Moon Lake Mysteries #1

Moon Lake Sleuths: Treasure Hunt

Rate this book
A hot cop, a murderer, and a jealous ghost are NOT the recipe for a single woman craving a peaceful life.

I thought I was happy. The joke was on me. I owned a successful dance studio in Chicago and came home to a handsome, charming, successful man. Life was good until the day I discovered he’d cleaned out my bank accounts and leveraged my assets. Grieving and faced with financial ruin and shame, I packed my things and moved back to Moon Lake, Indiana, determined to following three simple rules. No men. No heartache. No drama.

But then I walked into my mother's bookstore and found mom wrapped in the arms of him. The sleazeball, slimy, grab-hands professor who assaulted me in college.

So much for no drama. Worse yet, my great-great-great-grandmother informed me my father's ghosts wants the professor dead. And she wants me to stop Dad. She's on the other side, but I'm supposed to intercede. How?

But wait. There's more. A hot DNR officer is in town sniffing around. And then a body drops. And you guessed it. We've got a murder to catch.

Will I break my "No Men" rule? Can we catch the killer?

Welcome to Moon Lake, where strong-willed women pool their powers to protect the village they love. Here ghosts and witches meddle, animals speak, and psychic magic and mayhem create suspense and mystery. If you love ghost mysteries mixed with romance, download this Midlife Paranormal Cozy Mystery set in rural Moon Lake, Indiana.

Lucia Kuhl is the author of thirty midlife paranormal cozy mysteries. She believes every story needs at least one ghost, maybe a witch, or possibly an angel. A pet is always good. Talking forest animals are even better. Oh, and a hint of romance while headstrong, opinionated characters mingle.

A few of her women sleuths carry guns. Some only need magic. And her characters never miss a chance to dance. Lucia enjoys exploring tough subjects and lighting them in humorous ways to lessen the sting while showcasing their root issues. Her books contain no sex, strong violence, or profanity.

No. Just no. This book was deadly dull. The bit where the fmc’s mother was dating the man who attempted to rape her daughter in college and continued to date him after she found out about the assault? Gross. The mystery was slow moving to the point of stagnation.

This was a quick, easy read and kept me wanting to read more. The story follows a bit of a treasure hunt turned murder mystery. Nothing was overly surprising in the book but it was still quite enjoyable to watch it unfold.

There were a few things I had issue with but it didn't detract from the overall story. The timeline was a bit hard to follow at times. It would seemingly jump around in the middle of a paragraph and occasionally I had to backtrack to figure out when something happened. I also understand this is the first in the series, but there are many things that are mentioned with no context so we are just left to wonder for an entire book. I want to know more about the past relationship and what broke it apart. She mentions may times the one DNR officer possibly being linked to her ex but we don't even know anything about the ex. So it being mentioned on multiple occasions was slightly annoying.

Overall, there were a lot of interesting aspects introduced in the first book and I really want to see where they all go. I am hopefully that we will get more backstory for our main characters and learn more about all the attractive men milling about in Moon Lake.

Happy Reading!

Cute Mystery

Dance artist and teacher, Sydney, is returned home to start over, opening her own dance studio, but first she had to overcome a murder, solve a secret treasure mystery, over come past hurts and past terrors. The writing and plotting are easy to follow, making this a very quick fast read. I liked that Sydney is a strong, independent woman and stands up for herself. I did feel like a had walked into book 2. Without explanation, we’re carrying on conversations with ghosts. Events happen way too fast, with the ghosts helping out. All in all, a fun, non taxing simple read.

Really needs an editor

This series has potential but the numerous punctuation and grammatical errors riddled throughout has put me off reading any other books by this author. Characters are constantly saying things that should have an exclamation point but have a question mark, there are quotation marks missing on nearly every page, and it’s hard sometimes to follow who is saying what.

Great

Loved this paranormal mystery series. The plot line is interesting and has lots of twists and turns. The characters are well written with just enough quirkiness to make you enjoy them. The mysteries as there are more then one are intriguing and advance the storyline in ways that bode well for an on going series.

Loved this book!

Enjoyed the story, characters, and the mystery. Sydney returned to her home town, Moon Lake, from Chicago. She was looking for, among other things, no drama. Not exactly what she found! Follow along to see how she & her companions investigate the happenings in the town. You'll be glad you did!!!

A bit confusing

This had me a bit confused, like when I started the book I was missing the actual starting of it. I am missing content. I jumped right in the middle, but it was actually the beginning. Hunh?

I don't know, maybe it's just me. Ya, probably. I'm sure the next book will be better now that I know the characters a bit.

Next is book 2 Moon Lake Witch.

danger follows

This is a cute story with a good mystery. I couldn’t guess that each person had something to do with it. The one thing was the back story on Sydney. What was she running from? Why was she moving back to the small town she moved away from? The characters were well written emotionally and physically.

Great book!

I got a little confused with the third person point of view. Didn't know which 'she' you were talking about, names weren't used often enough for me. But that's me. Loved the story regardless!

A wonderful who did what

Sydney comes home to find a fugitive on the loose in the area and her mother is dating her ex professor. A buried treasure brings strangers to town and trouble. I liked the way the story unfolded and I am looking forward to more.

The interactions and conversations were stilted enough to begin with, but the mom’s (non)reaction to finding about her boyfriend’s attempt to sexually assault her daughter in the past pushed it to the limit.

This was a really good book!

Well written, with a great cast of characters, both good and bad. An interesting location, and ghosts.
I really enjoyed this book, and have high hopes for the other boom.

This was just okay for me. All the paranormal cozy elements were there, but I wasn’t really drawn into it like I hoped. This will just be a blip in my mind.

2024 bk 174. If I had read this series first before the Farm series I might have enjoyed it more. It was like I came back to review a test after taking the test. Not bad, but I felt that the missing pieces were already stored in my head. That said, I did enjoy getting to know the main character as a main character and not in a supporting role.

This is the first book in another paranormal cozy series. I did enjoy this although I really had a hard time understanding how a mom could accept a creep like Edmund after what he did. I loved Aunt Lily and Sydney the main character in the books. I look forward to reading the next book.
