Karrie and the Rock Star: A Second-Chance Rock Star Romance

Rate this book
Why would I, a successful woman, bring a date to a funeral like a psychopath?

Because Finch Mac, the deliciously hot, Scottish, bearded, tattooed, incredibly famous rock star, who was once the love of my life... will be there.

And it’s not to make him jealous. Oh no.

It’s to signal — that I have so moved on.
Totally moved on.
In every way.

Except it’s not always that easy.

Because he and his son are practically a part of my family.

And his baby-mama just died and she was my best friend. And so this funeral will be very very complicated.

And more complicated is how I feel about it all — at some point in the last six years I went from righteous fury to... something that might involve second chances and happy endings.

Because while Finch Mac is dealing with his son, a world tour, and a custody battle,
I’ve been learning about forgiveness and the kind of love that rises above the past.

Karrie and the Rock Star is a full length (55,000 words) contemporary rom-com standalone with a second chances love story.

The book has some of my favorite tropes: cheating, rockstar, second chance, with a hot Scottish hero to sweeten the pot, but it just doesn’t work. Finch Mac (H) lacks substance, so it’s impossible to buy into the romance because we don’t feel that he’s really into Karrie Munro (h). Nor is he very apologetic for destroying her life after cheating with her BFF, Alison, six years prior. A ONS that resulted in a pregnancy and the birth of a son. Alison had practically lived with the Munro family since she was twelve, and was considered to be a sister and daughter, so the betrayal was particularly devastating. Karrie drops out of college and escapes to the west coast after losing both her fiancé and BFF in one fell swoop. She upended her life because of that fateful night, only returning to her hometown to attend Alison’s funeral. The story opens with Karrie awaiting to board the plane to fly home.

I never warmed to Finch. I needed a real glimpse into his mind, his reasonings for cheating, and some actual atonement for hurting his soulmate. But we get none of that. Instead, we’re given Finch’s lackadaisical ramblings, shallow AF inner musings in his POV, and a rushed marriage to Karrie prompted by his desperate need to secure custody of his son, and not because he’s in love with her. I was left doubting his feelings and was suspicious of his intentions until the very end. And, you can’t get a better (or worse?) doormat than Karrie. She’s so good at it that she lets everyone walk all over her. She returns to the bosom of her family only to be subjected to endless lectures from her mom and younger sister who sided with Finch and Alison. She’s practically guilted by her family into forgiving Finch because he made one mistake. WTAF!!! They are all disloyal dumbasses.

Such great opportunities wasted by a mundane story that lacks inspiration and an epilogue. It could have worked if the plot was more cohesive and if we had fully developed MCs who made us believe that their HEA is genuine. My last impression was that Finch can never be trusted.

And, a heads-up: Finch has a strong Scottish accent that is written phonetically, so don’t say you weren’t warned. Enjoy 😉

If YA had a love child with Cringy Instalove it would be this book. Im not sure what to say so Im just gonna talk about the characters.

Karrie- AKA herione who constantly beat herself up for selfishly not forgiving the baby mama and the H 6 years earlier🤦‍♀️ oh the shame

Finch- The hero. He was ok, even though he had very cringy eye rolling dirty talk

Alison- AKA the baby mama that everyone turned into a saint because she died. Spoiler alert I did not like her and she was not saintly.

h's mom- let's just say I'm glad she's not my mom and leave it at that

Tessa- Ironic I know, the h's sister who was a judgmental, guilt tripping j3rk.

Arlo- the child that's barely on page.

3 at least I finished it stars

Not sure what I just read

I read some of the other reviews and hoped that they were wrong. They were not. I believe in forgiveness, but only to people who want to be forgiven. The H/BFF/ h family, they all just acted like hurting someone is ok. Sorry, I hurt you, get over it. Life does not work that way. I just couldn’t get over the h lack of support from people who claim they love her. Sorry, I just can’t recommend this book.

Finch and Karrie
Low angst cheating story just about sums this one up. Also I personally don’t get into using heavy Dialects in the dialogue … it never reads well in my brain. The H is Scottish. So childhood sweethearts promise to marry each other then when the h is unavailable to
Comfort her abused bff the H uses his dick to comfort her. She gets preggers and the h leaves town. The h’s family adopts the cheating H and the cheating bff. Then about 7 years down the road the bff has cancer. The h’s family takes care of her. She dies and the h goes to her funeral. She hasn’t spoken to the rockstar cheater H in all those years. She definitely wasn’t a doormat. So
We have the reconnect.The h has a sweet family BUT they seem more centered on the cheaters. So finally h marries H to keep
The government from giving custody of the H’a 6 yo son to the dead ow’s known abusive Mother. Plus they’re in love. This had a lot of potential thus 3 stars but it really dropped the ball
On the angst .

