When Kate had to move back to her hometown with her then 5 year old son to help out with her elderly parents, she didn't think she'd wind up stuck in the small town indefinitely. But here she is. Now Kate finds herself constantly juggling a million balls - mother, employee, dog walker, house cleaner, daughter, friend - and all of them are falling to the ground. But she refuses to take help, continuing to work herself to the ground to better the life of her son.
He refuses to make a connection.
Seven years ago, Dean Fulton changed his life completely, avoiding any and all connections to protect himself. He goes to a new camp every summer and a new mountain every winter, working with kids and traveling across the country. But when he lands in Springbrook Hills, he starts to form connections with the crew, even getting dragged into staying to coach the Pee Wee football team.
When Dean breaks up a fight between Kate's son Callum and a bully, he instantly is drawn to the kid - and his mom.
Can Dean force Kate to let him in and accept his help? Can Kate (and Cal) break down Dean's walls and show him the life he's missing? The Connection is a contemporary brother's best friend romance. It's book four in the Springbrook Hills series, but can be read as a standalone.
It is a full-length romance with a Happily Ever After that features sexually explicit material and profanity. This book is intended for 18+
Morgan is a born and raised Jersey girl, living there with her two boys, toddler daughter, and mechanic husband. She’s addicted to iced espresso, barbecue chips, and Starburst jellybeans. She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.
Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.
I’m so grateful you’ve agreed to take this journey with me.
thank you so much to morgan for the arc!! i have been LOVING the springbrook hills universe and this book was so cute! kate is a single mom to 7 year old cal! (who btw we get to see his pov a few times throughout the book) kate is running herself ragged when she meets dean, cals camp counselor and later football coach. you can tell from the start there is definitely interest on deans end he just needed to break down kate’s walls a bit. dean had a lot of self growth he needed to work on throughout the book and by the end we do see that. the “third act breakup” was not my fave… but i could see it coming and understood why it happened. overall this was super cute and i cant wait for the next in the series!! (p.s. i loved seeing all my fave characters from the other books)
I should of known I wouldn't enjoy this as I don't usually like books with the single parent trope, but the last book I read with that trope was 5 stars so I suppose I had some hope that this would match it.
I hated the main characters (including the kid);I wanted to like them but I just couldn't.
Dean, I despised his character to the point where I started biting my nails to stop from shouting at my phone. He was this male character that is supposed to be this fun loving alpha dude that I was supposed to like but I hated every single moment he was on the page.
And Kate was supposed to be this strong single mum that has a hard time letting people in, yet Dean literally was butting in and making decisions for her kid and speaking over and demeaning her authority with her own kid, it just made me scream.
And then there's the kid (Cal) I don't think I have ever hated a kid character this much in my entire time reading. It's not even that he's an 8 year old boy because some of my favourite kid characters that age that are actually good to read about. He's supposedly super protective of his mum yet is completely fine with a stranger coming in and taking over.
Not even the sex scenes could save this even though they were hot, it just wasn't enough. And then the epilogue actually made me hate the characters even more.
But I will say that while I despised this book, the author isn't bad and I enjoyed the previous books in this series. But I'm definitely taking a break from reading anymore of her work for a while.
4⭐️ 3🌶 Kate is a single mom to a cute 7 year old boy, and after her son gets into a fight at summer camp, she meets his new camp counselor, Dean. Dean is a wanderer, never staying in one place longer than a season of camp or skiing in the winter. Yet when Kate and Dean cross paths, all of Deans plans start to change as he falls more and more for her and her precious son.
I thought this was a super cute addition to the series and really appreciated Morgan sending me an ARC. I loved the single parent trope, and the found family, and thought Dean was great. There were points where the story felt a bit redundant or repetitive, without a real purpose, however I thought the last 25% with the conflict and HEA that ensues was actually done really well and had me captured! Overall a fun and spicy read!
this book is book 4 in the series, but can be read as a stand alone!!
i had the privilege of receiving “the connection” by morgan elizabeth as an ARC, making this my second ARC read for morgan. honestly, each time i read one of her pieces - i like the writing style more and more.
this book focuses on single-mom kate hernandez, who moved back to her small-town with her young son callum to help take care of her elderly parents. she works her ASS off - constantly doing random jobs, working nights at the bar, making sure cal gets to and from camp and school. the single mom trope is personal for me, because I was callum. I grew up constantly worrying about my Mom, and doing things (such as not telling her about sleepovers or birthdays or sports) because I knew it would be difficult for her. i honestly related to this story WAY more than I originally thought - and the few lil chapters in Callums POV were just *chefs kiss*. anyways, cal ends up getting into a fight at camp where drifter, wanderer, and the hot camp counselor dean swoops in. dean calls kate to give the run-down and asks her to come in to the office where he quite literally “meets the most beautiful woman he knows.”
dean realizes that in the 7 years of going places for a few months, shying away from any meaningful connection, he finally has someone, someones, that could break that cycle. he forces his way into kates life, he takes things off her plate, helps her with callum, and becomes someone that they both depend on. until he is a typically MAN AND MESSES THINGS UP. i won’t spoil too much more, but i liked this book a lot and i’ve grown fond of these characters.
