The House of Rule #1

L’ossessione della famiglia Rule

Rate this book

Always a fan of romantic fiction, I've always been in love with the alpha-male. So in love, I've never been quite satisfied with the restrictions of series romance. I like to get into a guy's mind and have him do or say exactly what he's feeling at the moment, and sometimes I shock even myself! I consider my stories soft erotica; one man, one woman, heterosexual. But since abiding love is always the happy ending I'm looking for, my couples are always monogamous. My guy would never share his woman with anyone, and she is always enough to satisfy him. Since I believe that love starts with lust, my stories are always highly sexual, explicit in nature, and hopefully totally satisfying to my readers. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

Stand-alone book 1 (novella)

BLURB:
An alpha-male like no other: Damian Rule is an ultra-staid businessman who likes his life just so. He wears his hair cut short; he demands his business affairs be organized, and he insists that his women be impeccably groomed and conservative in both speech and appearance. When he meets Angie Ross for the first time, he sees a hot, beautiful, gothic mess. With her fishnet stockings and spiked leather cuffs, she's wildly inappropriate for his long term needs. But for the short term? She'll do just fine.

From the author of USA Today's 'Sarah's Surrender', Lynda Chance brings you: Rule's Obsession. With a style reminiscent of 'Pursuit' and 'Marco's Redemption', 'Rule's Obsession' is a steamy, stand-alone book with no cliffhangers.

3.5 Stars. I enjoyed the story and the dynamic between Angie and Damian. This is a short read but the story to me flowed just fine. Damian is definitely a crazy possessive and obsessed hot alpha male when it comes to Angie. At first he was a bit of a jerk with his shitty attitude and I wanted to slap him. It took a while but he grew on me. I liked Angie. She’s strong, independent and doesn't put up with Damian’s crap. This book doesn't have angst and drama. Fast-paced and enjoyable, this one was a good blend of steamy sex scenes, romance and humour that kept me entertained until the end. If you're in the mood for an OTT alpha hero check this one out.

3.5 sexy stars.

This was a quick, hot read. Tough alpha, wants to be in charge Damian is obsessed with oh, so not suitable for him, Angie. She is a hairdresser, looks like a Goth. He is a business man, dresses in bespoke suits.

Worked out fine for a Sunday afternoon read. Most of the books I have read by Lynda Chance are usually 3 or 4 stars, sex is hot and men a little OTT at times.

3.5 stars. So there were things I really liked about this one and things I really didn't. I loved how alpha he was but I just didn't truly believe in their connection. Because of her goth appearance he figured they could just mess around for a while and eventually he'd have to find a woman that was more suited to his business world. This is a man that seems pretty ruthless, it just didn't make sense that he would worry what other people thought. Once she changed back to her "normal " appearance is when he finally started showing real emotions towards her. He was possessive before that but didn't actually show any real caring for her before that. It had a super sweet epilogue that bumped it up a star for me.

No OW/OM drama at all which I also appreciated.

My first Lynda Chance book was totally beyond my expectations. It was a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. The storyline was interesting and it kept me turning the pages. I found myself getting into the groove of the story since I finished the first chapter, and ended up grinning from ear to ear at the end of the book. The main characters were very engaging, and there were also other interesting characters that I'd like to find out what's going to happen to them in the other books in this series.

Damian Rule was a super possessive alpha hero! Yes, he was so hot! He was attracted to Angie since the first time he laid eyes on her. Though she was the opposite of the kind of woman whom he would marry, he kept coming back to the salon where Angie worked just to get another look at her, over and over again. He couldn't stop himself from wanting her.

Angie was a goth-looking woman who always wore black and dark eye makeup. She knew that she was attracted to Damian as well so she tried to tell herself that he wasn't the right one for her. Every time they met, I could feel the sizzle building up between them and their sexual chemistry was so intense. And when both of them couldn't fight their feelings anymore, they had agreed to keep their relationship casual. As they got to know each other better, their feelings grew stronger and deeper. Well, I could tell there was nothing casual about what was happening between them!

