Charlie Rhodes is struggling. She thought finding her family would fix everything. It hasn’t, and the threat that’s cast a long shadow over her life is only getting larger. Still, when an opportunity arises to go to Savannah—one of her bucket-list cities—she jumps at the chance.
Savannah was made famous by ghosts, but five missing women—and the return of only one body—seems to point to a different sort of culprit. Whatever is going on, it’s weird… and it’s only getting weirder.
Charlie’s mind keeps wandering to the friend she lost, who keeps haunting her dreams, but her determination never wavers. That’s why she hits the ground hot and hard… and the answers that start unspooling do so at a fantastic rate.
There’s just one problem: Whatever evil is haunting Savannah, it’s more than ghosts. Actually, there might be two problems, because the ghosts in Savannah are multiplying exponentially and nobody knows if it’s tied to the missing women.
Charlie has enemies coming out of the woodwork, although the big one is elusive. The answers she seeks are close, and they might just be provided by an unlikely source. It will take all of them working together, every faction in town, to beat back a terrific foe.
Don’t skip to the end in this one, because the ultimate twist is about to descend. Prepare yourself because it’s going to be a heckuva ride.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
And all the repeatedness, I love you so much I love you so much blah blah it feels like I read whole passages in a previous book. I don't like that she's letting casey/the parents dictate how they need her affection and attention, that's not ok - do they not have text? Jeez. I do like the actual story/plot, but would cut out about a third of the interactions between Charlie and Jack.
Another step in Charlie’s journey of self discovery. However, once again I felt that the relationship between Jack and Charlie gets in the way of the story - the plot, the magic and the characters don’t get fully explored, because the “relationship” has become the focus. Added to that is all the angst with Charlie’s newly discovered birth parents and the Legacy Foundation team of which Jack and Charlie are supposedly members, was barely in the picture. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of this series and find it dispiriting that the initial freshness and excitement has seemingly become lost. The series seems to me to have become more about, man meets woman, lots of interdependence in journey towards big proposal and marriage. Not the sort of magic I had anticipated although I persevere in hope.
entertaining urban fantasy/paranormal cozy mystery series
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series/urban fantasy series. iPhone cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. A bit more than a cozy mystery more along the lines of an urban fantasy. Charlie Rhodes is a powerful magical being. She is a mixture of multiple things such as a witch a mage and much more. She’s learning more and more every day about who and white she is and what she can do. A battle between her and the dark which symbol is somewhere on the horizon. Along with her friends at the Legacy foundation they go out and investigate paranormal and odd occurrences in mysteries. Such as Bigfoot the chupacabra zombies megalodon sharks witches vampires werewolves a whole lot. This time they are down in Savannah Georgia investigating a group of missing women suspected of being taken by ghosts. Read on and find out what’s going on and how they figure out the truth behind the mystery.
I can't deal with this girl no more, she expects people to spoon feed her on what to do rather than go search for answers on her past and hold on to stupid crap like( her parents give her up to save her life ) this adult child is just in her own world and don't even notice all her family die to save her and that she still grew up with loving parents and she still have her bio ones who wants to know her but she acting all in her feeling as if it didn't hurt them to loose her.
My only issue with this series is that Charlie always asks how to do something. she never instinctively tries to do anything. Everyone keeps telling her how powerful she is, but she never tests it on her own. it's always in a time of crisis. She hasn't gone out to get books, she hasn't asked Bay, Poet, Zoe, or anyone else she's met along the way to help guide her. she hasn't even really asked Harley.
How many times does Harley have to tell her to work on keeping her mind closed during rest for her to get it? How many times does Sybil or any other nefarious person/entity have to enter her dreams for her to figure out that they aren't normal dreams?
I like the things that happen in this series by way of adventures they go on, but I don't like how inept she is. How did she not know Laura wasn't Laura? I just don't understand how she can be so powerful, yet barely show any interest in her abilities, try to use them or make herself stronger or sense anything around her unless its something obvious. I would understand if she didn't have access to her powers until she was older like Zoe, Hadley or Stormy Morgan. Even Bay's powers grew once she got older. But Charlie says that her father (adoptive) tried to train her a bit as a kid. I just don't get it. she just muddles along with no real interest in actually using her abilities. She seems to need someone to tell her exactly what to do before she even tries.
She has someone coming after her and she doesn't even try.... UGH!
