You Keep Breaking Us

Rate this book
We were the ultimate example of that couple who can’t live with each other, but can’t seem to function without each other.

The minute I met Callum Strass at fifteen, I was a goner. We were the golden couple of our high school. The king and queen of prom, the sweethearts voted most likely to get married and have babies, and the absolute idiots who decided to attend the same college.

Because that’s when it all fell apart. The naïve, puppy love versions of ourselves couldn’t see the obvious cracks we’d had back in our hometown. But they sure revealed themselves when we started living in an off-campus house together with four of our other friends.

Within a semester, blow-out fights, jealousy, every-other-week breakups, and my abandonment issues had him bowing out. Not just on me, but on the house, too. Until our senior year, when his parents refuse to keep paying rent on two places.

So he moves back in, and I’m forced to live with my ex. The one who has ruined all other men for me. The one I still cry myself to sleep at night thinking about. The one who confesses, during a run-in in a dark hallway, that he hates how much he still loves me.

And when he starts dating again, he might as well plunge a knife straight through my heart. Despite our breakup, I’m on the verge of losing him for real this time, and possibly forever. The only option is to seek help for my deep-seated trauma, the thing that Callum always encouraged me to see someone about. The thing that eventually pushed him away.

Put two of the most driven, headstrong, and passionate people in any relationship and it’s bound to combust. We’ve always had that twin flame kind of love.

So, together we might burn. But we also might heal.

📚YOU KEEP BREAKING US:📚 Is a full length stand-alone romance book by Author Carrie Aarons. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

So there I was days into a book funk until this book...As soon as I started it I was pulled into the storyline, the break up of a life time glaring at me in the face, fractured friendships put on the line as their renting quarters was under threat of breaking up this tight knit group of friends if someone new had to be added to the mix.

Bevan and Callum have been tied to each other in some way as soon as they clapped eyes on each other when they were young. Now they have to navigate a new chapter in their lives without that other person beside them. Bevan is carrying some childhood trauma on her shoulders so even though Callum is the love of her life she's always kept a wee bit of herself back until her fears came to fruition.

These two had somewhat of a toxic relationship, both knowing which buttons to push and both pushing them as far as they could until it was pushed too far and one had to walk away.

But when Callum can't find anyone to rent his room and he's got to move back in where his now ex lives, it's a recipe for disaster.

This was a quick, angsty, read which I really enjoyed.

From the moment you look at the cover for this book, one word pops up into your head. Heartbreak. Not that little pain where at the end of the day, you’re feeling ok about everything. No, this is the kind of heartbreak that is gut wrenching and soul crushing where it feels like your emotions are on fire 24/7. That is the feeling that I got when I looked at this book but sadly, that’s not what I felt when I read it.

shrug-gif

You Keep Breaking Us is the story of long time lovers Bevan and Callum who have broken up and are trying to navigate their College Senior year without each other. But with a tight knit group of friends and Callum moving back in to their house, avoiding each other is going to be mission impossible. They've hurt each other in the past and sometimes some wounds can't be healed.

tumblr-mg9qp733-Y51rbp9zuo1-500

Now that they’re around each other full time now, Callum and Bevan are finding it difficult to move on from their past and each other. But when tensions arise and more blame is thrown around, can this couple finally make their way back to each other?

As I’ve said earlier, I was really expecting to be hit with all the feels and sadly that never happened for me. I didn't feel the passion, the anger or the betrayal for anything and if i'm being completely honest, the only thing that I felt was frustration. I needed Bevan to calm the f*ck down sometimes and I really wanted to smack Callum for his idiocy.

Even though I didn't love this one as much as I thought I would, it was still and ok read for me.

I have conflicting feelings on this book. It's not that I didn't like it, but I just wish it had more angst, more emotion, just *more.* from the blurb I was prepared to be absolutely gutted, and while I did tear up a bit, this didn't hit me as hard as I was hoping it would.

