A collective of Blackfoot authors share their stories that come both from legend and from their personal experiences, with many of the stories translated into English from the Blackfoot language. The book is illustrated with beautiful full-color pictures and photos, which help convey the inspiring stories of Blackfoot traditional and contemporary traditions and cultures. The Blackfoot Confederacy is made up of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, and Amskapi Piikuni Nations of Southern Alberta and Montana.
First of all, I am not native, nor am I Blackfoot. I am not the intended audience for this book. That being said, I thought this was really lovely - the audiobook is really beautiful. I highly recommend the audio, really well done and stunning to listen to.
This was a lovely listen. I appreciated the English and Blackfoot languages both being used. Getting both the book and the audiobook really made this better. The illustrations are wonderful and listening to the stories really makes for a more magical experience. I like the selection of stories that was available within the constraints of what can be shared both in writing and with a wide audience.
I loved the illustrations, they worked so hard on all their images! This was fun to read, though I don't speak the language and I wish there was a way to hear the authors read their stories. (I just don't have access to the audiobook). I know little of the Blackfoot people, but I am grateful they shared their stories and love.
i love getting to learn about other tribes; hearing their language spoken, learning about their traditions and culture. this project is so valuable! great work, yakoke
