Tired of living in Hell, Cam, the Sin of Lust, decides to find a way to escape and go back to Earth, where he can live a colorful and more meaningful life. This is not what I was expecting… The ideas are there, but the execution is lacking, and it reads like one long scene. There is no time jump except after the very first chapter. All the rest is mostly one long scene with very few time jumps (and the few time jumps are short).
Honestly, I feel that not much happened in terms of plot… It’s mostly about Cam being bored, but wanting to remain on Earth, and trying to find a way to stay there and evade whoever is sent to retrieve him and bring him back to Hell. Cam also has a very intense and addictive relationship with his coworker Giselle, but I say intense because that is what’s written in the book, not because I felt any chemistry or intensity between them. It could have been entertaining as a few problems are thrown into Cam’s life, but as soon as a problem arises, it’s solved pretty easily so there was no tension or anticipation about what would happen.
It was hard for me to get into this book. It is fairly short, but I feel as if nothing of importance happened in the first half. There was sex and we got to know the main character, but nothing that happened really sucked me into the book. I continued reading it because it was short, and I was hoping that it would get better, but honestly, it was underwhelming. We don’t get to see much of Hell, actually, most of the plot happens in the hotel Cam owns, and his character and behavior reminded me of Lucifer in the Netflix series, but Cam was not nearly as smooth and charismatic as Lucifer is in the series.
Overall, the characters were pretty unidimensional and lacked depth. I can’t even say that they have a personality since most of the book is dialogue, sex, and a pretty straightforward plot. There were a few “shocking” revelations, but since we didn’t get to know the characters, and I felt no connection or attachment at all to any of them, those revelations did not shock me or bother me. It was just new information about a character that I don’t really care about, and that had very little effect on the plot (if it can even be called a plot).
Cam is described as a very sexually active man, who has fiery and intense relationships with many people. He has a past with his coworker Giselle, and appears to be quite put out and sad when he learns that she has someone new in her life, but not once in their interaction did I really feel any sexual tension or deeper connection between them. The same can be said for his relationship with Brandy: they go from having a casual (if not a little weird) conversation to running into each other’s arms and having torrid sex. Cam said that it was just sex and nothing more, but I still found their interactions to be stilted and awkward at times, instead of hot and spicy, but maybe that’s just me being picky.
Overall, I am really disappointed with this book. Although there is explicit smut, I did not feel the chemistry between the characters, and the main characters all felt bland and shallow. At least it was a quick read, but as far as demon stories or smutty books go, I’ve read much better ones.

This book is a dark red velvet. I have no idea how to explain this association but it feels steamy, smooth, and rich. If I could compare it to anything, it's definitely reminding me of season 4 of the tv show Lucifer on Netflix. Darker, with a soul, this story tells us how the demon of Lust, Cam, left Hell and ended up on Earth, running a hotel.
This story throws you right into the middle of everything, and for most of the times this has been used in books - I did not think it worked. However, here, somehow, it works perfectly. You get to spend the time with the characters, demon Cam and the Hedonism Hotel’s night manager, Giselle, in real-time, learn about them & get into that nighttime New York city, expensive and luxurious mood. You get an insight into what it is like to be a demon from Cam's perspective, what Lucifer was like. And you get to see the growth that Cam has throughout the book, how he becomes a man after being a party-loving demon.
And since I love (to an unhealthy amount) the show Lucifer on Netflix, I could draw lots of parallels to it. But it never felt like it was anything but inspiration. Everything in the book felt organic to the characters on the page.
I do wish we got more of the background on both Giselle and Cam, I would love to learn about their past, both together and apart.
Overall, this is a steamy and emotional read with twists and turns and moments that will not let you put it down. Perfect for those who loved Lucifer on Netflix and want to get a story that reminds them of the show but is unique.

I came for the heat and stayed for the feels.
This is the kind of book where you feel something sexy encroaching the whole time, and you can't help but grow more and more eager for the payoff. And the payoff is—*ahem*—rather nice. (That BATHROOM scene. 🌶️ Forever lives in my head!! *fans self*) This book does an excellent job of teasing with heat while hiding a romantic, heartfelt, and compelling storyline under the surface. I felt myself drawn in for shallow reasons but quickly becoming invested in the romantic plot and the characters.