(based on my assumptions i think there will be one more book that focuses on sadie and zander, i see it happening and will MANIFEST THAT STORY LINE).
this was nothing special. love interest annoyed me so much at times, like how r u gonna ruin everything and then wonder where u went wrong?? his behavior is not adding up..
This fucking book WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. it made me laugh it made me cry I LOVED THESE CHARACTERS I LOVE THIS LITTLE TOWN. I want to live in this book 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Holy crap! I genuinely don’t even know where to begin. This is my first time ARC reading and I am so freaking thankful that it was The Connection. I have had the pleasure of previously reading the three prior books in the series and this one did not disappoint. Kate and Dean are so freaking hot. The chemistry between them was unbelievable.
Kate is a strong single mother of 7 year old Cal, who were both forced to move back permanently due to Kate’s ailing mother. We start off seeing how both Kate and Cal are struggling in their everyday life in Kate’s hometown, but the thing that stood out to me from the beginning was how strong their bond clearly was from the first page. I’ve read too many books where the kid resents their single parent, or purposely tries to make things difficult to act out and get attention. But from the start, Cal is nothing but supportive and loving, and truly understanding of how hard his mom was working and how much she was sacrificing to give him a good life. The two meet Counselor Dean after a fight at summer camp, and damn do they leave an impression on each other. From the beginning, no matter how many times he tries to deny it, you can tell that Dean is going to fall… hard. But he fights so hard not to, and watching him go through that struggle is gut-wrenching. Dean’s backstory broke my heart, but it pulled me to the character in such a real way that it hurt. The relationship that’s built, not only between Dean and Kate, but also between Dean and Cal, made my heart melt. He becomes such an important and beautiful figure in Cal’s life at a time where he needed him most. This story was so beautifully constructed and written that I could not have asked for anything more. It broke my heart and melded the pieces back together again multiple times, and I think it might just be my favorite of the series so far….which is saying a lot.
And the Smut is just so damn good. Time and time again Morgan hits the nail on the head with these scenes, making me ache for these men to exist in our world. They are hot and sexy, but so damn unnerving and real. I recommend this book 100% and will gladly be the first in line for Morgan’s next masterpiece.
I started this book late one night, and it had me bawling my eyes out around 2 AM. Super cute, small-town, single mom romance. Kate is our single mom with her son Callum, and she's working her butt off to provide for him and be the best mom she can be. She has friends that help her out, but she really doesn't like to ask for help. Enter our main male character: Dean. He works at the summer camp Cal is currently going to and ends up being one of Cal's pewee football coaches when Cal decides to play for the team. He instantly cares for both Cal and Kate and enters their lives to help Kate out when he can, but he can't help but catch feelings and become more than just a friend to both of them. However, Dean's past has always kept him moving from place to place, so will Kate and Cal be enough to finally make him want to settle down?
A little cliche at times and there's a third-act break-up, but still a great book that made me both very happy and a little sad. Bonus: good smut. Great small-town vibes. Can't wait to read more by this author.
Really disappointed with this book. Kate is hyper protective of her son, but she has no problem starting a "serious" relationship and letting him take a big place in her son's life with a man who will walk out of their lives and leave them in a few months because he is too afraid to get attached. I was expecting the third act breakup, but Dean doesn't even try to make amends. He changes his mind because Tony talks to him, not even alone, and Kate forgives him in a snap. What can we say about Kate's friends who don't even warn her or defend her.
I was expecting a big gesture from him! But, we just got a "I changed my mind, saw your son behind your back and bought a truck." Really it's Dean's lack of groveling that leaves me with a very bad taste.
Ladies and Gentlemen she has done it again!!! This is my 2nd ARC from Morgan and I have been beyond grateful!! The Connection is the 4th book in the Springbook Hills series and was amazing! I am not a big reader of small town romances and I just recently got into single parent romances but The Connection is so well written that I couldn't put it down. The connection follows Kate a single mom and her 7 year old son Cal (Callum) as they moved back to Kate's small town when her mother falls ill. As a single mother Kate works herself to the bone to make sure her son has everything he could want at the expense of her living her own life. Along comes Dean a hot camp counselor who is a wandering spirit doesn't really wants any attachments due his past. But what happens when he has this magnetic pull towards Kate and wants nothing more than to make her life easier? You have to read to find out!! This book will not disappoint with the love, a little heart break and the spice!!!!
