Started out good. Thought we were heading to a kick arse heroine....I was wrong. We began to see a shift from action and suspense to a slow-motion romance.
Little predictable. Slows down a good bit by 40%. Romance is a two flamer 🔥🔥
I was looking for a random vampire story to read since I was in the mood for some pain and blood (I know, weird). What I got instead was insta-love and a bunch of nothing.
I don't mean nothing in the bad sense. It's more of nothing really happens. In the beginning it seemed interesting but everything happened too fast. She sets eyes on these mysterious men and instantly there is some sort of connection from afar and the three men become all alpha thinking, "Mine". Hey, I'm all for alpha's and possessiveness but there didn't really seem to be a reason for it.
Then, somehow they help her escape so very easily while doing much of nothing. It seemed like this story went by too easily just to force these four together. I didn't get why Elijah was so hellbent on pushing Ky away. "It's all about duty," blah! I hate that excuse unless there was an actual reason for it. The guys are supposed to be well established Lords and are well respected with the Empress but there wasn't much to back it up other than they know how to fight??
I skimmed through the rest of the story when I got 70% of the way. The bigger part of the story was just Ky understanding who she was and forced romance with three men (men who I described to be different than all the others), men she just met but is fine with everything and cares for them all within 30 minutes of meeting.
There just wasn't enough substance to the story. The ending was meh because, again, everything happens too easily.
Rating: 3.5/5 Spice: 4/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶 This read had my emotions all over the place! I personally liked some parts more than others, but it was a quick and easy read. That was exactly what I needed right now to get out of this reading slump! My only dislike was the middle. There was a lot of rushing with the relationships, which I think could have been slowed down more. However, it wasn't enough that it caused me to want to stop reading. Our FMC, Kyella, was trapped as a blood thrall for a vampire emperor who wants nothing more than to keep her locked away and to himself for the rest of her life. She longed for more and that was exactly what she got when 3 vampire lords rescued her and brought her to an empire she didn't even know could exist. Everything she thought she knew about the world and rules were wrong. Things could be better and she could be stronger! These men showed her she could be loved and cherished, not used solely as a blood source and nothing else. Of course it helps that they are unbelievably sexy and RESPECTFUL. They plan to show her exactly the ways she should have been treated and are more than happy to do so. They all share this intense connection and attraction with this woman. Kyella can now grow and experience things she didn't know were possible. Along the way she also starts to be confident in herself and her strength. She will no longer bow to anyone, but pick her head up and learn to fight for herself and the people she loves. I plan on continuing the series and following Kyella on this journey of self-discovery! Loved everything so far!
What can I say about this book... Well I was not a huge fan at all. I started out pretty good. Then it just starts to slide slowly downhill. She discovers she is a dhampyr suddenly and is pretty powerful. ..boring. There is some insta love. As soon as the 3 guys see her they love her. But of course, one of the 3 plays hard to get and is all moody and broody about it while secretly pining for the girl he barely knows anything about. 'She is their missing piece' gah. Such an eyeroll. There is no real drama amongst the group. Mr Moody doesn't have any spectacular blow ups. We end the book on a cliffhanger after Mr Moody confesses that he really loves her after all. She gets kidnapped rather quickly by the baddies and we end at a cliffhanger. This book is boring and is full of things that have been done over and over again. Its predictable, dull, and just plain boring.
I don't think I read the entire blurb for this book before deciding if I would accept the arc I was offered or not. I saw the words Vampyre and Blood in the title and I knew more than enough. I might have learned to love every other supernatural creature too, but my first and biggest love will always be the vampire. There is something exciting, dangerous, charming and alluring when it comes to vampires. And it seems that it even works when they're written vampires!
I've read quite a few other books by these authors, which I all loved, but it somehow feels like they really outdid themselves with this one! Yes, the build up is a little slow. The authors take their time to introduce the world and the different characters to us, helping us to grow attached to them and to start caring about them, but the more information they give away, the closer the characters grow to each other, the more exciting the story becomes!
