Being close to godhood sounds nice but it's anything but easy. A last, powerful rival stands in the way not only of the V&V empire but against all creation. Vainqueur has to remind her and the gods themselves who is Best Dragon.
What a wonderful conclusion to a truly insane and ridiculous adventure. The ending was easy to guess, it was setup with book one and was to be expected, considering the fact that this is a LitRPG. But there were still some twists and turns that I didn't expect, as well as some surprising emotional moments. Not to mention that the journey itself, not just in this book, but the whole series, was one wild fucking ride from start to finish.
Looking back on book one and how it all started, it's amazing to see just how much the story, plot and in particular, the world building, had progressed. The world progression was such an unexpected high point of this series for me. It truly evolved and kept developing, for better or for worse, all things considered.
By the end, I was met with that melancholic and (for me at least) rare feeling of sadness because I knew the adventure was coming to an end. I would've loved to continue reading about Vainqueur and Victor; they were such delightful characters, alongside their ridiculous friends and companions. This universe was so easy and fun to be a part of that I feel like I could have easily read a dozen more books in it.
This series gave me so many great laughs, smiles and an absolute Truck-kun load of Kindle highlights that I'm gonna have to go through later and sort. I really hope that the author writes a spin off, or maybe even a sequel at some point; I would read that in a heartbeat.
To finish it off, if you're looking for an absolutely mad adventure involving dragons and pretty much every species known (and unknown) to man with a bunch of crazy humor, zaney characters and over the top scenes and events, I seriously cannot recommend this series enough. It was such a joy to read, and just so much fun to experience with every book.
An amazing finale to a years-long journey: ultimate artifacts get equipped, epic battles get fought, final levels get reached,
All in all, an unforgettable tale of growth, hoards, dragons and minions: with well-developed world building, genre parodies and subversions aplenty, a good dosage of humor, and the narrative craftiness to pack an emotional Victory Fist when needed.
A good enough ending for a series that started incredibly great and fizzled out to "averagism" levels with each new installment.
In my comments for the first book I was writing that Vaniqueur carried the whole story. By gradually adding a ton of characters throughout the follow-up books, his time to shine diminished and likewise the epicness of the series. I've seen the exact same thing happening with the "Apocalypse Tamer" series. The initial book of that series was also epic fun, and then suffered the same fate of crumbling into chaos, as did Vainqueur by the third book
Read the first book. It's one of the best LitRPG of its time.
During the month of February, I picked up Vainqueur the Dragon on Amazon, since it was a book I had wanted to read for a long long while after hearing of it on Discord. As time went by, I finished each book one after the other, loving every single moment, laughing at every joke, rooting for the protagonists (And the dragons of course!) writing down any ideas that came to me for Fanfiction whenever I could, and generally having the best time reading through the books.
Well... before I knew it, I reached the fourth and final book.
I didn't realize how scary it was until I reached the 80 percent mark. I knew the books would end eventually, but... I didn't want it to end, and unlike the last few books, this ending made me cry so hard... The way everything came together, as the story drew to a close and the main conflict was solved (and a bunch of other things you'll have to read to find out about!) along with how emotional it all was... I had to stop.
Tonight I sit in bed, writing this review, after finally finishing this book series. I've read a few dragon books and this one... This one is one of my favorites. The mix of fantasy, humor, and romance, along with jokes and a wonderful storyline, it's definitely a book I will be returning to someday.
This has been a journey... We went from a prideful, arrogant, narcissistic dragon with a mountain full of gold... To a dragon GOD with the entire WORLD as their hoard... With all their pride, arrogance, and narcissism still intact, despite everything.
I will never forget Vainqueur and the adventures he and his lackey and friend have gone on, and I hope others feel the same about this amazing book. Maxime J. Durand, if you are reading this...
This series went from an "eh" first book to a "fantastic" last book to end the series. I found myself more invested in each book as the story progressed and became very invested in the characters. This series has landed solidly in my top 3-5 favorite series.
This was the perfect ending to the series in every way and I LOST MY SH*T laughing when the Elder Wyrm was reveled. I found myself sad that the series ended, but think the author did the characters justice by doing so. Besides, the ending was definitely opened for the characters to make appearances elsewhere.
I also love how the author did a small "wrap up" of the fate of each ancillary character at the end of the book. It provided closure and wrapped up any loose ends without dragging on the story longer than it should be. Well done.
Overall great series with a fantastic last book. Mad props to the author.
