Meh- if the H is so in love with the h

And we see him pl€@sur€ himself thinking of her, then why does he go to a bar and f OW in the bathroom? 🤔. Yeah. He’s sooooo in love with her 🙄.

Penny (22) just graduated college and doesn’t wanna move back home. Her brother needs to move away for 6 months. Solution? Stay in his apartment with his best friend Jace (27)- she’ll save money and get her own place later.

Jace and Penny used to be close when she was younger, and then he started being an a hole to her. Well duh, he realized he had feeling for her and didn’t wanna mess his friendship with her brother. So he stayed away from her- and became a manhooooar instead. At least she didn’t remain a v all those years (but she’s basically been in love with him for a long time too).

I knew going in that this would be a novella which meant things would be short, but it felt rushed. We were told instead of shown a lot.

I DID like the steam. We get three full 🔥 scenes with the MCs (and one of the H with OW 🤬🤢🥴).

Sigh. I dislike books where the H has been in love with the h and his solution is to f all these women 😐. I’m glad Penny didn’t save herself for this a hole- he doesn’t deserve to be her one and only.

Also, I don’t even remember if he used protection with the OW. It was so rushed and I don’t remember it being mentioned. It’s only mentioned the first time with Penny- not the other times. I hope he’s clean 😑.

Blah 😐. At least it was short. You can sign up for the author’s newsletter to get an epilogue. 😐.

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/omd
-OW- H keeps thinking of h so he f’s some random OW in the bar restroom 🥴🤬 🤢 ON PAGE. This is after he’s masturbated to the h 🙄 but before he and the h do anything. Also, the H’s secretaries flirt with him
-c0nd0m the first time then they’re not mentioned
-no virgins/manwhore H
-no epilogue (HFN?)

nope….DNF

I’m sorry, I hate giving bad reviews, and this may be a great book for someone else but I just can’t stomach books where the guy is in love with the girl but sleeps with someone else “to get her off his mind”. Ugh! It just turns my stomach, so I honestly couldn’t get past that scene. I immediately hated him. So sorry. Just not for me.

At a loose end in her life, Penny is grateful when her older brother offers her a room in his apartment. The problem is Jace - his best friend and Penny’s teenage crush, who for some reason has hated her for the past few years - who also lives in the same apartment. Now they’re roommates, and it’s harder and harder for them to avoid each other - and the real feelings they share.

I didn’t really enjoy this. The writing style was very melodramatic and a lot of the dialogue didn’t scan well for me, it didn’t feel like real things people would say. I mainly struggled, though, because Jace was genuinely awful and quite mean to her. Penny really didn’t deserve any of the harsh way he spoke to her and I had a hard time wrapping my head round why she would be interested in him at all. The book wasn’t really long enough for him to make up for his earlier behaviour, in my opinion. I also thought their relationship was very bland, I didn’t really feel any chemistry between them. It just didn’t work for me at all.

Content Notes:

Content Notes: Brother's best friend / best friend's brother, roommates, forced proximity, hate-to-love.

so much potential

There is a spoiler here, but I have no idea how to explain this without, so fair warning: The two main characters have been in love with each other for years but the H decided it would ruin his friendship. There’s a scene a couple chapters in where literally gets drunk, and hooks up with a random chick he drags into the bathroom at a club a couple days before the relationship with the girl he’s been in love with unfolds. There’s even a few discussions in which he talks about how much of a player he is. It’s one thing in a romance novel if the characters don’t know each other and he’s a reformed hooch, but this guy has been in love with her since high school, knows she’s moving in, and the author thought it fit for him to have a drunken hook up right off. All I could think about the rest of the book was, what if he got an STD from the random bathroom girl and it just ruined the experience for me completely.

Heather Dahlgren wrote another steamy page turner and I highly suggest it!
This book is filled with so much agony it will rip your heart out while you are reading it. Two people who have so many feelings for one another, but are torn between their friendships and bonds they are afraid to act on them, that they would rather hurt each other than the ones around them. How much can they take? How strong can they be? Will they succumb to their desires and watch the walls they built fall? This is a definite must read!!

Terrific! If you are looking for a short, swoony, sweet, romantic, and sexy story with characters you can’t help but love, you want to read Jace and Penny's story. I absolutely loved this book. It's a fast-paced page-turner with characters you will adore. It grabbed me from the beginning. Jace and Penny's romance is delicious, light and easy, scorchingly hot and so undeniably beautiful. Their story is romance deserving of your time.

Brother’s Best Friend

Penny has always loved Jace. Too bad he is her brothers best friends and hates her…. Or so she thinks. Jace has been punishing himself for wanting his best friends sister. After Penny becomes his temporary roommate he finally faces his feelings and realizes he is breaking both their hearts by pushing his feelings aside. Cute quick read with some heat and some brotherly drama included.

You will fall in love with the characters in this book. Jace and Penny have known each other since they were kids. He’s her brothers best friend. They use to be friends until one day Jace changed, it was like he hated her now. So how was she suppose to live with him now? Especially, since she was in love with him.

Great Romance Story

I can never get tired of a well-written story wi untilth two attractive characters fighting their attraction, and failing! That point where they stop fighting it, and just accept what it is, gets me everytime! For most of us, it's simply a fantasy in books, but for the lucky, blessed few, it's the real thing, and it's beautiful! Thanks, Heather!

Jace and Penny have a rough start, his insecurities make him believe he is better off hurting the one person he truly loves. He is jerk for most of the book but I kind of understand having an older brother and how he always warned every friend I was off limits. This books was different but really good.

i confess i was intrigued by a teaser video on tiktok (yes yes y’all, #smuttok is a thing and my algorithm is onto me) and also this was like $1.99 to buy the kindle version and it was still not worth it. that or i’m too square. just lead me gently back to the land of Regency era romance novels, please and thank you.

Gooood

The title of the book does not give justice the content of the story. There are feelings that have grwon trough many years and an attraction waiting to explode. Of course, it is a hot story as well. Great couple and entertaining read!

Love this genre

Brother's best friend is one of my favorites. Penny has loved Jace for as no g as she can remember. Have has fought his feelings for years because of his best friend. Forced proximity brought them together and nothing can tear them apart.

Penny has just finished college and rather than moving home until she finds a job and saves up to move out, her brother offers to have her stay with him and his best friend, Jace. Who Penny thinks hates her and is upset that she’s there.

Turns out, Jace only said what he said years ago to try to keep a distance between them. But now that he knows how much he’s hurt her too, all bets are off. And then her brother comes back from a work trip and finds them together.

Jace and Penny get their happy ending in this stand-alone book.

This book, while engaging, seemed to have a timing problem. Penny’s brother was supposed to be away for six months and it seems like he was only gone for six weeks. And then there wasn’t really an ending to the book, it just all worked out. Yes, there was a bonus epilogue if you signed up for a newsletter, but there wasn’t one to begin with.
