“It’s almost as though you thought a scorpion were prettier than a spider because it’s got such a lovely tail.”
I enjoyed the read, which I did following watching the first two seasons of the show. A well-developed world of feuding families, cultures, religions, and varying displays of magic. The story structure is odd and takes a bit of getting used to. This is also true in the show. The first time I tried to watch the pilot I found it aimless. There were too many characters with long forgettable names, and everyone had nebulous goals, which is a common trope in fantasy that irritates me. I was instructed to give the show a second try and by episode 3 the world was interesting, and I understood who the characters were, if not totally what they wanted. The book is a fun adventure. I bring up the show in a book review, because the book covers a lot of ground, much of the first season and some of the second. If you don’t want spoilers for the show, you should watch it first. And if you don’t want to think you know where things are going in the book, then don’t watch the show first. Admittedly, I’d recommend watching the show first. It will help differentiate between some of the characters whose differences don’t stand out for a while.
This was a pretty good book. I didn't watch the show on TV, but found this book for a reading challenge I was participating in. Interesting story, and I liked the main character. It is a book of short stories, which isn't my favorite style, but I stuck with it. The stories are tied together, sothat helped. There are a lot of books in The Witcher series, but I do not think for now I will continue.
Such a great book. Explains the time-line much better than the show. The character descriptions are a little brief for my liking, the personalities of the characters are all different but so fantastic. Geralt so stoic and dandelion being so charismatic is a really nice balance in conversation through out the book.
Originally read this book after watching the show, but I really did not like it. The author's writing is not my style. It jumps around a lot from story to story, and the descriptions are not for me. Took me forever to finish because I got bored. Overall, would not recommend.