The Demon of Lust trading in Hell for a night club in New York, where all his fantasies roam free, just as love sneaks in through the cracks? Sounds deliciously sinful!
This was a quick and easy read with relatively low conflict and drama, making it perfect for those looking to dip their toes into the paranormal genre without sacrificing the heat of a whirlwind romance. I enjoyed seeing the role of Lust cast in the shadow of love, and the development of Cam’s character and self-awareness in this regard was well laid and portrayed. However, I do believe that the forbidden nature of what sparked between Cam and his night manager (forbidden in more ways than one 😉) could have been up-played more to add that extra dash of naughty delight and satisfaction to these two fighting for their happy ending. I also would have liked to see more around the conflict and stakes, especially in regards to the demon hunters closing in, to add that little bit extra tension and take this story even further.
Nicole Northwood’s new series is off to a heated start with Cam and Giselle, and would be perfect for fans of hit series, Lucifer, who are looking for a little less crime drama and a bit more romance and paranormal action in the sheets.

I love that this story is about a demon living in our world in New York. The setting of The Hedonism hotel was a great spot for these characters to be. Luci... perfect 😂 lots of hot smut time 🥵 all around a great story with plenty of world building to set up for the next book. I read this in one day as it was a quick read. If you like a good paranormal romance definitely recommend picking this up

Do I want to be friends with Cam or do I want to be with Cam? Yes and yes. Cam was such an easy protagonist to fall in love with. His search for something more than himself is something we can all relate to. I will never get tired of the “demon from hell is actually a big softie who wants love” trope. Giselle is such a fucking catch. I, too, fell head over heels. She’s attentive and sweet and understanding. You can kinda see the twist coming, but it’s so fucking sweet regardless. I love them both and want to tuck them into my pocket and protect them at all costs!

I also love the world here. It’s open for the rest of the series to build upon. I can’t wait to see some of these characters again. I need more Axel! And more Satin 😂

Okay, I’m gonna need a cold glass of white wine. Maybe the whole dang bottle. It’s the only way I’ll recover from this book!
The Devil You Know is a quick read, but it’s definitely one that stays with you for a while. And I’ll be the first to admit, the “heartless male character discovers he actually is a big ole pile of loveable mush and falls head-over-heels” is one of my favorites. So maybe this book was just right up my alley to start with, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
(Also, I ADORE the TV show Lucifer, and this has ALL the Lucifer vibes).
Cam is the demon of Lust who managed to escape hell and is now running a deliciously raunchy hotel in NYC. The guy is charming. Sexy as all get out And is living his best bachelor life. But he got a couple of problems: hell wants him back. Badly. And he’s maybe falling a little head-over-heels for the manager of his hotel, Giselle. Who is sweet and alluring and maybe has a couple secrets of her own.
These two were kinda perfect together. I’m the type who doesn’t always love spice scenes if I don’t feel a deeper connection between the two characters. But you can FEEL Cam’s adoration for Giselle! So when they do the down and dirty (and they do it quite a few times) it’s hotter than hell itself. Like…DANG!

So this book was definitely a bit spicier than what I usually read, but I ended up really enjoying it! The whole concept of a New York hotel owned by a demon was really interesting and I loved the combination of romance in a modern setting with paranormal elements. The story was witty, lighthearted as well as dark and I really rooted for the main characters. Overall very well written and a great read!!
So this book was definitely a bit spicier than what I usually read, but I ended up really enjoying it! I am not sure I have read the books in this genre before - this is a paranormal romance. The main character is Cam who is the Demon of Lust ruling over a realm in Hell and passing judgement on the sinners. He is also shacking up with Lucifer. He decides to take a break and escapes to New York, where mayhem ensues. Cam is alive and likable, and his many love and lust interests keep things interesting and hot - prepare for feeling like you need a cold shower! It’s also at its heart a love story, as sweet and true as such stories get. Highly recommended as an introduction to this genre.

It's been a long while since I've read a book like this one. I was super into paranormal-type romance for a while. This book was a nice return to the genre. If you're going to visit, it's always nice to visit something well done.
The book follows a demon (one of the lords of hell) who's left his post to run a hotel in NYC. He is lust. So, there are several spicy scenes in the book.
I enjoyed the main characters and overall plot, though the ending seemed a little inevitable.
The spicy scenes were very spicy and written well. 🔥
Overall, this was an enjoyable romp with heart, something fans of the genre are sure to enjoy.

