Michelle After years of darkness, I finally feel free. Happy. Safe. At Brooks University, I can be whoever I want to be. Until a ghost from my past shows up and pulls me right back down into the hell I left behind. The worst part of it is, he doesn’t even remember me. But he wants me. And even though I hate him? I can’t stop thinking about Eric.
Eric It’s taken years to become the man that I am. Confident. Adored. It’s my senior year and I’m the king of the campus. I have all the friends I could ever want and I’m never short on women who want my company. No one would dare challenge me. Except her. I have no idea who she is, but now that she’s on my radar? I won’t stop until I find out.

He was too awful to get over. Even in the present he was a fake and a wimp. Some characters are written so bad that I cant see them having redemption and he was definitely one of the worst! He was and is still a complete coward with pathetic excuses.

First time reading an ARC of a book and the first book I’ve read of hers and I loved it. I love the writing style and I love the characters. Good story line! I love that it’s taken place in Michigan! That’s where I live ♥️ the sex scenes are 🥵 some of the story is a little dark but it’s not a bad thing! Trust me! But I throughly enjoyed this book! Read it in one sitting. But that cliff hanger… 👀👀 whaaat! I need more, STAT. Lol. I highly suggest it. Quicker read too!
I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review so here goes....
The book starts off with flashbacks from the past which gave us insight into the two MCs. Michelle has a rough life her mum is a drug addict who beats her senseless and leaves her to raise her younger brother Jake. My heart completely broke for the girl if it wasn't bad enough she was getting beaten at home it was happening at school the place that should actually be an escape from her reality.
Eric is the popular guy with money and a good life he's also the boyfriend of the girl who's going out of her way to make Michelle's life a misery at school. They are complete opposites and even though they've grew up in the same area they don't know each other at all but one night a chance encounter changes that.
To me it felt really rushed one minute they are having their first conversation and within the same chapter they are both acting like they've always been dating and she is giving him her virginity 😕 it was just a bit to much for me I much prefer a slow burn (but that is just my personal opinion and preference) I absolutely hated the way Eric acted towards Michelle when they got back to school after everything that happened between them. He spent that time with her then the very next day went back to his ex girlfriend it was typical 🤬 boy behaviour but then again because it was all so rushed I felt Michelle's reaction was silly and one of what a serious girlfriend would be and not just a one night stand 🤷♀️🤨
I cant get my head around Eric not recognising Michelle when they bump into each other at a party four years later in college... I understand she's changed but how can you forget a girl you grew up in the same city the very same girl who gave you her virginity? It just made no sense to me at all 😫 At the start of the book I loved him I thought he was a sweet guy and would sweep Michelle off her feet and be someone who would help make her life that little bit better but of course he turned out to be a complete pig who his behind an ugly mask.
I loved Michelle's character development she grew into a strong, independent and confident woman who didn't allow anyone to walk all over her she was finally putting herself first and I loved that. The flashbacks she had about her home life growing up absolutely crushed me I just wanted give the girl a hug and tell her everything will be okay.
Overall I did enjoy it and can't wait to see what's next especially after that cliffhanger.
This arc was provided to me in exchange for a honest review The story starts with a flashback to the past from when the hero and heroine was in high school together, something happens which causes resentment from the heroine towards the hero. The present is set in college, in which they bump into each other after not seeing each other for a while. Although the hero doesn’t recognise the heroine because of how much she has changed. Michelle is strong and more confident compared to how she was when she was being bullied in high school, however don’t confuse this for her being meek because she did often stand up for herself while being bullied in school. But she’s definitely grown into her own since then. I did enjoy the story and the writing was good, my only thing is I wished it was longer however i think this will be a series. The author definitely left us on a cliffhanger and now I can’t wait for the second book. I’d recommend this book as it’s a quick, easy and enjoyable read and the writing is good.
3.5⭐️ 1.5 🌶 V heroine High school/ college setting with flashbacks OW drama Mistaken/forgotten identity Bulling Mention of drug abuse
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves enemies to lover romance books. This book will hold your attention from the beginning until the end. You seriously won't want to put it down, I know I didn't.
The first line of this book "Every story starts somewhere. Ours starts on a night after a rainstorm." sets the stage for the whole book perfectly. Two young people meet at a time they needed something different even if it was for one short night. Eric wanted to just be himself and Michelle want to forget her life for a couple hours. Things happen afterwards that makes you feel for both of these characters.
Years later they meet by chance but Eric doesn't know it and Michelle(Elle at this point) does. Elle hates the memories that seeing Eric has caused to come forward. Eric doesn't understand why Elle hates him and it brings up things from his own past that he isn't over. It's the past memories that lead him to the truth.
This book does end on a cliffhanger and now I'm seriously counting down the days until the next book in this series comes out.
First ARC I’ve read and first book by this author I’ve been privileged to read! I LOVED this story! I really enjoyed the character development from Michelle and the way she became a force to be recorded with 🖤 I loved the way Michelle is with her brother, it really warmed by heart at their adorable relationship. I cannot wait to see how her and Eric’s relationship / friendship develops in the next book. The spicy senes were amazing 🔥🥵 This is definitely a quick read, I read it in one sitting because I wasnt able to put it down! I’m so excited to read the next one when it comes out because holly hell that cliffhanger 🙌🏼 Definitely loved the authors way of writing and the story line was amazing! Highly recommend 💖
I had the extreme pleasure of receiving an arc for Hate Me by EM Jackson. This is her first published book but you wouldn’t know it by reading this one. She managed to create a story that has me equally loving and hating characters at the same, had me anxious and swooning, and had me turning pages past my bedtime. This story is artfully crafted with such complex character development it reads with the ease of a well seasoned author. This story has love, hate, betrayal, loyalty, and just the right amount of steam. My only complaint is I need more RIGHT NOW and don’t want to wait for the next book in the series.
This is book 1 of 4 in the Brooks University series. Following Michelle on her heart breaking journey kept me wanting more. E.M. Jackson touched on very serious situations and did it with finesse. But that cliff hanger!!!! Should I feel bad for Eric?....I'm really not sure.
This book is about Michelle who try to overcome her past When she leaves her hometown And has a new start in college. But her pass is in jeopardy of being discovered when she runs into a high school crush.
Seriously could not put this book down. I had to know what came next. The characters felt so real and emotions were all there. I can’t wait to see what will come next!
I really thought this was a good debut novel and enjoyed the story line. I like the heroine and how she definitely has growth throughout the book, and has stayed strong through her circumstances. I was not a fan of the hero, he seemed all over the place with his feelings and what happened in his life. Also so sad about the cliffy but excited to get the rest of the story!
Well, friends... it finally happened! I got to read my first ARC (advance reader copy)!
This book was steamy 🔥 and a nice quick read, but wait, there's more... This is the first in a series! I can not wait for the next in the series because Holy cliff hanger!
The beginning starts off in high school (seniors), and it moved up to college years! There are some trigger warnings (substance abuse, abuse, bullying). I feel like the author did an amazing job not over doing it with these subjects!
The story line was really great and again, one I would continue to read! I fell for Eric & Michelle's story and I'm so happy I got to be one of the first to read it!!
