Warrior Mates of Zivon #4

Defended by the Alien Gladiator

Rate this book
He’s the most fearsome gladiator on this alien planet. And I’m meant to be his prize.

I shouldn’t even be here. Somehow, I've gone from living an ordinary life back on Earth to being offered up as a reward to the victor of an alien death match on a planet called Teneca.

And when the massive warrior with two-toned eyes strides out into the arena, cold fear fills me. Sure, he might be more gorgeous than any man I’ve ever seen, but he’s also a brutal fighter, and there’s a coldness to his expression that makes me think he stopped feeling emotions a long time ago.

I’m terrified of what he’ll do to me if he wins me... until the strangest thing happens.

He tries to rescue me instead.

But when our escape attempt fails, can this savage alien gladiator truly keep me safe? Can he protect me from our captors?

And more importantly, can he protect me from himself?

Defended by the Alien Gladiator is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring a gruff, dangerous hero and the sweet human woman who tempts the beast in him.

If you like sexy aliens, sweeping adventure, and steamy romance, you’ll love this series. No cheating, no cliffhanger, and a happily ever after guaranteed!

Note: each book in the series can be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, it’s recommended that the series be read in order.

Good story and series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚🩵
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🙂🙁😋😘
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Scarlett - while she lived on earth, she was a vegetarian who worked at an animal shelter. Since being abducted by aliens and sold as a slave, she was brought to a city filled with sex and violence and is now owned by an alien named Basta. Now she is the one that is kept in a cage. She is in just a slip and her cage is surrounded by other cages filled with large men. She is in a gladiator arena and doesn’t know what is in store for her.

The Hero: Akos - he once had a happy life, until the Kruul attacked his home planet. For the past five years he has been a slave in the gladiator arena. He is tall and strong, one of Basta’s best fighters who is feared by many, including the guards. His life consists of sleeping and fighting. When he sleeps, he often dreams of being at war with the Kruul and of all the people he lost. He was captured by accident after he was separated from his people and had to land on an unknown planet where he was drugged and chained. Basta hates Akos, but the crowds love him, and he makes a lot of money for Basta.

The Story: Scarlett is taken from her cage, given a bath, shaved from the neck down and dressed in a gauzy gown and she fears for what is in store for her. Especially after she hears she is to be a prize for the winning gladiator in the fights that day. Basta brings her to the arena and announces that she will be the prize for the winner of the next fight. He also announces that the fight will be to the death. When Akos wins the battle, he refuses to kill his opponent and when Basta drags Scarlett to the arena floor and announces the opponent, named Hive has won since Akos didn’t follow the rules.

I always hate it when the main characters are slaves or imprisoned by others and are hurt, tortured, or made to do things they don’t want to do. So, I was hoping from when I found out that Scarlett and Akos can’t escape captivity, that Akos’s brother Nyx and some other Zivonians would find him and break them out. In the previous book, Nyx was out in the galaxy looking for Akos, so it wasn’t completely out of nowhere. I won’t tell you what happened but it was a pretty good story. There was more than a few steamy scenes and I liked the characters quite a bit.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and narrated in dual narration by C.J. Grey and Stefanie Kay. Both of these are great narrators. C.J. Grey has a deep, gravelly voice which works well for alien romance. Stefanie Kay has a clear, feminine voice and sounds the right age for the heroine. They do a good job and I am happy to listen to more books by these narrators.

3.25 ⭐

Arok, the missing eldest brother, has been forced into slavery and made to preform in gladiator matches for the past 5 years. In that time he has shut down emotionally and given up hope of escaping his fate.

Scarlett has been abducted, bought, and now made a prize in a gladiator death match. (Yikes) She is resourceful and still hopeful of finding a way out of this.

✅ Gladiator/Prize
✅ Forced proximity
✅ Escaping imprisonment

This one had some nice angst 🤌🏻

I always enjoy the gladiator/prize trope and this one had an interesting twist. Arok recognizes Scarlett way earlier than any of the other Zivonian we've met so far and their captor abuses this knowledge and uses it against them. So lots of tension and denial happening here.