What in the nonsense is this? get yourself an editor STAT. Chaotic.

This is how they think a Scottish man thinks: “We had grown up taegether and it had led tae trust, tae hae a woman who ye trusted so much that ye could touch her in need and for pleasure and she allowed ye, and tae in turn, tae ken she was yers, only yers, I had never known someone so trustworthy since — what had I done?”

Absolutely not. Her family were so weird basically guilt tripping her into forgiving them and making out like she was the bad one for holding a grudge.

I learned from an episode of Oprah years ago that we forgive to save ourselves, not others...so it must be true,right,lol? No actually, from personal experience I have found it is indeed self protective.Our heroine here eventually discovers this,the answer to 6 years of pain and angst.
The flagrant episode of selfish infidelity on the part of the H and bf is jarring.Motivations are eventually discussed, the bf aim to get pregnant and her rationale made sense but was no less ragey.For the H,insufficient as usual,caught in the moment,ruled by his little brain.He admits he doesn't really like Allison. However,I did intuit his remorse,love for Karrie and his regard for Allison simply related to his respect for her as his baby mama.His grief at her passing more for his son's loss.
Some reviews state he only marries her for custody of his son,that he doesn't really love Karrie. My response,six years of songs inspired by her and minimal relationships \interaction with females would say otherwise.As would how quickly they were able to breakdown walls and gel.As for her family,I felt their humanity and kindness and support towards the cheaters years after the event,to be indicative of the size of their hearts and not a betrayal to Karrie.
Overall I appreciated the angsty goodness and the redemption they find together as a family!

Torn

I'm torn in regard to the book. First it jumps back and forth between past and present with the same chapter with no warning.

I found Karrie's character to be very childish for half the book. Maybe even more than half. She is so determined to hate him but then she agrees to marry him and all is forgotten. It just didn't flow for me. Read it give the book a chance. Maybe you will think different.

So Karrie's damaged friend who was taken in by her family with kindness and love randomly screws her soulmate (who was sent to rescue her from toxic parents) for seemingly no good reason beyond wanting to have what karrie has AND then gets pregnant to trap him, only to then get dropped off at another guys house...and we're supposed to act like that wasn't vicious and manipulative?

Then, to add insult to injury, the family chooses to defend and befriend the young woman who wrecked so much havoc in their child's life...wow...just wow...families like this, who needs enemies...there wasn't enuf real character development and clear motivations behind the behavior to justify all of the betrayals...Karrie needed the compassion (reserved only for Allison) from her own mother who's more wrapped up in caring for sad, destructive Allison and famous Finch than her daughter who obviously is very talented and gifted but gives up pursuing her dreams because the lesson her family's betrayal taught her is that she's just not that valuable.

DNF... because watching Karrie be punished for experiencing such profound betrayals to only get used in service of other people's desires is actually enraging...

Interesting premise. The blurb and other reviews give the main devastating details. Young rock star screws h’s best friend resulting in pregnancy and ruined relationship. The h’s family sort of diminished the angst level with their absolute goodness and love of fellow man. And I’m not here for the fellow man aspects, I am here for the angst!! 😁

A part of this book that was so distracting for me was the H’s Scottish accent. He has lived in the states since he was….12-ish. His accent was written with such a heavy brogue and I just wasn’t buying it, given that’s he’s in his later twenty’s in the story. I feel like at least some parts of his accent would have been Americanized with the passage of time.

3.25! For a infidelity or cheating story it was very low on the angst. I didn’t capture me with the situation of how and why he cheated. But for a forgiveness story it was okay. I thought the ending was a little much, but it kind of fit their dynamic.

Could have been so much better. I needed more details. The ending was HEA but I couldn’t figure out how it could have happened. Forgiveness is big in this book.

3.5 stars. The writing was good. It was extra neat and tidy up until the end. These characters had heart's of gold because I was still left wanting when it came to the cheating. Why? Because there was no rhyme or reason for Finch to have cheated on Karrie. His and Allison's excuse which wasn't to be seen was ridiculous. He had just had an argument with Karrie and Allison was having abandonment issues so she decides to throw herself at Finch knowing she would hurt her bff/sister from another mother. Finch was only thinking with his dick. He asked her if she was on the pill after, and she said no. Now drive me to Dylan's. Which I'm assuming was her boyfriend at the time. See the purposefulness there? Why not f*** Dylan? Then she becomes pregnant. Finch later tells Karrie Allison probably did it because she wanted a baby and didn't want to be alone. I must be the only one because I was irritated with this issue. Allison would have known the hurt she would cause knowing how much Karrie loved Finch. Sorry not giving an inch here. So much selfishness on both parties. It's understandable how Karrie held a grudge til the end when Allison dies. Her family even took care of Allison and her kid for the 6 yrs Karrie was gone. She's showing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Finch is paying for everything. Yes, she dies and it's sad, but still I had no love for her. Then there's the relationship between Finch and Karrie... They weren't convincing me they were soulmates and forever in love. Their chemistry wasn't convincing whatsoever 🤷. I don't care how many song's he wrote about her.

