The Removal Man

Rate this book
The Removal Man is an utterly unputdownable suspense thriller from the author of The Dinner Party and The Good Neighbour that imagines your worst house-moving nightmare – and then dials it up to 11.

Rose is moving. For her and her son, Noah, this is going to be a fresh start.

She’s almost finished packing but Noah is determined to spend one last night camping out in the garden like he used to. Rose agrees as long as he wraps up warm inside their small tent.

Four hours later she’s woken by a frantic banging on the window.

It’s Noah.

There’s someone in the garden.

That’s when Rose picks up the kitchen knife.

As soon as you start reading a book about a young mother and her son, you'll know how it is going to end. It ends well, of course. No author will write a book like this, and have the brave mother and her son die a gruesome death.
Sara and Noa have to fight for their lives, and fighting is what Sara does. Noa, not so much but well, he's only nine years old and most of the time he's locked up somewhere.
Although some parts of the book were fast-paced and filled with tension, others were very, very slow. I even thought about not finishing the book after the first few chapters where all we read is about a rainy night and a whining kid who wants to sleep outside. And oh yes, strange noises.
Once Sara meets the removal man the pace picks up.
The story I found quite unbelievable but the way Sara keeps fighting for herself and her son was very realistic.
A nice and fast read for a sunny afternoon!

I’ve never been more infuriated with a character than I was while reading this book, but in all the best ways. It kept my invested in the story, though I’m not sure me yelling at my kindle would help Rose with her situation at all but my gods woman STOP AND THINK WHAT YOU’RE DOING BEFORE YOU GET KILLED.

Murder? Check.
Blood? Check.
Gore? Check.
Suspense? Check.

Read this now!

I was "forced" to give this book nothing less than a 5 star rating !

And here's, why:
This story scared the dickens out of me !!!

Let's enter this story:
We have a mother being alone with her 9 year old son in an almost empty house (because the house is up for sale, and they are a short time away from moving).

The husband is not at home, as a matter of fact we will learn later on, that he is in the hospital for a while now...

The "removal men" a.k.a. movers have stopped by earlier in the day, to pick up some items to haul to a storage.

Evening comes, and the son wants to pitch a tent in the yard to sleep outside.
Mom isn't feeling to join him, but moves her cot to the big window, to keep a watchful eye on her son.

It starts raining, and the son comes back to the house - not because it is raining, but because he hears weird noises outside...dragging noises...

And here's where the scare of the story begins.

Later on we will find out, what the dragging noise outside is.

You guessed it (or not):
It's a removal man !

And he has no good intentions- none at all !

That's all I can give away.

This is a story of how far a mom will go, to protect her son and herself.
And it is scary - especially since the story is highly descriptive and makes you not only double, but triple check your own doors - make sure, every single door is locked !

If you want to have a good, organic scare and look forward to a sleepless night and not a boring old horror or ghost story, then this is the book for you.

Would highly recommend, if you are a lover of a more "realistic feeling" scream-fest and realize, that this could happen to you, too !

So, most of this book was just one really extended villain monologue.

Seriously, our villain is a chatterbox. It’s kind of like…now that you’re at my mercy, let me expound upon my crimes for the rest of your foreseeable future and expound and expound and (you still here?) expound and expound. Okay, I’m done! Nah, just kidding…let me tell you more about what I did to whom and why.

The parts of the book that aren’t villain chattering are actually very suspenseful, if melodramatic. I was definitely worried about our mom and especially about her son. One secret was unexpected and revealed in an especially cruel fashion. And I wanted our villain to die – if only so that they would shut up.

The book is definitely entertaining and squeaks to a 3 star for entertainment value alone, but time and again I wanted someone to gag the villain so that they would just stop talking.

Rose and her son Noah are moving to a new house for a fresh start. It's their final night in their old house, and Noah decides to camp in the garden like he used to with his father. Early hours of the morning, Rose is woken to banging. Noah, scared. There's someone in the garden. And they're dragging something.

Oh what a creepy little thriller of a book! Cleverly compact, it has all the chills in just under 300 pages. Bloom is absolutely terrifying, and this will definitely put you off moving for a while! Brilliant book!