So here we have Bevan and Callum who have been head over heels for each other since they started dating in high school. Six years later they are in their sophomore year of college and their love is finally coming to a head in the worst way. They are finally admitting to their toxicity, but Bevan seems to think this will be like all the other times where Callum will come back to her, but she realizes the look in his eyes: he's officially done done her. Fast forward two years and both of their hearts are still broken, neither of them have moved on, they still love one another.. but they just don't fit. Bev has extreme abandonment issues, comes off as bitchy and unfeeling (even though that's so far from the truth. She feels *everything.*) and when they would fight, it would feel like a war zone with both of them saying hurtful things they couldn't take back. So to say they are both struggling is putting it mildly. And it only gets worse when Callum moves back into the college house he once lived in and right across from the girl who's still possesses everything in him.

Now from this alone you'd be thinking that Bev is the ultimate bitch who destroyed a good man just because she could, right? So wrong. She said some messed up shit, yes. Did things she shouldn't have, but if you look as to WHY that was, you could see she was always so afraid that Callum would leave once he saw how broken she was.. and he did. She's finally seeking the help she needs in hopes that Callum will see this change in her and come back, but soon she's doing this for herself. And man, I loved the change in her. As someone who had her own heart broken by her father at such a young age, I related to this girl so much and I was cheering her on the entire time.

As for Callum? Ugh. Look I didn't hate him, but I thought Bevan could do a lot better. He acted like the entirety of their relationship problems was solely on her, but it took so many people pointing out how selfish and unconsidering he is before it finally sank in. He wasn't a good partner either, and instead of erasing Bevs fears, he fed into them all the while wondering why she was so crazy. *eye roll.* I understood that he was tired of it all, and they did need a break to work on themselves, but he went about it in the worst way and made it seem like he was an angel when he broke Bevans heart over and over again too. Like he moved out when he broke up with her during their sophomore year and basically cut off everything to do with her, including their mutual friends. Friends who didn't blink twice when he had to move back in. And then it was brought up that when she was alone and stranded somewhere years ago he didn't go and get her until AFTER he was ready to stop playing video games and then was mad that she was mad? Like dude, get a mirror. You're not innocent in this. And then in present day he would jerk poor Bev around with his mixed feelings until she finally stood up for herself. Maybe I do dislike him more than I thought, lol.

Overall I'm glad they got their HEA, but only for Bevan. That girl deserves it all.

From the beginning of this series I knew Callum and Bevan’s series was going to be a super emotional ride for us and boy it really was. Bevan has issues that she has never really faced from her past and her mother feeding her nonsense about never letting men close because they just use you doesn’t help with her issues and Callum knows she needs to deal with them in order to move forward. Bevan lashes out constantly to Callum because in her mind it is only a matter of time before he abandons her too and this causes them to have some serious relationship issues. The constant fighting is slowly draining them and Callum knows he has to let her go and leave her behind so maybe she will finally get the help she needs but he just can’t stay in their toxic relationship any longer. Bevan knows she is the cause of ending her and Callum but she always expects him to come running back except this time it is truly over but her heart doesn’t want to let him go. After a few years of them suffering in silence still longing for the other but knowing deep down their separation was for the best Callum tries to move on yet something always holds him back. Bevan can’t let Callum go yet she knows she needs to change if she has even a small chance of getting him back but will he even want to come back? This book was very emotional showing how easy it is to fall in a pattern with someone you love and letting go of the toxicity because it’s slowly shredding your hearts. I loved how eventually Bevan took a hold of her life, tried hard to learn to let go of her past pain, and see the error of her ways. I also liked how the others showed Callum he wasn’t completely innocent in their relationship because he fed into Bevan’s insecurities and the constant fighting, they showed him he was selfish at times and that didn’t help things. Now they have to figure out how to manage this new territory they are in. Do they move on and leave each other behind? Will they be able to move forward after changing their ways and if so will it be together or separate? I loved this book and all the emotions that bled from the pages, it showed us the pain that the past can cause and the damage it can do if we never really learn how to deal with it, but it also shows us with the right person by our side we can fight for a future we want and be happy.

I come to love Carrie Aarons books. Her stories are that good and emotional.

Since I've read Amelie and Gannon I wanted to see what happens between Bevan and Callum. Because in the previous book they were in a bad place, constantly fighting with each other.

Well, the timeline of this book is set 2 years after the previous book. They are not together anymore and the beginning was quite sad for me. What I liked in particular was, that their story is written by both POV, so we can see both sides. Both of them are hurt from the other person's attitude and they definately are still madly in love with each other.

