Shadow Thief

The heroine: Sorsha - she lives on her own and is sort of a thief. She pays her bills by breaking in to the homes of wealthy “collectors” and free’s any shadow creatures in their collections, while doing that, she picks up a few things from the collection that she can easily pawn and then sets the collection room ablaze as she is leaving.
The Heroes: Ruse, Snap and Thorn - The guys are all higher shadowkind. Ruse is an incubus who feeds off of sexual energy, he is very weak after Sorsha frees them from not feeding in a while. Snap has a forked tongue and can taste things and sense impressions of the history of that object and emotions attached to them, he can see the people in his mind that held those objects. Thorn is a warrior and is like a man from a past age, very formal and protective.
The Story: Sorsha is involved in “The Fund” which advocates for shadow kind. Though even The Fund is secret to most of humankind. When Sorsha was three her parents were killed, they were working for The Fund. She thinks that the group of hunters who killed her parents for interfering with their plans might be the same people who captured Ruse, Snap and Thorn’s boss, Omen whom they are trying to find. So the four of them work together to find him.
The book was narrated by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen. Many of the chapters were told from Sorsha’s POV and I liked Vanessa Moyen’s voice but she doesn’t do a very good job at doing male voices, she basically just whispers deeply. I found myself wishing that this was done more like a play with both male and female narrators within each chapter. I love Aiden Snow as a narrator, he has a nice deep voice for the Heroes.
The book was an interesting take on the paranormal. I always like paranormal books that take place in the normal world where regular mortals are in the dark, so to speak about the supernatural. There were definitely some steamy scenes, especial with an incubus in the mix. All the characters were likable and each of the guys had their own quirky ways that made it easy to see why Sorsha was enamored with them.
The story was intriguing and I liked the fact that the characters were working like paranormal private investigators while looking for Omen, using the different powers each of the guys had in different ways to find more clues to bring them further in their investigation. All the while, the group they were chasing after, were trying to find and capture them as well.

The heroine: Sorsha - She is very tough and independent and has a pet miniature dragon named Pickle. She spends her time freeing shadow monsters from human “collectors” who know about the supernatural beings and keep them in private collections. After rescuing a trio of higher level shadow creatures she helped them free their boss and is now working with all of them to take down a group that gathers and experiments on them.
The Heroes: Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Higher shadow creatures, the guys are fighting for the rights of their kind. Ruse is an incubus who feeds off of sexual energy, he has been feeding off Sorsha, he can also persuade anyone to do just about anything with his sensuous voice. Snap is called a devourer and his main power is something he is too afraid to use, but he comes in very handy with his ability to taste objects and feel a history of them. Thorn is what humans call an Angel, but he refers to himself as “Winged”. He is a fierce warrior. Omen is the boss and is a shifter, he is able to become a raging beast with deadly sharp claws.
The Story: Now that Sorsha, Ruse, Snap and Thorn have found and freed Omen. They plan to take down The Company of Light, the group that had held Omen and had killed the fae woman that raised Sorsha after her parents were murdered. Though Omen is not fond of having a human female on the elite team that he put together for this purpose.
I enjoyed the acrimonious relationship between Omen and Sorsha. She is so fierce and sassy that she rubs him the wrong way pretty much every time she opens her mouth and he does the same to her. It doesn’t help his dislike of her that his men seem more than fond of her and insist on keeping her on the team. Though when she starts displaying some power of her own, Omen begins to see her in a different light.
The narration on this one was also done by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen and I didn’t have the same issue while listening to this one as I did with the first. Vanessa seemed to do a much better job on the male voices this time around and I enjoyed the listen.

