In order to avenge the death of his family, Qi Yan concealed his identity and approached Xia Xun.
Xia Xun did not know the truth and was deeply and unreservedly in love with him. But in the end, because of Qi Yan, he was imprisoned and his family ruined.
On the way to exile, Xia Xun faked his death to escape.
Seven years later, in front of his own grave, he met Qi Yan again.
Unfortunately, this is not for me. First, there’s this not-communicating, not-listening thing going on between them that drags out the misunderstanding. It’s one of my pet peeves and I hate reading that kind of stories.
Moreover, this is written in flashbacks, and that takes away whatever sympathy I might develop for the shou if I got to see his experience first. This is supposedly a “wife-chasing crematorium”, but from the start, what I see is a very loving gong who has every reason for his revenge, and a very accusing shou who refuses to listen and see whatever the gong does for him. For this reason alone, I actually prefer to see a gong-chasing crematorium instead.
I peeked ahead, but it seems this miserable business continues till the end, so nope, I don’t think I want to go through so much misery.
Returning to cnovels by reading my favorite trope, crematorium!! Unfortunately, nobody can match up to SQC. This was good and an angst fest and tearjerker from start to end, but it lacks that special something that makes it truly memorable and poignant. For a similar premise, I liked Blood Crown by SQC.
To be clear, this isn't a romance novel because it's a story of two people, Qi Yan and Xia Xun who are entangled in both love and hate. Whether it was due to their pasts or circumstances, fate brought them together and wrenched them apart cruelly, only to lead them back together after years of pain and suffering. This is their story of redemption.
I appreciate that the author wrote these characters to be as flawed as they were, it made for an interesting dynamic between QY and XX. All throughout the story, readers will get to see how QY and XX knew and loved each other in the past, and what truly happened for them to be separated for so long, and why XX hated QY so much. It's definitely a very complicated relationship and I think for the most part, the author did a good job with its nuances but overall the story is quite boring. Although the characters seem complex on the surface, they fall flat. I also didn't really enjoy the pacing, I would've appreciated if it was a little shorter.
“i once said that i would always protect you, but then i broke my promise. so if you want my life then take it. it always was… yours.”

qi yan and xia xun once were childhood sweethearts. but when qi yan betrays him by killing his entire family, xia xun so hurt from the betrayal, fakes his death.
this book was good, especially the last 20% of the book. but the structure of the story was a bit difficult to follow. would have loved to see more sweet moments between qi yan and xia xun but seeing how their story was all pain and betrayal and misunderstandings, i think it will take time for them to return to how things were.
as i said overall, the plot was good. maybe it was the translation that did not work for me? not saying it was bad or anything, it was good but not for me.
I don't think there was anything wrong with the overall story itself, I just really hated the structure of it. The first chapter is essentially the climax then the story starts 6 months before that chapter but interspersed randomly throughout are flashbacks from 7 years ago. I hated the jumping back and forth. And honestly, I felt like the dialogue was a bit lacking and that a lot of the situations seemed really contrived to create angst, for example all the times that the ML's guard would try to speak up and the ML stopped him from revealing anything. Idk I feel like at this point I've read much better wife chasing crematoriums to be moved by any of the angst here.
Summary: The ML thinks that the MC has been dead for 7 years when he meets him by accident and takes him back to his house after threatening MC's older brother. MC attempts to leave and remembers how he was used in the past by the ML.

extremely intense, dramatic and emotional right from the first page all the way to the end of the book, no chill at all. the wife chasing crematorium trope was on point with very satisfying groveling from the ML (although personally i don't feel like what he did to the MC was that bad compared to the MLs from other crematorium novels huhu)
I swear this is misunderstandings and miscommunication (in this case no communication) done right. Ahhh the ending was so cute it was worth it. I swear this could have just a little longer I would give the full 5 stars
My heart, everything feels like a puzzle. It has to happen for it to fit a situation. And my poor cinnamon roll deserves every happiness. You made me cry at the end and I wish I could see more fluff in the extras.