Even though the authors never lose themselves in very lengthy info dumps, not even when characters are getting their information from books in the library, it's quite easy to feel like we have a complete picture of the world. We've seen more than enough horrors in our heroine's home kingdom to know what the rest of the kingdom will look like and we hear so many stories, and are shown so many stories, from the world of her men that the contrast becomes quite clear.
However, that interesting world would never be this interesting if the characters weren't interesting enough to keep my attention. What I really loved about these characters is that they're all having point of view chapters and that they all have their own stories to tell, their own emotions and history to deal with, their own hurdles to overcome and their own fights to win. And I'm pretty sure this was only the beginning. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
I’ve read this book too many times. It starts out interesting, then devolves into page after page about clothes and interchangeable sex with interchangeable male leads (plus the one guy who is always “oh, no, I cannot allow myself to love you!”), and finally in the last chapter it returns to having some semblance of a plot, just so it can end on a cliffhanger. But I just — yawn — do not care.
DNF. this got boring pretty quickly. Like she escapes early on and it’s super easy? And everything is basically instalove? And she finds out pretty quickly why she’s so special? Just…idk, it all seems really easy and it’s getting really boring
Another great start to a collaboration between these two amazing authors. I have loved each new release of the previous shared world between RL Caulder and M Sinclair so I was excited to begin this book. I’m not sure if I like it as much as the last collaboration (yet) but it’s been pretty good.
The world building became better and better with each chapter. I know there’s even more to be explored and revealed and I cannot wait to see more of this world. While we did learn a bit of history, I want to know more about the different lands, and how they came to be the way that they are. I want to learn the history and stories of the vampires and human relationships as a whole, but also with some individual characters.
While I did enjoy meeting the FMC, I’m not sure how I felt about the MMCs. They kind of molded together for me so I’m hoping to learn a bit more about them in the next book so that they’re easier to differentiate. I know she didn’t play as big a role as the FMC and her men but I would love to learn even more about the queen. I find her character fascinating and I just know the more we learn about her the more we will love her.
I think that the world building really shone in this novel. I’m still deciding on how I feel about some of the main characters, but I know the authors will make me fall in love with the characters like they always do. I can’t wait to see how the story continues and I definitely want some answers after that cliffhanger.
This is a great start to a new series and the second written by this author pairing and its off to a promising start. It has a completely different feel to the first one which is good as tey were unlikely to match the intensity of that first series as it was immence
This has a sweeter feel to it and the character dynamics are completely different - Kyella has an innocents about her and is trying to be strong and when all hope seems to be lost she forms a bond with a guard who becomes protective in a paternal way. She is just trying to survive her life of seritude by way of being the Emporor Malakai's Thrall after her escape attempt fails.
Elijah, Dakath, and Kolvar are knights on a recki mission when they are drawn to her in explicadly and find a need to fee her that even they dont understand.
There is certainly chemistry and intruige in this storey plus a reasonable amount of heat along with a ton of intruige - cant wait to see where this storey leads so definateley waiting on book 2.
One of our favorite duos is at it again with this vampire PNR retelling!
This was a great start to this series and I can’t wait for more. Kyella is trapped in a horrible situation, a victim of circumstances and things out of her control, and when life seems the most bleak and escape becoming less of a possibility our guys..and a pretty great friend step in and save the day.
This book is the beginning of Kyella finding herself and our group discovering who they are together but also what life is like as individuals who find comfort and love in such an unexpected place. I can’t wait to see where this story takes us.
We get some spice, emotions, and a cliffhanger that has me super happy this is a rapid release series.
If you’re ready , which who isn’t when this duo puts a book out, jump into the world of vampires and more. A war is waging and you aren’t going to want to miss it.