Basically this book is about forgiveness which I'm having a hard time with 😂.

Nice Patriarchial Parable Where The Cheater Gets Loved And Adored Because The Dude Was And The Bullied Heroine, Who Can't See It, Must Accept Shame For Having Boundaries.

He doesn't even react to another woman touching him. Doesn't even feel guilty. Finch is boke.

Nice Wee Patriarchial Parable of Communal Narcissists Where The Malignant Narcissist Gets Everything, Never Regrets Anything.

Its interesting that forgiveness is always he just never has to actually confront what he did, he just gets to love bomb until its ok but she "healed".

Ok, thats how some women feed.

This woman still uses terms like Vrginity which is an unreal concept.

Nice patriarchial parable.

Its interesting where people pretend they can accidentally sleep with someone.

I had hoped it had all turned out to be a misunderstanding but no we really were reading a story that justified Alison using everyone around her because she was lucky enough to have a rich popular mans baby.

Its cute but he did what he did.

He hot an erection for someone else while in a relationship with the love of his life.

And all the time it was her that had the accept the blame the entire book.

Boys will be boys.

And in a post-Roe v Wade world its going to get worse.

And they will dip dip dip this communal narcissistic familys habits.

Actions speak louder and Alison got them all.

Even got to read all about their seediness.

Too bad.

"Love" is not getting it up for a crying woman.

Boke.

Alison and Finch chose and they all chose them.

I picked this up because it was free on Audible, and I was in the mood for a rock star romance. I hadn’t read anything by Diana Knightley before, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Karrie was a great main character. She felt real, her emotions made sense, and I completely understood where she was coming from. I liked being in her head and seeing how she handled everything. As for Finch, well, he’s Scottish, so he’s already got that appeal, but I do think he could’ve put in more effort to make things right. Their dynamic felt believable, especially from Karrie’s point of view. There was a lot of pain and history between them, and it showed.

Karrie’s family really got under my skin. Yes, they helped Allison (Karrie’s best friend and Finch’s baby mama) through her illness, but that doesn’t mean they needed to guilt Karrie into putting her very valid feelings aside. It felt like they wanted her to just forgive and move on without really acknowledging the depth of the betrayal she went through. It came off a bit unfair, and the pressure they put on her to forgive and forget rubbed me the wrong way.

The custody storyline raised some questions. Finch is a famous rock star, so it didn’t quite make sense that he couldn’t just hire full-time help instead of relying so heavily on Karrie. And the legal situation with Allison’s mother seemed a bit glossed over, especially considering her drinking problem and Allison's wishes about her son with Finch. Why wasn't Finch automatically taking Arlo full-time? I wish that part had been explored more.

This book reminded me a lot of Forever My Girl by Heidi McLaughlin — same sort of setup with the funeral, reconnection, and a child involved. The voice was strong, and the story kept me engaged. There were some funny moments too, especially with Karrie’s sister and the t-shirt cannon.

The pacing was steady until the final stretch. Everything wrapped up a bit too quickly for me — Karrie went from holding onto years of pain to suddenly being all in again, and it felt a little rushed.

What the hell is wrong with the people in Karries live?
I feel like the only sane person in this book ist her father and that is just because the only things he say are jokes.
Why would every person from her hometown make her feel bad about holding a grudge about her fiance CHEATING with her BESTFRIEND!!!
I think the only reason I am so mad is because this story had potential. The tropes are good, the first half of the story too. But then it feels like the author tried to rush the ending. Why would Karrie marry her cheating ex after only having a single conversation with him in six years. Oh yes, to help a child she met twice. And by marrying I don't mean the "marriage of convinience"-way we know from romance books. Of cause not. Why wouldn't they start admiting they loved each other all these years and suddenly forgive all wrong doing. Plus the way they decided to get marryied felt very manipulative. MMC telling Karrie she kind of needed to because she promised hin 10 years ago!?!??
Plus a few things I just personaly hate in books:
1. The FMC having a found family in an other city but totaly forgetting about them and telling people they have nothig that keeps them there. And of course giving it all up for the convinience of the MMC.
2. The FMC having had a job they enjoy for years only for the MMC to convince them they never followed their dreams.
Well all in all this book made me weirdly mad so I needed to let this out.

Karrie and the Rock Star

Diana is so good at creating characters who make the reader feel what they feel. I spent the first third of the book hating Finch and Allison for Karrie’s sake. But also dying to know Finch’s version of the story!

