Sanctuary #3

Beyond Haven

Rate this book
Having my dad and Uncle Scott back at Sanctuary seems like a dream come true. Unfortunately, I still have to deal with my sister Emery’s delusional antics. If that wasn't bad enough, a blast from one of my men’s past intrudes on our haven, bringing their toxic energy with them.
A trip beyond the wall makes us face the direness of the world beyond our haven, and we find ourselves put in a situation where we need to decide to either ignore or step up.

It seems like life continues to want to trip us up, hoping we stumble. But I have news for life: if we fall, we’re getting right back up and facing it head-on.

***Beyond Haven is Book Three in the reverse harem contemporary series, Sanctuary. This is not the final book and does not end in a cliffhanger***

*3.5* I think binging this series back to back was a bad idea. Very entertaining, but the immaturity was eye-rolling. Yes, we get it, you’re amazing and can do no wrong and everybody loves you. Except for other women, and they are all spitefully evil.

Darker than the previous two stories, this one deals with human trafficking. Specifically trading women.

Original review

While this series reads very NA, it's still a cheesy bunch of fun!
“I have five amazing men, a beautiful daughter, a handsome son, and two incredible dogs. You are the culmination of dreams I would never have imagined.”
RH, super sexy men, steamy scenes, fighting zombies and ott bad guys.

Kinda tired of the ow drama, and using annoying women to make the h look like a unicorn. I wish this series would've gone a little deeper into the emotions of the main characters, but still enjoy these books for what they are.

When I tell you I've been checking Amazon for the past two days, waiting for this book to drop.
I'M OBSESSED WITH ANYTHING SM Olivier PUTS OUT.

As soon as it was on my kindle I immediately settled down to read it in one go. I kept reminding myself to slow down every time I saw the percentage go up.

Beyond Haven immediately picks up from the ending of the previous book. All three of the Young brothers are finally reunited. I was dying at how Emery was FINALLY put in her place.
We see a lot of new additions that I and other readers theorised about.

Tensions were thick throughout the book, and rightfully so. As the apocalypse progresses, things like morals and ethics become trivial. Avery and her men are faced with witnessing many horrible things and it seems they are the only ones willing to do a thing about it.

I have to say that I don't trust the new military group they met at the end. Looking forward to seeing how all that plays out in the next book.

I missed reading about Mike in this book. While BJ stepped up and was more mature in his role at Sanctuary, I was kinda hoping for more interactions with Mike. Although I suppose we shall read about them in the next book.

Okay but Zeke in this book... Um lost for words. I'm so happy about how everything turned out. Foster, Danni and Mariah were super cute and provided great comic relief. I'm super happy on Avery's behalf that she is finally getting the family she deserves.

I can not recommend this book enough. EVERYONE HAS TO READ THIS SERIES!! I will continue my obsession with this series in the spoiler group on Facebook as I wait for the next.

I found myself in the deeply inconvenient position of loving this series while repeatedly asking, ‘Why are you like this?’

I need to start with the lows 🪫 My brain won’t let me move on otherwise….

Towards the end of the book, the FMC ran into an enemy who had previously helped with the attempted kidnapping of women (for a rival male group) and the murder of others. When she saw her again, the woman was locked in a dungeon, very clearly not there by choice and badly abused (loads of triggers in this chapter). And yet… the FMC started trying to reason with the guys about leaving her there.

That moment completely threw me. Her personality just kind of flipped. She had always been compassionate and rational, but suddenly she made this really quick decision without actually taking in how messed up the situation was, which it absolutely was. The change pulled me right out of the story.

It felt like a total moral compass moment. This woman had helped to kidnap women who she knew would be SA’d, but now seeing her like that… I had a million questions about whose side to be on. Part of me wanted to let her go because of what she’d been through, but part of me knew she’d hurt others again to save herself.

Didn’t expect to be using my brain this much in this book.

