This might be my favorite volume of this series, so far. Even the anime adaptation of this particular volume, I also loved so much. The 'antagonists' are mainly the focus of this volume and I was not expecting to be so absorbed reading about them.
Pinnochio, Franca/Caterina, Franco and even Pinnochio's adopted 'father' Cristiano, this volume is all about them. They are all terrorists, one way or another, and they have their own personal goals, either selfishly or not. I understand what their goals are and why they're so adamant on sticking to it. Though I don't agree with their ways of doing things, I understand where they're coming from. And I absolutely didn't expect that I would be rooting for them. I love seeing the depths of these antagonists' disposition. Complicated characters properly handled by the authors are tend to garner both haters and empathizers, and they are that kind of characters.
Based on what happened at the end of this volume, Pinocchio encountered a tragic ending and both Franca and Franco are not in a good situation as of the moment. I'm actually feeling sad for the three of them, especially Pinocchio. For the past four months, he had tried to live the life of a normal person. He had not killed a single person for the past four months and he felt like he was getting used to it and strangely liking it. But their circumtances are obviously not letting him be at peace. I think his ending is the obvious ending he would get, but still, I felt sad about it.
That panel where the focus is on the key near Pinocchio's hand, which was given by Cristiano, is like a reminder of a 'what if' scenario that he could have gotten, but unfortunately slipped out of his grasp. Seriously, I actually teared up a little bit while reading these panel sequences.
I don't know what to expect from this series, to be honest. This has a tragic vibe to it, from the perspective of both the protagonists and antagonists. I am shamelessly rooting for both sides, but it's either one side would get eliminated by the other or all of them would go down, that's the feeling I'm getting from this.
I think I'm getting to the part where the anime ended, so I'm close to unknown territory. I'm excited and also anxious to see what will happen next!!!
Until the end of this volume, I hadn't realized how much I sympathized with the supposed villains as well as with our cybernetic heroines. As the picture grows more complex, I'm excited to see where the next volume leads with the introduction of a new fratello. Previously read September 1, 2007.
Investigation Unveiled Marco's ex-girlfriend Patricia launches an investigation into the truth behind the SWA with a colleague, delving into the agency's clandestine operations and hidden agendas.
Captivity and Rescue Franca is captured by Public Safety but is ultimately rescued by Franco and Pinocchio, leading to a deadly confrontation that leaves Jose and Henrietta reeling from the loss of their comrades.
Escapes and Retribution As tensions escalate, Franco, Franca, and Pinocchio escape to Franca's farm in Frascati, evading capture by the SWA as Triela seeks revenge on Pinocchio. Meanwhile, a daring escape ensues as Christiano, Franco, and Franca make a break for freedom amidst the chaos and betrayal surrounding them.