This whole thing is completely bonkers. Insane. Lost the plot. The series is like an ongoing in-joke - the kind of thing you'd read because your friend had written it, and so you're not too fussed about coherence or the occasionally shonky English. It's honestly meme-worthy, while at the same time, you'd probably never recommend it to anyone you knew - so you're the only one who will ever understand why you keep saying 'moon' as though it had 18 o's, or talking about the interdimensional soul-trading market.
I'm still unsure why I started reading this series, or why I continued to pay money for the following books - but I feel things that I did. Moreover, I'll say that this fourth book was a satisfying ending to the series.
Audiobook review: This started out very, very slow and I really didn't like it. I was quite disappointed that the series had ended so poorly but it really picked up in the middle and I thoroughly enjoyed the ending. I'm glad it's the last book in the series as the sheer number of characters had started to get out of hand and I lost track a bit of some of the more minor side characters.
The voice effects in the narrator were a little OTT in some places too. Made it harder to hear what was being said occasionally, especially when the volume drops suddenly.
I would still recommend this and the series but the author picked a good spot to end on.
From 1 to 100 levels in 4 books, now complete. Our little (rather large) dragon has finished his adventures with his little minion, Victor.
I honestly thought this was a pretty great capstone. Epic battle against the Fae, the domination of the whole world, godhood. It's all here and satisfying as one gigantic RPG satire AND humorous adventure.
No complaints. Just fun.
Personal note: If anyone reading my reviews is be interested in reading my SF (Very hard SF, mind you), I'm open to requests.
Just direct message me in goodreads or email me on my site. I'd love to get some eyes on my novels.
All hail Vainquer Knightsbabe. First of his name. Greatest calamity of all ages, Emperor of the world and the Albion mountains, Minion Liberator of the Pirate Sea, Conquistador of Port Damne and El Goldorado, Goldbeard, Savior of the Dodo race, Vanquisher of the Vile forgotten one, Ender of Mel Odieuse the Hateful one, Tanker of 3 Nuclear arrows of light, Host to the best bragging day ever, Master of the Minions, the only one Wotan DragonBane ever feared, Bane of all things Lunar, Monster Poker Grandmaster, Exterminator of the dreaded Gold Eating Insects, and in general “Best Dragon.” Long may he reign
The last in the series Vainqueur the Dragon IV: The Last Adventure culminates in a showdown which has been years in the making. Pitting himself (and his Minions) against a threat which could spell the end of not only his hoard but the hoards of every dragon on the planet. The level of character development which the draconic protagonist has undergone since the first book, from only caring about himself and his hoard, to caring about himself, his hoard, his minions and even turning enemies into allies while maintaining the level of arrogance only a dragon could muster.
Definitely a tongue in cheek series. The entire series is a satire about a dragon who learned they can level up and an accidental minion that at first was just trying to survive but ended up being a main character. This series had me grinning ear to ear at multiple points. It's not for those looking for an extremely serious series with realistic drama.
This entire series is making fun of D&D culture and RPGs as a whole. It's a funny story that will give you a few genuine smiles and leave you thinking "That was pretty funny."
Really good! Besides the second book, this one is my favorite. I think the only parts I didn’t like was the climax. In the multi chapter final battle, this story became what it was a parody (and satire) of. The YA Shonen idealistic heroism aspects went on for far too long to be a joke and, to me, really clashed with the rest of the book. I can easily see other people really enjoying it for exactly that reason though.

Book 4 is a light 6/10. Copying this from my combo review from book 3 when this posting for book 4 didn't exist. There's less novelty in the final book but they were still fun. The ending is fine but the sincere angle to the relationship b/w dragon and guy becomes a bit repetitive. Same with the lead guy. Leveling and gear also became repetitive. Seeing the new areas was cool but it was kind of shallow. The villain school was nice though.

All of the books after the first one were a little bit disappointing, not because they were bad, but because the first one was so good. The final installment is just that, a good book but not a great one. Tom out
Another 4.5. Well done, and as the author said, best to end things before they get stale. I did particularly like the (literal) plot armour. It's a semi-goofy series, and I like the balance of that with character development that was maintained for most of the series.
One always worries with series... will the fruit die on the vine? Can the author pull it off??!!? Well he did and it was a great series. Sacrificed too many obligations to read this guilty pleasure. Well done and like Vic I must get to work
I went from charmed at the idea of this series but no quite sure about it a quarter way into the first book to a fan by the end of it and in love with it by the end of this one. A perfect ending to the series.
Pretty good finish to this series. Overall I thought it was pretty good but not Maxime's best work. I enjoyed it though and there was definitely some decent comedy in there.
Bravo! What an ending! And what a ride it has been. Absolutely recommended for any fantasy, litrpg, humor fans. Every character a banger. Every plot sweaty. To the mooOoOoooOooonnnnn
