Deux Ex Machina A memoir of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

Rate this book
Big on accomplishment, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo brought unprecedented academic and administrative experience and expertise to politics, but her tenure as the country's fourteenth president was bedeviled by constant controversy and intrigue brought about by her enemies. Persecuted by the succeeding administration, her steely resolve to what would have destroyed lesser mortals instead made her ultimate survivor, confounding friend and foe alike. Evidently made of sterner stuff, Arroyo made difficult decisions in a complicated environment at a tough time, facing byzantine challenges and surrounded by complex personalities with different agendas. This memoir is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in her own words, finally taking ownership in her own words, finally taking ownership of her own narrative, a powerful testament to her influential legacy on the country's economy and political life.

President Arroyo's memoir proves that there are two sides to the same coin. In this book, she talked about her early life, her side of the story as she was accused by her enemies, her thoughts during the most difficult crises, the interesting people she met, and the guiding principles as she navigate her life. I find the book refreshing, honest, and inspiring.

I give this 4 stars. Straight forward writing, no verbose descriptive sentences. She may not be perfect, but GMA remains to be one of the best presidents the Philippines had.