Rose and her son Noah are packing to move, and as a final goodbye memory, Noah spends the night in his tent in the backyard. The memory is bittersweet for Rose. Her husband, Lucas, would normally join Noah, but Lucas will never fully recover from an aneurysm. He spends his days in a coma and the medical costs require Rose to downsize. It doesn’t help Rose’s compassion towards her husband’s condition that he was in bed with a much younger student at the time of his aneurysm. Needless to say, Rose's emotions are terribly conflicted during this stressful time.
So imagine she thinks she sees someone in her home late that night. She rushes out to check on Noah, and they both hear a strange sound in the yard. From this moment on, things move very quickly and Rose is tested beyond her limits physically and mentally.
This story isn’t for the squeamish. There’s blood and gore, murder and corpses, and lots of rain and mud. Thinking back, I’m surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. The plot kept me involved, and I was more interested in Rose’s ability to survive than the actual details of past murders.
Deciphering who the assailant is and why he’s in their basement was a bit far-fetched, but stranger things have happened in our world. And the fact that he entered her home as a hired moving man is creepy, exposing yet another weakness we unwittingly offer to evil people among us. I was really hoping Rose would make it, but the stakes were not in her favor, making this an edge-of-your-seat thrilling read.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.
I was gripped straight away and I loved how the story jumped straight into the plot.
I found it to be a fast, easy read with short chapters that really helped the story flow and made me want to keep reading.
I read this in one sitting as I found it to be so gripping and entertaining.
I felt a bit breathless after finishing it as I found it to be tense throughout the entire story.

This is the first time I have read this author and I can't say that I was enamoured by this offering. The premise was intriguing but that's as far as it went. Honestly, most of the first quarter of the book was about Rose and her son Noah in the backyard, in the house and in the backyard again.

Rose and Noah have just packed up their home to move and as a final goodbye, Noah wants to spend the night in his tent in the backyard...just the same as he would have done with his father Lucas. Lucas who had an aneurysm whilst in bed with a much younger student is now in hospital and will never fully recover. It's down to his increasing medical costs that Rose has had to sell their home and downsize.

Noah pleaded with his mum to allow him to camp out in his tent just the way he used to with his dad. But then in the middle of the night, Rose is awoken by a banging on the double glazed doors. Noah is wanting to come in. He heard something so Rose investigates. She wanders the house and then the backyard, but sees nothing. But Noah is adamant he heard something. So she beds down with him in his cramped one man tent and they both doze off.

Until a noise awakens Rose. A dragging sound just outside the tent. She finally works up the courage to look. Nothing is there. By this time, Noah is awake once again. Of course, Rose cleverly left her mobile inside on the floor after her son woke her earlier and as she moves towards the house to grab her phone, she sees a shadow in an upstairs window. Someone is inside. She must grab her phone and call the police.

And blah blah blah...

Honestly, it just goes on and on about every step Rose and Noah take. She never got her phone but instead frightened herself silly that she tries pushing Noah up over the high wall that encircles their property. But instead he falls to the ground. And then it moves from the boring to the preposterous. By which time, I've given up and tossed it aside to move onto something far more interesting and worthy of my time.

Many people loved this book and I was waiting to reach that point but by 30% I still hadn't got there so why waste my time any further?

Life's too short to read books that don't interest me.

I would like to thank #RJParker, #NetGalley and #OneMoreChapter for an ARC of #TheRemovalMan in exchange for an honest review.

Wow that was one horrifying, brutal,mind-bending story. I found it quite terrifying. It's definitely not a book you want to read when you are all alone at night. My only complaints is that it was too drawn out,and at times really far fetched. Other than that it was good. This was my first time reading anything by this author but it won't be the last.

Rose and her nine year old son Noah were just days away from moving from their isolated Edwardian house that was situated at the edge of Hampton Forest to their new home of the forth floor of a residential block. The heavy items of furniture had just been taken away by the removal men and Rose had been looking forward to relaxing and indulging in a glass of wine or two. So she wasn't very impressed when Noah asked if he could spend the night in his tent in the back garden. Rose wasn't a big fan of camping due to some bad memories from her past but despite her reservations and overprotective nature, she found herself giving in to her young son's request. Little did she realise that having to spend the night in a tent would be a mild inconvenience when compared to the events that unfolded after the night turned into a terrifying game of cat and mouse with a sadistic killer.