Sorsha still doesn‘ t know exactly what she is, but she grew up thinking she was a human and now that she has powers, she is working at getting a handle on them so she can use them to defend herself and her men.
The Heroes: Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Ruse is the incubus who is afraid of falling for Sorsha because the one time he fell for a someone, the woman only wanted him for one thing. Snap is a devourer and he recently had to use his main power and fears that it could be dangerous to Sorsha and the others. Thorn is a warrior angel and lives to fight and protect everyone working with them, especially Sorsha. Omen is a shapeshifter and is the leader of the group who has been working with Sorsha to harness her powers.
The Story: One of the guys has disappeared and the group is even more determined to take down The Company of Light. Sorsha is starting to like Omen a bit more as well. They had a very contentious relationship from the start but she recently found that he does actually care more about those in his charge than she originally thought.
I love all the characters in this series. There are many and they are all fun and the shadow creatures have some awesome powers. From the four Heroes, to the troll, the centaur shifter, unicorn shifter, basilisk, vampire, imp, and especially Sorsha’s miniature dragon named Pickle whom she freed from a collector who had clipped his wings.
This book, like the first two was told in multiple points of view and narrated by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen. I enjoyed the narration and this was a great series to listen to. I really like both of their voices and that really makes a difference in an audiobook. I can’t tell you how many books I have put back on the shelf because there is only one narrator or the narrators have voices that I just can’t listen to.
I also really liked how Sorsha relayed a great summary of the previous books at the beginning of this book and it was integrated into the story very well. I personally didn’t need it because I am binging the series over a weekend. However, I know how often I don’t get to read all the books in a series at the same time and wish there would be a good summary like this one had. So many authors take for granted that the readers have a much better memory than I do and just start each book in a series without any background.

The heroine: Sorsha - she found out more about herself at the end of the last book, some things that mean she might be as dangerous as she sometimes feared.
The Heroes: Ruse, Snap, Thorn and Omen - Ruse (the incubus), Snap (the devourer) and Thorn (the angel) are devoted to Sorsha. Omen seemed to be coming around, but is now wary of Shorsha’s powers.
The Story: Sorsha and her band of cohorts continue to work toward taking down “The Company”. Their job is made even more difficult when they find out who is pulling the strings behind The Company in Europe. Not to mention the fact that the Ancient Shadowkind Leviathan are determined to have Omen find Ruby for them and bring her in to be put to death.
As with the first three books, this one was told in multiple points a view and narrated by Aiden Snow and Vanessa Moyen. Both narrators have pleasant voices and did a great job. Though I liked the continuing storyline about Sorsha trying to harness her power and not let it get out of control. This book seemed to be just more of the same. I tend to think a trilogy is better than four books when they are about the same main characters.
Though I did like the way this book had the characters resolve some of the things from their pasts that had been weighing on each of them, like Thorn’s guilt over the war when so many of his people were killed, Ruse’s past relationship, Snap’s devourer power, and Omen’s past that kept him chained to the Ancients. So this book was still very worth it.

Just wanted it to end
It was good writing but it just went on and on. Very repetitive. I didn't realize it was a YA. it was Very immature and juvenile at parts. Very illogical events/situations and reactions, meaning i thought "No one would be that stupid" and " how do they Not realize the obvious?" more than one should have. Not the worst books I've ever read, but I won't be reading again.

Immediate regret because book 2 is annoying and I cannot finish.

I hate when writers fake out deaths, it's war, people die, let them stay dead-dead. The bonus epilogue wasn't that great honestly, it weakened the original ending instead of adding more. There's another series set in this world but I won't bother, it's too easy to see the twists.
All that being said, Snap really was the best.

After some thought, I decided to give this series another chance and ended up purchasing the entire collection. While book one didn't quite capture my attention, the rest of the books drew me in and made the series much more enjoyable. Now that I have all of them in one place, it's the perfect time for anyone who hasn't experienced it yet to dive right in. Plus, there are some great extras included at the end. It's impossible not to fall in love with Sorsha and her monsters - they are all truly incredible characters. I personally read and listened to this series, and both narrators did an amazing job.

Drama!
I started for the smut and stayed for the drama! Ok Snap is just about the cutest and I absolutely loved that the FMC took in a dragon and named Pickle, I think I’m loving dragon cuties because of that little cutie pie.
The story was good, sexy yes but the story kept with so many twists and they all had to go through some trials. Loved!!