Another annoyance for me was the pet names. ‘My king,’ ‘My queen,’ ‘goddess’…it was a bit much. It just reminded me of those couples who overdo the PDA to prove how in love they are. We get it. I do like Zeke, though. He can say all the pet names and get away with it. I was all in for his speech in the woods about why they should be together, and, yes, the shower scene too.

I do have to give the author credit, every MMC has such a distinctive personality. You’d never confuse them, and it really feels like you know how each of them would react in any situation.

I’m taking a slight book break from this series, but I’ll definitely (probably) be back for the final one.

‼️Slight rant, which could apply to every book I read‼️

I wish the trigger warnings were included in the book and not just the standard “check the website”. It seems like such an unnecessary step. Why do they do that? For anyone who doesn’t want to search through a website, there are SA scenes and a mention of child SA. Not an easy read.

Slightly off topic, but I recently read a book where the author even listed the pages with triggering content 🙌Genius move 🙌 They also recapped those scenes later in less detail, so you didn’t feel like you missed anything. I’m not usually trigger-sensitive, but knowing something heavy was coming definitely made me approach those chapters more cautiously.

Compared to the first two books, this was just bad. There is no plot whatsoever, just random situations put together.

So, since the dad and uncle finally arrived at the Sanctuary and the evil twin was reined in a bit, we were introduced to a new female villain, that is just batshit crazy. Bordering on boring how badly she was written. So many new children were introduced and adopted, new, never before mentioned, siblings magically brought back together, and as if five love interests weren’t enough for our MC, one more is introduced in this book. Not that the guy wasn’t interesting, it was just over the top and completely unnecessary.

I don’t know if this is the last book in the series, but if it is, then boy did we not get any closure whatsoever. Not that it matters much, the story was so repetitive and boring I didn't even care by the end.

I probably would’ve rated this higher if anything had actually been handled from the previous two books. Instead, we just get more plot threads introduced with none of the antagonists from the beginning actually handled.

Going into this, I will say that i know this author loved her OW drama. I am not a fan of OW drama ever, but alas, her stories hook me in and I am too curious to give it up. That’s on me.

That being said, I would love to know what woman hurt this author 🤷🏻‍♀️ 95% of the women in this book, if they are around the same age as the fmc, is a psycho bitch. They’re written in such a way that of course you’re on the side of the fmc, but I’ve never met any woman like the ones in these books. If they care about their looks, apparently they’re narcissists. They’re bimbos if they wear lace underwear, but the fmc is special because she wears sports bras and boy shorts. Give me a break. It’s the zombie apocalypse and apparently there are multiple women who would rather not work and just want to fuck men. They’re all nasty to other people, except of course the older women, the fmcs best friend who gets brought up like 2 times, and maybe 1-2 other random women.

Nothing happens with her evil twin. It’s an ongoing thing, and she’s probably gonna do something terrible in an upcoming book. We get to meet another psycho, one of her guy’s ex wife who cheated on him with his twin brother, and she’s basically a replica of the evil twin. Not sure why this had to be a plot point at all, other than how she’ll probably team up with psycho twin to do something to Avery. Because Avery is just so special and everyone is so jealous of her.

More kids are introduced. Like all of this author’s books, we get random paragraphs about characters we just met and their life stories. Sometimes there’s so many characters in a paragraph you’re just like… who tf is this?

I can’t remember how much time has passed during the first two books, but at one point Avery mentions it’s been a month that they’ve been at Sanctuary. Like???? That’s it?????? But at some points it seems like a few days have passed randomly. Some chapters end, and it feels like the next chapter should continue, but it just picks up somewhere else.

The fmc referring to other women as “females” constantly annoyed me 🤷🏻‍♀️ like just say women???? You call your men “men” all the time, not males, soo…

Anyway I’ll probably read book 4 because I’m a sucker with no willpower.

