I'm a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and now, a full time novelist. Between those careers, I've also worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, divemaster, taxi driver, construction manager, and truck driver. I live in the Sea Islands, near Beaufort, SC, with my wife and youngest daughter. We also have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and have also lived in the Florida Keys and Cozumel, MX.
What. A. COOL. Story! I got this novella on preorder, since having been a huge Wayne Stinnett (and Jesse) fan over the years and following his newsletter, I was interested in what this collaboration would look like. It was a great story and it read very smoothly…I couldn’t tell that each author had written a separate part. Unfortunately, all that came out of this was a WAY longer TBR, after I get caught up on all of Stinnett’s books. Now I’ll have to read three other authors’ backlists. Exciting!
These four Authors seamless bonded a story to include one grand adventure to include the individual characters from their books. It works… it worked… and was a fun great read for me.
Each Authors individual flair shows through as a search is underway to find a missing sailboat and wife. The sailboat is found but no wife which sets up exciting and mysterious circumstances leading to the book’s conclusion. Highly suggested you set aside some time to read as like me once I started to read I did not want to put it down. Recommended - Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Star

Lots of adventure! Although I have not read any of the other novels associated with these characters, I did quickly dive into this book, and it kept my interest.
Apparently, there’s such a thing as tropical writers – writers who live in the tropics and put out the sort of sunny maritime serialized drivel that fans of Cussler and the like might get into. Four of them got together to write this novel, which is cute and clever way to self-promote by using cross-references/characters from their own books. Is the novella itself any good? Well, it depends on your definition of good. It’s perfectly readable and very detailed in its way; you can tell the writers actually live (at least part time) the island/sea life. It’s also mediocre at best: a search for a woman who goes missing; a woman who works for national security something or other and it’s going to take all these author’s grizzled seafaring expertly protagonists to find her. Bland as bland gets, although fast paced and checks all the marks for the lowered bar, lower-end of popular fiction, this is just the sort of thing one might find as a Kindle freebie and just the sort of thing that ought to be free, because why would you pay for that? Well, the tropics are nice. The thing reads quickly. Looks like the authors, at least, had fun. A rushed wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am thriller that’s light on wow but serviceable enough. Low bar indeed.
“Graceless” is a shinning example of teamwork by a group of very talented, and creative authors, working together to produce a very readable book.
The characters within these pages are representative of characters within each coauthor’s individual works. These characters also come together in order to attempt the resolution of a National Security issue involving a kidnapped IT Coder, “Grace Fitzgerald” brought to them by her husband “Nathan”.
Are they successful? You’ll have to read it to find out.
I Highly Recommend this book. I’m also hopeful this team comes together in the future to provide another thrilling novel in the “Tropical Adventure Series”.
Another great Caribbean adventure book narrated by Nick Sullivan. This was a collaboration novella written by Wayne Stinnett, John H. Cunningham, Nick Sullivan, and Nicholas Harvey. I am very familiar with Nick Sullivan's books and characters, but he occasionally writes characters from these other authors into his books as well so they all felt very familiar. I definitely need to check out these other authors books as well and soon! I can't believe how quick these talented authors pulled off this great novella and how well their ideas flowed together to make this book. I really hope to see a sequel!
I read this in an hour! The story moved at mega speed and I did too. It's a fast, exciting read. I've been a fan of Wayne Stinnett since his first Jesse book hit Amazon. This one moved at the speed of light. I galloped through it to get to Jesse's part which was the closing of the story. The novella was seamlessly written and kudos to whoever proofread and edited it. There were no slip-ups or weird gaps. These writers put together a fast moving story and they brought all their characters together so well. Their writing styles melded well. I hope they do another. Highly recommend for a quick read that's extremely entertaining.
A Great Beach Read: Wayne Stinnett is a bit of a hero of mine. He was the reason I started to write action thrillers. I also read his book on writing within the Amazon domain and gained a lot of insight from it. Wayne manages to churn out books much faster than I can, he is prolific in his writing career and the majority of the books hold an excellent story. Graceless is a collaboration between Wayne Stinnett, John H Cunningham, Nick Sullivan, and Nicholas Harvey. I’ve read books from each of these authors. They seem to be the “Rat Pack” of the Florida Keys if any of you can remember who the “Rat Pack” were! With authors of this quality, Graceless was guaranteed to be a good beach read. And that is exactly what it was. Excellent for a bit of escapism into the islands surrounding the southern part of Florida. The story weaves its way around an elusive lost treasure that Jesse and his family get entangled with as the story unfolds. The authors work well as a group tying the storyline together and intertwining it with Jesse’s stepdaughter’s wedding. The use of the event was an excellent way to draw me into the storyline. As with all Jesse McDermit books they are not overflowing with action and adventure. The story is more like life takes over and the action sort of fits in. Graceless leads us along a merry path that involves a considerable number of characters from older books as they all strive to ensure the wedding is a success. I am not sure if Wayne has been writing in the first person for maybe a bit too long. He seems to have made Jesse and the other main characters almost invincible. In the older books, Jesse would make the odd mistake and not always think of every eventuality and have a plan in place to deal with it. I also felt the fight on the beach could have been set up better and then choreographed in a more natural way. In my opinion, it was a also very clumsy way to introduce a very important part of the plot. My last complaint is how they found the first gold ingot, this in my opinion could have been handled better. The characters in my William Brody Action Thriller series always have faults, as I believe they are more human and lovable if they can’t deal with every single thing that comes along. Overall, Graceless is an enjoyable amble through the tropics. I would have preferred a little more development of the storyline especially around the lost gold. It all seemed a little vague and haphazard with little plot development to drag me as the reader into the story. It almost felt like this was the beginning of another series and we were being led into a larger story that would unfold as the books come out.