What a great world. well, not great. People and shadowkind are killing each other and stuff. but the way the series is written, I fell right into the world and its characters

I loved this.
I listened to first book separately but this duet narration is so good!
The FMC is bad ass, she is shadow monster supporter and gets involved in crazy antics to free shadow monsters from hunters trying to hurt and test them. The guys she sets free in the first book are looking for their boss and she embarks on an adventure to find him and then goes on lots of adventures with them all.
She also falls in love with them all.
I thought it was a great book series and would recommend.
Did I mention how great the narration is. 🤩

I absolutely love this. It's the entire series all together. If you have been waiting to read or listen to this, now is the perfect time to do so. Plus you get some bonus stuff at the end. You can't help but fall in love with Sorsha and her monsters, there is just something so amazing about them all.

This box set comprises four action packed stories with lots of twists and turns to keep the readers’ interest from start to finish. Each subsequent book builds on the one before to create an amazing series with well-developed characters and a fantastic ending. Don’t miss this series.

With my experience in reading reverse harem and good smut books I'll say this was a waste of my time. Ok so honestly...too many unnecessary details. Too Self absorbed FMC. I tried to hang in there very hard but was disappointed. Not equal attention to characters. More like immature writing.

A great value boxset containing four books that feature a sassy pyromaniac thief, four sexy-as-sin monsters, and a paranormal conspiracy of epic proportions. Get ready for the ride of your life. I'll put my review of each of the four books below:
#1 Shadow Thief - 5*
Saorsa is a sassy thief who does what she can to release supernatural monsters from the cages they are placed in within collectors' homes. She then lets rip and allows her pyromaniac tendencies free and leaves the whole place burning. On what was just an ordinary job she let three free from their cages, stole some trinkets to pay bills, and did her usual exit. What she didn't count on is that the three very manly monsters would follow her home. I absolutely loved this new series which was all the required features - a sassy woman, some hot supernatural beings and a quest that united them. It was easy to read and addictive as I became more and more involved in the story. Lots of danger and drama in the skirmishes with the hunters kept me glued to my Kindle Fire as I couldn't put it down. Easy to understand and feel the thoughts and emotions of the various characters. Does contain sexual content and is a reverse harem style story.

Saorsa has teamed up with monsters (who are now her lovers) because an organisation called the Company of Light were already on her list to be destroyed have now scaled up that list after they may have damaged one of her demon sweethearts beyond repair - so they are definitely overdue some flame action. However, she needs to be careful as the inner fire she only recently discovered is intent on burning her up at the same time as burning the baddies - somehow she needs to learn some control of this skill before she destroys herself and everything/everyone she loves. So she determines to understand where both it and herself came from - however, will those answers end up being even more dangerous than not knowing in the first place? Enemies are multiplying by the minute and for all Saorsa knows the worst of them could be standing right next to her.
OMG - so much happened in this instalment of the series. It was great to find out a bit more about where Saorsa came from and what her new power was like although I fear that is going to open a whole new set of problems for her. The drama was definitely ratcheting up as the story unfolded further and it definitely ended on a series of cliffhangers that just made me want to scream as I finished the last page of this book in the series. Well written and very easy to feel and empathise with the thoughts and emotions felt by the characters. I definitely enjoyed some of the dramatic moments in this story. Contains some sexual content.

This is an action-packed final instalment in the Flirting with Monsters series which will not disappoint whether you want to see more of Saorsa with the monsters, the Company of Light, the psycho monster and even the other characters as everything will work its way into an explosive conclusion. I loved the way everything came together and the final conclusion which was definitely not quite how I had anticipated it finishing. Well written and easy to read, feel and understand, I was completely hooked on the story and was unable to put my copy down as I read through it. My only disappointment was that the series is complete and there are no further adventures for these characters in the future.

Since I read this whole series as a single entity, I'll review it similarly. I thought that this series started out well. The writing is easy to read, and the plot whizzed alone. I enjoyed the sass and the easy devotion of the romantic partners. However, as time went on, some cliches crept in, characters started getting introduced and then dropped without explanation, and some sections started to drag. Honestly, I think the whole thing jumped the shark by an entire book.
I enjoyed book one, liked book two well enough, started to lose interest in book three, and only bothered to read book four in order to finish the series. None of it is bad. I just think Chase should have wrapped it up sooner than she did. (Plus, the epilogue was pat and predictable.)