It was so refreshing to read a book that didn’t include the typical misunderstanding about 80% through the book. Once Karrie and Finch start making contact with each other again, that’s all there is to it.

The best parts, though, were the little Easter Eggs that connected this story to Diana’s other main stories, Kaitlyn and the Highlander and Liam and Blakely! But nothing could have prepared me for the plot twist at the end! (I mean, I feel like I should have seen it coming based on the Easter Eggs given but I was not prepared!

Don’t miss out on this amazing story and everything else Diana has written!!

2⭐️⭐️

This book is the perfect example of manipulation.
Every character here acts trying to get the upper hand. The MFC was wronged by fiancé and bff. The guy’s rationalization was that since the bff had abandonment issues, she thought having a baby with the MMC would make her a permanent thing between him and the MFC. What? 😳 and it was said in a way to excuse her betrayal. And his of course.

Then, the MFC’s family was super present with the bff because she came from an abuse home and then fell ill and they loved her. But the mom never wanted to choose. What? And she was called “Nan” by the boy the bff and the boyfriend had.

And of course, the MFC accepts that she was childish and horrible because she did not forgave them earlier. Pffff

I finished reading because I commit to the books. But it was long and unnecessary.

At first I had mix feelings about this one. I'm a die hard fan of the Kaitlyn and the Highlander series from Ms. Knightley (really all her books). And I worried this wouldn't be as good. It has nothing to do with it....so I thought. And I liked the Vella novel Ms. Knightley did on Amazon (this I did know had something to do with it)....though it was way too short. But now I'm getting it. They all seem to be coming together and it's so fun. So if you read and liked any of the Kaitlyn books or even this one or the Blakely and Liam Vella then read the rest. It's a blast to see them all fitting together. And as with most of her books it's also funny...plus you may even cry a tad. Either way it's just plain fun.

loved.

This book seriously had me in tears. I felt so bad for everyone. Karrie, Lydia, Finch, but especially Arlo. Losing Allison was hard on all of them each for a different reason. What Finch and Allison did to Karrie was unforgivable but sometimes you have to forgive to move forward. Karrie missed that complete forgiveness with Allison but learn how to forgive and move forward with Finch. I can say I would not have been able to do that. And bless Arlo’s heart losing his mom so young. My heart hurt for him. But let me say seeing Finch and Karrie work through it all was great. Loved it.

~~~”I Daena Ken” book exert
So who thought it was a good idea to write the text in “scottish accent?” It really made reading his chapters painful. Plot where the female was supposed to “get over” her best friend having sex (and a baby) with her fiancé was frustrating. And her family embraced the cheater and her ex bestie as they “were not going to take sides.” Really? How is there even a question of what side to take? Her family should have had her back and been more loyal Instead of referring to his cheating as a “mistake” she needed to forget and “move on”. I did not even finish this book.
Really was a great story
I had read some of the reviews , some were good others felt the story wasn't that well written. I personally liked it, it reminded me of my on family experiences. I came from a big family and in this family there were always some type of turmoil going on. This book shows love can conquer all , it is well worth the read. Diana Knightley us a very good author she keeps you wanting more, page after page . It was hard not to keep reading when it was bed time. I recommend this book with a 5 Stars Review
This was a cool read. I felt Karrie was right in her righteous anger against Finch and Alison. What did they expect, that she’d stick around while Allison and Finch got together and raised their son and they’d all still be friends?? I still don’t get her family’s obsession with still keeping in touch with Allison after the betrayal with Finch such that even they helped her raise Finch’s son. I’m glad she moved away from them. Talk about disloyalty. The wedding and getting back together was so rushed though Finch and Karrie were kinda cute.
I am in LOVE with all of these characters
Diana Knightly has done it again!
This story grabs you right out of the gate, and walking that path of estrangement, angst, understanding and then forgiveness with all the wonderful characters. I will forever think of my mom when I see glue now. You will laugh and cry with Karrie, Finch and her family, I can’t wait for the next book. Thank you Diana for sharing your wonderful storytelling talent with everyone.
Love all the books
I read all of Magnus books that also follow a pattern of Outlander. Woman has miscarriage, finally has daughter, bitch has son. I would have liked to have Finch's point of view. He asked her how many guys but she didn't ask him how many women kinda of a nervy question that he asked of her. What her friend did with her boyfriend was trust breaking and I can't see how that would come back so quickly. Can't wait for another book.
Are kidding me? Do author's hate their female protagonists? Is that why they Subject them to mental and emotional abuse from family who they should be able to rely on? The guilt tripping of the cheated on female MC from everyone was sickening. Her bf and BFF betrayed her, hey they were forgiven and given sainthood? Please stop promoting forgiveness for toxic people who do not earn it! Also, the Scottish dialogue was horrific and stereotypical.