I’d give it 27,000,000,000,000,000 NEGATIVE (MINUS) STARS !!!!!
This book STUNK !!!!!!! (Stinks !!!!)
Book opens with obligatory, trite, over-done, over-played, “Hollywood,” waking up scene, a “yellow lab,” coffee, a computer, a satellite phone, a backpack, a “sip,” as in “I could barely sip my coffee,” and talk of “ran [ a ‘run’].”
There’s at least ONE, “ I’m good….”
Oh, and at least one primary character (AS DOES THIS ONE) MUST HAVE:
Banks and and banks and banks and banks and banks and banks of, “…computers, servers, and everything encrypted….” And be, like, all computery and secret and stuff.
All trite.
All obligatory.
All apparently unwritten LAWS of writing.
PICK SOMETHING TRITE, but know a LOT about something — one thing, like, as in, perhaps, maybe, possibly — SAILING !!
AND — FOLKS — YOU GOT A BOOK GOING !!!! 😀
I kept checking my mail and watching YouTube. Just did NOT want to read this, was not compelled to read it.
I JUST STOPPED READING, BOOK WAS TOO STOOPID TO EVEN READ.
When I started this book, I didn't know what to expect. I am a huge fan of Wayne Stinnett and had not read any of the other authors. Reading Stinnett's books are such a great escape! So when I saw Jesse McDermitt was a part of this, I was not going miss to this. So very glad I picked this up!
As it's mentioned in the afterward, each author writes a section as it pertains to their popular characters with Nathan as the central character who ties them all together. The plot was perfect! And it was like seeing Jesse in a whole new way!
I now want to pick up the books for the other three authors and read more about their characters! I'm not going to reveal more about the story because you just have to read it. But if you like any of the authors, you are going to love this!
Looking forward to reading the next collaboration!
Have strayed a bit here & there reading the Jesse McDermott 29 book series, not wanting to just plow through it, but also loving having another good book lined up to read next without needing to search for something good. Starting in late Dec 2024 through today [2 17 25], having good books lined up has been an especially good thing given current troubled times in the US. Strong, intelligent, many former military, likely conservative in many ways, wealthy men & women who are passionate about the health of our oceans, and fighting against the ridiculous school yard bullies all grown up? Some great reading!
Looking forward now to reading more from these authors instead of starting a new search for other books narrated by Nick Sullivan.
Graceless is a great collaborative work! [And thanks for not allowing the dog/s to be killed :).]
This was a fast paced ride in the carribean as Nathan searches for his missing wife, Grace. It was fun, suspenseful, and easy to read. It was surprisingly smooth despite being written by 4 authors. However, it did become hard to keep all the various characters straight, especially at the end. I haven't read any of these authors before, so Jesse McDermitt pulling out a special task force smacked of deus ex machina to me. Also, I would have liked a bit more explanation of why she was kidnapped and where they were going and why. Still a great read, I will definitely be checking out each of the authors.
Standalone. 1st person pov. Surprisingly no violence. Not steamy.
What a wonderful book is “Graceless” by Wayne Stinnett, John Cunningham, Nick Sullivan and Nicholas Harvey. I haven’t read a book from any of these authors and I looked at the reviews on Goodreads and couldn’t resist obtaining it. I do not regret it as I couldn’t stop reading it. It is impossible to believe that four authors compiled such a flowing, face-paced story. The story was exciting all the way through and the characters were wonderfully contrived. I was so enthralled by this story I have pre-ordered the next book, “Timeless” by the same authors. I shall need to purchase more books from Wayne Stinnett and his co-authors in the future.
I received this as a freebie e-book, as part of a promotion touting the writings of this book’s four authors. Once I opened it, I couldn’t put it down. It was a quick, easy read, with thrilling fast-paced action. If I could’ve I’d’ve given it 41/2 stars, rather than a perfect 5, as towards the end, I found myself getting mixed up, with so many characters being reintroduced in the final chapter. Ultimately, however, that lapse didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. In the afterword, there were brief introductions of the authors, with accounts of how each contributed, and eventually wove their contributions, seamlessly, into one cohesive story.
