A new cyborg and a new handler! The anime adaptation hadn't reached this part of the manga that's why this pair of fratello is new to me. Triela is no longer the oldest of the bunch because Petra, the new cyborg, now holds that position. The interesting part about this volume is that it was shown the process before joining as a pair of fratello. The reconstruction and conditioning of the cyborg and even the handler's right of selecting his choice of cyborg. Which was quite a bit unsettling. as if the little girls are no longer humans but just a bunch of dolls ready for purchase.
Petra before and after becoming a cyborg...
The new fratello seems interesting to follow. We already got glimpse of Petra's old life before and the weird but fated chance meeting of her and his handler Alessandro before they even became a fratello. It was actually weird and saddening to know the underlying situation about Petra becoming a cyborg. I don't know if Alessandro would get a chance to realize that the teenager he talked to that day was the same girl he now handle as a cyborg.
I actually didn't expect for an additional fratello at this point in time, but I didn't dislike it. I wonder if there would be more fratello in the next volumes. This volume is a pretty solid read. Not too much advancement on the plot but since this is more of a character-driven story, I don't really mind. And I have to say, the art is getting more and more phenomenal. It's so pretty that the art itself is making this series worth the read. Just look at this panel....

While the first couple chapters in this volume focus on exploring Jean and Giuseppe's background, the series seems to take a new direction with the introduction of Petrushka, the newest cyborg. Petrushka is the first of the second generation of cyborgs and the specifications have apparently been modified to make the cyborgs better able to blend in with society, but slightly less physcally strong. Petrushka is also slightly older than the other girls, which, to my rather cynical mind, is so that more sex appeal can be introduced into the series although it may also open plot options that were otherwise closed. I was disappointed that we didn't get any closure on what happened to Franca and Franco though.
A Visit to the Past Jean pays a solemn visit to the grave of his fiancée, honoring her memory and reflecting on the weight of loss that still lingers within him.
Vacation in Sicily Jean and Jose retreat to their villa in Sicily for a much-needed break, yet the tranquility is interrupted by haunting dreams of their deceased younger sister, stirring emotions of grief and longing.
Introducing Petrushka The introduction of Petrushka, the first second-generation cyborg, and her handler Alessandro, brings new dynamics and possibilities to the SWA, offering glimpses of hope amidst the shadows of sorrow and remembrance.
This volumes continues in the tradition of GSG by providing moments of slice-of-life between the action scenes, easily switching between styles. The introduction of a new Fratello leaves the reader wanting more once the volume ends. Sadly, the series is currently on hiatus by its North American licensor, so who knows when the longing for more will actually be fulfilled.
This volume was more dedicated to the first second generation cyborg, Petrushka, and introducing, her handler Alessandro. I didn't really enjoy this volume. But its okay. I can't edit until volume 7