If you've been reading the series all along, you are in for some serious plot twists in this latest book. Charlie and Jack are in Savannah to work on a case of five missing women. They all disappeared from the same hotel without a trace, until the first woman turns up by the river behind the hotel, dead. It's hard to focus on the case with Harley still gone, and Sybil's soon return hanging over their heads. Then, there's Laura's strange behavior. She is definitely not firing on all cylinders, and Charlie hasn't been able to think of a way to help her get back to her usual obnoxious self. Meanwhile, Charlie has completely put her parents on the backburner, and they are worried and confused, with her brother caught in the middle. What's a girl to do? If it's Charlie, she'll take things as they come, and figure it out one step at a time. Unfortunately, her time is running out, and she is going to need to stop winging it, and seriously get her head in the game (as everyone keeps telling her), if she wants herself and her loved ones to survive. If you are enjoying the series, you're going to love this addition to it! If you haven't tried it yet, be sure to start with the first book, and read them in order. I know you're going to love Charlie, Jack and company!
This was worth the wait. I enjoyed seeing the fallout after the asylum incident, but I had no clue that there was a sting at the end of this tale that was such big revelation that it stirs things up, not only for this book, but for both the previous book and the next book too.
As always, Charlie is a fun character to follow but as she is learning to deal with her new found parents, and the trauma of the last case, you see a more somber and introspective Charlie. The current case was intriguing and had a dark twist that I really liked. Then there is the absolute shock of a revelation that throws everyone for a loop. Can’t wait to read the next book.
It's Savannah time with The Legacy Foundation heading to a hotel to investigate the disappearance of guest several weeks ago. Which turns into a far more difficult case when her body has turned up but freshly killed.. where has she been? The one turns into five missing women but Charlie and Jack hope somehow to find and rescue the remaining ladies but will they be able to figure out what is going on in time?
Laura is indifferent to everything and only very occasionally shows her normal disparaging demeanor. Everyone is at a loss how to handle the situation following the asylum case although when they finally manage to get a break through via Madame Tutu and the truth unravels it's enough to rock them all to their very foundations.
I have loved this entire series but this book fell flat. It focused more on Charlie and Jack and just felt very repetitive. Every chapter there were reassurances about how much he loved her and her constant worrying about Harley despite multiple conversations got old. Charlie also seemed extra dumb and needed more hand holding this time than ever before. Then there was just the lack of focus on the supernatural element. It reminds me of the show Supernatural; first seasons focused on all the different urban legends and then the latter focused on just angels and demons and got stuck.
Jack hypes her up, always talks about how strong she is; but all I ever read is a very whiny, needy FMC. There was almost no team interaction which I have enjoyed in all the past books. The witty banter and arguing over if it is or isn’t a supernatural baddie. The family is annoying as well. She wanted to know her birth family, finds them and then keeps them at bay always. Just felt trite and repetitive and I had to convince myself to finish the damn book.
I really like the main storyline running throughout the books and the "mystery of the week" too but Charlie and Jack act like teenagers. Whenever they start talking about how Jack was so mean when they met I know I can usually skip over the next page or two and not miss anything. It's tedious and not even funny to me anymore. They both act so childish sometimes, especially Charlie. She acts like a churlish 16 year old half the time. I feel like the series started off stronger. Again, I still really like the storyline, just wish Charlie would stop being so childish, and she and Jack could start acting like grownups they're supposed to be.
Ok, I'm little frustrated with series. When is Charlie going to be more confident in using her magic? I wish AML write scenes showing Charlie having fun using her magic instead of when she is dire need of it. Also why were Casey and Hanna not mentioned on the plane ride to Savanna and they just popped all of sudden? Then the big showdown just deflated. I was expecting more action and ghost fights. What's up with constantly affirming Charlie is this all powerful witch but the readers don't see that put into action. I did enjoy the twist at the end and the mystery. I hope the next book in the series is gets better.
I have read many of this authors series and really enjoyed them. I loved the earlier books in this series, when things were a little zany and crazy. Millie and Charlie together are my favorite thing. But I am so sick of all the crossover characters from other books, the redundancy of asking Harley the same questions, and just the general air of depression that hangs around since Sybil. Why does Charlie seem less able to handle her stuff instead of being that strong person from the first couple books?
Love, love, love this series!! From the first book I was hooked. The characters are fun and interesting. Generally interacting together well even as some struggle to keep part of the team in the dark about the magic Charlie and Casey have. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds. Will there be a big reveal of Charlie and Casey's relationship and powers? What truths will she discover in Colorado about herself, her family history, and developing her formidable powers? Lot's going on you don't want to miss out!
