I went into this thinking it wouldn't be good and wow it was great and proved me wrong. The writing however was subpar at times, but the story was amazing and I was sucked into the demon world of Nadirn. This story follows Mina as she takes a night run to some rock music. A dog with red eyes startles her along a curve and she gets chased, stumbling down into some water where she is then pulled into a demonic world of ruby skies and blackened trees with monsters along every turn. She is captured and thrown into a dungeon where she meets Vadric and a whirlwind of intense attraction consumes them both. Nothing is how it seems.

The smut in this was fantastic. Truly, some of the best I've ever read—it was thrilling. However, the story truly takes the cake. This has easily become one of my new favorites, it being the worst and the best thing I've ever read.

**2.8/5 stars** DNF 30%

Yeah, I think the best for me is to DNF this book. I used to have the 'completionist' mentality where I'd finish reading a book no matter how bored or how much I didn't like it...but as I get older, I just don't have it in me to achieve that, as it always puts me in a reading slump. Considering I feel the slump creeping on me, I might as well stop now. I still want to give my thoughts on the story though.

First of all, I thought the beginning was intriguing and quick to pull you in. I felt the tension of the unknown, the world building was okay-ish and overall, the author had the right ideas. The thing is, as the story went, I started feeling extremely bored and unstimulated, even with the smut and blooming lust between the main characters. I didn't really feel the connection between them. One of my many pet peeves when it comes to the forced proximity trope is when it makes excuses and oh! convenient scene where the MCs absolutely have to share a bath else it'll be cold water for the other (like they can't wash quickly, the water won't get cold after 5min). Stuff like that. I know, it's the point and it's not that big of a deal but it does make me roll my eyes when that happens. Be cleverer about it is all I'm asking.

Secondly, I just found that, while stuff was happening story-wise and between the characters, I didn't feel engaged or really interested. If the heroine isn't compelling, I lose interest and am instantly bored. Which is why I prefer Dual POV books because with both POVs, there's more dynamism, nuances, emotions, motives, etc. in the story. Love & Monsters had Dual POV but when I scrolled through the chapters to see how often the perspective would change and there were only 5 or 6 chapters out of 35 that was focused on the hero, the rest was the heroine (who I really couldn't care less about at that point), I gave up.

Overall, I thought it was an okay read but not really stimulating. Which is partly why I decided to DNF this book. Might try again sometime?

Ok listen up people! I've got some tea about this book that needs to be said ASAP. I read this book on inkitt, thought it was mediocre at best, and moved on with my life. Until I clicked on a book called Illuminating The Dark Prince by another inkitt author called Datura Moon.

Let me share with you about Illuminating The Dark Prince to see how it compares. It's a sequel book but bear with me here:

There is a prologue that has no relevance to this review.

A blond girl named Lucilia is driving with her boyfriend and friend through a haunted town. They stop to investigate one of the abandoned houses and Lucilia dips because she doesn't like scary things. She wanders into the woods where she finds a stream. In this stream her foot gets caught on an enchanted necklace around a corpse in the water and she is transported to another world called The Abyss after becoming trapped beneath the surface. In this world there is a black and red sky and it's always nighttime.

In The Abyss, she winds up in a frightening forest full of monsters. She immediately sees a huge beast and starts running through the trees for her life. While running she gets chased by a pack of wolves. A very large monster man named Valarendrik then saves the day by slaying the wolves and rescuing her. Valarendrik knows that she is a human because of the first book, rides away with her on his zombie horse back to his cave home, cleans her wounds, and has her sleep on him. He performs a spell that allows them to speak the same language. He informs her that there is a demon who can take her back to earth, but they have to wait for him to visit.

At this point there is a forced proximity trope as the two become friends. Valarendrik becomes her protector and provides for her in The Abyss. Feelings develop and Lucilia finds out that Valarendrik doesn't know what kissing is. She teaches him and finds out that he has a very long tongue. Lucilia then gets her period. Still in The Abyss. Valarendrik scents her blood which leads to a steamy river scene. We find out at this point that Valarendrik's eyes turn solid black when he is aroused. Valarendrik has shadow powers and uses them like tentacles similar to tail-play.