This romance is a story of a second chance in love, owning to the mistakes you made and healing your heart and start to love again. I loved how they both grow up through the story and proving that you can save love, only If you truly love each other.

Saying that, we have a HEA my friends and it it a good one. It is set another 2 years from the end. You will love it 😍.

Thinking back to when I was a bit younger, I absolutely don't recall writers being as shallow as they appear to have become in recent years.
My opinion here is sure to be unpopular as this writer is herself popular and quite prolific, as well.
Nevertheless, it's my review, my opinion. If anyone thinks they're going to see something here they don't like, they can kindly avoid this review. If they choose not to it's on them, and I don't want to hear about it.
In a nutshell, what we have here is another couple who is unable to give me one reason to think they belong together. Despite being told how epic their history is, I felt nothing between them - except lust.
Fucking like rabbits through most of the book does NOT convince me they have a deep and abiding forever love. Their relentless lust for one another does not make them soul mates. If I'd skipped all that crap the book would have cut the length of the book to a third of what it was.

This was a toxic relationship, mostly due to a toxic heroine and her arse load of ridiculous and unnecessary drama. Basically the template for NA romance. Been there, done that - too many times.

Bevan and Callum have had a toxic, on/off again relationship for literally years, until one time Callum finally breaks up with her, for good this time. Or so he says. But it feels final to Bevan and she notices he looks and sounds differently this time. Perhaps her issues finally drove him away for good. Perhaps it's time for her to address said issues?

Years later and now he's moving back into the home they (Bevan, Callum, and some close friends) all share. Well Callum moved out and now is moving back in because he can't find anyone to sublet his old room. If that isn't a sign of the apocalypse I don't know what is. This will either be the final nail in their toxic coffin, or a second chance at the love they both still have for each other.

I have to say this right off the bat - this book hit a little too close to home for me and had me remembering living through my brother's long on/off again relationship with his ex-wife, so I wasn't probably the best person to review it. That being said, I enjoyed this story, partially. What did I enjoy? The tight friendships Callum and Bevan have with their circle of people. The slow heal they both did. That they worked everything out. What didn't I enjoy? Well, unfortunately, I didn't particularly like Bevan. Not that I didn't appreciate that she finally worked on her issues, issues which were pretty damaging and I felt for her because of them. But, she was unpleasant and immature for a lot of this, and like they constantly both said, she was the big b word. I don't like that word because it's such a negative and derogatory way to refer to someone, but in this case, it was accurate. Callum wasn't without his faults either, though, both within the context of their relationship woes, and outside of them, in his own personality. Their relationship was definitely toxic, but I liked that they eventually fixed it, fixed themselves, and fixed each other. Not my favorite story of this series, or my favorite couple, but still mostly entertaining, and as always with this author, well-written.

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: You Keep Breaking Us
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
AUTHOR: Carrie Aarons
TROPE: contemporary romance, second chance, college romance
TYPE: Standalone (Not listed as a series but this book takes place after Just About Over You)
POV: Dual POV
MY RATING: 5.0 Stars

I have been dying to read Callum and Bevan’s story since the couple were introduced in Just About Over You. Carrie did not disappoint in telling us their story. As soon as I received the book, I consumed it in one sitting. Stayed up late reading it. I was obsessed.

Callum and Bevan have been together since they were freshmen in high school. Callum took one look at Bevan when he went to help her open her locker and he fell in love. Within days they were going on their first date. From there, they spent six years experiencing all their firsts together. First boyfriend/girlfriend, first time, first everything. They graduated high school and went to the same college together. During their sophomore year in college, Callum came to the realization that they were toxic for one another and ended the relationship.

The couple along with their friends were renting a house on campus. When Callum and Bevan broke up, he moved out and his room at the house remained empty. Fast forward to the semester start of their senior year, Callum cannot find someone to sublet his room in the house and his parents can no longer afford to pay rent on two places. When the sublet search falls through, Callum makes the decision to move back into his old room…across the hall from his ex-girlfriend Bevan.

