A masquerade, a chance meeting, and a kidnapping: Little did Miss Penelope Ashurst realize that breaking the rules would result in the adventure—and love—of a lifetime.
UNSEEN One night. That’s all Miss Penelope Ashurst wants away from the strict decorum of Regency society. Donning a mask and attending a forbidden masquerade, she meets the man of her dreams. Then, before she discovers his identity, she is kidnapped.
UNTASTED From their first encounter, his goddess in a golden mask stirs a deep and different longing within Ranulph, the Earl of Monfort. When she disappears, he vows he will find her no matter the cost.
UNSTOPPABLE Soon it’s a race against time, and the kidnappers are just the start. Penelope and Ranulf’s very lives are in jeopardy. Before the end, everything will be stripped away, and Penelope and Runulf will be more than just face to face. But this is true love, and nothing will stop it.
Alanna Lucas grew up in Southern California. From an early age, she took an interest in travel, incorporating those experiences into her writing. When she is not daydreaming of her next travel destination, Alanna can be found researching, spending time with family, or going for long walks.
All Penelope wanted was a little adventure but instead found love. Penelope Ashurst craves adventure before she must settle down and marry the old viscount her father has chosen. She attends a masked ball with her friend Judy and meets a handsome man who takes her breath away. She shares a kiss with the mysterious man, not realizing who he is. His name is Ranulph and agrees to meet him at a ball the next evening. While attending the ball, Penelope gets kidnapped by a horrid man named Trane. Penelope is frightened but keeps her wits about her. She holds out hope her father will rescue her but to her delight, it’s Ranulph who rescues her. On the run from Trane, she and Ranulph escape and attempt to make it back home safely. Penelope got adventure all right but more than that, she desires Ranulph. Will they make it home unscathed or will disaster strike, leaving Penelope heartbroken?
Face to Face is a sweeping romance filled with adventure, misdirection, deceit, and peril. I connected with Penelope right away. Her curiosity, her sense of adventure, her quick thinking, and her passion all combine to make her a heroine I adore. She often leaps before looking, especially when it comes to love, which makes for an enjoyable reading experience. Alanna Lucas has rebooted the whole A Waltz With Destiny series and it’s even better than the original. The beginning, middle, and end all encompass dancing, and the feel of waltzing permeates the storyline. In classic Alanna Lucas style, the writing is flawless, historically accurate, with tender, romantic interludes. The pacing is perfect, allowing the reader to be whisked away into the story. If you’re a historical romance reader, you’re going to love Face to Face. If historical romance is your reading jam, pick up Face to Face. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this novella and read it in one sitting! The heroine is feisty and memorable. The hero is sexy and has strong character. I enjoyed these two characters together from the beginning and could not wait for their HEA! I was not disappointed. I am not a big novella reader, but I will always make an exception for this author! :)
Sheltered and protected her father has a plan for her life and she has no say. Of course this is the basis for the story and the author takes this and is off to the races. This is a well written story of growing up to fast for the wrong reasons. Yes it's insta love but hey even insta love can be a good read and this author adds suspense and the thrill of the chase to it as well.
Loved all of the action and really enjoyed the characters as well. This is a new to me author and I love all of the aspects of the story that were added to keep it moving and not just sex. I like this authors style and even though historical reads are really my thing I had no trouble jumping in and forgetting that it was a historical read (well until the horse, or lanterns, carriages and such were mentioned).
Sweet story with some curves thrown into it. This is a story that ends at 92% on my e-reader. I felt instead of blurb for next story, this one would helped if character's more developed.
We have two villains and they seem to know where exactly to go. Also, how did one of the villains know who she was at a masked ball?
Parts of the story were thrilling and suspenseful and that raised my rating. There is lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 4 out of 5.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, little on romance and steam. (ljb)
3.5 stars This is an entertaining, adventurous read. Ranulph and Penelope are interesting, intriguing, complex, strong, entertaining characters. The path to their HEA is not an easy one, but entertaining to read. I enjoyed spending time with these two. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. The story is easy to read and get into. There is a lot packed into less than 100 pages, I did however want a few things expanded upon; explained better.
Kidnapped: His Bride-to-Be Penelope is to be married to a virtual stranger so as a last resort to an adventure she sneaks off to a masked ball. Penelope Ashurst is a dutiful daughter, but wishing for just one adventure before she submits to marriage to the stuffy old viscount her father has selected, she sneaks off to attend a society masked ball. There, she dances and shares a secret kiss with a handsome blond stranger. Her heart is stolen! How can she find a way to come face to face with this mystery man once more? When Ranulph Rochefort, Earl of Monfort, meets Miss Ashurst, he realizes this goddess is the young woman picked out for him as a suitable wife. However, it’s clear Penelope has no idea he’s the one she’s been promised to. He decides not to reveal his identity but to contrive to see her again. Only then, Penelope is abducted! Lord Percival Trane, a ne’er-do-well aristocrat, needs to marry a wealthy woman to settle his debts. When Ranulph fathoms who has taken Penelope, and that they are bound for Gretna Green, he knows he must move heaven and earth find her. But can he reach her in time, and instead, claim her as his rightful bride? She thought he was dead but he was only injured. Alanna Lucas has written a very good novella.
A short read for me, but beautifully written, I am envious of the prose, an antheisitis of my own. Penelope wanting an adventure goes to a risque ball with her best friend, sneaking out of her home, thinking what a lark it will be. The problem with doing something that you shouldn't is just when the fun starts disaster happens. However, the gallant hero comes to her rescue, Ranulph, a veritable feast for the eyes, who extricates her from potential disaster. She is smitten, and cannot wait to see her hero again, yet at the next ball, true disaster strikes, she is kidnapped, who will rescue her now? I highly recommend! Thank you. carolintallahassee.com
I wrote a review on Amazon, I know that it was published, why didn't they share it here as they said they would? I enjoyed the book, Penelope falls in love at first sight, a phenomenon I believe in. Penelope is dying for adventure and gets more than she bargained for when she is kidnapped! Who will save her? I have to say something that is occurring in the most Historical Romance Genre, instead of my favorite Alpha Male hero, we have an analytical hero? I prefer the Alpha Male who walks in, punches out the bad guys, ruins them financially, sneaks the herorine away, and HEA. Just a thought. carolintallahassee

This is a wonderful story of love at first sight, abduction ,a few painful moments and HEA. The author does a wonderful job of grabbing you from the first. I felt like I was watch the story in the room and enjoyed the characters, except for a couple of them. The emotional ride was well written and the story quick and easy to read! Loved it!
This book was enjoyable and a quick read. A masquerade ball starts the story rolling into a kidnapping, a pursuit on the road to Gretna Green, and another masquerade ball. An adventure with a happy ending, of course.