This intense and atmospheric story is written entirely from the perspective of Rose, a feisty and strong willed character who was determined to do everything in her power to outwit their tormentor and get her beloved son to a place of safety. The conflicting emotions and overwhelming feelings of fear and terror that the author had imbued into his main character were authentic and believable. Having a young child as a endangered character always ramps up my feelings of anxiety to the max even though they are generally ok at the end of the story although when the author is Richard Parker, you can never predict what his twisted mind has in store for any of his characters. The antagonist in this story was a cruel individual who had as much empathy for his victims as a proverbial pod person and his smug attitude whenever he was taunting Rose was seriously irritating. He really was a twisted narcissistic individual but why had he targeted Rose and Noah? How did he know so much about their lives? How far out of her comfort zone would Rose be prepared to go in her desperate battle to thwart their tormentor's diabolical, twisted end game?

Omg,wow...just wow, this is a fast paced, addictive, roller coaster ride that hardly gives the reader a chance to draw in a breath as the story rockets through its numerous twists and turns. I was hooked in from the first page, held captivated by the author's mesmerising story of Rose's desperate battle for the lives of herself and her young son. The chapters are short and snappy, many of which end in a way that infect the reader with a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. I was so caught up in this incredible thriller that I read the whole book in one sitting. I think that Richard Parker has excelled his own very high standards of writing with this latest addition to his catalogue of gripping thrillers. I would love to watch a movie or tv adaptation of this intense and atmospheric story and would award it far more than five stars if I could. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year. Very very highly recommended by little old me.

Everything happened because a spoiled 9 years old wanted things to go his way and could careless about the safety of his or his mother.

The mother is also to blame. When you're the only adult in the house, you should be in charge. The child's brain is still undeveloped.

OMG WHAT A READ!!!!
Packed to the rafters with tension and suspense, I literally have no nails left. Rose and Noah her young son are home alone. The House is packed up and this is the last night in their home before they move. Noah is camping in the garden. In the middle of the night there is a bang on the lounge window. " Mum there is someone in the garden". This is only the beginning of the terrifying ordeal for Rose and Noah. Rose will do whatever she can to protect her son. A terrifying, gripping read and in my opinion the best book by this author so far. Loved it!!!

If I was claustrophobic this might have hit differently. As it was there were a lot of parts that didn’t make sense. The tunnels, for instance. How the hell wouldn’t such large tunnels have collapsed over time and caused parts of the lawn or house to sink? There’s rain all the time, why didn’t the tunnel the “big baddie” dragged the kid into collapse years ago? Why all of a sudden, when the fem MC needed to see where her kid had been taken did it not only fold in on itself, but nearly bury her in the process? Seriously. Also how could he have maneuvered the kid out of all that mud and through such narrow tunnels in the first place? With both of them unscathed, no less. I know they’re supposedly larger than the ones the fem MC crawled down later but still. If they were so wide the ground would have sank for sure, cause gravity.

I never did quite understand where the entrance to these tunnels suddenly appeared from in the basement. Are you telling me that no one noticed a man-sized hole behind the grain stores? That’s not really what the basement looked like, but you get the idea. I never heard (audiobook) where exactly this hole was and what was around it that made it so incognito.

Don’t get me started on the RIDICULOUSNESS around the dragged out (ha) conversations between the fem MC and her would-be-murderer. There was a lot of negotiating, or attempts at it at least, and back and forth, it was too much. Why didn’t the male MC bring a weapon to coerce her with? Who the hell shows up barehanded (and doesn’t arm themselves when they get there) if they’re planning to coerce , subdue, and kill people? Even if he was gonna strangle her, using an object to do it with would likely make the deed a little easier (based on what I’ve seen in true crime shows; I know, expert-level knowledge). Anyway, him not showing up with a weapon and turning into a chatty Cathy all of a sudden turned what should have been a 3 hour, action-packed story, into a dawdling 16 year-old Chihuahua (somewhere around 7 hours long).

Speaking of weapons, what kind of self-respecting kidnapper invites their captive to grab a spade??? One coated in concrete no less? Fucking ludicrous. He deserved every hit to the head for his idiocy. AND AFTERWARDS HE LETS HER LIVE SO SHE CAN RETRIEVE THE CASES. WHAT. THE. HELL? That didn’t even make sense to me. That was where I was completely done with trying to believe in this book. It was impossible. I can’t speak to the probability of both MCs being able to walk around with concussions, and possibly a TBI, and get into a few tussles without one of them collapsing because as much as I wanted to be one, I’m no medical examiner, but I will say I’m giving their apparent miracle status strong side-eye.

I did like the tenacity of the fem MC, and the creativeness of her escape attempts. They were definitely not run of the mill for a horror/thriller (except for the spade and the knife of course).