There were things I loved about this book... I loved that Angie was strong and smart. I loved that Damian was so possessive and that made him hot as hell! I loved that there was no unnecessary drama, no illogical misunderstanding, and no stupid miscommunication between the hero and heroine. These were all great!

Rule's Obsession is the wonderful combination of sexy, sweet, and fun. I loved it!!!

I really don`t remember if i have read anything by Chance before.

But GODAMN IT!"Rule`s Obsession" was so steamy and satisfying that i didn`t want it to end.

Damian Rule is one of the best sexiest Alpha-heroes in the contemporary genre. He is one of those heroes who loves intensely and with a great obsession for only ONE woman. Its only once and for always. The hairdresser Angie Ross sure knew how to handle him!

spoilers ahead

I accidentally reread this, the H is very controlling, there were a lot of time jumps so the relationship didn't progress as smoothly as I'd like, the h gave in a lot because of sex but she had some strong moments, some hot sexy times.
I won't say it's quite a 4* read but even when the H was an ass I enjoyed it well enough so I won't lower my rating but more like 3* than 4

Spoilers

This book starts with Damian obsessed with Angie, I was hooked on every intense word! But when they finally start getting intimate there were a couple of times where I felt that he didn't quite get her consent. He wanted to be in total control of her and though it pushed my buttons a little bit I rolled with it until again he told her she wasn't allowed to be alone with any men,be they gay or not because apparently they will become bi because of Angie's sexiness 😂. Yes it was OTT, with a very controlling alpha hero but it ended up being just what I needed so I'm happy I took a chance on this author. Though Angie mostly gave in to Damian she didnt come across as a whimpering idiot so in the end I got likeable mc's, a lot of heat, loveable secondary characters(loved his mama ),intriguing secondary characters(Nick and Courtney) and a short but fulfilling read.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars!

Oh I do love how Lynda Chance can write a possessive jealous ott alpha man!

Not that I could ever put up with that type of man in real life, but still, I do love reading about it!

Saying that though, this was not my favourite Lynda Chance book!

The thing is, I felt almost detached from the couple! I enjoyed it yes, but I did not get drawn into the story and relationship as I had with other Lynda Chance books!

Maybe it was the whole "goth" element, which was fine, I thought it would make for an interesting dynamic, but her reasons for doing so, just made it all a bit fake and it fell flat for me.

I also wish it had not jumped ahead so much! They have the build up to a relationship, the first night together, then you turn the page, and it is a couple of months later! I wanted, needed that time. Maybe that is why I felt so detached from them as a couple!

But, some brilliant side characters, such as Damien s mother, and I will certainly be picking up the next in the series!

But, all in not my favourite.

I'm unsure how to feel about this because, honestly, there's nothing much that happened in this story—well, aside from Damian's (31) OTT caveman behavior and his and Angie's (27) smutfest.

He saw her months ago but couldn't understand why he was drawn to her. She was all wrong for the type of man in his wealth level, and I think not his usual type of woman. But he can't stay away from her, so he goes every few weeks to the salon she's working at just to see her. Anyway, he finally approached her but acted like a real grade-A d*ck, hence why she doesn't want to do anything with him. But her rejection won't do, so of course, he charmed her, or he tried to. Angie only gave in to his proposition when he agreed that it would be casual. Cue the start of their FWB setup.

I liked Angie; she held her ground most of the time, but the BBS is still very present in the book. Yet she didn't back down when it came to Damian, and while sometimes her hormones got the best of her, she wasn't completely led by them. It's kind of refreshing to read a FMC with some sort of spine. The bar is so low that I was actually surprised and enjoyed to read that the FMC is not a freaking doormat for once. 🤧

As for Damian, I'm 50-50 with him; sometimes I like him, sometimes I don't. He's way too controlling for me, and not in a hot way. I think if it were up to him, he would gladly imprison Angie at his house because he couldn't handle his obsession with her. Yet it wasn't until the 80% mark and the presence of Angie's friend, who happens to be gay, that he acknowledged the real reason behind his attraction to her.

