I really enjoyed this book however; my biggest issue was that there were a few times when the timeline of events didn’t quite add up or there would be a time jump and it wasn’t clear immediately.

Colin is a contractor and single dad to an adorable little boy, Liam and Lyla is turning a house she inherited into a B&B. Lyla is known to be flaky and unable to follow through so no one really believes in her ability to take on this project. Colin tries to stay away from her as he works on her project, but they soon become close. Colin’s wife died in a car accident and he is trying to compensate by needing control in his life, Lyla is the anthesis of this in most people’s eyes. Colin quickly learns she is not and uncontrolled as everyone says and helps her see her own worth and defends her to others. However, when something goes wrong, he is quick to say she is too flaky or unresponsible to be in his life. Eventually, he sees that he was making excuses and works to rebuild their relationship.

Lyla was flaky going from one job to the next without really knowing what she wanted so she shouldn't have been surprised when her family wasn't very supportive of turning her inherited house into a B&B. It's not like she had experience working for one before. Colin needs someone steady in his life as a single father running a construction business. They can't help their attraction to each other, but she has no concept of time stopping to get donuts when she's already late for an important meeting with her building inspector and Colin was a jerk to her multiple times making assumptions and getting mad at her. I wasn't sure if he and this book could redeem themselves in my eyes. But when something bad happens he pulls out all the stops to make her dream come true. I loved Liam's precocious little animal loving son Liam.

Small Town Single Dad is a sweet, small town, opposites attract romance. I enjoyed reading this well written book. Lyla is betting her entire inheritance on her B&B and trying to convince family and her town that she was going to stick with this project. Colin, a widower with a young son, is the contractor for her remodel. The path to love is very bumpy for Colin who values stability above all else and the carefree Lyla. This story grabbed me from the beginning and I just kept reading straight through.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I must say it was a good choice. Lyla has been flighty all of her life so when she decides to use her inheritance to create a bed and breakfast for the Windy Lake area, she has little to no support. Colin is the contractor for the B&B. He is a widower with a young son and is not looking for a relationship. He finds himself attracted to Lyla for the first time since his wife died. Will he be able to overcome his past and learn to love again?

I found the woman was a character with a maturity level of a 13 year old, and I absolutely could not warm up to her. The characterization of her family was inconsistent so I could not figure out them, or her relationship to them. I gave up about 25% through the book.

The Road to Happiness is very bumpy.

The Colin and Lyla are full of love but also have fears and doubts that get in their way. Family members have their concerns and aren't always as supportive as they should be. I found this story to be very compelling.