Well gentleman. You created a absolutely fantastic book. I picked it up at 3 pm and wrapped it up at 9 pm. It was great the way the story just blended together ,one great cast member after another. I really enjoyed how all my favorite authors just blended together like an old family recipe. Itotally enjoyed the book and would love another anytime all those great minds put another together. Thank you so much Candylady68@icloud.com
This was a fun book to read, 4 authors, 4 sets of characters come together in one fast paced novel. All of the parts came together and it was a joy to read but came to the end too soon. Loose ends all tied up. Looking forward to reading the next collaboration with these 4 authors. I have read the series by all of the other authors, so the characters were all familiar to me and fit in with the plot perfectly.
I was apprehensive about the continuity of a book (novella) written and pieced together by four authors, however my fears were assuaged! This was an interesting, exciting, beautifully constructed storyline following these 4 authors main characters and locales. And, for me, it accomplished their mission of (Me) wanting more AND wanting to read more from two of the authors I hadn't read. Thanks Gents...looking forward to More!
A group of islanders from many walks of life lend a hand to find a kidnapped lady and return her to her husband. Four highly competent writers take a turn each in telling the tale of her abduction, discovery of her whereabouts, and the coordinated effort to remove her captors clutches. There's a good bit of high-end, newfangled technology working beside WW2 era technology and equipment. Well done men!
I was a little skeptical as I know how hard it is to merge different writing styles. All I can say is "WOW." Not only did they do a great job, but I am now looking at the Tropical Writers and going to delve into the other writers works. John, you and the other authors did a great job. I look forward to the next book from all of you and more of Buck Reilly!!!!
Not my usual sort of book, but very enjoyable! The plot raced ahead, with twists every few minutes, and the unlikely sounded perfectly natural and possible. Rather a shock to a reader accustomed to fantasy, romance, and the paranormal. But this change was definitely as good as a rest. I haven't read books like this since my 1960s teenage years, and the writing and story stand in good comparison to the Hammond Innes and Alistair MacClean's I borrowed from my father then! Recommended.
I'm a John C fan and now a Wayne, Nick, and Nicholas fan. Cammraudey in tale and life seems like kismet to me. Thanks guys and your teams. I appreciate it when great talents cooperate for the fans. We all win! While most rivalries are necessary to ensure that we, strive for truth, principles, competition and greatness, the rest are just urinary Olympics.
If you are a fan of any of the Tropical Authors this book is for you! I loved it all of my favorite authors in one novel! All of my favorite characters in one novel great idea and good story! My only disappointment was that there were situations in the story, mainly with Jessie McDermmit that I have not come across on reading his series yet, but now I have a glance into the future! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I'm a huge fan of Wayne Stinnett's books, I've read and re-read them multiple times. He's just a great writer.
This time he crafts a tale w 3 other writers I am unfamiliar with. It's a marvelous collaboration. Exciting, intriguing plot filled w delightful and endearing characters, it's a win-win. Except it's too damn short!!! Read it in about an hour I think. Keep up the good work, gentlemen!
Apparently, this book was written by four authors, each writing about 4 chapters a piece. A different way to do it. It was okay, and you couldn't really tell any difference in style. A man's wife is kidnapped while she is picking up their new boat. She works for a security company and people want into their files. The story just details his attempts to find her and all the people that help hm out. Most of which are not who they pretend to be.
The concept of this is stellar: four great tropical authors, writing a story together. From another POV, meeting their main characters in an ongoing story through four different worlds of adventure.
The writing is topnotch, the story pulls you in and keeps you guessing, and I can't wait to read more and more tales like this from these four brilliant storytellers.
Thanks go to all the authors for an exciting story all about a missing wife (Grace) and her husband Nathan who manages to get through the islands with the help of different people with the greatest of ease. What a book. Thoroughly recommend this book and the sequel due in August.
If I hadn't known this was written by four authors, it would seem to have been by a solo writer. A lot of action for a novella, with frequent scene changes and new characters, held together with the character trying to find and rescue his wife. My hat is off to the authors and look forward to the next novella.
Graceless is a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Four of the best Tropical Authors unite to create an adventure that moves with the speed and force of a tidal wave. Each section of the novella is unique to the respective author, using their own characters and settings to advance the story, but they combine to create a cohesive suspense tale that is well worth the read. Skillfully written.
Graceless works well as a stand-alone story, but it also serves as a great introduction for readers who want to explore more of the characters and storylines of each author.
It is hard to believe Nathan's pressure packed search for Grace was written by four authors. It reads as if has a single writer. Now that you guys have started an adventure with Nathan & Grace, where they interacted with all of your characters, sequels are called for!!!
I love every single one of you Authors and I really didn't know what to expect from Graceless. It blew me away! Action packed from the beginning to the end. It was so cool having all of the starring characters in one book. Job well done! I can't wait for Timeless. Rick Davis