Idk what's up with the ow drama, each book is a different ow going behind one of the H's 🙄. In this case Axle's ex wife returns, she cheated on him with his twin brother and had a child who he assumed was his.....turns out she wasn't. He'd been fighting for visitation with the child pre apocalypse. Mind you this is the first we've heard of this and this is book 3 😒
So the ex returns and gets ridiculously OTT trying to get him back and cause problems in his relationship with the h. AGAIN the cheating MAN is forgiven and brought into the gold..... while the cheater woman is villifed. Trevor was forgiven in previous books while Emery gets worse every book. Here Axle's twin brother is forgiven while his ex is painted as a villain. His TWIN brother cheated with his wife!!!! Why is he less a villain especially as he continued the relationship but we're told the ex convinced him that she was working on forming a throuple with Axel. 😂😂😂😂 I'm sorry what?!?? This is a mess......
Meanwhile the fights keep going, the h's dad and uncle return and we finally see some officials as members of the military appear and try to recruit the badassses to join them in taking down the eaters and a group of human sex traffickers.
This series is a mess but I can't stop reading 😭

Original review

Spoilers ahead. 2 stars for the entire series....but rounded up because idk why 😂

A man made virus first released in Africa finds it's way to the US. It's transmitted via saliva from an infected person. Our h and her family get the call to make their way to the family owned campground called Sanctuary, along the way they help who they can but are also attacked by both the infected and desperate people trying to stock up on items in an uncertain situation. At Sanctuary hundreds of people are eventually rescued and a new way of life is forged.

*******
The backstory on out very special snowflake h, Avery.........

She's been in a relationship with her adopted cousin for some years,
She suffers a miscarriage and finds out her fiance slept with her identical twin sister and also other women
She's a nursing student as well as on her way to the Olympics for Taekwondo
She's selfless, giving and a pure badass in battle
Did I mention she's a former child model too?
Our girl basically shits rainbows while delivering flying kicks and taking down the enemy with her sais
Every man wants her every woman wants to be her 🤷🏽‍♀️

The H's
We've got Corbin and Wyatt also cousins but not blood kin....they've loved Avery for years but she was with Trevor so they manwhored about until she's single
Oh did I mention they're the ULTIMATE badasses? Part of a special military group?
Axle the badass leader of the group of ultimate badasses
The twins light chocolate and dark chocolate👀 you guessed it another pair of ultimate badasses
Let's not forget our resident genius, once medical intern turned military badass
Last minute add to the cast in book 3 ..A former badass turned model who of course fits right in with the group of men and absolutely wants the h more than anything.... I mean why wouldn't he want her?

The scene
Mayhem and gore galore!
We get runs to get supplies for their rapidly expanding community
Fights against the infected
Rescue of innocents, including a couple kids that our unicorn and her badasses adopt 3
Fights with assholes who even in an end of world scenario still choose to be assholes
Drama drama drama from Avery's identical twin sister who pops up to trash talk like she's16, but all the drama from her and other bitches like her just emphasize how very special our h is🙄

Let's also talk about the convenience...
Running out of basics....there's a store close by that just happens to have what you need. As a matter of fact we can raid an Amazon store and really stock up
Got animals with ticks and such....well would you look at that on our last run we found a vet and some vet supplies
Pregnant women....well we've actually got a l&d nurse, the medic, the special snowflake nursing student....and an actual doctor
Got kids that need to be supervised.... Ha you forgot some of our recent rescues are teachers and childcare professionals didn't you?
I mean if there weren't infected beings trying to chew our faces off this would be paradise🤷🏽‍♀️
Lots of this over and over again

I've got tons more but my fingers are tired 😂

Was this good? Nope....but it kept me entertained, I laughed out loud at most of it
Was it worth 3 stars? Absolutely not.....but again entertainment🤷🏽‍♀️
It's the jerry Springer (may his beautiful soul RIP) of romance novels but hey I finished them all

Safety
Jeezanages lets see
The cheating ex Trevor was around
The H's were all manwhores and all the bitches in Sanctuary wanted them🙄 so OW drama here there and every where....I mean every frickin where
No cheating
RH

Please note violence is heavy here as well as child loss and abuse and violence against women

