Thoroughly enjoyed the tone of this episodic adventure. Loved the Mr. Show vibes. Some memorable moments for sure, though - like with any sketch comedy - some hits and some misses. Does not take itself seriously in the best possible way. Recommended for Mr. Show fans for sure. The uninitiated might not be into this brand of comedy.

January 19, 2025I never really liked listening to podcasts. I never liked them because I considered most of them cheesy with the goofy sound effects and never liked the long nature of them., but one podcast broke through the barrier of not-funniness, Nate and Bob Odenkirk’s Summer in Argyle! Nate’s experience for writing for the onion and Bob’s experience with Saturday Night Live really show in this podcast abou the mysterious case of the murder in Argyle. A town known for always being and content with being 2nd place, they only host one thing that will bring in the reporters and news: their annual hotdog eating competition. But in this curious summer, the star hotdog eater is killed via crossbow bolt. Will they find the the killer? You better give this a listen to find out!

A fun and rambling performance from the minds behind Mr. Show.
This is a radio broadcast style comedy based on a murder in a small town.
It is intentionally goofy and fun and well voiced by the cast.
The story is complete nonsense, but there are strong performances from comedians like David Cross, Paul F. Tompkins, and Brian Posehn that make it worth the listen.
If you are looking for a coherent story, you will probably not enjoy it. The story is all over the place and is best described as a long Mr. Show skit. For fans of sketch comedy though this is definitely worth a listen and is a fun addition to Audible's Originals. It is also a PG performance so the kids can enjoy it as well.

This was a hoot! Best Audible Original to date.
An imaginative, thoroughly original, and absurd take on small town America. Well, at least one small town: fictitious Argyle, Ohio.
The entire cast's performance and comedic timing was spot on. It was especially a delight to hear Bob Odenkirk as the town's narrator.
Truly funny stuff. This definitely will be a title that I will listen to and savor again. Well done.

I felt very confused when listening to the first episode, but after that I really got into the tone and unusual humour of the series. It was silly and fun, I’d love other series’ like this. The humour is that strange I’m surprised audible agreed to fund this but I’m glad they did!

The performances were just right, the storyline doesn’t need to be tight but that’s part of the fun, and the crazy characters were a hoot. The medium of a podcast series feels the biggest misfit.

I keep finding myself thinking "huh this is just like this other audible original" everytime I listen to one lately but this one did all those things better and was very funny. Good stuff

I was hoping for a bit more from Bob Odenkirk, but this was a bit of a disappointment.

A silly and fun story. This audio series was written by Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman from Breaking bad), and his son. It features an all-star cast, with a particular favourite being David Cross, and is a surreal murder mystery about a town which suffers 1 murder every year during its annual hot dog eating contest. It's wacky, with fun jokes, and I had fun listening.