SO FREAKING GREAT!!! This story was action-packed, heart-warming and heart-breaking, and just oh so good! Kyella is such a strong, resilient women. To experience all she has been through and still want to fight, to live and to love was awe-inspiring. Then bring in her men…Elijah, Dakath, and Kolvar…*fans self*! They are sexy, possessive, loving, and caring men. They fight for what is right and they fight for Kyella. The way they open up and become raw, real, and vulnerable with Kyella is beautiful. Seeing them trust one another and open themselves up and become vulnerable is stunning. This story is so original and enthralling I couldn’t put it down! I’m giddy with excitement to see where this story goes and see Kyella come even more into the bada** woman she is!
I'm done for. This book has made me want about 20 books with this world and characters. The writing is absolute perfection. The world building is so unique and is made of Vampires and Humans....with the FMC having a bit of "supernatural spice". Kyella is such an awesome character. I love how she never gives up while being put through the ringer, she even has a bit of spunky humor. Every girl wants a knight in shining armor and Kyella gets that X3. These men are pure 🔥 The chemistry between them makes me 🥵
The ending is a cliffhanger that I LOVE TO HATE! I can't even stand it that I have to wait for book 2 :D Y'all are not going to want to miss this trilogy cause it's already started off with a 💣
Ruthless Blood is book 1 in the trilogy, The Vampyres’ Source and is a fantastical world of vampyres and humans.
When her family is killed, Kyella ends up in the hands of an evil Emperor. Forced to be his thrall, Kyella has spent years of her life being used and abused. Until one fateful party and three mysterious vampyre lords change everything.
I enjoyed the world building and the concept of thralls and vampyres. I liked Kyella, she’s a fighter with a lot of strength. Her vampyre lords are sexy and possessive. I enjoyed seeing the relationship building and vulnerability within them. I’m intrigued enough for book 2 and obviously that cliffhanger didn’t help. Good thing this series is a rapid release and we don’t have to wait long to see what happens.
I love this world and these characters! Kyella has suffered so much in the last five years. She deserves the happiest of happy endings, although it seems like it might take a bit longer for her to get it.
This is a fantastic take on vampires and thralls. The world-building is intricate and fascinating. I just want to know more, more, more! I adore Kyella and her men. They have all suffered in different ways, and the ways it affects their relationship growth and dynamics makes for fantastic character developments.
There is a fair amount of spice, although this is a slower burn. It works for the story and the characters and I’m excited for it to heat up in future books.
The twists and turns of the plot kept me reading well past my bedtime and I’m very excited to see what happens next!
M.Sinclair and RL Caulder are back with another badass co-write and I am literally over the moon excited. I LOOOOVE seeing these two authors work together.
Ruthless Blood is the first book in a brand new series, The Vampyres’ Source. F****ck, this is fantastic!!! From the very beginning, I was hooked!! The world building is phenomenal. Although, this is a slow to medium burn, it was well worth the pacing. Kyella is such a badass with a heart of gold and really grows throughout the book. Her knights...uh guys, Dakoth, Kolvar, and Elijah, are everything you want in a hero(es). It does end on a cliffhanger, but definitely want Moore!
This book takes everything I had previously read about vampires (and vampyres) and dumps it out soundly on its head. I think Kyella and Elijah are my favorite characters so far, though I’m pretty sure the others won’t stay in second place for long. Elijah’s stoic self-denial just made me want to hug him tight. And, Kyella’s determination in the face of everything going against her was simply awe-inspiring. I don’t even want to try to guess where the story is going to go next, but I’m desperate to find out, whatever it is. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
omg, where to start!?! … Kyella’s life has definitely been more difficult than someone should have to endure over the last four years, regardless if being a thrall to a Vampyre lord was supposed to be special … but when Elijah, Kolvar, and Dakath show up, will Kyella let herself actually feel hopeful that she might actually get out of this nightmare
Another amazing series by this duo. Kyella has lived her life as a prisoner to the emperor and his evil whims. Three visiting lords change her life by helping her escape. Some life changing secrets come put and more problems show up at thier door. Great first book in this series.