***ETA the guys called her things like goddess queen and siren 😂😂😂 I had to mention it cuz it irked me to no end

I just don't like it when the author portrays the negative characters as ugly/ fake/ artificial and the so-called "good" characters all goody good and perfect; it makes the story lose 'its' essence or character. Usually I'm all for the h being shown in a good light but seriously not by putting another person down.
Another issue I had: If it's the apocalypse then I wonder why the villainess was just banished from the Sanctuary and not killed for her misdeeds; afterall her actions resulted in the deaths of so many people. I don't think that's justice!
And what's with the twins spree. I think we have 3 sets of twins and they all get together during the zombie outbreak (really 🙄!?!).
The h is a RN and also a taekwondo artist who is proficient with weapons (how convenient to have a combat nurse during an apocalypse! On the other hand, her evil twin is portrayed as a characterless person who wrecks relationships and basically good for nothing.
I don't believe in putting one person down in order to feel good for oneself. To be honest, I skip-read part 2 & 3.

I've been saying from the beginning that I wanted more Axel. Be careful what you wish for. I was not expecting a long, awkward monolog of life's trials and tribulations from him, too. It really killed my lady boner. I'm a Zeke fan now. Kinda wish she'd drop all the guys and stick with him ;) As usual, the action is so much better than the dialogue and romance stuff. I read in the afterword that the author was in the military, so that makes so much more sense to me now.

IS THIS UNFINISHED?
It certainly felt unfinished, but I checked and so far there doesn't appear to be a fourth book being released. If another is released addressing the stories thus far ignored issues with some form of conclusion, then I'd be willing to reconsider my rating. I enjoy this writer's work and have been itching for the fifth book in the gifted connections series since the fourth dropped.

Even with this series which I found so many annoyances the writer still had me hooked to know what would happen next. Unfortunately this book felt like a filler, there was a lot of nothing. The addition of another worshipper to her harem, however this one had the potential to see how the MC would react with the possible rivalry with another female that wasn't ott villainous but instead that was barely even touched upon & then squashed without exploration. Given every other female that had potentially been a threat to her harem had been cast as banshee, psycho, or some other over the top mega-villain it would of been a great way to see how the how tight knit group responded to someome respectfully saying "pfft greedy guts I'm not trying to take anyone away but if you're capable of having such a big.. 'heart' that you can love more than one person, shouldn't the men" or "hey I'm not trying to take him away but I'd like a chance for he and I to get to know each other. Given you've got a heard of men I don't feel bad doing so" all without slagging her off or throwing her panties at them but being a nice person.

The lack of closure with the people that had headed up the people trafficking again made me think this wasn't the series conclusion, how can it be when they haven't been dealt with.

The other thing that bothered me was that all these antagonists appearing throughout this series were just so blatant and over the top without any subtlety shown at all. Whether it was female competition, or the male chauvinist popping up for her to squash. None were subtle, or conniving enough to mask their blatant issues or crazy.. I mean how were so many of the top of their field level females who were portrayed as being so evil, not manipulative enough to be stealthy or capable of masquerading it. Even the evil twin's attempts at being manipulative were that of a small child who instantly snaps out of fake crying in front of the very people she's supposed to be attempting to manipulate. Unfortunately this series just didn't work for me.

I absolutely love this series! I can’t wait for the next book. Avery is strong amazing character I have ever read. I love all the characters but do dislike some like Emerslyn (don’t think spelled right), Natalie, and Jade. I really hope they find a way to cure or get rid of the chompers.

Avery is back!! Book 3, much like books 1 and 2 did not disappoint!!!! With the world gone to crap, Sanctuary remains to be a safe haven for many. Her Dad and Uncle are back along with more people. Only not everyone is as happy to be there as they should be. We are introduced to new characters, both good and bad! And just when I didn't think anyone could be as bad as Emery, we meet Gia!! *insert eyeroll*

With the world still in a zombie-like apocalypse, they are forced with even more horrible things. While out on a run, they realize over 100 women have been stolen nearby to human traffickers. Their new mission is now to stop the chaos from continuing. It leads Avery, Axel, Corbin, Wyatt, Easton and Zeke on a mission like no other and the stakes are higher than ever.