This is an emotional second chance romance story. Bevan and Callum have gone through a horrible break up filled with name calling and throwing things. Every one of their friends just wanted them to break up. They couldn’t take it anymore. Neither Bevan or Callum wanted to take responsibility for the role they played in the demise of their relationship. When Callum starts dating again, Bevan realizes that she has to do something or she risks losing Callum forever.

I thought the author did a great job of exploring the issues that Callum and Bevan faced in their relationship. Bevan was a young woman with deep seeded emotional issues. She had severe abandonment issues when it came to the men in her life. She didn’t grow up in a loving home despite what Callum’s parents tried to offer her as far as parental support went. Callum was a bit of a selfish individual and that played right into Bevan’s abandonment issues. The two of them started their relationship so young that they didn’t really have time to learn how to develop better communication skills. The experienced everything together; however, they didn’t have the added benefit of other relationships to help shape them.

This is one of the most gut wrenching and heartfelt books that I’ve ever read by Carrie. I knew that the couple were going to go through a lot of heartache before they got their HEA and the author didn’t disappoint. The sex scenes within the book were filled with a lot of emotion. There is something to be said about reading a scene described by the POV of people who know each other so intimately. It feels different when reading it. Like your experiencing something better than when a couple comes together for the first time.

I loved this book. I have no complaints about anything. I think that if you’re a fan of really good second chance romance books then you’re going to love this book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

***May contain Spoilers***

Carrie brings us back to the lovable Prospect Street gang and as usual did not disappoint!

Bevan and Callum’s journey brings out every emotional response a reader can have: tears, joy, frustration, laughter, anger, and the dreaded sickening pit in your stomach as you stress about what comes next for them. Their journey may even help you re-examine your own foibles and pitfalls in your own life and relationships.

Their love story is not a pretty or an easy one. Art truly mirrors life here as we journey with Bevan and Callum on their rocky, winding and sometimes broken path. How can they learn to balance finding instant love at fifteen with all the mess of life and adolescence that immediately transitions to the precipice of adulthood as they attend college/live the collegiate life together. When two people grow up together and experience every one of their firsts together it is assumed that it all ends with their HEA. Neither Bevan or Callum envisioned a different outcome or thought it could go wrong. Even the most beautiful of love stories can fall apart without vulnerability, communication, and choosing to address the issues that hinder us.

This is where we find Callum and Bevan, in the aftermath of the implosion of their love. It affects not only them but their friends/chosen family unit. Neither one of them is happy and it takes circumstances out of his control to bring Callum back to their shared house. This forces him to address his feelings and his own resentment and see (with the help of his friends) his own contributions and missteps in his relationship. Bevan has a lot of healing to do from her childhood trauma and emotional neglect. She has to learn to cope with her emotions and choose a different path/outlet for her frustrations and insecurities.

Reading their exchanges will drain you emotionally, but in the way great stories do. Their journey is one of loss, hope, and healing. I loved being able to experience it.

“I knew, though. From the moment I laid eyes on her, I knew. Something changed inside me on a molecular level. I would never be the same after glimpsing this girl.”

This book seriously touched my soul in a way that I don’t think any other book has before. From the very beginning it struck a chord with me, having married my high school sweetheart, I felt like I connected so deeply with this story. I couldn’t stop reading.

Bevan and Callum are 2 people that had so much growing up to do. They both needed to mature, not only as a couple, but as individuals. I have to say I truly feel like Bevan grew so much throughout this entire story, she’s so much stronger than she gives herself credit for. And no matter how much it hurt/hurts, they needed to breakup to work on themselves.

I definitely think it took Callum a little bit more coaxing to realize his faults, but he too is stronger than he gives himself credit for. He knew they were toxic, and he had to break the cycle. The push and pull between these two was crazy, and their chemistry was out of this world.

This book truly shows that love isn’t always easy, it’s work, and it’s hard, but it can be truly beautiful. These two grew so much throughout this entire book, and I loved every minute of it. Absolutely a top read of 2022 for me!!!!

I read a lot of second chance romances, because quite frankly, it's one of my favorite tropes. I will admit though that a lot of second chance romances pretty much tell the same story but with different characters. This second chance romance is NOT just the same old story. Sure, You Keep Breaking Us is the story of high school sweethearts who break up in college but never stop loving each other. But this story doesn't take us 10 years into the future after the characters have supposedly moved on but then find each other again. Nope, this story is more unique than that, and I loved it.

