie and Fury" by Devon Atwood isn't just a tale spun from imagination—it's a journey infused with the author's charm and charisma. With each page, Atwood's voice shines through, drawing readers deeper into the enchanting world of Anwen and the Faie.

Anwen's struggle with the revelation about her betrothed, Gresham, felt all too real, thanks to Atwood's masterful storytelling. And when Anwen finds herself ensnared by the enigmatic green-eyed Faie king, I felt myself drawn into his mysterious allure just as she was.

Atwood's ability to balance moments of tension with heartfelt emotion kept me engaged from start to finish. As Anwen faced impossible choices and the fate of her loved ones hung in the balance, I found myself on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next.

While there were occasional lulls in the pacing, Atwood's charm never faltered. Through her vivid descriptions and rich character development, she transported me to a realm where magic danced on the wind and destiny lay just beyond reach.

"Faie and Fury" is more than just a fantasy novel—it's a testament to Atwood's talent and passion for storytelling. Her words weave a spell that lingers long after the final page is turned, leaving me eagerly awaiting the next installment in Anwen's journey.

Let me just start off by saying the only thing I hate about this book is that I have to wait for the next one!!! This is an amazing story! Not a lot of spicy spicy in it but that’s okay because the plot and world building makes up for it! This books is just full of twists and turns so make sure your paying attention!!

Anwen thinks she has her whole life set the way it was meant to be but something unexpected flips her whole life upside down and now she’s not sure who she can trust— Her fiancé, Gresham or the handsome Faie king , Evander!!! It’s a race against time and Anwen has to make some difficult decisions by trusting her gut!! Can she save the ones closest to her in time?!

Trust me when I say you are going to want to grab your favorite drink and read this all the way through!! It will not disappoint!!

4.5 🌟! No spice. I was totally immersed in this world. The writing itself was beautiful, I felt like I was living in this world. I could picture the scenery and the creatures perfectly in my mind. This book did not need spice to be good. My eyes were glued to the page from page one and I could not put it down.
The main character Anwen discovers she has been living in an enchantment with her siblings for months. The guy she was betrothed to isn't who they think he is and she manages to escape to the Faiewood, where she also feels trapped, but in a different way. She is in a world she doesn't understand and has to put her trust in others to survive. She may not be the most powerful being but she is resourceful, clever, and determined to do whatever it takes to keep her world and the Faiewood safe. 100% recommend this book if you enjoy fantasy. So ready for the next book to come out.

A shorter read that packs a punch.
Faie and Fury borrows elements from the genre and makes them unique, refreshing, and enjoyable for the reader. I found this book to be a rather quick, a fast paced read, but still packed enough plot and character development to keep me entertained and engulfed by the realm. I know it is book one, but selfishly, I wish it was a touch longer to dive even further into the background and development overall.
There isn't a spicy/steamy element to this story, but there is a slow-burn happening beneath the main plot and I am here for it.
My favorite element is how stubborn and hard-headed the FMC (Anwen) comes across. She does everything in her power to look out for her loved ones and her people. I typically don't like the whiny and frail FMC's so to have Anwen so strong and self-willed was just what I was looking for in this story. I can't wait to finish the series and have answers to the cliff that this book leaves you on.

Breathtaking. Action-Packed. Page-Turner.

This book is amazing! I was hooked from that very first page. I couldn’t put it down and I read most of it in a day! I loved the details and vivid story-telling!! This author is talented and I cannot wait to read book two. I felt like I was in it and I could feel all the joy, sadness, love, and frustration; deep in my soul. This is a must-read for anyone looking for an epic new series, filled with plenty of enchanting moments and mesmerizing imagery.

Action packed and fast paced fantasy!

This is a slow burn fantasy but that’s because as soon as Anwen figures out that her life has been enchanted by something called a mysterious, she escapes to the woods and it’s non stop action until the end. There’s no time for romance. I did listen to the audio and it fell a bit flat to me. There were parts that were amazing but all I will say is being a narrator with a lot of characters is hard.
There were some scary moments (I am not of fan of being scared so scary to me might not be so much to others lol) I really play out the scenes in my head and the writing was obviously great because I thought some characters were frightening. It also had something different that I hadn’t read and that’s the threads of magic? That’s new to me. I would tell you more but go read it!!! I can’t wait to continue to book 2!

Beautifully written ❤️

It took me all of like 36 hours to read this books and would have been less if I didn't have responsibilities to attend to. It was so captivating that I didn't want to put it down in any way. I loved every character, even the ones we aren't meant to like. They all held an important role to end of the story. I cannot wait for the next book! I need to know what happens next!!

This really surprised me in how much I loved it. It’s very easy and quick to read but gives you so much, in such a short span, and does not feel rushed at all to me. I adored the characters and the slow burn romance and there were a few moments that genuinely shocked me. I felt the “villain” is uniquely terrifying and will say I’m glad I went ahead and bought the second book with this one because I plan to waste no time in starting it.

This was a super interesting read and kept my interest the whole time. There were some parts that were a bit hard to follow (but it was mostly names/words that I wasn’t sure if I should know at times). I really enjoyed the characters, world building, and twists and turns! It’s full of action and though some parts were a little freaky and dark, in general it’s a pretty “clean” book. Really enjoyed and can’t wait to start book 2!

Read it overnight. Started at 3 AM when I nursed my son, couldn’t sleep because I was so hooked. The plot is amazing, characters are believable and static—they are both likeable and do stupid things (like a normal person). The author left the book on a HUGE cliffhanger with a few threads unresolved—maybe too big of a cliffhanger? But that might just be my angst that I gotta wait for the next.

This book is awesome, love the way I am kept on the edge of my seat. Strong female character that needs a little help now and then but that's what makes her so strong. The world that the author created felt so real and tangible.

Wonderful Story

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but it kept me interested all the way through. The writing drew me into the story from the start and I loved how it progressed. It’s a slow burn between Anwen and Evander. Can’t wait to read the next book!

the magic system in this book is something i’ve never read before and i loved it. I love when books are fast paced and just throw you into the chaos while they world build. Devon has a way of making you want to turn the page at the end of every chapter just to see what happens next.

It's a little confusing and hazy at first, but that goes along with the plot line. Story really drags you in, and you don't want to put it down.

For my clean readers: language-some, but no f-bomb. Violence-torture, kidnapping, fighting, etc. Romance-kissing.