I'm a huge fan of Amanda M. Lee and have read almost all of her books and I never thought I would write this but I was horribly disappointed in this book. It felt disjointed from the beginning and I was absolute sick with how Charlie's character was portrayed as a weak ninny! Lots of times she's whiny and clingy but never so whiny and weak minded! I'm sorry I have to give this a bad review but I felt it was true. I figured her story was being wound down and just waiting for the big battle with Sybil.
The two primary complaints I have about Lee's writing are the inconsistencies in her stories and her grammatical errors. In the previous book, Charlie is given a clear rationale for her enemy's pursuit of her. At the beginning of this volume, that reason appears to have been forgotten. Similar errors occur throughout all Lee's series. I will continue to enjoy the books, as Lee has excellent stories, but a capable editorial team and Lee's use of a series "bible" would make the reading experience more enjoyable.
I enjoyed the book very much. Charlie & Jack reminded me of my husband & me. We were married 61 years when he died, every one of them full of romance, fun, happiness, some heart break too. Reading the book made me so lonesome for him+. Charlie & Jack make a great pair. You can feel the love and concern & protectiveness' each has for the other. They have some great friends; and some terrible enemies. Loved Madame Tutu. Definitely looking forward to the next book!
Another good book in the Charlie series. She is developing her abilities, trying to form a relationship with her birth family, searching for answers and continuing to bond with Jack. The plot and subplots move quickly with twists that make it hard to put the book down. I can't wait for the next book!
This was another good read, by Miss Lee, I enjoyed it, although the reason for the four stars instead of five was because of the heroines constant whining and constant need for assurance, after all the trouble she's been through you would think she'd have little more faith in herself and not have to be babied every inch of the way.
Well now that ending was… wow totally not what I was thinking I love that. Charlie and Jack are heading to Savannah with the team to find missing women that may or may not involve ghosts. Will Chris really find his proof finally??? I really love this series.
Charlie is racing to find answers more to her past than to the current problem that brought them to Savannah of course it all is intertwined. In some ways this was the scariest book so far. We are almost there to the point of uncovering the secret of Charlie’s past. I hope that doesn’t mean the end of the series.
Well this book definitely didn't brush over what happened to Laura. As we head to Savannah, and gets a glimpse of her beauty, we are immersed with ghost but also more! Charlie has more backstory and what we see with Laura is a surprise but also has sadness. I can't wait to see how Charlie and Jack handle their next adventure!!
Of course I was not disappointed to say the least with this fanfuckentastic book I’m only disappointed it’s over! I just can’t seem to get enough. I have not watched tv since Covid changed the world I thank the Goddess for Amanda m Lee for giving me fantastic motion pictures in my head daily!
This book is definitely worth the read. A lot happens, some a bit shocking. A couple new ghost seeing characters, whether just for this book or possibly brief mentions in future books were great so hopefully mentioned again. Looks like some more answers are forthcoming and some were answered. I enjoyed this book a lot.
I really like the story but Jack and Charlie are really annoying they are not cute as the author thinks ,they are cloying and sickly and if someone touched me as much as Jack touches Charlie I would break all their fingers. I really want to follow to the end of the series but don't think I can cope with those two
Awesome fast paced read with lots of twists and turns, ghosts are taking over Savannah and something has taken over Laura, can Charlie and Jack figure it out while staying out of trouble with everyone and everything else great storyline and awesome characters, snarky humor between characters loved the book.
I love all Amanda Lee’s books. And this series is a favorite. And this book was great too. Although I was saddened by the outcome for Laura. I enjoyed that character. And sympathized with it. Just a bit too tragic for me. I read these books mostly because they make me smile. This one was a downer at the end. But I can’t wait for the next one.

Book 11 finds the team in Savannah, Georgia, with thousands of ghosts and one super ghost. Charlie and Jack find trouble and make paranormal friends wherever they go. There Is some humor, murder, disappearing women, danger, angst, fear, and revelations. Highly entertaining.
I found Charlie to be a bit out of character in this one. She was whiny and annoying. She's so unfocused and keeps saying she doesn't know what more to do. I guess I just don't like that someone who claims to be so powerful she doesn't need protecting constantly wants everything to be spelled out and her hand held through it all.
This one was so great! The story drew me in and I was unbelievably sucked in to Savannah with the team! Couldn't put it down until it was over! AML knocked this one out of the park! I can't wait for the next installment!!!
