Wow! I’m not 100% sure what to say. I might have to come back.
This is a heartbreaking tale of Grace who has grown up with a mom( if you could call her that) who was mean, vile, torturous, and emotionally abusive to her. It’s Grace’s journey through life of what all she endured and how she comes out in the end! I highly recommend 100%!!!
5☆ I wish I could give you a 100 ☆ Grace's trials and tribulations only make her stronger.
First, her mother's cruel behavior and the way she is punished is heartbreaking.
Grace's teen yrs are no better, we all know how mean kids can be at school.
As Grace falls in love for the first time, is he really what he seems to be?
Will she push away the only friend she has forever, just because she is so embarrassed?
This is an emotional experience that you will not be able to put down.
This book had me in tears, heartbreaking and heartwarming. I had to stop several times to collect myself. Carol thank you for writing this story. And thank you, Ben ❤️ For your guiding light.
This author never ceases to amaze me! Based on true-life experiences, I could identify with so many things that happened throughout Grace's life. I can't remember ever reading a book that made me weep, but this one did, and it was so healing! Thank you for reminding us all we can either let things make us better or bitter, and with God's grace, ANYTHING is possible!
Carol Hall’s Saving Grace is a profound and soul-stirring novel that traces the harrowing journey of a woman named Grace, from the shadows of a traumatic childhood into the light of healing, faith, and forgiveness. It’s the kind of story that stays with you long after the final page, not just because of its emotional depth, but because it dares to speak to the darkest corners of the human experience—and illuminates them with hope.
From the beginning, we walk with Grace through a childhood overshadowed by the cruelty of her mother—a figure meant to nurture, yet instead, she breaks. The story doesn't hold back in its depiction of emotional and physical abuse, and the scars it leaves on a child's heart. As Grace grows older, she finds herself in another destructive cycle, this time in a marriage that mirrors the dysfunction she grew up with. The pain feels cyclical, inescapable. But then comes Ben—a quiet, gentle soul whose faith in God is unshakable. He doesn’t try to “fix” her, but instead speaks life over her brokenness. His patient love and unwavering belief in Grace’s worth become the catalyst for the most important journey she will ever take: the one toward spiritual freedom.
What makes Saving Grace especially moving is its raw honesty. Grace wrestles with the idea of a loving God—how could He have let her suffer so much? It’s a question many of us who have known abuse have asked. I know I have. As someone who also came from an abusive childhood, though my abuser was my stepfather and not my mother, this book hit home hard. It stirred memories, both painful and redemptive. Like Grace, I once couldn’t comprehend how a loving God could have been present in the middle of so much hurt. But I also, in time, came to know the love of Jesus. I found forgiveness—not to excuse the pain, but to free myself from its hold.
Hall captures this transformation with a grace that is nothing short of divine. Grace’s acceptance of God and the peace that floods her soul when she embraces forgiveness is the beating heart of this novel. It’s not an easy road, and the author doesn’t pretend it is. But it is real. It is holy. And it is healing.
Saving Grace is not just a story—it is a testimony. For anyone who has lived through trauma, who has questioned their worth, or who has struggled to understand the concept of divine love, this book is a beacon. It reminds us that pain does not have to be the end of the story. That even in the wreckage, redemption is possible. And that forgiveness—no matter how impossible it seems—is the ultimate act of freedom.
This book is a must-read. Not just because of the beauty of its writing, but because of the truth it carries: there is hope, even for the most broken. And there is healing, in the name of Jesus.
What a beautiful story of Grace Owens as she struggles through life’s challenges. As she grows from a child to young adult and becomes a mother herself the problems keep coming. She finds a friend along the way that helps guide her in the right direction.
