From romance novelist Maureen Driscoll comes a Christmas story about the magic of true love...
Harry Lundin has been leading a secret life ever since he was twenty-five years old. He just doesn't know it. For the past seven years, he and thousands of others have been transported to the North Pole two nights before Christmas where they work as part-time elves, doing last-minute tasks before Santa makes his deliveries. When Harry and the others are at the North Pole, they remember nothing of their outside lives and before they leave their memories are wiped clean, so they remember nothing about the workshop when they get back home.
Harry strikes up a friendship with his North Pole co-worker Kelly Simpson and at the end of each shift, they pledge to remember each other in the outside world, but never manage to do so. Then one year, Harry's memory is only partially erased. He finds Kelly, but she doesn't remember a thing. Now it's up to Harry to convince her they really are meant to be together.
PART-TIME ELVES is a stand-alone story about finding, losing and fighting for your soulmate.

Part-Time Elves is one of the most original holiday novellas that I've read yet. This story of Christmas magic and finding one's true love kept me interested and turning the pages.
For the past seven years, Harry and Kelly have been among thousands of part-time elves that are secretly swept away to the North Pole for just one night, two nights before Christmas. Teamed together every year, they form a friendship and fall in love. Unfortunately, once they're sent back home, they're sprinkled with magic dust that makes them forget all of their North Pole memories and each other. Determined to find each other, they fail year after year, until one night Harry's memory is only partially erased. He finds Kelly, but she doesn't remember him, and he needs to find a way to make her realize that they're meant to be together before his memories are wiped for good.
I really enjoyed this storyline as it is so different from any holiday stories that I've read. There were a few celebrity sightings that I could have done without (although they did make me laugh at times), but I was really more invested in the budding romance between these two "elves". As the story progressed, I really wasn't sure where the story was headed and how it was really going to end. It had me guessing right up until the last moment. If you're looking for a different take on a holiday romance, I highly recommend this one.
This was a fun, romantic and different type of story. The premise is that beginning at age 25 everyone is subjected to becoming a "part-time" elf in Santa's workshop. People are randomly chosen and essentially abducted to work in Santa's workshop one night of the year, every year. When they are there, they don't remember who they are or anything about their lives in the world. When they leave they don't remember what happened at Santa's workshop until they return the next year. When two of these people meet and are assigned to work together they develop feelings for each other. They decide they will remember each other, but the elves erase their memories every year. Back in the world they run into each other but never connect.
I really enjoyed this story and loved the way the author wove real elements into her story. Her fantasy of eating as much as you want and never gaining any weight while at the north pole was fun. Wouldn't we all love to visit such a place and indulge to our hearts content without consequences? The love story was sweet and unfolded over time which I loved. The characters were delightful. I recommend this little novella to anyone.
I loved everything about this wonderfully romantic and imaginative story. Great writing with smart, funny, lovable characters…it’s the RomCom you can’t put down!
A fun Christmas read that could be so much better with a little more care and time put into it.
Part-Time Elves reads a bit like a cross between a movie script and a novel-in-progress, and I wonder if it was something author Maureen Driscoll rushed to publish for the holidays. If she had spent a little more time on it, I think things like the chemistry between our two romantic leads, the dialogues, and even certain parts that are included (not really sure why the Prologue was necessary), would have been more developed and better written.
In the end material, Driscoll talks about how this book came from a fun idea, and you can definitely tell she's having a lot of fun describing a Santa's workshop that's like working at a regular place but with unlimited food that will never make you full or fat, and coworkers from all sorts of backgrounds, including random celebrities.
But I think there was so much potential to go deeper, and I wish it had.
Overall, this is a fun, light, quick holiday read. I also think it's a story that's begging to be made into a Hallmark or Disney Christmas movie. If that ever happens, I'd definitely watch it!
A Surprisingly Hilarious Yet Heartwarming Christmas Romance
There was so much to like about this story. I enjoyed both the main characters Harry (Pinecone) and Kelly (Holly), as well as many of the secondary characters. I laughed at so many scenes, and yet couldn’t help but cry at one particular part of the story.
Great world-building at Santa’s Workshop. I loved that the benefits included breaks with the most delicious food and drinks where the calories don’t count, as well as great celebrity entertainment on stage by the part-time elves. Loved the rapid fire and sometimes snarky dialogue between the characters. Fun stuff.
