The Voyagers Of Hell - Sober Rodrigues
We have heard a whole lot of stories about the afterlife, hell, and heaven since our childhood. They have been told either as religious beliefs or as a way to guide someone on what is right and wrong and where they will end up based on their actions. But what if someone wants to return to Earth from hell in human form to fulfill their unfinished deeds? Sounds interesting, right?
The Voyagers of Hell is a story about the journey of four strangers, Ritvik, Anuj, John, and Abdul, who find themselves dead and wake up in hell. All four of them have endured terrible punishments for their sins, and they have experienced immense grief and remorse. Finally, they have suffered enough and are sent to heaven. But they each have something lingering in their minds and a motive to return to Earth, and they know of a way.
To get back to Earth, they must overcome all three stages of hell. Initially, it seems like an easy task, but they soon realise the chaos and struggles throughout their journey, making it extremely dangerous and impossible. The rest of the story revolves around their adventures, their treacherous journey, and the bond of friendship they form in the toughest of times. Did they get past the stages of hell and get back to earth as they wished, or did they get trapped in hell? Read and find out.
The book starts off excellently, and the writing is simple and easy to read. Descriptive writing vividly portrays the image of hell, and the narrative of different stages of hell and the sufferings endured by the souls in each stage is intriguing and creepy. I also love the way he incorporates the mythical legends we already know from different religions, like Adam and Eve, and relates them to his plot. I expected a detailed back story for each character that was a bit disappointed. Though the middle part of the book is a bit stretched and monotonous, the ending is satisfying. Overall, it is a good read with descriptive writing and an unusual and intriguing plot.