This was ... wow ... insert emoji (*steam, fire, kiss, fire, fire, kiss, blush*). Wow! I knew going in it would be a lot of heat but I was not prepared for the intensity, haha. I should have stayed out of the kitchen, hahahahahaa.
Northwood does an exceptional job writing the intimate scenes and really made me checking to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder HAHAHA #readinginpublicproblems. But it was a great story and although it ended in completion I feel like there are more aspects the author can entertain in the next novel.

But it was a great story and although it ended in completion I feel like there are more aspects the author can entertain in the next novel.

I have read other books by this author and this one was quite a change from her previous works.
I enjoyed the development of her main characters and the surprising twists the story took along the way.
It was just steamy enough to sexy without being raunchy, Nicole did a great job in writing the intimate scenes with her main characters.
I look forward to to reading more about Cam and Giselle and where the story takes them.

This was my first (actual) paranormal romance (and i believe my first ARC too) and I couldn't be happier! Between the longing, the tension, the plot twists! I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put the book down! Through each chapter I found myself really rooting for Cam and Giselle as they try to navigate through the obstacles put in front of them. With each looming threat I couldn't wait to see the moment that they could truly be together in happiness! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Very lucky to have a copy of “The Devil You Know” in my hot little hands (excuse the pun!)
A demon, living in New York City, in The Hedonism Hotel – how apt is that? This book was full of the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle, led by the demon of Lust, Cam, who leaves the Second Circle of Hell to run the hotel. Cam leave his lover, Lucifer (of course!) with a condition attached: he can explore and live in the world of mortal humans but he cannot give into temptation. At the same time, he is hunted in New York City by demon hunters who are disguised as NYPD officers, and falling for the one person he is not supposed to – Giselle, the night manager at The Hedonism Hotel.
Being thee demon of lust, Cam is easily distracted and get caught up in anything (or anyone) that seems to stir the passion within him; you can see why Lucifer wanted to keep him on a short string. There is not much actual chemistry between Cam and his love interests, purely lust and smut! It is a steamy rollercoaster of sorts, where we see the disconnected demon swoon when he meets his match in Giselle. And when I write swoon, I mean steaming, smouldery, sexy shenanigans!
The interplay between Luficer and Cam was an interesting angle and not one that I had really seem before, and although it was only a small part of this book, it was intriguing and I hope it unfolds more in the next books in this series.

The Devil You Know is a romance, a steamy, smolderingly hot romance, the kind of book you're grateful has an art cover so no one wonders why you're smiling to yourself as you read it in public. It's a very, very good romance. But it's more than that.
Cam, the Prince of Lust, demon from Hell, is funny. He's got a wry, self depreciating humour that makes me want to quote half his lines in my group chats to make my friends laugh. (I restrain myself to no more than a third of his lines.) And he's got stuff going on in his life besides love, or maybe the love is a catalyst for the rest of his life. Lucifer wants him back in the unchanging world of Hell. Demon hunters want him off Earth or dead, preferably the first one. God isn't impressed with him. Cam's not only choosing between being with Giselle vs not being with Giselle. He's choosing between the security of an eternally static existence and the pain and joy of growth.
Giselle has her own demons to fight (pun absolutely intended) but to avoid more spoilers, I'll only say that I love her, and she is not an afterthought in someone else's story. She is on her own journey, and she's found herself in the liminal space of the Hedonism Hotel, deciding which destination her travels will take her to next.
Last but not least, Lucifer keeps a cat named Satin, and I love her with my whole heart. If she's not in a future Hotel Heat book, I'm throwing my Kindle out the window.
If you're looking for a story with love, and self discovery, and the occasional appearance from a distractingly attractive Prince of Wrath, The Devil You Know is the book you've been waiting for.

Steamy and fun!
I love the concept of this book... the Sin of Lust escapes from hell. Tired of ruling over his circle, this prince of hell goes in search of something more. And let me tell you - he definitely finds it. This book is full of steamy fun, amazing chemistry, and lots of sarcasm and wit. I truly enjoyed every bit of it. The author did a wonderful job explaining the world without bogging down the story with too much detail. The book is well written and the characters have depth and are definitely lovable.