The duo of R.L. Caulder and M. Sinclair is just amazing. Ruthless Blood had me excited and not wanting to put it down. I really loved Kyella and her men
A great start to this new series!! This book started off really strong but by about halfway it started to feel really predictable - similar to their other books but with a different storyline I’m totally invested in the story now though and can’t wait to read the next book!!
Good start to a new series. At one point I thought it might be dull. So glad I didn’t listen to that thought and read on. I am ready to find out what happens. 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5
This book had me hooked from the beginning, but that’s no surprise as these authors do that well when they write together.
Kyella is put through unimaginable things during her captivity on the island, she doesn’t let her spirits break no matter what she’s put through. Until the night everything changes and the protection she thought she had by being the favorite is gone. Then she meets the three lords that will change her life more than she ever expected.
The men are all very different, they have all been through so much but their lives are very different than the one Kyella has lived so far. They bring her to their island only to find out she’s not who they all thought she was.
The world building in this book was absolutely incredible!! This is a slow/medium burn, and the angst and build up is fantastic.
This does end on a cliffy and I’m anxious for the next one!
Wow what a story!!! This is first book in new series. Right from start I really liked Kyella. Just liked how she is a strong character. Oh the storyline is phenomenal. I think I’m obsessed already. This is a rapid release so I’m excited that book 2 is coming quickly. Definitely recommend. Be prepared to be obsessed with this world. Loved it!!!
DNF at 32% The premise was intriguing and I'm a sucker for vampire RH with a tortured heroine. But I couldn't continue with this one.
Writing was average at best. Some sections just read like it was written by a teenage girl. There's so much 'show, don't tell' that it becomes impossible to ignore. Are we sure this isn't just a Wattpad story?
Insta-love (literal love at first sight) and insta-trust between the FMC and MMCs, despite her horrific past and how we are reminded several times how huge the MMCs are. But they're hot, so obviously they're safe.
The escape itself was as easy as jumping out a window and getting on a ship just an hour or two after first meeting the MMCs. There's conveniently no guards watching her, despite the fact her captor clearly knows there's something funny going on.
Then there's the stereotypical one grumpy MMC in the harem who is cold towards the FMC, even though he has the exact same ⭐instant magical connection⭐ to her and actively helped in her escape. I like a grumpy hero but this is just so formulaic.
It's all just cliches, bad tropes, and bad writing. I wish I could have looked past the issues but there's so many that I just can't. Don't bother with this one.
This was very much a 'telling' story instead of a 'showing' story. Every character's emotions were clearly described, even when they were trying to hide from them. Communication was clear. We were told many times how great (or not) each character was instead of working it out ourselves - the FL at one point starting thinking how she is worth every ounce of love because she's kind. The kindness wasn't demonstrated anywhere, possibly because the focus is on the romance.
Despite that, it was a perfect lazy book. I didn't have to work anything out because it was all clearly stated for me which meant low brain power was needed to read. I doubt this would become many people's favourite book but it's a perfectly acceptable option to kill a few hours.
The story is ok, the characters are likable, but there are too many clichés and implausibility for me in this story. An example: two kingdoms separated by a sea which is crossed in two days, whose inhabitants speak the same language, but who have no contact? The inhabitants of one of the kingdoms (it's less clear for the other, or so I don't remember, it's been a while since I read these books) have no idea that the other kingdom exists? That, and other stuff, got me off the hook.
EEEee!! I love an all vampire ensemble! Brings me back to my reading roots! Great start to a new epic series. The vamps are protective, possessive and smexy. Our heroine is starting her journey of self discovery and we can totally tell she's gunna be EPIC. We end on a whopper of a cliff hanger, but if you're looking for a fast paced, action packed, steamy (and sweet) vampire RH I would totally recommend this!
