Hubris

Rate this book
Vicky elected to walk a path so many others had. She had it all - a wonderful, kind, lovingly devoted husband of twenty years, a great circle of friends, a son and daughter now in college and excelling in their course work. Her husband earned a high seven figures a year, and she, herself, earned over to six figures a year. They had a beautiful home and an exciting, affectionate, stress-free loving family.
Vicky wanted more... just a bit more, and just for the hell of it. Just because she could. And why not? She well knew her husband would be upset, and she also knew she could manage her husband’s anguish. She had it all worked out, every angle examined and fool-proofed. Her husband... the gentle, loving man that he was... would have an initial conniption fit, and she would counter his anger with the plan-within-the-plan. The scales would balance and all would be as it should be.
Vicky was a smart woman and an exceptional negotiator. She knew she could manage this little hiccup in her wondrous world with her eyes closed.
Hubris being what it is, she thought of her husband as a cuddly little puppy in her lap. A few gentle words, a gentle petting, and a gentle pull on his tail...
Brad is no puppy, though. That tail she intends to pull is a tiger’s tail, and this tiger doesn’t care for having its tail pulled.
Only a fool yanks a tiger’s tail.

There is NO sex in this story!!

This story is intended for those 18+ and contains some mild offensive language.

A Total BTB Book

So first of all in case it’s important to you there is really no sex in the story. Not sure what genre it would be but certainly not erotica. A wife decides to have an affair and tells her husband before hand. She fully expects him to be mad awhile and then forgive her. Stupid bitch. She even persuades their college age children to side with her. Stupid kids. Well as you would expect, it being a BTB story, he unleashes all hell on them. Ooops…..maybe we shouldn’t have done that.

This was a first for me. I’ve never read a book that was a 100% Burn the B book. I guess there was some rebuilding of lives for the main characters, but even near the end the ex-wife/mother was still being burned.

This excerpt from the About this Book lays out the story:

“Vicky wanted more... just a bit more, and just for the hell of it. The scales would balance and all would be as it should be.”

Not so fast. The “gentle, loving man” doesn’t take the plan well, even when it’s laid out for him a week in advance. He’s even more enraged when he learns the plan has been falling into place for 4 months and his kids and in-laws have been co-opted into the plan. Despite husband Brad’s reaction and some pretty clear warning signs, Vicky proceeds.

I thought the story was interesting, although it belaboured the repudiation of Brad’s initial family. It also came across as a little preachy. I was somewhat thrown off by the cover because the character it depicts comes across as more of a homebody than a sexpot.

The preachy aspects were pushing me to give this well written book a 3, but I’m going to settle on 4 Stars. I’ll think about more books from this author, but many of his books seem to be along the same theme. Maybe I’ll wait until I’m in the mood for another good burning.

May appear to be ,but this is Not erotica. Incredibly intense ott tale about the sequela of narcissism, disrespect and infidelity and the true meaning of love and loyalty.

First the cover is misleading, this is not erotica. I treated this book like a thought experiment instead of an actual story that I thought could happen. The way the story started was so outlandish. I can't imagine anything like that happening the way it happened. In order to get into the story I had to preface it in a certain way. I thought to myself I can't believe something like would happen like this. A guy is married to his wife for 20 years and she all of sudden asks him a question about her taking a lover. The way she said it. So logically like it would have nothing to do with the way she feels about him. It would just be something for her and when she got back they would be in a loving marriage again. He asked her to think about the long term. What about the kids. She already told the kids what was going to happen and they were okay with it. She didn't want to get divorced. She has been seeing this guy for 4 months and the kids and her whole family knew about it. They haven't had sex yet but they are planning to go to Aruba for 2 weeks and they will have sex then. Their marriage will be fine when she gets back.

So, yeah. I can't see it happening like that. I then decided to just go with it. I said to myself IF I was in a situation like this as unbelievable as it was, how would I respond? How would the other characters respond? The husband's response was 100% (90%) believable. I still don't believe the wife and the kids would act the way they did even after that setup. The wife's reasoning was kind of interesting but her responses to most of the story were idiotic.

Too be honest, I quite enjoyed this..a husband who fought back against his cheating wife and family. I'd like to read more of this type of book, I quite like sharing, swinging etc but cheating, humiliation can be quite a turn off..each to his own I know but sometimes it would be nice for one of these cuck/hotwife writers to maybe put this type of scenario into their books..so there!! Too many wimps can spoil the broth !

Wow

I'm "binge-reading" Mr Mathison's books. Third one in 20 hours...I read fast and I'm retired. I've read a LOT of erotica in the past 14 months since my wife died and frankly , Niven's Law applies: 90% of anything is crap. Well, this book is in the top 10%. Zero sex and it enhances the emotional impact. It brought home a very big truth: emotional betrayal or loss of intimacy is THE killer in a relationship. It's just a story, but a great one.

What a great read and satisfying book! At first I thought it would be one of those infuriating tales of a cheating wife getting away with her whoring because of a weak and kinky husband.
However I pressed on fearing just that but hoping for something more real, honest and just.
Well Steven and his co-writer gave me that and more.
Shalamara Jax who sadly is currently not painting her literary master pieces is the only author, until now, who has managed to give me a titillating and erotic journey ending with a reasonably fair and just conclusion.
The book in question is not erotic but the consequences are in my opinion titillating.
Erotic creations should parallel real life, to some degree, to gain the best traction in the minds of readers.
Looking forward to my next book by Steven
Just read the book a third time to clear my head of the bullshit hot wife tales I fall into.

Enlightening

I got this book because I thought it might be kind of sexy and from a husband that wasn't a cuckolds point of view. I missed the part in the introduction that said it wasn't. I started reading it and just couldn't put it down. Really engrossing and deeply emotional.

highly readable

Great characters well developed, easy to follow the growth and learning of the characters. Any story that deals with break up is also sad