Nicole northwood has done it again! The devil you know is a perfect read for spooky season. Cam the sin of lust is a character that is wanting a change and goes to earth to find it! Highly recommend it!

I was in an ARC group for this book! Just know this review is completely honest.
Here’s the deal... I can’t rate this book a 5 for two main reasons.
1. The writing style is not my cup of tea. Not to say that it is bad, but I generally enjoy a more “adult” or “sophisticated” writing style. This was more YA with adult topics.
2. There wasn’t really a conflict, or at least not a big one that would extend through the series. Effectively, I am not sure what future books in this series would be about.
That being said, I would read future books in this series. If you were a fan of the tv show Lucifer, this might be a good read for you. There are certainly parallels between this book and that show with it being a book about a demon coming to Earth and enjoying Earthly pleasures.
Overall, I would recommend this book to people who are interested in the paranormal romance genre.

I really enjoyed the little extras that Northwood included in this novel, such as Cam’s inability to remember names and the nickname given to Lucifer.
If you enjoy quick, well-written, erotic paranormal romances; involving Demons, Guardian Angels, Demon Hunters, and even Lucifer himself. Then this is definitely the story for you.

Oh this book!! Nicole knew what she was doing with this one. There were twists and turns I did not expect and I LOVED everyone of them! Cam and Giselle have my whole heart and I wanted so much more of them! Run! Don't walk and go get this book! I think you will love it!

I was provided an ARC of this book, and all opinions given are honest ones.
I rated this a three for a couple reasons. It was very hard for me to stay in the book, there was no event or page or paragraph that left me wanting more. The first couple chapters reminded me greatly of the TV series Lucifer - hotel, party life, sex and control. You very rarely (but two times) see the main character leave the hotel. I feel like there should be more to the story in the first book- we see Hell a little bit in the beginning and towards the end, but the story mainly remains on Earth. I do love a good Angel/Devil falling in love story, but this one just didn't meet my expectations.

Temptation abounds and soon a pair of demon hunters begin snooping around the hotel, one getting a little too close for comfort. I wanted to love this book so bad. I really did! Everything seemed completely up my alley, and nothing I am unfamiliar with. But unfortunately that was not the case. I can’t even pinpoint why, I just couldn’t get in to it. It took me so long to read because I could only read a couple of paragraphs at a time before I absentmindedly closed the kindle app on my phone. I think that was just a me problem tbh. I really had to force myself to finish it.
There was no real lead up to the couple falling in love for me. I felt that one second she meant barely anything and then literally BAM he’s head over heels desperately in love with her. I just didn’t feel the vibes between them.
I have given this two stars because I feel too bad to give one 😩

This is my first read where the MC is a demon and I loved it.
Cam, the demon of Lust leaves his second circle of Hell for a change from his monotony lifestyle. He opens up a hotel in NYC where he can experience the changing of the world but to also appease his never ending appetite for lust. He’s been away from Hell for too long; Lucifer wants him back and God wants balance restored.
Just as Cam finds the one person who changes his soul he thought was long gone, demon hunters come knocking on his door and the woman he loves disappears. What will Cam do or give up to get her back?
Being the demon of lust, Cam is like a walking wet dream who’s constantly thinking about sex. Everything about him screams nymphomaniac as his sin is constantly fighting to control his actions. So of course this book is dripping with sex. 🥵
I totally relate to his inability to remember names. It’s a theme throughout the book and I chuckle every time. And by the Gods! He is a smooth talker and the way he is with words. 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
I’m swooning, guys.
Cam is so freaking romantic. If he had a monthly letter where he spilled out poetic words I would be the first one to sign up for it. 🙌🏼
Okay but the first thing that I loved about this book was the dedication page, “Despite any shadows, may you always find your way home.”

Now this was the first book where when sex occurred, I got the emotion of love from it.
It’s usually yes, warm and fuzzy feelings but never, so beautiful and full of LOVE like from the two MC’s in The Devil You Know.
I FREAKING CRIED.
The love-making was that beautiful. 🥹😭
There was a lot of sex, obviously, we’re dealing with the demon of Lust here, but it wasn’t that kinky so that’s why the spice level is a 4/5 instead of a 5/5.
And here we are to the nitty-gritty 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Personally I wish there was more drama. More higher stakes and action leading up to the climax. That’s just my personal preference though.