Valarendrik gives her a fancy dress so she has something else to wear. They do the dirty and then Lucilia finds out that he is the rightful prince to a kingdom in The Abyss. This kingdom is ruled by his wicked mother and a creepy creature that I cannot recall the name of. Lucilia winds up preggers and the wicked queen wants to steal the child.

At this point in the book, Datura Moon added a note in which she low-key calls Ms. Flanagan out stating that she feels she was being "buzzfeed-style ripped-off" to quote. Datura Moon pointed out that there are phrases and descriptions that allegedly are reworded from Illuminating The Dark Prince. I wasn't sure which book came first, but after a bit of snooping, it turns out Illuminating The Dark Prince was started 8 months before Love & Monsters. Both books were apparently unfinished at the time of the accusations, so Datura Moon put her book on hold until Raven Flanagan finished Love & Monsters.

I'm not accusing Ms. Flanagan of anything nor am I spreading misinformation. I'm not going to state whether I personally think this is plagiarism. However, I am posting a few of the similarities because I feel that they should be noticed and known by her readers. I'm only posting this review to this site because Raven Flanagan deletes comments that mention Datura Moon's book on Inkitt.

Have a great day happy readers!

Take a historical romance where the chic gets kidnapped by the enemy and they end up boning while in captivity/on their long journey, that is this story. Only she falls through a portal, bemoans being in this red sky world, but gets dickmatized.

Mina annoyed me. She came off as too timid. And this is coming from someone who reads a whole lot of smut, there was no need for whole chapters of smut when the story really wasn't moving forward.

One thing it did answer though, I always say I'm not interested in time traveling to the past/an alternate non-advanced time period, cause I'm African/black and also a world with no tampons/proper pads? Get me out. Atleast Mina was covered, on the last front, lickity split.

So, not bad, not good, I think I was more frustrated with she was told you can never go back and just took it without really trying to do anything about it.

This was exactly what it promised to be, and I’m 100% on board with kinky demon sex if it’s all like this! My only complaint is the plot line of an evil ruler really wasn’t fleshed out at all. Small complaint though because I definitely didn’t read this for the plot…

This book had a very simplistic writing style, which made it super easy to get through. It was also quite fast-paced and pretty enjoyable. But oh my goodness, the smut. This book had a lot of it, and honestly, there weren't very many chapters that actually didn't have some sort of smut in it. It took me a bit to get used to because at the beginning, there really wasn't much a storyline, but closer towards the end, the story really picked up and got more enjoyable.
This story is about Mina, who fell through a portal on a late night jog. She's taken captive where she meets a demon who she's imprisoned with, and that's really all you need to know going in.
I have to admit I don't like instalove, I find it kind of annoying and this book was no exception as it is quite instalovey and it did bother me in the beginning. I understand the circumstances, though, and I have to admit it did kind of work for the story. Overall, this book was a really fast-paced, really easy, and smutty read that I did enjoy, and I wouldn’t be opposed to reading more from this author.

96% smut, 4% plot - literally something happens every 3-5 pages.

If that's what you're looking for - then this book is for you. I like to have a little bit more plot. Not by much, but enough, so I feel like I'm reading a book and not a script of a new hentai movie.

I did like the ''another dimension'' aspect and the fact that the heroine is actually mourning the loss of her family (yes, it is only for a couple of hours, but still, there is something). Unlike other books, oh, I'm in another dimension, great, I had nothing back there, I'm not going to miss anything. Really? You're not going to miss mac'n'cheese?

That's all I have to say :)

This was smuttastic, with little hints of violence and monster politics interspersed throughout.
And I loved it.
Vadric is an 8 foot demon with a gentle heart and a monstrous appetite.
I love him. He’s so sweet and sexy and dirty.

This book was just really hot and I was totally into it.
Don’t go into this thinking it’s gonna have this deep complex plot though. The plot is secondary to the smut.
I’m not complaining though, because it’s hot as hell.

This book was way out of my comfort zone in the romance category. I'm all about any supernatural and humans but a human and a demon (that actually looks like a monster demon) is just weird for me. Lol

I actually would have given this 3 stars but this book is RIDDLED with errors and it was incredibly irritating to read them all, especially during the spicy scenes. It's almost like there was no editor and one is desperately needed.