Overall, at this halfway point, the series is good but it's not great. I love the general premise but the execution is just okay. They are all relatively short but the pacing is inconsistent. When the story is that short, every moment is crucial and sometimes I feel like we lose focus and have unnecessary moments. Still enjoying it and might come back to it (but Rok, Nyx, and Arok were who i was most interested in)

Scarlett finds herself in Teneca as a new slave, but as a prize to the champion of the last fight to the death that Basta wanted. The top gladiators are Akos and Hyves. And, Hyves doesn't care anymore and takes pleasure in hurting his opponent and hurting the women prizes he was given. But in this fight Akos is an honorable Zivonian warrior and did not believe in killing a being just because. That there was no justifications or if there was a war. So, in defiance Akos spares his life and the crowd adores Akos and Basta has no choice to keep him. But, to punish him Scarlett who was suppose to go to the rightful winner he gives he to the brute Hyve. But, Akos decides that he will help her and hears her screams and takes her back. And they saw the opportunity to escape but they are caught. As they are caught and brought back to his cell Basta notice the fated mate marking on his chest. Now Basta as a new plan. Will they succumb to his plan once the mating bond is starting to form between them. This book frustrated me so much. but, I see what Akos was so hesitant to form any bond with Scarlett. He lost everything when the Kruul's came and destroyed their home planet and killed most of his people. OMG, when Akos and Scarlett found an escape thank the lord for Scarlett's quick thinking and was able to find their way. But, with Akos bravery they took that leap to freedom. And how the brothers, Nyx, Rok and Akos were able to see one another again. I read this book so fast because I wanted to see what would happened with Akos and Scarlett. And he Akos defends her honorable. so good. I highly recommend!

Defended by the Alien Gladiator: Warrior Mates of Zivon by Presley Hall is the fourth story in this series. However, it is a stand-alone book as they all can be read and enjoyed in any order. The plot is excellent and the characters are easily loved. Akos has been imprisoned for five years after his planet was attacked and many of the Zivonians killed. In trying to rescue his people, he is separated from his brothers and does not know whether they lived or died. Akos is subsequently captured and sold as a slave to an evil man by the name of Basta who uses him in arena fighting to make money. Akos has tried to escape Basta’s clutches, but there are too many guards to overcome, and as a result, he merely goes through the process of fighting every day. His is a passive-aggressive existence. He does what he has to do in order to survive, but he does not give Basta what Basta wants at any time. His hatred of Basta and everything that he stands for is reciprocated ten-fold by Basta. The owner hates that the people on Teneca love Akos; he hates that he cannot get Akos to do what he wants; he hates that Akos is an honorable person and will not kill when ordered. Enter Scarlett, another person enslaved and bought by Basta. Basta thinks giving her to the winner of a fight between Akos and the cruel Hyve might turn Akos into the person he wants him to be. But, again, Akos defies Basta; however, Akos does claim Scarlett as his, and Basta sees this as a chance to get Zivonian babies from the two—babies that he can take away and raise as slave fighters. That’s a big no from Akos. Even though the two are drawn together, they try to resist each other for this very reason. The story is awesome, the characters are likeable, and readers will enjoy the twists, turns, and ending of this book.

A good character driven romance

This is my favorite book of the series so far. Our main couple are not racing through the galaxy trying to chase, or elude, some bad guys. Their story is simple but has lots of emotions involved. In fact, our story takes place primarily in a little cell on a planet not known for its kindness. I started the book thinking I was going to have to push myself to finish this one, but boy was I wrong.

There’s so much to this story, my emotions were all over the place. There were some truly heart wrenching moments and then some sweet, happy ones too. All between the walls of a small cell. Akos has been a slave here for the last five years. He’s given up all hope. Hope of anything really, he’s just “waiting out the clock” until he dies. Until he sees the Terran slave girl, Scarlett, that is to be given as a prize to the winner of the next gladiatorial fight.

As I said previously, this is my favorite book in the series. I love a story that has my stomach in knots and my heart feeling squishy, broken and in love all at the same time. There are some action scenes scattered throughout the book, both gladiatorial contests and escape attempts, but the bulk of the book is the blossoming relationship between two people. The storyline was well done to keep me interested. And the ending was so satisfying, I loved every moment.

The epilogue sets up the next book in the series, and I’m definitely going to be reading it. I highly recommend this book, and the series if you’re a fan of sci-fi romance books. The character of Rok was introduced in book #6 of the Fated Mates of the Kalixian Warriors series, Consumed. If you haven’t read that series, you should give it a try. It’s also very good.