⭐⭐.5 just okay. some parts were good, but was a mid and i am really fussy. 🌶️🌶️🌶️: moderate heat, 4 to 6 detailed sex scenes that push beyond vanilla, incorporating light kinks but plot focused.
kate moved back to her hometown with her young son to help care for her elderly parents, but what she thought would be temporary has turned into a permanent situation where she’s juggling multiple roles—mother, employee, caretaker, and more—all while refusing to accept help. meanwhile, dean fulton, who has spent seven years avoiding emotional connections, steps in to stop a fight involving kate’s son, cal, and finds himself unexpectedly drawn to both the boy and his mother. as dean becomes more involved, coaching cal’s pee wee football team, kate must decide if she’s willing to let her guard down, while dean confronts his fear of forming lasting bonds.
there was nothing majorly wrong with this book but these two were just a slog for me for some reason. i think the consistant inability to communicate about anything just was frustrating. there was constant complaining about everything with no desire to find resolution. dean was so sweet with cal but he couldn't get out of his head. there definitely needed to be more growth from the characters for it to be a 3.5 star for me I think. definitely not the worst book but i just prefer ME's new work.
tropes: single mum, small town romance, triggers: childhood cancer discussion, aging parents, parental illness
This book was !!!!!!! INCREDIBLE! I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Kate’s story, as we don’t have as much exposure to her in the other Springbrook Hills books as some of the other characters. HOWEVER, this book did not disappoint! I fell in love with each character in this story.
To me, this story had a different vibe from the other Springbrook Hills books. We still get our wholesome, small town setting with both its coziness and its drama but the characters felt so RELATABLE to me. I connected so much with each characters story. Kate and her willingness to put everyone, especially those that she loves, before herself. Cal and his struggle to come into his own in a new place but also his big heart, loyalty, and youthful energy. Most of all, I related to Dean. As a child’s therapist, I know how difficult it can be to grow attached to a child that you’re working with and to have them not be a part of your life anymore. I loved reading about this family as they went through this journey together.
NOT TO MENTION!!!!! How good the smut scenes were! I’ve come to expect nothing less than AMAZING spice from Morgan Elizabeth, but she really outdid herself with Dean. I WAS UNPREPARED for the epilogue!!!!!!
This book was the perfect balance of real, raw, loveable characters, A-1 spice, and the town I’ve come to know and love throughout the Springbrook Hills series. I hope there’s more to come!!
Thank you SO SO much to Morgan for graciously letting me read an ARC of this book!
This was absolutely adorable and I loved seeing Kate & Dean heal together and help each other. Might just be one of my favourite Elizabeth books! Cal and Dean really had my heart and I love how much focus there was on the struggles that came with dating as a single-parent. Dean's character development was so good, he went from a goofy single guy to someone who really seems up to raising a child. The third-act-breakup went a bit too far for me (like I'm still supposed to be rooting for them??) but that's my only criticism.
4.5⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶 ✨Small town/single mom spicy romance ✨ Spoiler Free Review I VERY QUICKLY fell in love with Dean! He was sweet, fun and probably the dirtiest man Morgan has written yet. I’m not usually one for single mom romance because it tends to get whiny BUT Kate was awesome, independent, a bad bitch, vulnerable and spoke her mind. She made me a single mom romance convert. These characters had such depth, but we’re still so fun that I laughed a ton! Their banter is heckin cute.
This can be read as a stand-alone BUT I would definitely recommend reading the series in publishing order. Let’s be honest, Morgan never misses so read them all anyways.
Disclaimer: I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for an honest review.
Dean Fulton has been running from connection & attachment for like…. A long time. Until he comes to Springbrook Hills, NJ and lays eyes on single mom, Kate Hernandez. He instantly takes to her son, Cal & it’s not long until he’s in love with Kate too.
3.5 ⭐️ & another great one in the Springbrook Hill series! I really hope we get more out of this series - where is Sadie’s love story? Zander’s? I NEED MORE, @morganelizabeth
4.5 stars! Dashboard Confessional and Taylor Swift are included in this playlist, so I knew the book was going to be good, and I was right! Dean was an amazing character and I loved how he included Callum in everything. His chemistry with Kate was off the charts, and I loved what an amazing mom she was. Such a fun and emotional read without skimping on the spice, featuring a heart squeezingly sweet HEA.
It was going so well, the single mum trope I was loving it in my feels, then the third act break up happened and usually I’m all for the third act pain. I love the grovelling that comes after it but when this man literally does ZERO and I mean ZERO grovelling it made my eye twitch. I adored Kate and Cal but Dean he can go in the bin now.
Ps I love Morgan Elizabeth and her writing was not the issue. I just really really disliked the ending of this one.
