Celebrating America's favorite cityscapes, this series combines historic interest and contemporary beauty. Then and Now features fascinating archival photographs contrasted with specially commissioned, full-color images of the same scene today. A visual lesson in the historic changes of our greatest urban landscapes.
LOVED IT! That is what I think! I love the format of an old picture, and then a more current one. Comparing the pictures, explaining when buildings were destroyed by fire or for future development, etc. I am glad I own it so when we go on our own excursions, I have a good reference book!
Part of a small series of picture books juxtaposing old photographs with current views from the same vantage point. By far the most compelling is the original downtown/warehouse district bustling street view which, now is merely the side of Saarinen's Gateway Arch.
pictoral history of the city. great resource before visiting. there is more history here than i had previously imagined. more than just mark twain and beer, anyway.