Bevan met Callum at 15 and it was love at first sight, but after six years together, their constant fighting and her abandonment issues drive them apart, and Callum finally ends their relationship. Now, after 1-1/2 years apart, Callum is forced to move back into the college home that he shared with Bevan and their friends. Bevan isn't ready to live with her ex-boyfriend especially when he starts dating again and then admits to her that he hates that he still loves her. Bevan realizes that she might lose Callum for good, so she finally seeks the help that needs just as Callum starts to realize that he's been selfish and that Bevan isn't the only one to blame for their downfall.

One thing that I really appreciated about this story is the "realness" of Bevan and Callum's relationship. These two really do love each other, but they have one of those relationships where they can't live with each other...but they can't live without each other. The timeframe of this story makes sense: it isn't a quick fix yet it doesn't drag on for a decade either. Having met these characters earlier on in this inter-connected series, I was really afraid that their story was going to get much uglier than it did and I'm glad that it didn't, because additional angst and drama really just wasn't needed. Bevan and Callum's story was emotional enough all on it's own.

This is very well told story of soul mates, twin flames, finding their way. If you've read any of the other books in this series (and if not, you should), then you'll also enjoy seeing all of Bevan and Callum's friends again too. You Keep Breaking Us was a heartfelt page turner that I highly recommend.

You Keep Breaking Us is Carrie Aaron’s latest book in the Prospect Street series. It can still be read as a standalone. However, if you have read the other books, you definitely saw Callum and Bevan and their tumultuous relationship. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t excited about this book because after seeing their relationship in the past books, I just kind of thought, these two should really not be together. But, I am so glad I gave this one a chance because it made me look at their relationship completely differently. You can finally understand where all the fighting is coming from. It’s heartbreaking and gut wrenching. A very hard read in many parts. Once I started, I could not put this down. These characters took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I felt all the feelings in here. If you are looking for a book to break your heart and put it back together, look no further. I’d definitely recommend it.

Healing love!

Callum and Bevan have been together since childhood but when their fights get too much, they break up. When Callum can't get anyone to take over his room in the shared house, he ends up moving back in. Both need to grow and heal but the close proximity also brings back all the old feelings. Can they heal together and regain the love they broke? Will they take this as the end and step away from each other? Carrie really knows how to give you a read that pulls out all the stops whilst giving humour and emotion! Can't wait for the next book in the series!

If you have read about Callum and Bevan in the previous Prospect Street books you knew this was going to be an emotional roller coaster, and it did not disappoint!

Callum and Bevan were high school sweethearts, madly in love, planning their future until all they did was fight all day everyday. Callum couldn't take it anymore and ended the relationship, it is now two years later and he has to move back in with his ex because he couldn't find someone to rent out his room. How are they going to live together and not kill each other?

This is a gut punch. It has been two year and neither one of them has moved on. Not one date, kiss, hook up, nothing. They are both still madly in love with each other, and that makes Callum angry. He is ready to move on with his life without Bevan. All Bevan wants is Callum back, she knows that she needs to get some help to figure out some things, but how can she prove to Callum that she has changed when he doesn't even want to look at her.

First off, I love Bevan, yes she has her flaws, but that girl speaks the truth and we all need someone like that in our lives. I love how she took charge with Callum when he started being hot and cold. She finally realized that she deserves better than that! Second, I am glad that Callum realized he was somewhat of a selfish bastard. He needed to grow as well before they could get back together, it was not all on Bevan. The chemistry between the two was insane! You can tell they both truly loved each other.

This was an amazing second chance romance! They both had to grow before they could get back together, and some rough moments had to happen!

Great job!

I must admit that I wasn't sure if I wanted to read Callum and Bevan's story. Having met them in the previous books, I knew that they had a tumultuous relationship, and the journey to their HEA was just par for the course.

"I've loved you as hard as I possibly can, and it's never been enough."

