Nantucket Sunset #1

The Copperfield House

Rate this book
The Copperfields were once the most beloved family on Nantucket Island. Twenty-five years ago, their lives changed forever. And they never saw one another again.

Not until now.

In the spring of 1997, Julia watched as a judge sentenced her father, the renowned novelist, Bernard Copperfield, to twenty-five years in prison for conning, swindling, and stealing millions of dollars from his dearest Nantucket friends and fellow artists. With her family in ruins around her, seventeen-year-old Julia packed up her bags and ran away, pledging never to return to Nantucket ever again.

Now forty-three, Julia Copperfield finds herself in the midst of another crisis. The publishing company she built from the ground up is on the brink of collapse; her husband, Jackson, makes an announcement that shocks her to the core; and her adult children have left her an empty-nester. During those long nights alone, she finds herself daydreaming about long-lost hours at the The Copperfield House, back on Nantucket.

To add insult to injury, Bernard Copperfield has just been released from prison— and he's headed back to The Copperfield House.

It's been twenty-five years since Julia has seen any of her three siblings or parents in the flesh. But it's time to face the horrific mess she left behind— to return to Nantucket and demand answers for why her father committed his crimes and destroyed the family she'd once adored.

But upon her return to the gorgeous island of Nantucket, Julia finds something she never imagined she would— a love she'd nearly completely forgotten about, and a creativity that she'd thought remained deep in the past.

Love, creation, and family await her. And as she falls into the throes of a life she'd abandoned so long ago, she soon begins to question her father's crimes... and put together pieces to a far different puzzle.

Dive into this brand-new women's fiction series set on the Island of Nantucket. A glorious world of beautiful beaches, frothing waves, cobblestone streets, and a beloved cast of characters. The series tells the story of the Copperfield Family, their return to Nantucket Island, and their healing after decades of pain and loneliness. Together, they can be better than ever before.

I enjoy an empty-headed read once in a while especially after Oprah reads. But this book…is below even the norm in empty-headedness. Characters; ridic, setting; even more ridic, plot line; never fleshed out in the slightest bit. The whole thing is what attempts to be a set up for future books of the series. Maybe at some point the author will deal with the elephant in the room. None of the characters have even so much as asked, “uh, elephant, why did you ruin yourself, us, the house, your marriage, the whole island of Nantucket?” It needed to be asked in this book. Not the next. So bad. I can’t even.

I have zero clue how this book has such high ratings. The story line didn’t really evolve until 75% through the book and even at the end, nothing was solved. I found the whole premise of the book so unrealistic.
An entire family just ceases talking to one another completely when the father goes to prison? What? Then come back together as if nothing happened?

Then when we find out the main “problem” in the story at 75%, it doesn’t seem likely that the family wouldn’t have listened to the evidence and been able to put the pieces together then that Julie puts to together in present day? I almost stopped reading the book half way through and probably should have. I skimmed the majority of it and it was meh.

Love and forgiveness

I ended up skipping the middle chapters of the book because it was so predictable. They had to learn a lesson about forgiveness, but without faith in Jesus Christ, love and forgiveness are meaningless and temporary. The characters were so arrogant, I couldn’t connect with them. And the author kept repeating “her beautiful mother, Greta,” or “gorgeous sister, Alana,” like we forgot their names or how they looked. Very shallow, disappointing book. I wanted to like it but I didn’t.

My daughter accidentally bought this on my kindle so I had to read it :) but was pleasantly surprised! A feel good book that I thought would end up being a romance but ended up being about a family coming back together after 25 years. A good heartfelt book. Very easy read.

I'm not sure why this book has so many stellar reviews. It's so unbelievable to me that a man that committed white collar crime where (from the sound of it) its not possible he was even able to execute and that his super close-knit, loving family would just cease speaking to each other for 25 years?! Like, who does that? There's no way he would have served 25 years on such flimsy evidence, and there's no way they would all just pretend each other doesn't exist. Maybe 5 or 10 years would have been believable.... and why didn't he have to pay it back?

Even for guilty pleasure, feel-good fiction, this just fell flat for me. At least it was a quick read, or I wouldn't have finished it. Maybe it gets better as the series goes on, but it starts off so ridiculous.

Another awesome page turner from Katie Winters. The Copperfield House starts another new series by Katie Winters…and it is going to be a kick ass series! The storyline is incredible; the characters are out of this world; plot twists and turns keep your heart in your throat; and while your emotions are begging for some smidgen of a HEA…you know redemption won’t happen fully in this book.

So bring on Book 2 already! I can’t wait to see what happens next! You definitely want to grab a copy of this book right now—it’s going to blow you away! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was totally mesmerized by it!) ❤️❤️

The Copperfield Family is devastated when their father Bernard is sentenced to a twenty-five year prison sentence when he is convicted of embezzlement. The siblings leave town and the family drifts apart. Fast forward 25 years and several of the siblings have family issues of their own. The author does a great job portraying the pain and emotions the Copperfield family faces.

Can they overcome years of hurt and abandonment? How will parents Greta and Bernard adjust to the new life.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion

WOW! A wonderful new start to a new story of a family with trauma, discord, and lost time. A heartwarming tale with wonderfully conflicted characters. Katie has done it again with her awesome description of the scenery at Nantucket and leaves you wanting more. Can’t wait to see how this family moves forward. I received this arc for an honest review.

Oh my word! This was one of the best books I’ve read this year. I already love Katie winters but this story of the copperfield family just blew me away. There is an old romance, a break up or two, a prison sentence and a father coming home. And just so much more! I really can’t wait to read the next part of this saga!!

Katie Winters' first book in her new series, A Nantucket Sunset Series, is a gem. Copperfield House is as much a character as the other individuals. I found the plot line exceptional - an engrossing mystery. It's amazing how one event can radically change people's lives. I absolutely recommend this book and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Wow!!

Great start to this Nantucket series. Characters took place so easily in mind's eye with Katie's great descriptions. Each of these family members have been through a lot. What a wild roller coaster of life for each of them. Thoroughly enjoyed this first book and anxiously await the next book.

The Cooperfields

One man, one woman, one son, three daughters, a family that was envied by many until the dreadful day they put the man in prison for twenty five years. So many years, so many hurts to forgive. Could they forgive, could his innocence be proved. I have a feeling there are many events about to happen. I can hardly wait for the next book.

Great story

When I started this book I wasn't sure I was going to like it. As I read on !began to know the characters and I couldn't put it down. I found myself rooting for the characters to move forward and find their way out of the past. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and following them into their future..

I never actually write reviews for books.

However, this one.

It left me speechless for months. And not because of it’s greatness.

This was undoubtedly the worst book I’ve read all year. The storyline was utterly unbelievable. Character development was a zero.

I found it ridiculous that it ends before you find out anything— clearly just setting you up to buy the next book. Except that this was so bad, I don’t even care what happens to any of them.

I have no idea how people are rating it 5 stars. Do you all even read anything of substance ever? I appreciate a good mindless, easy read— but this was pathetic.

I can’t get over a scene where the sisters are discussing the 80’s movie Pretty In Pink and how they hated that Molly Ringwald’s character ended up with James Spader. They then go on to say that Blacklist James Spader is so much better than Pretty in Pink James Spader.

I had to read this scene over and over again because I was dumbfounded by it.

Uhm hello? Molly did NOT end up with his character in that movie. At least not in the universe I live in. I agree that he’s so much better in the Blacklist— but come on.

So poorly researched and just plain wrong.

Please don’t waste your time. I wish I hadn’t.
