The Cayman Islands have strict residency laws, protecting their slice of paradise, but where there's a rule, there’s always someone looking for a way to circumvent it for their own gains - by any means possible.
Nora Sommer's detective training continues with a bizarre case, where doing wrong, being unethical, and breaking the law don't necessarily align. Under strict scrutiny after her last case, Nora must stay between the lines while chasing villains under no such restrictions.
Book three in the Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense series will keep you guessing… and wondering who the real victim might be.
A USA Today bestselling author, Nicholas Harvey's life has been anything but ordinary. Race car driver, motorsports professional, adventure traveller, divemaster, and since 2020, a full-time novelist. Raised in England, Nick has dual UK and US citizenship and now lives nomadically wherever he and his amazing wife, Cheryl, choose to land for a few months. He is the author of the Nora Sommer Suspense, Kat Cromwell Mystery, and AJ Bailey Adventure series, as well as multiple collaborations.
Missing elements caused me to downgrade this a bit. On the plus side, an easy read, an interesting plot and some interesting characters. But, I got into this series since I really enjoy the Cayman Islands and diving. Hence the source of my disappointment. This story could take place on any Caribbean island, there is really nothing beyond the street names and hotel names to give you a sense of Grand Cayman. The diving is severely limited, just Nora's occasional "clear the head" free dive so I really missed that aspect of her tales.
I just finished listening to Dark Sommer, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. Nora Sommer‘s character is a standout for me. I love that she always has to fight to not say the wrong thing (and usually fails). I think it’s a believable flaw that adds to her charm. Additionally, Nora’s ability to think outside the box and approach crimes uniquely makes the stories interesting and a blast to listen to.
In this Dark Sommer, we also get to see another peak behind the curtain of Nora’s story; and the ending (without giving any spoilers) was a genuine surprise. It seems like Nora might be taking on more responsibility in the future, and I’m excited to see where her personal story goes.
I really enjoy Harvey’s writing style and how he’s able to place the story in the Caribbean, making specific points where you don’t think, “this could happen here,” and at other times, you do. I don’t know how to explain it better, but it makes these stories all a blast to read, in my opinion.
As for the story itself, it was absolutely fascinating. Without giving anything away, the reveal around 3/4 of the way through had my jaw dropping in shock. The mystery kept me guessing and thinking, “maybe this person did it” throughout. All in all, Dark Sommer is a thrilling and engaging story that I flew through, given the excellent performance by Kim Bretton.
In Dark Sommer, (A Nora Sommer Caribbean Suspense, Book 3) by Nicholas Harvey, Scandinavian ex-pat Constable Nora Sommer and her sidekick, Jacob, investigate the brutal murder of a young woman, then search for the victim's missing baby.
Jazzy (a teen absconded from foster care for three years), is seemingly fascinated by Nora - who's struck by the similarities to her own troubled youth. What can Nora do to help?
Robbie Barker, a young disabled computer nerd, plays a vital part in helping Nora and her boss, Detective Whittaker, to progress matters. How?
Who's behind the money-making scheme that has tentacles spread worldwide, profiteering from wealthy, infertile couples' misery?
A gritty, all-too-shockingly-possible story that will keep you riveted to your copy of Nicholas Harvey's Dark Sommer, throughout. Get it now!

Okay. I admit it. Nick Harvey is one of my favorite authors. I anxiously await his books, and have never been disappointed. DARK SOMMER is a great read. Boss's character development is great, and her new friend, Jazzy, is a hoot. I hope Nick includes her in future books of the series. BUY THIS BOOK! It's fun! This is such an awesome book one of the best ever!!! Really twisted and so convoluted that you really had to pay attention to what was going on and what people said. Sommer is a hoot; funny and her feelings and thoughts are so transparent. The fact that I agree with most of everything she said doesn’t mean a thing!!
Another superb mystery adventure story with our impulsive Norweigan , Nora Sommer. This book introduces more great characters and once again has us follow multiple clues to reach the well constructed finale. It is good to have a main character who is not perfect and sometimes skirts the rules. Love this series
I absolutely love the Nora Sommer series written by Nicholas Harvey. Her level of maturity, Norwegian cultural attitude, and quick wit make her a protagonist worth cheering for. Dark Sommer continues Nora’s story and does not disappoint as she and her counterparts solve Cayman Island's crimes and mysteries.
Each of the Nora Sommer books is a stand alone. I enjoyed reading this book because there is always a twist that I am not expecting. I get so invested in the story that I feel my heart race at the exciting parts and I like the interaction between Nora and her friends and co-workers.
I absolutely love this character! She trucks no pin dicks and is so compassionate to everything else from blue iguanas to 13 yr old street urchins…and she gets the bad guys along the way! More Nora Summers, I say!!
Another good book from Mr. Harvey! This time instead of investigating girls for sale, Nora looks into babies for sale. Even though this book is similar to the last book it is still a good read, very entertaining. I enjoy the recurring characters very much!
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
I’m absolutely loving this series. I especially love Nora, faults and all. As young as she is…she has lived a lifetime. I’m diving right into the next book. Such a great, unique series.
Nora is involved in the search for the murderer of a young woman, who had recently given birth. She is also seeking a young girl she has seen living on the streets, who is annoyingly elusive.