Is it fucked up I thought of those vacuum-seal fetish beds during the scene where the male MC was sucking all the air out of the kiddo’s bag? My intrusive thought was “there are probably kinksters who would kill to switch places with him right now.” Obviously not, because there was no consent involved, because you know, murder, but still. I had to giggle to myself.

While the fem MC was crawling through the tunnels, where were the bugs and critters? If this place was accessible through the basement there might even be bats down there. No mention of them or why they weren’t there. Also, two words-tree roots. Where were the roots that should have been all over the place obstructing these tunnels and possibly growing through the suitcases? Some trees spread out pretty far so they didn’t even necessarily have to come from the sole tree within the brick wall boundary.

I thought the fem MC was on a different level than the almost silly and cartoonish villain. He was not her equal nor her better. The entire concept of “go into these tunnels for me to drag out 4 suitcases” just sounded unbelievable to me and I had trouble getting into the story at all because of it. It “read” very B scary movie to me. I liked the perspective that this book would be terrifying for people with the fear of being buried alive or tight spaces. That was cool, but unfortunately, I couldn’t personally enjoy the story from that angle either.

Moving into a new house is a very exciting experience. You plan how each room will be furnished, and where you will store all of your personal treasures. Your goal is to do everything you can to make this home all your very own. But, while you’re choosing which wallpaper pattern you would like to hang in the family room, do you ever wonder about the people who have lived in this house before you? No? You’ll be sorry.

Rose and her son Noah are currently in the process of moving out of their home. Their belongings and all their memories of living in this house are packed away now. The moving company has already removed the large items, and the rest are sealed up in stacks of boxes. Life took a turn for them both, and the time has come to leave the past behind and look toward a new future for them both.

Noah wants to spend their last night camping outside in the yard – something he’s always enjoyed. Rose relaxes with some wine in the house and comfortably drifts off to sleep. She awakens to Noah banging on the window for her to let him in the house because someone is out there in the yard. Rose looks around outside and reassures him there’s no one out there. Then she realizes that the ‘someone’ is inside the house.

She and Noah go to the border wall at the property’s edge, planning to climb over to escape the threat. As she reaches for her son, he is suddenly pulled underground, and so begins the nightmare. Rose and Noah end up in a fight for their lives on this night. But, where is Noah now, who took him, and why?

The Removal Man will leave you breathless with every turn of the page. R. J. Parker has crafted a dark tale of hope and loss, of trust and betrayal, and of life and death. You will fight to survive alongside Rose and Noah, but stay close – don’t let them get out of sight. You definitely don’t want to have to face this night alone.

Thank you to HarperCollins, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Removal Man by R.J. Parker is a no-holds-barred survival thriller that will appeal to fans of No Exit or Mirrorland. The story revolves around Rose a single mother, who has set up a tent in the backyard for her son Noah. They are about to move to a new house, and Noah wants to spend one last night outside. What they don't know is that someone is waiting for them...

Here is a creepy excerpt from Chapter 1:

"Maynard strolled back up the drive, an insincere smile already primed for Rose. ‘OK, we’re full up for this trip. If you can just give me a signature.’ He held out a digital screen, but he was still a few steps away.
‘Sure.’ She extended her hand but he slowed his pace, almost as if he wanted her to hold her arm out longer. Something about Maynard’s impish manner made her uncomfortable. He was probably in his early sixties and had only the top row of his teeth bleached. The bottom ones were more noticeably yellow because of it. And she didn’t like the way he’d ruffled her son’s hair. Who honestly did that to other people’s kids anymore?
‘Use your finger.’ He handed her the unit."

Overall, The Removal Man is an action-packed thriller that you won't be able to put down. I sped through this book, because I had to know what happened next. I ended up finishing this book in a day. One highlight of this book is how utterly terrifying it is. I read a lot of thrillers, but this one had me on the edge of my seat, terrified to look over my shoulder. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in April!

Rose and her son, Noah, 9, are packing up their house to move. The removal men have just left with items for storage. She finds herself disgusted with their grubbiness.

Noah insists on sleeping outside in his tent for just one more night before they leave like he used to do with his father, Lucas. Lucas had an aneuism and is in a hospital.

While Rose doesn’t want Noah to sleep outside, she caves into him and agrees. Rose is sleeping on a cot to be near the door in case Noah wants in, but several glasses of wine have made her very groggy so when she hears him calling her, she opens the door. He says he heard someone in the yard but insists on staying outside. She goes out with him to stay in the tent until he gets settles. That’s when an intruder strikes!

Rose and Noah experience a night of pure horror. Will they live through it?

