Mitsuru Adachi (あだち充 in Japanese) is a Japanese manga artist. After graduating from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi Commercial High School in 1969, Adachi worked as an assistant for Isami Ishii. He made his manga debut in 1970 with Kieta Bakuon, based on a manga originally created by Satoru Ozawa. Kieta was published in Deluxe Shōnen Sunday (a manga magazine published by Shogakukan).
Adachi is well known for romantic comedy and sports manga (especially baseball) such as Touch, H2, Slow Step, and Miyuki. He has been described as a writer of "delightful dialogue", a genius at portraying everyday life, "the greatest pure storyteller", and "a master manga artist". He is one of the few manga artists to write for shōnen, shōjo, and seinen manga magazines, and be popular in all three.
His works have been carried in manga magazines such as Weekly Shōnen Sunday, Ciao, Shōjo Comic, Big Comic, and Petit Comic, and most of his works are published through Shogakukan and Gakken. He was one of the flagship authors in the new Monthly Shōnen Sunday magazine which began publication in June 2009. Only two short story collections, Short Program and Short Program 2 (both through Viz Media), have been released in North America, though Viz is scheduled to begin publishing Cross Game in October 2010.
He modeled the spelling of あだち (rather than 安達) for his family name after the example of his older brother, manga artist Tsutomu Adachi. In addition, it has been suggested that the accurate portrayal of sibling rivalry in Touch may come from Adachi's experiences while growing up with his older brother. Adachi did the character designs for the OVA anime series Nozomi Witches, so he is sometimes incorrectly given credit for creating the original series.
This is a review of the series. As a series, I rated it as a three star.
Mitsuru Adachi once again telling stories of his specialty: high school romantic comedy blending with baseball competition. naturally, the author inputted some new things so the readers won't be reading the same story as previous ones.
The family drama was the significant new thing for romance story. It took one whole volume and made the baseball part as minor sub-plot for the first volume.
The baseball part is pretty interesting with more numerous strong supporting characters than previous Mr. Adachi's stories.
The start of a Japanese manga series involving baseball, a young boy and a family of sisters. This was an OK set-up to introduce all of the characters and the sports element. I wait to see what happens next! I liked the illustrations throughout.
--- Cross Game 1-17 --- Plot: Makin kebelakang plotnya makin bikin penasaran. Gambar: Ok. Penokohan: Ok.
Pretty great Baseball manga, and I really loved this because unlike some sports manga it’s like mostly about the sport but this had a nice story, great art and some awesome characters 👌⚾️😁💕
Another baseball/romance manga from Adachi, who you may already know from his classic "Touch" series.
Ko Kitamura is a fifth-grader whose family owns a sporting goods store. His best buddy is Wakaba Tsukishima, a girl who was born in the same hospital on the same day. Her family runs a coffee shop and batting cage. Ko plays a little baseball for fun, and isn't sure what he'll be doing six months from now, let alone the long term. Wakaba, though, believes they are destined to be together forever, and has even prepared a list of future birthday presents as a guide for Ko. ("20th Birthday: Engagement Ring.")
That summer, however, an incident happens that changes everything.
The story picks up again as Ko goes from junior to senior high, and joins the school baseball team.
The characters are familiar types, and once the main action starts, it's pretty obvious where the series is going. But it's a comfortable trip.
Sexism warning: Although Wakaba's sister Aoba is just about as good a pitcher (possibly better), she's banned from official games, and no effort is made to change that in the initial volumes--indeed, the head coach of the baseball team is more than willing to run her into the ground in practice so his preferred players will be ready for Koshien.
Baseball dan romance masa mudaaa!! (*^^)/~~~~~~~~~~◎
Ngg, jujur dua-duanya gak kualami..tapi! Dengan membaca komik ini sama aja, 'kan?! Whahahaa~ "Ya gak sama, bego!"
Manis dan 'lebih-banyak-yang-tersirat-daripada-yang-tersurat' (baca: subtle) seperti karya Adachi-sensei yang lainnya... "Padahal baru baca 2 judul, tapi belagak pakar..."
Hahahahaa~!!"
I've loved this manga! I have no idea at all about baseball so it was a bit difficult to follow at times and I had to look a bunch of stuff up on Wikipedia, but the relationship between the characters was very nicely developed. Kind of a loose end, though, and I'm not a big fan of those, and Kou and Aoba looked exactly the same in some many panels?! It got a bit confusing at times. Still liked it enough to stay up on a working day to finish it!
komik mitsuru adachi pertama yg belon2 udah bisa ngaduk2 emosi di seri 1-nya! tentang koh yg tetanggaan sama wakaba & aoba bersaudara, and as usual, there's always the adachi formula: baseball, childhood friends, a dog named 'punch', adachi's cameo appearance, and endless commercials of adachi's own comics :p
This first book in the series sets up the characters, and their quirks, really well. The ending comes as a bit of a shock even if one, like myself, already knew what happened. Not being in the sf/fantasy genre, Cross Game's appeal is for sports fans, as well as for those who like a more naturalistic setting in their manga.