Defended by the Alien Gladiator, Book 4 of the Zivonian Warriors, by author Presley Hall is set on the planet of Teneca. This is an outlaw planet where gladiator fights, prostitution, slavery and essentially “anything goes”.

The Gladiator warrior named Akos, the older brother of Rok and Nyk (Books 1 and 3), has been on this planet as a captive gladiator since the Zivon’s home world was destroyed.

The love interest is a human slave with pink dyed hair named Scarlett. She was abducted from Earth by slavers and sold to the highest bidder.

Scarlett is purchased by Basta, the vicious three eyed alien who owns the gladiator stadium. Akos is scheduled to fight the bloodthirsty Gladiator named Hyve who is also Akos' nemesis. Hyve revels in fights and pushes the limits of pain and cruelty when he fights.

Normally the matches are only till the opponent cannot stand - so they can fight again on a different day. But this time, Scarlett is the Prize in an "alien death match" between Hyve and Akos.

In a roundabout way, with a few twists to be sure, Akos ends up in a cell with Scarlett. The slave owner Basta is forcing them together.

Akos and Scarlett have alot to understand about each other. They are both slaves; one has lost all hope and the other holds on to hope to live.

The story of how this Zivon warrior Akos and his Terran Scarlett come to trust and love one another had me reading the book in one sitting!

Will they escape their captivity? What about Akos reuniting with his two brothers?

Plot twists, a love match, guaranteed HEA and the quest for freedom makes this a Must Read!

We finally get to Akos. He is the third brother in this series, and the oldest. He was captured and has been serving as a gladiator ever since. The heroine is Scarlett and has been abducted from earth and bought as a prize in the slavemaster’s evil manipulative games.

What I like about this series is the suspense. All seems lost a couple of times. But of course it all works out in the end. And the heroine is surprisingly positive about their situation.

“Back on Earth, the people I worked with at the shelter always said I was a problem-solver, that I could find a solution to anything. So I maybe I can find a solution here too.”

She’s something of an opportunist. Good for her. So she will read the situation first before committing. Her first goal is getting free and getting home. That changes but not easily. It was easy for her to make friends on earth, and it shows in how she approaches her new challenges.

“Is that what fate is? A path that feels inevitable once you walk down it?”

The hero is a guy who is nearly without hope but not without honor. Gotta love that. I would also love to see this series end with a “where are they now”! But this is only book four of nine. So I’m good for now. There is a bonus epilogue through the author’s mailing list. Worth it as always.

Human Scarlett was abducted and finds herself the prize in a gladiator fight on Teneca which is won by gorgeous Zivonian and fellow slave Akos. She is terrified of him until he then unsuccessfully tries to rescue them both. Can he help them to escape again, can he keep her safe, and can they thwart their owner's plan to use them to breed warriors?

I enjoyed this story with shows how Scarlett and Akos met, their various trials, how they escaped and how they met up with his two brothers to have a chance at a future. It was easy to read and understand, plus it was good to see that with all of their problems they could find happiness as well as a future. Contains some mature content but mostly a well deserved HEA.

I nearly forgot to what series our gladiator belongs to when I remembered where I learned his name. Akos is one of the most honorable gladiator I have read. I couldn't fathom the misery, the pain and the sacrifices he endured especially when he met his mate. Talking about though luck, meeting your soulmate when you are both slaves.

I knew they would somehow be free, as to how, I don't know. I was expecting a grand rescue but their way is much better. It just proves that Akos will do everything and anything to protect his mate, and he did. After all the chaos that they have went through, the ending for our MCs is what they deserved, peace.

I really liked this 4th installment of the series. I thought Akos was such a great character and honestly his depression and apathy to doing anything to save himself made the story great. The slow burn and concern for each other's safety was sweet and made the romance warm and full-filling vs. some stories that are a bit faster paced. I also liked Scarlett since she was so tenuous about getting them free. Overall another great addition to the series and was exciting to see it go off the Oasis to somewhere new since that kept the story fresh. Besides the fact we would have all been wondering the whole time what about Akos. So glad he got is HEA.

The 4th book in the zivon series and I’m loving them they can be read as stand alone a but are better read as a series, we meet Scarlet a abducted woman sold as what, she is unsure; she finds herself in cells and realises she maybe a prize for the alien gladiators. Akos is a gladiator one of the best he fights with as much honour as he can considering he is a prisoner, a slave, he refuses the female prizes until one day he has the urge to save the Terran with the pink hair.
Best one yet drama hot male strong female and some major chemistry with a story cannot wait for book 5.