There is no more I can say here without adding spoilers. Suffice to say that this is by far the most gory, violent, and totally horrifying book I have ever read. When I finished it, I was actually sick to my stomach. I am going to be generous to the author and give this book 3 stars for his imagination. Let me add: Mothers, sometimes you just have to say NO to your children! Would I recommend this book to another reader? Only if they enjoy this kind of stuff.

In The Removal Man, we follow Rose and her son, Noah, as navigate their worst nightmare - someone is in the house.

I love thrillers. I love scary movies. Simply put, I enjoy being scared.

I did not enjoy this book. There wasn't a single moment where I felt scared or that I couldn't walk away from the book and never pick it up again. Rose, the main character, annoyed me. I understand why she lacked confidence but it got to the point where it didn't feel real. It felt as though R.J. Parker was trying too hard to make her seem weak.

Our antagonist (I'm leaving details out so not to spoil anything) was definitely a sociopath and that's the best written part of this book. He truly did embody evil and is the only reason this book is getting 2 stars instead of 1. I did feel that his monologues were true to a narcissistic sociopath - but they did get a little breathy.

I don't like to give away spoilers when doing a review so it's hard to give my in-depth feelings but my final note would be that the storyline was just nuts. It didn't feel realistic to me at all.

At the end of the day, if you are looking for an edge of your seat thriller, I would recommend you go elsewhere.

The Removal Man is a tense and scary read that had me turning the pages as fast as I could!
Rose and her son Noah are moving house, Noah wants to spend one last night in the tent in the garden. Rose reluctantly lets him sleep there and promises to leave the back door open for him in case like times gone past when he’s been too scared to stay out. Her husband is in a coma and this is why she is having to downsize due to the medical costs. Rose also has a lot of emotions clashing as when her husband was taken Ill he was with a much younger student. All goes ok until Noah thinks he’s heard voices, going outside to settle him Rose sees a face at her bedroom window and her night from hell begins.
This book contains everything from dead bodies to murders to a lot of blood, there is a lot of chat from the removal man as he talks about the murders he has committed but I loved Roses resilience on getting the job in hand done to keep her and her son safe.
This was a tense read and I did enjoy it, probably not as much as the previous books I e read by this author but it’s still a good read.

The Removal Man by R. J. Parker

You hired professionals. You can trust them, right? Until you hear an odd noise in the night. You don't have neighbors and can't get to your phone. You need to protect your son and yourself. However you can.

"You'll figure out who it is, but the not the reason he's there. This book will keep you on your toes!"-Books and Pens on Green Gables

Moving is hard! Especially with a husband not there to help. But, Rose and her son, Noah, are making the best of it. When Noah begs to sleep outside in the tent one last time, Rose finally gives in and she'll sleep near the window with a watchful eye, in case he gets scared.

When Rose wakes up to pounding on the door she's a bit confused-maybe she had too much wine? But when she finally realizes what it is, poor Noah is scared-actually terrified-at the door. He had heard a strange sound-and had gotten locked out of the house!

When they investigate there is no one around. They fall asleep in the tent. But then, they hear it again. Rose is left to fight for Noah and herself as secrets are exposed and terror is all around her.

I was given this book to read and review.

OMG what did I just read? The description didn’t give much away so I didn’t really know what to expect. I hope you don’t read any spoilers because going in not knowing the story is the way to go.
The characters were well-defined, so even though I never connected to any of them they kept my interest. I think Rose made some mistakes in the beginning but she turned out to be a great main character.
The stellar writing drew me into the story, even though it took a while for it to really get going. The story was unexpected and once it started it never let up. It really kept me on the edge of my seat and I literally could not stop reading.
I finished this fast read at 1 am then couldn't fall asleep until 4 am because this book scared me. It was the perfect mix of creepy and scary.
4.5 strs rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

We meet Rose, who is moving properties with her young son, Noah. The night before the move, Noah wants to sleep in a tent in the garden. Rose isn’t overly keen, but relents. Noah isn’t out there long before he hears unusual noises, Rose goes to investigate and doesn’t see or hear anything. Then she does. And then it’s a fight to stay alive.

This was a really easy book to read. I read it in the space of a few hours, in one sitting. The characters were all good, and we start to learn each characters back story, and why they are where they are. The descriptions used to describe the settings were great, and really set the scene in the minds eye. Some moments in the book were quite heart stopping. A great, easy, quick read.

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for this ARC of The Removal Man by R.J. Parker.