It was truly a wonderful read!! The way it is written is the perfect way to write a wife chasing crematorium! I could truly understand why the mc chose to forgive the ml here, and the ml was also just perfect!!! Very, very well written!!
The only sensible person in this whole story is Zhi Gui!
Guanshan Muyu starts off with a dramatic scene—our MC Xia Xun tries to stab the ML Qi Yan to death. It doesn’t work, naturally, but then we are thrown back to the past. Six months ago, when they first met after years of separation where Qi Yan believed Xia Xun to be dead.
Honestly, with all the revenge and family history that got unearthed, one can be sympathetic to both Xia Xun and Qi Yan for making the choices they made. And sure, the seven years that they were separated caused a rift between them. But afterwards? A complete mess where no one wants to communicate, and if one party tries, then the other party stops them by saying, "I don't want to hear any excuses." Or that, "It's too late now, I don't care what happened anymore."
But of course they care! That's why they are both so entrenched in the past, neither being able to to move on from it. A lot of small grievances build up and end up getting revealed as flashbacks throughout the story, and honestly by the end, I was quite done with that.
Half the characters we meet have some kind of sad backstory that they don't want to reveal at first, have some plot going on in the background, the target of which is either Xia Xun or Qi Yan. Mostly Qi Yan. And it all gets resolved by some chance of luck of being in the right time or getting a crucial piece of information from someone at the right time.
Not to say that every story must have a great plot, great writing or likable characters, but at least one of them should be there. Here, alas, none of them ring true.
Qi Yan and Xia Xun are pitiful, but they don't make me feel like I should root for them. Just let it go and move on, in my opinion.
Qi Hui and He Cong are also pitiful. They're both friends with people who can't do things in moderation and have no thoughts about their future beyond revenge/redemption.
Zhi Gui though, I admire her. She wanted to end her indentured servitude, a motivation one can easily sympathise and root for, and worked towards it with the means she had. Even then, she didn't backstab people she was grateful towards, and also managed to fulfil her dream of going home as a free woman. Go Zhi Gui!
Reading it a second time gave it a different feeling. I did not even notice that tears were flowing down my cheeks.
Qi Yan (ML) had a sad background. His family was scheme upon and the previous Emperor was in cahoot with the main perpetrator. After the new Emperor came into power, the perpetrator's power was undeniable. It may even jeopardize his power as the Emperor. After investigation, it was proved that Qi's family did nothing wrong and the family was pardoned. But, the only living member of the family was Qi Yan. With the Emperor's backing, Qi Yan started investigating the perpetrator's insidious actions. And during that investigation, he met Xia Xun (MC)
Xia Xun also had a sad background. His mother was a concubine from a humble background and he wasn't accepted by the Xia family. The only good person in the family was his eldest sister-in-law. A chance to meet with Qi Yan gave a new meaning to life for him. He falls hard for Qi Yan even though not realizing it at the time. All he knew was that he wanted to share all the best things in the world with Qi Yan although he, himself had nothing much to offer.
A decree by the Emperor led to a disaster for the Xia family and the one in the lead to execute it was Qi Yan. Xia Xun was horrified. He was clueless and brokenhearted. He lost his soul that day. There was no more meaning to live. But, he persevered for his eldest brother, the only living family member he had left. 7 years later, Qi Yan and Xia Xun met again which led to the start of the story.
I had a love-hate view of Qi Yan. Comparing both him and Xia Xun, it was obvious Xia Xun had it harder. And he also had the revelation towards the end of the story. Xia Xun was his bottom line. And whatever made Xia Xun happy was also what made him happy. The last chapter showed that Qi Yun still had some opinions when it came to Xia Xun's action but, he never voiced it out. There was nothing that Xia Xun do that could anger him. And we as readers, could see that Xia Xun had the power in the relationship.
Slowly working my way through novels with the crematorium trope lol. But, I don’t know, the male lead in this one was a pretty likeable character from the beginning and I’d say his actions were highly justified!! I enjoyed this one more towards the second half I think. The ending was beautiful though 😭
Also what’s with the extra “n” at the end of “Muyu” in the title? Grr pet peeve strikes again