Muy plano y demasiado largo para lo poco que cuenta. Para la cantidad de tiempo que pasamos en la mente de los personajes habría estado bien que hubieran tenido personalidades más complejas. Las escenas románticas y las subidas de tono eran aburridas y acababan tan abruptamente como empezaban. Muy aclimático.

Structure of the books is good, I always like to read other character's point of view. Very easy reading, reads like a TV show.
Needed better character progression. Would have been nice to have more about Luna, Sorcha's parents and family background etc and less threesome-foursome-fivesomes. Couldn't even get through the bonus epilogue.

this entire series was just alright. i don’t know if it was the writing or the plot that just didn’t really hook me. i felt very unattached to the characters.

Barely made it to 60%
There's no heart. There's no romance. There's barely a meandering plot held together with bubble gum and bread wrapper ties. The relationships make no sense. There's no substance for the use of the L word. S*x isn't love. And 1 of those relationships feels disturbingly predatory with ith how innocent he is. One relationship is stress relief for her. Which he used to hate but now it's ok because it's her? Makes no sense. Second relationship is the predatory one. He's basically a sunny child in his actions no matter how old he is. Third relationship came out of nowhere. He's a stoic silent type who suddenly is bam there and ready for a threesome? Eh? Fourth is more of a frienda with benefits/grudge bang? I don't know what to call it but it isn't romance. Team members keep going AWOL for heavily torturously contrived reasons. No one wants to save themselves. The bad guys are like the Nazis that everyone stood back and let do what they did. Only, they actually know these bad guys are actively trying to kill them and are still apathetic. The human groups supposed to be helping don't actually do anything. What are they raising funds for? Popcorn flavors? (

Would have rated this collection higher if I could get past the utter irritation that the female characters seemed to bring with them.
It read so much like “I’m not like other females”, I swear I wanted to vomit. The mangled lyrics were just the worst, the constant feeling of “breaking the fourth wall” when try to make the character speak directly to the reader, and the fact that Sorsha was so damn snarky. The snarking wasn’t cute, clever, or even a good fit to the seriousness of the situation. Vivi could have fallen off the pages of the book for all she added.
I still like the overall story in spite of the horrible female characters.

The fourth book was way too long for nothing, I skipped a lot of chapters to know the end, and still understood most of it.
The main character was a bit too cliche for me (too quick on her emotions, talking and provoking enemies not when supposed to because "she couldn't help it"…), and the polyamorous relationship was kinda cringe and unfair. How come she is fucking jealous of her partners' previous relationships form centuries ago, when she did not even talk about boundaries and if a polyamorous relations was ok for all her 4 lovers? I know it is supposed to be a "harem" but still…

Not as spicy as anticipated with 4 delicious and very different men in this RH. The conflict dragged on through the 4th book with fairly boring bedroom scenes.
I liked the opposite perspective bonus chapters added at the end of each book & the added Epilogue renewed my interest for the follow up series!
Really appreciated the lack of traditional cursing and the 80s references (even if I spent way too much time on a few of the mangled lyrics trying to place the songs).
Very few grammatical or plot errors. Great read, simply needed more steamy scenes vs anticipated scenes.

While the story and world are good in this book the main character is such a door mat. Literally one of her lovers punches her in the head, knocking her out. Then kidnaps her and chains her in room for days debating if he should turn her in to her death. He has a change of heart after another one of her lovers shows up. And then she just forgives him because she feels he’s having a hard time?!?
Also the spice in this book is very basic and not at all graphic. 🌶️ one chile only for spice.

Something I wished: more spice! There were moments it would have fitted to go down that road.
One thing I don't understand is, why cut off a scene just to write a backflash shortly after? Once or twice would have been fine especially if you don't want to expose something too soon but that weren't the case here so it doesn't make sense.

Not bad
I loved the series in the beginning, but this is a DNF for me. I had about 200 pages left and I just couldn't finish it. I liked the characters and the story overall but it lost my interest. For someone who normally finishes a book in a day or two, I've been on this for a month now and decided I have had enough, I got too bored with it.

Sex should not replace good writing
This story has very little depth and character development. The writing is shallow with poor progression and insight into the characters within the story. To make up for it the author laces the story with sex scenes.
My suggestion is to stay with writing short sex stories and stay away from writing books.