Callum Strass and Bevan Fabin have been in love since they were freshmen in high school. They were together for about six years before Callum finally called it quits. It was six years of friendship and love, but also six years of insecurity and fighting. Two years apart with hardly any contact between them, and then Callum is living back at their shared student housing for their senior of college.

"I was meant to love you. So I'm in, all in. No more going back. Will you love me? Will you be with me? Will you work on this?"

This story was pretty darn angsty. I really liked Callum and I admired his strength in keeping himself away from Bevan for two years. She was much harder to like. I understood her issues, stemming from childhood, but Callum had been with her for seven years of ups and downs and, seriously, if that didn't show her that he was committed, I don't know what she expected from him. It felt like he was never going to do right by her, whatever he did. Their love was deep and all-consuming, fiery and vibrant. I loved that they worked through their issues and came out the other side in a much healthier place. Although, it has to be said that I didn't like that, ultimately, it felt like Callum was on the backfoot and constantly having to reassure Bevan that he loved her and that she came first. He may have loved her abrasive side, but I felt like she was a bitter pill to swallow at times. As a reader, I needed their story to round off the series but, as I said, Bevan was hard for me to like but I'm glad she got the help she needed, even though her fear of losing Callum completely forced her to seek it. However I felt about these two, it didn't take away from the author's writing skills. I love this author and can't wait to read her next novel.

I have been waiting for Bevan and Callum's story since I read the first Prospect Street book and got a glimpse into their breakup -- and Carrie Aarons did not disappoint with You Keep Breaking Us.

This story is an emotional rollercoaster. It will punch you in the gut over and over again. The push and pull between these two is unreal, and I didn't know if I wanted them to just stay apart or find a way back together! Well, okay, of course I wanted them to find a way back together. And it takes A LOT for them both to get to that place.

Going into this book, I definitely knew Bevan better as a character, based on her friendship with Taya and Amelie. So I was definitely excited to see how she was as the heroine in her own book, and how her, um, bitchiness, affected her relationship with Callum. I must admit, I loved finding out that Bevan wasn't alone in the couple's split. CA did a fantastic job of writing both of these flawed characters. Yes, Bevan can be difficult, but I loved the lightbulb moments for Cal when he realized that he had to shoulder some of the blame in where their six-year relationship began to fall apart as well.

There was so much growth from both of these characters, and I was thrilled to see Bevan and Callum grow up and come back together.

Bevan and Callum began dating in high school six years later they are in college and the relationship has completely fallen apart. Two years after they split up circumstances mean they have to go back to living in the same house.

I liked this book but from the title and synopsis I really expected this to be full on angst and in floods of tears however I wasn't and I am not sure why. Of the two main characters Bevan was my favourite. Her past has really messed her up to the point she can't talk about her feelings and reacts negatively sometimes aggressively to conflict. Bevan is continually waiting for Callum to leave her and when he does her world falls apart. I didn't really like the way Callum seemed to lay all the blame onto Bevan and took no responsibility for anything that happened. He seemed to think he had been the perfect boyfriend and only when it was pointed out to him by mutual friends. Honestly they both frustrated me but I would gladly given him a slap to knock some sense into him.

4.25 Stars! ❤️

Having read Then You Saw Me and Just About Over You, I couldn't wait for more! The moment this third book was announced it became an anticipated read of mine. I picked it up as soon as i could and got right back into the Prospect Street world. I really enjoyed this story!

Bevan and Callum's journey grabbed my attention and didn't let go! Once these two have to live together again, i couldn't wait to see how things would play out. Their story isn't an easy one and i so appreciated the realness shown throughout. I was so glad that i got to jump into both of their minds and dig deeper with them.

These two characters had me feeling such a range of emotions from beginning to end! Their chemistry was great and i could feel their connection.

With You Keep Breaking Us, Ms.Aarons has created a great read that will hook you and make you feel so much! I can't wait for more from her!

Callum and Bevan fell in love when they were teenagers, but neither is prepared for the challenges that their relationship will face. Due to her past Bevan was just waiting for something to happen to break them apart and rather than Callum giving her the support she needed his lack of understanding only exacerbated the situation. When their relationship reaches a breaking point, they realize that sometimes love may not be enough.