You are in for a treat. Everytime I think I know what Presley is going to give us....she completely changes the script. At page one you are drawn into Akos life, full of struggle and survival. I loved how Scarlett was brave, but very empathic at the same time. This series has been full of surprise, love, and hope. You can't stop reading once you start. The love story between these two is unique, heartfelt, and SO good. Do yourself a favor.....get this and curl up....you won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't!

definitely can read book as standalone

Author did a great job of writing the book as a standalone. Except for some added backstory of other they connect with at the end, you do not need to read others. But I recommend you do so because they are good.

The depressed hero meets the gentle and overwhelmed human woman and over time they connect. Loved the way they interacted and development of their relationship.
Looking forward to more about his species and their eventual finding permanent home planet.

Defended by the Alien Gladiator

This is the story of Akos and Scarlett. Akos is a Zivonian warrior . His planet was destroyed and several people escaped on a “mother”ship. Unfortunately, he was unable to do that and was captured later and sold as a slave. The Zivonians are all skilled fighters and his owner turns him into a gladiator. Scarlett, as the usual story goes, was abducted from earth to be sold as a slave. She was to be a “prize” for a winning gladiator. And the story goes on. There are sexual scenes that may offend some readers.

Absolutely loving the Zivon series. It has all the hallmarks of a Presley Hall book - great world building, excellent character development and good steamy bits that don't leave you scratching your head wondering how exactly that bit goes in there. The sci-fi parts are also well done, which I appreciate after having spent 3 decades watching Star Trek. I think it is a real talent for Presley to have made this book engaging and interesting given that most of it is set in a jail cell.

I love this series! Presley weaves together a harsh alien world, hedonistic and cruel…but within this world the unexpected love of a mate. Presley is a master of juxtapositions, both the cruelty of the arena and the love blossoming between Scarlett and Akos. This page turner is a solid five star read. This series has not gotten stale or predictable as some can. Presley makes sure you get your monies worth. Enjoy!❤️❤️

Fantastic! I absolutely loved this book! It's my favorite in the series so far! I've been dying for Ako's book and I couldn't be happier with it. My heart broke for him. I wanted him and Scarlett to free themselves- and, of course, I was dying for his reunion with his brother and other Zivonian warriors. I couldn't put this book down! I just finished reading it and already I want to read it all over again. Well written, well paced. Excellent book! Highly recommended! 5 stars.

Defended by the Alien Gladiator

Scarlette is a kidnapped Terran sold at the slave auction to Basta. Akos is a Zionism survivor captured and sold to Basta 5 years before. He is defiant, winning all his battles in the arena but refuses to show Basta emotion or respect. Scarlette just happens to be his fated mate. They escape their prison and are rescued by his brothers Nyx and Roc whom he thought were dead. Love this author's imagination. Great stories.

Brimming with tension

Wow, lots of anxious tension in this book. It kept me on the edge wondering if the horrible slave master would eventually break Scarlett and Akos 😳 But thank goodness Presley Hall writes HEAs so I know I’m guaranteed an eventual happy ending. However, the pathway to getting there is fraught with danger and suspense along with the burning tension of love and lust that exists between the fated mates.
This is one of my favourites!😳😳😳😳😳🌶🌶🌶 🥵😍😍😍😍😍

I honestly think Scarlett is one of the sweetest characters I've ever read. She has such a kind soul. Akos is a wonderful character too. Both characters have a wonderful depth. The story is so good with plenty of action. The world building is so well done I can see it in my mind. Presley Hall is an amazing writer who gives freely of her talent to her readers. I loved this book!

Slaves until freedom is found.

This is another stirring drama-filled book. The characters are easy to fall in love with and share their journey from oppression to freedom. Presley has a way of drawing you into the story as you cheer the characters on. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to the next installment

Brutal

I read to be entertained, amused, enjoy, escape into another world…. Defended by the Alien Gladiator is seventy percent about the brutality, hopelessness of slavery. I’m not understanding why many recent sci-fi romances contain graphic corporal punishment, but it is NOT entertaining.

Akos and Scarlett

Loved all the adventure of trying to survive, of Akos trying to hold on to his honor. Scarlett was brave also standing up to the guards to spare Akos. Love that the brothers are back together again. This read a little slower that the other books in the series. All in all still a good book.
