This is a solid follow up to the first in the series - Roll for Initiative - and picks up where that book finished. This is a LitRPG series solidly based on a D&D-like game system (and the authors do emphasise that it is D&D-like, not D&D, in their afterwords).

The quality of writing is consistent with that provided in the first book of this trilogy, and there is more character development - some characters more than others. I thought that some of the influences from particular D&D adventures were more evident in this novel than the previous one - especially in the first half of the novel, where I got a feeling of this partly being an homage to Temple of Elemental Evil, and the setup for the final novel does have some indicators of Tomb of Horrors being an influence.

Overall, this was another fun read, and I will be finishing the trilogy.

Regurgitated Pirate - What all the "in-crowd," are eating!

I have to say... I find LitRPG books to largely be annoying and almost always 90%, or higher, derivative. I mean really....? Is even a little bit of originality just too much to ask for?

Regardless, that is most definitely not am issue with this series. The premise is nice twist on a nonetheless standard theme, this is true. I

Good D&D series

Jewel, Terry and their friends are making their way to the evil tomb to see if destroying it will send them home. The mixed creatures they meet were fun and reminded me a lot of the game. There are orcs, goblins and some kind of blob creatures, but my favorite was Sissy. I am looking forward to the next book to see if they end the evil and get sent home.
