BLOATING, HOT FLASHES, WEIGHT GAIN. THESE ARE RITES OF PASSAGE. NOBODY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT MAGIC, SECRETS, WITCHES, AND DEAD BODIES.
Welcome to Abracadabra, IN, where reality is fake, and magic is real!
I thought I was living the dream. Top tier Feng Shui Consultant to America's Rich and Famous, I harmoniously balanced the Chi of the most luxurious homes in the world while living a lifestyle of wealth and privilege.
Until one afternoon when I laughed as my boss/boyfriend bullied a stranger. Realization smacked me hard. I'd lost me. I, Faith Bracken, country girl at heart, had become one of them. Reeling, I trooped on to my next appointment and stumbled into a dead body—the next day another, and on and on.
Fearing I might be next and believing my company was somehow responsible, I planned to disappear after one last consultation at the home of an old friend. You can guess the rest.
But wait, I didn't tell you everything. FBI Special Agent Harvey Wallbanger is on my heels. I know he thinks I'm guilty. I'm not. Luckily, he doesn't know my magic secret, and frankly, I don't understand it.
Now, there's only one thing I can do. Go home to Abracadabra, Indiana, and hope the family I haven't spoken to in years will help me. We are all stubborn and opinionated people who don't back down. My father's a feared Vegas Mob boss, while my brother's a detective. Oh, and my brother's captain is a hot cop who tempts my troubled heart. And Mom, she's a witch.
Will my family help me? Can we heal our differences? Will I embrace my magical secret, or will it jail me? And can we catch the killer so I can start a flower farm?
If you love your cozies potted with zany characters, filled with action and suspense, planted with clean romance, and sprinkled with ghosts, witches, and supernatural spirits, you'll love this first book in The Flower Farm Magical Mystery Series. It's a Paranormal Women's Midlife Mystery set on a garden center in a rural ghost town. I almost forgot. There might be a dog and perhaps a rabbit or two to further the plot.
Lucia Kuhl is the author of thirty midlife paranormal cozy mysteries. She believes every story needs at least one ghost, maybe a witch, or possibly an angel. A pet is always good. Talking forest animals are even better. Oh, and a hint of romance while headstrong, opinionated characters mingle.
A few of her women sleuths carry guns. Some only need magic. And her characters never miss a chance to dance. Lucia enjoys exploring tough subjects and lighting them in humorous ways to lessen the sting while showcasing their root issues. Her books contain no sex, strong violence, or profanity.

I felt like I got dropped into this story without Faith's background. I had no idea what serial killer she kept referring to throughout most of the book. That being said, the current mystery and the introduction to Faith's father, mother and brother helped to keep the focus on the current murder. It was an engaging and fun read; and I enjoyed the paranormal elements throughout the story.
The GoodReads summary must be written by someone else because in no world were these characters "zany" or fun (minus one mastermind hacker the MFC somehow knew?) and half of the selling points were teasers briefly mentioned at best.
And what is this about hot flashes and peri-menopause? I thought we were getting a grown, mature woman for the MFC. She reads like a 24yo who seems the type to bedazzle paisley flowers on her jean's back pockets and drink wine out of a personalized monogrammed sippy cup. She makes $10k per consultation and roughly $800k/month before taxes. Sick life, bro. Must be nice to be a prime murder suspect and still move freely among the country with zero logistical worries while she cries about anxiety into her fists full of cash as she snuggles into her cashmere throw blanket in the house she fully owns. GTFO.
I feel betrayed as a reader. There was no flower farm in this book - just her saying "I want to start a flower farm." Her mom being a witch literally never came up in the book except maybe on the last page? She cries about being abandoned by her family when she was obviously partly to blame and could have just as easily picked up a phone. (Again, I thought we were dealing with a grownass woman.) All those murders she happened to find the body for? WE NEVER READ THOSE. Am I missing a whole book before this?! And what is this about someone bullying someone else and that being her wakeup call to leave the business? Yeah, that never happened in the book. The whole rabbits tease was literally her dog chasing a rabbit to some abandoned magic factory that her family also owns? Sorry, what? I don't even know anymore and stopped trying to follow this trust fund family's business tree. This isn't cozy, it's delusional; I feel gaslit in so many ways.
This book reads like a rough draft with terrible punctuation and half-baked ideas. I want a time refund for this novella.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book. Protagonists in a higher age bracket are often not quite as fun to read as the authors tend to treat them like fussy old women. This story, however, has some fun/oddball characters, developing family relationship dynamics and some odd mysteries that seem to keep befalling out MC. Really enjoyed this book and have already started to binge the rest of the books in the series.
2024 bk 171. An enjoyable mystery/paranormal set in northern Indiana (the setting is what interested me in the book). When our heroine finds herself in the center of multiple deaths, she flees her work, her apartments, her life. It had always been a dream to start a flower farm and now, by returning home, she might be able to get away from the horror her life had become. But no - on her final job as Feng Shu consultant, she again discovers a body. The only difference is that this time she has her brother AND the chief of police AND her father on her side, oh, and the little voice in her head is actually coming from outside her body. Well done. I am purchasing book 2 in the series.
Are you changing the name of the books just when I discovered them? That said, I really like them and want to continue reading them, so I hope I don’t lose track. I thought th.e ones I have read were funny and believable. Nothing that kept me up at night from the horror. Maybe up at night because I wanted to read them, but that’s okay in this time of isolation and ennui. Outstanding book and outstanding believable characters.
Definitely needs another edit though by someone who understands sentences and tuning and implied subjects and verbs. But I still kept reading — that good.
Faith is running. Someone is dropping bodies and she has to disappear. She makes one last stop for her job and finds another body. This one she knows. Since its so close to home, she calls her brother for help and gets a hot cop capt in exchange. Weird voices start dropping hints. And as the pieces fall into place, Faith and those around her could be in danger.
A great start to a series with a bunch of interesting characters.
This was a FUN read! As bodies are dropping around her at an alarming rate, Faith decides to go back to her hometown. But once there, things do not get better ... in fact, there's another body and she's the prime suspect! As the mystery unravels, we learn more about Faith and her dysfunctional family. I'm intrigued enough to continue the series.
It was ok, not the best nor the worst I've read. The constant punctuation errors were very annoying and distracted from the story. I didn't feel any connection to the characters, so even with Kindle Unlimited I'm not going to continue the series.
Enjoyable with tons of twists and turns. One moment you think you have some things figured out only to be thrown another curve. But I liked it. It kept you involved and trying to figure out what was going to happen next. A little romance didn't hurt either. Look forward to the next book. Enjoy!
Okay I loved this book except for the ending. I feel like the murderer was just dropped on us with no warning. It seemed like this whole wonderful mystery and and then this kind of out of the blue ending. I do love the character and it was nice meeting Faith's family and her potential love interest. A really good series which I will continue.
Now this is Interesting. An excellent murder mystery, a romantic interest, quirky characters, and an open ending. Not exactly a cliffhanger, but still a lot of unanswered questions.
A lot. Needs a re-edit but has good bones and is well written. I have already downloaded the next three books and look forward to being well engrossed.
This was an interesting and intriguing world building story. Faith comes home to Abracadabra, IN and reunites with her family while trying to solve a murder, dodge bullets and save the day.