He's been in denial for too long about what he would want her to be in his life. All he knew was that he couldn't live without her, and he wanted her to be by his side all the freaking time. He's basically dependent on her. He even ordered her to move in with him and quit her job, not even asking if she would be fine with that. Thank God, she didn't do any of those. 😮‍💨

I'm sure other readers would love and probably swoon over Damian's character, but his overbearing personality bothered and annoyed me. He can be sweet if he wants to, but the majority of this story was all about him and what he wants, with Angie playing along with everything. It was always his way or the highway. I'm trying to remember if they ever did things she wanted, but I can't think of anything. 🫠

Also, his volatile temper is kind of scary. He would snap first at Angie before asking her for an explanation. I mean, they've been together for months with their arrangement, and he still couldn't find it in him to give her the benefit of the doubt or any semblance of trust?? He's seriously making it hard to root for him. But like I said, he wasn't bad all the time; he had his good moments too. But his a-hole ways consistently ruin the sweet things he does for Angie. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, this was a short read with 160 pages, and most of it was heavily focused on the physical aspect of the romance. And there were a lot of time jumps, but not specifically how long at times; it could be days, weeks, or months. It was still somehow entertaining to see how Damian is almost close to losing his sh*t every time he's around (or not) Angie. If readers want an OTT J/P MMC, he'd checked all the boxes.

- No cheating, OPD, breakup

Ok, i liked it and I’m not ashamed of it. Not completely. Maybe a bit.
But after reading romances with heroes that are whining weak man child, or selfish cheaters, this one has one of the best heroes lately.
If you don’t like stalkerish uber obsessed heroes this may be not for you, but if you love a hero that since he first met the heroine can’t stop thinking about her, is overwhelmed by lust every single time he thinks about her and is over jealous and possessive to the point of insanity this may be for you.
With this hero you won’t have to worry that he looks at other women or he might be tempted by any other woman than the heroine, he’s so obsessed by her it’s even funny.
She’s a goth hairdresser and he’s a rich tycoon, they meet at the salon where she works and it’s cute because the hero goes there almost weekly only to meet her. He must be the best combed man of the town.
He asks her to be his date for one evening since his mother is trying to pair him with his goddaughter (that is in love with his brother by the way)
They decide to have a casual affair, since there’s this great chemistry between them, and it’s so cute because there can’t be anything casual between them since he behaves like a caveman where she’s concerned.
At the beginning there’s a lot of lust, a lot of sex and a lot of second thinking because well, he thinks she’s not the right woman for him, he will need a woman who is of the same social status and she’s not that. And he wants to keep their affair secret. Because he doesn’t want his meddling mother to know.
After some months he asks her to move with him and to leave her job and the heroine is quite perplexed because she doesn’t want to be at his mercy.
It’s obvious to everyone but him that he’s madly in love with her, that the lust has turned into love and that he can’t live without her.
When he sees her with another man he hit the roof and confess his love for her in front of all his family.
No real angst here because they both agreed to a casual affair- which is clear that was never that- and the heroine herself had many doubts about the hero and the place she could have in his life.
What is interesting is the hot chemistry between them, that soon evolved into something more.
So no insta love but maybe insta lust that is more acceptable for me, since it’s more plausible that two persons are at first attracted to each other then after some time they fall in love.
The book is also humorous because the way the hero is obsessed with her is at the same time very hot and very cute.
I recommend it because IMO it has no triggers and its very very easy to read.

Re-read 15/2/18- i was craving an ott Alpha of my liking with a decent plot and Lynda chance's Heroes are unbeatable!!
Sadly its been a year since she last released a book so i had to scratch my itch with an oldie and re-read😅

Really hoping she releases 100 or so books like a cannon lol
🤣

the reason for my rating is that this book soothes my hunger for A ott jealous possessive hero. And that makes me love the book no matter what. ^.^

Damian Rule goes to a salon because he is obsessed with one of the hairstylists, Angie. Then, lots of sex and some romance (I think).