The Devil You Know is the first book in Northwood's Hotel Heat series where she combines the paranormal with romance. This first book features Cambrian (Cam) and Giselle.
Cam is the Prince of the Second Circle of Hell, Sin of Lust. He is also Lucifer's lover. Cam is bored. Everything is always the same. He misses unpredictability and with a little help from Lucifer's cat, he decides to leave hell and head to Earth. He finds himself in NYC where he owns Hedonism Hotel. He indulges in earthly pleasures and rarely spends a night alone.
Giselle runs the day-to-day operations of the hotel, and has been known to find herself in Cam's bed. It isn't anything serious until she informs him that she met someone and they need to stop their carnal activities. Cam starts to recognize that he is feeling something other than lust, but is it too late? What would she say if she knew who he really was?
Meanwhile, Lucifer isn't happy with Cam that he abandoned his post and wants him back ASAP. He's sent Axel, Sin of Wrath, as a messenger to bring him back, but Cam isn't interested in returning to Hell at the moment. He likes the power and control he has in Hell but there is something far more appealing to him at the moment. Cam knows his time on Earth is running out but he's not quite done. He's prepared to face the consequences of that decision, but can he avoid complete annihilation by the demon hunters who are on his trail?
This was an unexpected but delightful read. While it was a little slower than what I'd like, I enjoyed the character development and the relationships described within the book. I found it intriguing to have a demon step away from his post in search of something new and different. It was fascinating to experience his awakening and I appreciated the author's creative decision with Cam's ultimate choice. I won't say more in order to avoid spoiling it for you.
It looks like the author has seven books planned in her Hotel Heat series, each one with new main characters but minor characters might reappear. I hope to have more Cat.

Lust personified, endless parties, seduction - what could ever go wrong?!
If you're someone who's looking for an easy-to-follow paranormal romance, then The Devil You Know is a good place to start! This was quite the entertaining read and, at times, it felt like watching an episode of a tv series. Several events are taking place one after the other so there isn't any time wasted in terms of the timeline. Some scenes were funny and I have to admit some of these nicknames made me cackle (perfect choice).
I think the issue I encountered was that it felt as if we were missing - something - about the main couple. Some parts were narrated and not shown and, using the tv show analogy, it felt as if we picked up somewhere in the middle of season one and we missed the first few episodes. Which meant I couldn't fall in love with them the way I wanted to (a fact that made me sad because I was really excited for them). Moreover, as things were taking place literally in the span of one night at least until 50% through the book, the way the relationship progressed felt a bit rushed for me. If you're someone who's looking for an easy-to-follow paranormal romance, then The Devil You Know is a good place to start! This was quite the entertaining read and, at times, it felt like watching an episode of a tv series. Several events are taking place one after the other so there isn't any time wasted in terms of the timeline. Some scenes were funny and I have to admit some of these nicknames made me cackle (perfect choice).
I think the issue I encountered was that it felt as if we were missing - something - about the main couple. Some parts were narrated and not shown and, using the tv show analogy, it felt as if we picked up somewhere in the middle of season one and we missed the first few episodes. Which meant I couldn't fall in love with them the way I wanted to (a fact that made me sad because I was really excited for them). Moreover, as things were taking place literally in the span of one night at least until 50% through the book, the way the relationship progressed felt a bit rushed for me. Cambian and Giselle are a thousand times perfect together.
I knew I would love The Devil You Know from the title alone. But add demons, angels, Lucifer and spice? Automatic 5 stars.
This is my first by Nicole Northwood and was so impressed.
I loved her writing style and the way you fall in love with the Hedonism world. Everything from the way the aesthetics paint a vivid picture in your mind, to the characters themselves.
Cam and Giselle are such powerful characters, but together, they’re incredible. From the moment we first meet them, it’s obvious of their chemistry.
And don’t even get me started with the bathroom scene? Lives rent free.
The Devil You Know is book one in her Hotel Heat series, and I can’t wait for book 2!
Highly recommend for any paranormal romance lover