Wow, what a ride. During the last night at their house before moving out, Rose agrees to let her son camp outside in the backyard. Hours later she is woken by her son banging on the window and soon discovers that someone else may be lurking in the backyard, beyond sight.

As that is simply the description I got, that is all I will say because I was definitely not expecting what came next. This was as creepy as it was heart pounding and I loved it. Not many books I will choose to lose my much needed sleep on, but this was so worth it in all the right ways. Don't start this at night because you will not only lose sleep, you will be jumping at every shadow and noise you hear.

The Removal Man really surprised me with how good it was. I intended to read a couple of chapters before bed and didn’t look up again until I hit chapter 20.

The beginning of the book was perfectly executed and actually a hint scary as I kept wondering what was happening. Once Rose and Noah found out the origin of the creepy noises, the book shifted into another level of terrifying.

I like that it was realistic about the fight scenes. They weren’t graceful, and they certainly didn’t feature someone being knocked out immediately.

To say anything else would be to venture into spoiler territory. If you love home invasion stories, get this book!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

Thank you #Netgalley for this advanced copy!

This book was not what I expected. We follow a mother and son who are preparing to move out of their secluded house. In the beginning we open with a trash/moving company talking to Rose. Rose is sure to state she is not alone that her husband would be home soon, though we will soon come to find out this isn't true. We quickly learn that Rose and Noah have been watched. Watched by someone she did not expect and who had many connections to her family. There were some extremes that I found hard to believe, but understand it was all a part of the story. Was not my favorite, but still kept me interested in wanting to see how it would play out and end.

I needed a book that didn’t require me to think. A book that swept me away with excitement and thrills. Well this was perfect.

A mom and her son are getting ready to move when the son wants to sleep out in the yard one last night before moving. He’s kind of a whiny kid but as the story moves along, I saw there were some reasons for him to be this way. The mom gives in but at some point a noise scares the son. Mom comes to tent to investigate and then on her way back to the house spots someone inside the house! That’s when the excitement begins and does not end until the epilogue! Once it got going I just kept reading. Time and responsibilities faded away while I was breathlessly reading for the next plot twist.

Well done! Kudos to the author. Just what I needed.

As the entire story takes place in one night, you need to brace yourself for an exhilarating wild ride. I could not put this book down, despite some graphic details (honestly had to stop myself from screaming) and nerve wrecking situations.
Rose, the proragonist, is a strong character and we can all relate to her overwhelming desire as a mother to protect her child, at any cost.
You know the train wreck that you can anticipitate but still won't look away from? This is exactly how this book made me feel! The chapters are short, gripping and full of twisty turns and suspense. This was a psychological thriller I really couldn't put down!
Pick it up if you are looking for an edgy yet gripping suspense thriller. The Removal Man is available now.

This was a very addictive unputdownable story about a mother and her ten year old son moving out of their home only to discover that they weren’t alone one night when her son asks to sleep outside in a tent. The first about 30% was a lot of “did you hear that?” “did you see that?” and then dismissing it and returning to their scheduled activities for the night. Then ultimately they realize they aren’t alone and the villain, well, he was pretty lame in my opinion. He wasn’t scary at all, he was super annoying and thought he was so damn smart. He was a smug a-hole who I wanted our female main character to get super strength and beat the daylights out of, but I digress. This story wasn’t anything new and it was quite predictable. The revelations and “twists” were mostly uninteresting. One twist shocked me, but the others were just… they were just there. What made me continue on was that this was fast paced and I had high hopes that the ending would make it worth it.. honestly it was just a lot of implausibilities, silly banter, annoying threats constantly made by our villain, and our hero just having lots of internal pep talks. I didn’t care about the characters, I didn’t think anything was all that crazy or interesting, and when it ended I was like “ok, that’s it?” I hate to leave a bad review, but I have to be honest here. This author has a lot of interesting sounding thrillers, but this one didn’t do it for me. Thank you so much NetGalley & HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

WOW!! What an action packed, edge of your seat thriller. Things started in the first chapter and never stopped. I couldn’t put it down and I barely blinked as I read the entire book in one sitting.

It’s amazing the whole story took place in one place and in one evening. I highly recommend you read this intense thriller. I won’t spoil it by giving any detail so just read it and enjoy. You won’t be disappointed by this book.

A thousand thank you’d to One More Chapter for the invite to read this edge of your seat thriller. Held my breath through much of it, maybe because I’m claustrophobic!!