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between

-Quick read: it’s not that long, so you get through it rather quickly. The last book was recommended, and I’m anal retentive, so I had to read the whole series (and luckily, I had the second one on my kindle already).

-OTT alpha-hole hero: Lynda Chance specializes in the OTT, pretty much irrational alpha heroes, and Damian is definitely one of them. As a result, most readers I know either love or hate them. I’m stuck in the middle. I’ll admit I’m drawn to the possessive, all consuming love part, but not so much the controlling, insanely (almost insultingly) jealous, borderline stalkery bits. I was turned off by his dismissal of his relationship with her, and inability to verbalize his feelings, except to be crazy in his jealousy. There was no trust, only thoughts of possession and his driving need to keep her pinned down and passive during sex didn’t work for me. It wasn’t even about bondage, simply explained as “he couldn’t control himself if she touched him.” Which...yeah, not my thing. It mostly just made me side-eye him a whole lot.

-About that love part: Damned if I know why either of them have feelings beyond the physical, even after reading the book. I really had a hard time nailing Angie down as a heroine. For the most part, she lets Damian do as he pleases because she’s just as crazy drawn to him as he is to her. She was essentially a cipher, a placeholder with little personality to differentiate her from any other character, except she was the one he was obsessed with.

The Bottom Line
It started off reasonably well and I wanted to like it, but the crazy jealousy was a turn off. I couldn’t recommend this one. But I’m soldiering on and reading the other books, since they’re already on my kindle.

4.5 Stars. I loved this !!!

Damien is a business man who is sick of his mother trying to set him up with nice women so when he stumbles across the Gothic looking Angie at his hair salon he can't seem to stop thinking about her.

He asks her to come to a dinner party at his mother's house to try and put a stop to her meddling ways but what he wasn't counting on was for his Mum to be less judgemental than than he is.

This was super hot, I loved the alpha thing that was going on and I will be definitely reading more from this author.

Ok this will be one of the weirdest things I'll write in a review. Its almost hard to type. But. Well. Damian Rule was almost too Alpha for me. Omg did I just say that? Let me explain. Everybody that knows me, knows that Alpha males are my crack reading addiction.
The reasons are simple.
Possessiveness is paramount. I crave a man that is like "You are mine and mine alone and I'd never share you.. I don't even want another man gay or straight in your space." (my alpha paraphrase)
Bossy. I love it when they say strip or bend over.
Dominating. Like hold me down, clasp my arms over my head and make me baby. Love that.
Protective. Stand in front of a bullet and lay down his life. Take charge over her problems making them go away.
Here is the balancing factor that Damian lacked that put him a little to far over the alpha threshold.
He wasn't caring enough. He had no sweet alpha edge enough. He had it at moments yes it took too long for him to release it. But the fact is I felt his emotion being held like a caged beast underneath this veneer of steel control. So even though I wanted more sweetened alpha I Could. Not. Stop..Reading.

So yea still pretty much got a sexy high off this hit of crazy alpha goodness. If there had been a few scenes of Angie and Damian spending time together outside the bedroom.. Being together without the sexual mating dance they were always taking part it, this would have been an epic read. Lynda has a way of steeping the scenes in deep controlled emotion. That you feel like if the characters opened up and really spoke what they felt, you'd simply be blown away. I missed that here... Needed him to open up a little more. And show this wasn't all about sex. But hey that's the romantic in me. Still I really enjoyed this consuming read.
Totally safe my safe zone junkies. Damian was gone for Angie from the first moment.
Now I need a sweet alpha to balance the day. Sweet alpha hunting commencing.

Lynda Chance was the first author I had ever read that had heroes in her stories, who were so over the top crazy dominant alpha male possessive, that they made me shudder. I used to get every story she put out as soon as they hit Amazon, because I couldn't get enough of her alpha males. I'm not quite certain how I missed the last few of her books that have come out. I think I'm overwhelmed with all the fantastic books out right now, and somehow I wasn't as diligent at following her as I should have been. I came across Rule's Obsession the other day, and am I ever glad I did. It was a classic Lynda Chance story, with the yummiest alpha male I have read in a very long time.