Flirting with Monsters
I read each of these books as an advanced reader as they were released. My reviews were voluntary.
Shadow Thief - 5 stars
I'm going to love this new series. Sorsha is a great character. She is determined to free all the supernatural creatures she can from the rich collectors who buy them on the black market. One particular night she does her usual break-in and frees various shadow monsters by giving them shadows to escape through and then cutting them an escape route in their cages. She is astonished to find a separate room with three huge cages in it that contain?? Unfortunately, she sets off an alarm and after hastily freeing - whatever they are - she torches the place and manages to make her own escape. Same ole, same ole. Until she wakes up the next morning to find herself the proud, er, owner of three huge shadowmen. Apparently she saved them and now they were determined to repay her, whether she wanted them to or not.
So starts Sorsha's adventures with Thorn, Snap, and Ruse. Thorn is brawn, Snap has the look of a sun god, and Ruse is, well, Ruse is an incubus. A very tasty looking incubus and he needs, er. to replenish his energy. Sorsha finally gives in, I mean a girl needs some lovin' every now and then and who better than an incubus? It seems the guys have sort of misplaced their boss, Omen. Well, actually he was captured before they were, and not by a collector. Sorsha agrees to use her contacts to help them find him. Read what happens for yourself. Enjoy.

Omen is not at all convinced that she can be trusted to stick with the so-called "monsters" that many humans shun. Not that all humans even know of their existence. He also doesn't believe that her puny human body equips her to fight with them. He seems to love devising little "tests" to try to make her admit that she can't hang. Yeah, not gonna happen. It appears that Sorsha may have talents even she is unaware of. As things start to heat up in the conflict of human vs shadowkind, Sorsha does a little heating up of her own. When her human allies start to turn against her, she becomes even more determined to prove her worth. Then one of "her" shadowkind disappears, now she is really mad...

She feels responsible for his capture, believing she didn't do enough to reassure him that his devourer form didn't change the way she feels about him. The crew heads to Chicago first and then to Austin where they will make some discoveries about Sorsha's past. Sorsha's power over fire continues to grow and she worries that sometimes it controls her instead of her controlling it. Some new allies will join the group during their journey.
Things are really going to change at the end of the book. An unexpected foe will surface and a trusted member of the group will change his opinion of Sorsha. Can you say "cliffhanger"? Bah.
Dark Champion – 5 stars
Sorsha is soooooo not happy to discover herself in a dark, damp place chained to a lumpy bed with her hellhound, shadowkind lover staring at her. She does finally get to find out about Omen's servitude to the shadowkind's Highest. He can finally be free of them if he just takes her to them and drops her off to her death. When Thorn shows up and is willing to fight his boss to save her, she can't bear to see either of them hurt and tells Omen she will go willingly to the Highest. He decides that maybe if they can defeat his old pal Tempest that maybe the Highest will leave her alone. No pressure.
Sorsha and her allies will have to use all their tricks to try to stop the Sphinx's plans to kill off both humans and shadowkind. Sorsha fights to keep her fire under control so she doesn't inadvertently make the dire prediction made about her come true but if it means keeping her guys safe, she is not not afraid to burn the world down.

Things are really going to change at the end of the book. An unexpected foe will surface and a trusted member of the group will change his opinion of Sorsha. Can you say "cliffhanger"? Bah.
Dark Champion – 5 stars
Sorsha is soooooo not happy to discover herself in a dark, damp place chained to a lumpy bed with her hellhound, shadowkind lover staring at her. She does finally get to find out about Omen's servitude to the shadowkind's Highest. He can finally be free of them if he just takes her to them and drops her off to her death. When Thorn shows up and is willing to fight his boss to save her, she can't bear to see either of them hurt and tells Omen she will go willingly to the Highest. He decides that maybe if they can defeat his old pal Tempest that maybe the Highest will leave her alone. No pressure.
Sorsha and her allies will have to use all their tricks to try to stop the Sphinx's plans to kill off both humans and shadowkind. Sorsha fights to keep her fire under control so she doesn't inadvertently make the dire prediction made about her come true but if it means keeping her guys safe, she is not not afraid to burn the world down.