Also smut was great 😏

I mean these stories just hit the right notes for me. I know it’s a lot to do with the author making characters I can relate to with qualities that either I or my friends have that makes it so fun to read. This one was just sweet with some more good growth and the right amount of added spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
**3.5 stars⭐️**Super cute book! Don’t usually read books where the main character has a kid but Cal was just the cutest thing ever! Plus, a hot man falling for a girl who has the same name as I do… yes please ❤️
My heart 😭 This book was everything and more. I’m a sucker for a single parent trope but I think what got me the most was the fact that we also had moments of Cal’s POV. I have been sobbing both happy and sad tears since I finished this book and the epilogue was freaking everything and more 🥰
Absolutely adored this book in the series. I was so MAD at dean towards the end of the book. I loved the addition of Cal’s POV sprinkled in. Overall this was a solid read, and Kate is such an amazing mother. She deserves the world. Yet once again, too far side characters getting a book BEFORE MY GIRL SADIE
Ugh, ngl the conflict resolution was not it for me. There was barely an apology and we just roll over and accept it? Nah boo… that’s not it. Up to that moment I loved the book, but I just needed a little groveling or something.
I was toying around with this book I didn’t know how I felt about it at first but wow. In while I absolutely loved the book but I’m not the biggest fan on deans actions through some of this book
I’ve been in love with the springbrook hills series since the beginning. All the characters, all the stories, absolutely amazing. The connection definitely came through with everything i love about this authors writing style, the way she tells stories and makes you fall in love with all the characters. I mean i received a arc copy of this story this afternoon at 1:30 and by 5:30 i’ve finished, which should tell you everything. I couldn’t put it down, Dean beat out my other book bf’s by far. (so sorry to hunter & tony & tanner lol) Let’s just give a little applause to the author and her writing skills when it comes to sweet n lovable dirty talking men) 👏🏼 long story short this story had everything i wanted & then some, 10/10 recommend it for anyone looking for a story to give you all the feels!!! :-)
Also just want to put although i did receive it as a arc copy i would 100% and probably will buy it also, i’m not just saying all this for the author lmao i truly love her writing.
Wow this story was heartwarming. Morgan Elizabeth writes some of the best book boyfriends. Getting to see such a strong willed character like Kate completely trust her problems and kid to Dean (and him eating it up) was fun. The angst and subsequent groveling were good. Sometimes I don’t like single parent romances because the children in them are like mini adults, and while Cal definitely acted older than 8, it was still age appropriate and gave insight to their past before Dean came along.
4 stars because there were some typos. While this is a standalone, I recommend reading the series completely as other characters are mentioned frequently. I received an ARC for this story.
“You need me to force my way in, baby, I’ll do just that.”
5/5⭐️ | 4/5🌶
✨ First & foremost, Thank You Morgan Elizabeth for the ARC! My first ever ARC/book review was The Distraction, so you were the first person to take a chance on my new Bookstagram account and allow me to get an advanced copy of a book in exchange for an honest review, for that I can’t thank you enough!💞
✨Morgan Elizabeth did it again! Katie and Dean 🥵😈🤭
✨ I’m not a mom yet, but I only pray and hope that one day when I do, I can be even half the mom that Kate is.
✨ From the very first page, I fell in love with Kate & her inner monologue had me cracking up!🤣 I love her & her ramblings so much ❤️ I love ALL the women Morgan Elizabeth has written thus far, but I feel like I can relate to Kate the most. Her anxiety & self - doubt is something that I felt on such a deeper level. Her inability to ask for help & wanting to do everything on her own, feeling like a burden to those around her is something I struggle with. And then there are her kinks…let’s just say that bedroom (& living room) get a lot of spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶 & some creativity 😉.
✨ Callum….this kid right here! 😍 I love him!! I was pleasantly surprise that we got a few chapters with his POV. I was not expecting it, but I am extremely grateful for it. I love everything about this kid…his protectiveness of his mom, his sense of humor, the fact that he doesn’t have a filter, and he is so freakin’ smart! 🙌🏻
✨ Mr. Coach Dean Fulton 🥵🔥🌶😈 🫠When I was told that he was going to have the dirtiest mouth out of all the Springbrook Hills men, I was skeptical cause Tanner was pretty high up there but Morgan Elizabeth proved me wrong (like always 🤣). This man’s 🫦 … I can’t even put into words how Dean Fulton made me feel 😉. His dirty talk is superior 💯
✨ Y’all know that song Yeah! by Usher & Ludacris says “We want a lady in the street but a freak in the bed” - that’s them! That hotel room scene & that one in the epilogue - had me sweating 😅
✨ But fair warning ⚠️: Chapters 28 & 29 will rip your heart out, throw it in a blender, shred on high, then dump it on the floor & stomp on it 😭💔 Morgan Elizabeth really just said PAIN - here have it all! But she did put it back together & patch it all up by the end of the book - but for all our troubles I think we deserve a bonus 🌶🌶 scene 🥹