When their relationship ended Callum left the house they were sharing with their friends however for financial reasons he finds himself returning. Sharing the same living space while trying to move forward with their lives is proving to be more difficult than they expected especially since the feelings they have for each other are far from over.

Callum and Bevan take us on an angst filled journey as they must deal with their pasts, both as a couple and as individuals, and decide if what they have is worth fighting for.

I'm a wee bit torn. I enjoy second chance romances because I'm a sucker for couples that are meant to be together, even after being apart for an extended period of time. In the case of Bevan and Callum, however, there was just an almost insurmountable amount of toxicity between them that made me feel for the most part that maybe they were better off apart. The fault is on both sides, if I'm being perfectly honest. These two made their share of mistakes and hurt each other--sometimes, unintentionally and other times, on purpose. Bevan had one particular issue holding her back, and she needed to realize that seeking help for it was something she owed herself and not Callum or anyone else. As for Callum, there were moments where he came off as selfish, but just like Bevan, he needed to mature and take responsibility. I do wish this had a bit more angst, but all things considered, it ended rather satisfactorily. You Keep Breaking Us receives four stars.

Y’all this book!!! You guys know my favorite author is Carrie Aarons but there is nothing like her college romances. The drama, the fire ahhhhh love. That’s exactly what Callum and Bevan are.

They are a flame with so much love and intensity it bled through the pages. It was sad to see them apart because I could see how much they both still loved each other. And even after a year and half we knew they were each other’s ones.

Their growth is literally kisses because you see how toxic they are in the previous books, but then you slowly see how they learn from their mistakes and change as individuals and as a couple. Plus they are sooooo hot. Love them. They made me cry then smile. The best everrrr.

You Keep Breaking Us is part of the Prospect Street series but can be read as a stand-alone. It’s an emotionally charged second chance romance that centres on Bevan Fabin and Callum Strass and is written in dual perspectives.

Bevan and Callum are high school sweethearts who have a very toxic and tumultuous relationship. While there relationship was built on love and friendship it was also full of insecurities.

The beginning of You Keep Breaking Us sets the scene for Bevan and Callum’s relationship, constant fighting, breaking up and getting back together and a whole lot of angst and tension.

Bevan was an incredibly toxic character who was constantly dragging and wearing Callum down. She’s damaged and full of insecurities that she doesn’t know how to handle or get past. With every action, Bevan is actively pushing Callum away while also begging him to stay.

Callum is the quintessential good boy. He’s caring, confident and all round lovable! People gravitate towards him. But he’s also been an enabler for the past 6 years of there relationship.

It’s obvious from the beginning of this story that these characters do love each other immensely but the insecurities of Bevan’s past have created a toxic environment for not only them but there whole friend group. No one wants them to be together anymore, except Bevan. The name calling, door slamming and constant walking-on-egg-shells tension is too much for everyone.

You Keep Breaking Us was an interesting read for me, I instantly liked Callum and instantly disliked Bevan, but I think that’s what made this book such a great read! I liked that the toxic and damaged one in the relationship was Bevan and the enabler was Callum.

Too often, second chance romances are about the damaged bad boy who needs a good girl to save him. It was refreshing to get a different perspective of this roles reversed romance.

For me, it’s a testament to Carrie Aarons talent as an author that even though I seriously disliked Bevan and was actively rooting for Callum to move on with someone new that I still loved reading You Keep Breaking Us! It was emotionally charged, angst ridden and addictive! I was desperate to get to the end and see what happened. This book absolutely did not disappoint!

This story starts with a bang and not a good one at that!

I couldn't help but to feel everything the main characters went through, and how they fought for love eventually.

You Keep Breaking Us is such a powerful, emotional and deep read. I was so fully invested in finding out what would happen next that I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the interactions between all of the characters.

I absolutely loved the epilogue, it was the perfect ending!

Once again Carrie has been able to deliver not only a beautiful (also not so pretty at times) love story, but one so real it’s as if my best friend was telling me her story.

The intense love that B and C had for each other was intoxicating and beautiful but toxic at the same time.

My favorite was the real and rawness of Bevan and Callum ‘s story. All love stories have the good and bad, it can’t always be rainbows and sunshine and that’s what I love so much about Carrie’s books!