"I wasn't sure what this apocalypse was doing to me - I knew it was changing me, and I didn't want to meditate on if it was for the worse or the better."

Leaving behind Foster and Isa, they realize their family has become something they are unable to live without so when decisions are made, can they really keep continuing on like this? When coming into close contact with human traffickers and pedophiles, the worst of the worst, they finally see the scum they are up against and save 100+ of women and children. But just when they think they can go back home, a new group they never anticipated shows up and starts making demands.

...after all the ugly our world had seen lately, he chose to add to it.

*******
This series continues to be amazing and I love everything about it. This book thankfully ends with NO cliffhanger but leaves us wanting more all the same. Things seem like they are about to change for the people in Sanctuary and I cant wait to see how it all unfolds. Zeke is FINALLY added to the mix and I love it. The heat between Avery and all of her guys is hot and I hope we get more babies soon! lol. I NEED Emery and Gia to meet their demise, PLEASE! I love this entire series, but dang, does this author also know how to write characters we all hate.

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 4/5
*First person POV (only Avery)
*Triggers? Yes (rape)
*Fast Burn
*Ending - no cliffhanger, but left you wanting more all the same.

imo…not as good as the first two

This book felt oddly short to me. I feel like not nearly as much happened, it spanned maybe three days, and it kind of dragged in places.

I will say that the drama is almost entirely instigated by female characters, and it gets kind of old because they’re all the same character, just different names (Emery, Gianna, Jade…). It would be nice if some of these characters could be resolved (lol killed).

I do like Zeke, he seems to be a good addition to the family. Not too much to say about him at this point but I’m looking forward to seeing how he fits in and finds his place in the group.

I am still excited for future books in this series! But again, I think the first two books were better.

Amazing

First, your note at the end. Your books are worth the wait. Always. If the next one takes years, it’ll be worth it because I’ll get to reread the series and experience it again.

I don’t do comments usually, but I felt the need to after that.

Stellar as always and I loved the progression of the story. It was also a good reminder of how dangerous the world will always be for women, regardless of what the state of the world is. Self-defense classes are officially on the docket for me and my daughters.

The harem is perfection. It’s the first one I can’t pick a favorite. And Avery is amazing. I’m looking forward to the next book, whenever that may be.

Loved it!

Great addition to the Sanctuary series! Loved it! And although the story continues, and it left me looking forward to the next book, I didn’t feel like this book left me hanging with a huge cliffhanger like other book series do, I was satisfied as a reader.

I loved her whole harem of men, can’t really pick one favorite. I even grew to love her new addition. Their cohesiveness as a family unit was wonderful to see. I look forward to reading their next book of adventures. But I do hope for some retribution for Emery’s behavior, I want justice served to her and her admittance of all her lies. And although I want the same for Gia (did I get her name right?) I think Emery has gone unpunished for too long and we need that satisfaction that she faces the consequences of her actions.

Oh I totally knew she would add Zeke to the harem!

I'm devouring this series.

I'm surprised they didn't kill Jade. For everything she had caused, she deserved it.

For the sister and Gianna, and maybe any other bitches, they could totally send them to the bunker.

I love Avary and I adore her men.. every single one of them. I read every book SM writes. She is definitely one of my one Click authors. I don't need to read the blurb to know I'm going to want to read it and that I'm going to love it. I reread her books over and over again because she has such a way of writing her character that draws the reader in from the very first page.. they almost feel like family. Eagerly waiting for book 4. Well deserving of the 5 stars given.

Holy Smokes! Sunny did it again! I haven’t read a single book that didn’t give me all the feels! Life is so unpredictable, and the world in which Avery lives in is too. The one thing that is constant is the love her men have for her. I will wait patiently for the next one because I know it will be worth it. Thank you Sunny for another release from reality and a little hope that there is an Axel and company out there for everyone.