Damian

Damian Rule is Chance's typical sexy domineering possessive alpha male. He's perfect in every way, in my humble opinion. He's the exact stereotype that had me devouring all her other books. This story starts out with Damian obsessing over a gorgeous beautician named Angie.

Angie

Angie loves to dress up in goth clothing, but isn't truly a goth for real, she just enjoys playing the part and the busy clientèle she draws in with her unique looks for that profession. In their first encounter, Damian is a total arrogant dick. He just wants to fuck her and get her out of his system. He tells Angie straight up that all he wants from her is “just to fuck her”. He's gorgeous and sexy, but he's not THAT gorgeous and sexy, so she shuts him down and walks away.

Damian can't stop thinking about or stay away from Angie. She's under his skin, so he goes to her again, and when he does, he absolutely cannot keep his hands off from her. He takes Angie's breath away and melts away her resolve with his touch, his filthy words and the smoldering hungry look in his eyes, when he's staring at her. Angie caves and gives into his demanding nature, and when it happens, it is scorching hot.

I loved this story. Damian completely sucked me in with his filthy talking, and the sex was Smokin' Hot. It's a very sweet story. I really liked both of the main characters, but all the secondary characters were charming as well. This story has no over the top drama, and it has a very sweet HEA. Rule's Obsession completed my perfect Friday night's entertainment!

Good but could have been better. It showed promise at places but was flat other times.
I like the idea of an obsessive dominant but staid businessman H, who tries to resist the pull of an 'unsuitable' h, a goth chick, but it pulled its punches. The h wasn't a true goth but a poser and the H was unidimensional, whether as a silent stalker or as an obsessed possessive lover.

I liked the H's sweet flighty mom and her shenanigans and such about her elderly sex life.
The h also shows spirit in bursts and short spikes like when she tries to check the extent of his commitment a couple of times.
Otherwise the story goes along in mono tone.

This was definitely short and OTT read. The H was the super obsessive, crazy jealous caveman type and completely 100% all about his h.

This is the type of H that is okay in booklandia but if he stepped into the real world I would have kneed him so hard and this would have ended after the first chapter! I don't know what this says about me but I liked it anyways. Yes he was a complete jerk bordering on loco but I still soaked it all up!! Lol, must be my mood or something but this was a good read. I did wish we could have gotten more sentiment or emotion from Damien. He felt a tad bit remote with his h. I wanted more mushy soft sweetness from him.

After all his obnoxious talk about his "right" type of forever girl and how Angie wasn't it and all the crap about her just being temporary, I wanted some acknowledgement that he was wrong or at least admit he'd been a jackass for even entertaining thoughts like that about her. That would have totally earned another star for me!!!

I'm in such a good mood right now bc I just read this book and it was wonderful. Lynda Chance is one of my favorite authors and one of only 3 authors that are auto buys. This story gave us exactly what we have come to expect from Lynda Chance. The H was to die for perfect; completely obsessed with the h, possessive, protective, and ALPHA MALE to the max. The h was different from the kind of character this author usually writes but I really liked her. She didn't let the h bully her and was really her own person. The story was very enjoyable and the sex was off the charts. I usually save Lynda Chance books for times I am feeling sad or stuck in a reading slump bc I know I'm going to get a perfect read. Thank you Ms. Chance for another fantastic book!

3 stars, very short, silly story,
This is a short story from LC. Blink and it's over. There was no conflict in this romance, in fact the only thing that seemed to keep Damien and Angela apart was the same thing that brought them together, the big secret from his mother and their combustible passion for one another. Not that there was a lot of evidence for the latter. In any case once the confession of feelings was over so was the story.

Not my favorite Lynda Chance. If you like erotic romance then this would work for you. If you like an OTT hero with a likable heroine, this would work for you. I just need more story, and I didn't like that despite the H being OTT he kind of led the h along for awhile. At least that's how I took it. I like my Hs to be more decisive.