Had a great time reading this book! If you want a romance with lots of smut and tender moments, this is a for you!! Also, zero miscommunication. It’s a beautiful thing. Only complaint is that I enjoyed these characters and the world so much, I wish there was more to it! This will be a cozy reread for me in the future.

You know I was actually looking forward to this a lot cause I’m in a monster mood and the plot sounded like me shit. Sadly this was very poorly written. It had potential and good ideas but there was like no dialogue between characters, Mina was freaking annoying, and the plot was not written well. It was probably 85% smut. Some good smut some bleh. This could’ve been way more creative and there could’ve been way more to it. Anyways even tho it wasn’t good I got through it. Vadric does sound hot tho lol. Get it gorl. But yeah just written really poorly and not good but hey there were some moments. Vadric was a hot mother fucker at times hehe like that first scene on her period omgod

(Edit: I wanna clarify that I don’t expect smut to have a plot to the same degree as non-erotic books, but this story still fell flat. I didn’t care about these characters or believe in their sudden romance. I almost think I would have enjoyed it more had they not claimed to love each other and just accepted their lust).

Someone advertised this book on tiktok, and I decided to give it a go. This was my first mistake.

The typo in the very first paragraph is a good representation of the editing that went into this book. There just could not have been multiple sets of eyes on this story—there were countless mistakes and slip-ups and sentences with poor syntax. Beyond that, there were frequent mistakes in tense (switching from past tense to present tense).

I love a good erotic novel, and I’m not picky about the plot, but this story just sort of…didn’t have a plot. For the entire first half of the book there is no direction and barely a hint of what’s happening. Then the last half is a war that lasts about 10 pages (but spans six months) and a questionable combination of silly tropes.

Simply put, the story is not written well. I was constantly brought out of the story by the ridiculousness that was pacing and sentence structure. One of the sentences, no joke, is, “After years of lessons, he became one of the best kissers in the world.” There was some…cognitive dissonance, to say the least, between the subject matter (porn) and the writing style.

Slightly spoilery, but here are some of the kinks/tropes in this book, in case any of them are of particular interest to you:
-tail play
-pregnancy
-insta-love
-fated mates
-masochism
-(slight) exhibition
-found family
-monster eroticism

Genre: Fantasy, Monster Romance
Book Length: Novel
POV: Mostly Mina
Setting: Nadirn, a demon realm
Hero: Vadric is a powerful demon. He is 8 feet tall, has dark blue skin, yellow eyes, shoulder length black hair, horns, fangs, claws and a wickedly sinful tail. He is massive in size and has attractive features.
Heroine: Mina is a human that falls into a portal while out jogging and transports into this realm that is full of scary monsters and creatures that nightmares are made of. Mina is in her mid 20s and has short blonde hair and green eyes.
Endearment: Little One
Spice Level: High
Frequency of Spice: High
Angst Level: Low
Standalone/Duet/Series: Standalone
Cliffhanger: No
Epilogue: Yes, very sweet and satisfying.
My Review: This was my first monster romance and I really enjoyed it. Vadric and Mina had wonderful chemistry and their connection with each other felt genuine and very sweet. The spice was amazing and although it was strange to imagine a human woman with this massive demon, it somehow worked and I loved them together. I will definitely be checking out more from this author. Great story, pacing was perfect and I loved the characters.

As your friendly neighborhood will-read-anything gal, I had to read this. Girl falls through a portal and ends up in a dungeon with an eight-foot tall demon with a massive schlong? Okay, sign me up.

My girl Mina made me giggle. She had one thing on her mind at all times and it rhymed with tick. She had like... a few freakouts about being in a hellscape, but mostly she was focused on the big demon who wanted to drink her blood- but in a sexy way, I guess.

Honestly, this book was pretty good. There were a few spelling errors, but they were so minor that it didn't really bother me. And the spice was... actually so well written. Like I'm shook over here. If you want a quick fonster-mucker book then this is perfect for you. Plot wasn't like... very important in the grand scheme of this book, but that didn't subtract from it being entertaining af.

I was plenty surprised by this book.

Book 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Steam 4.5 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters ✔✔✔✔

Mina and Vadric were perfect together. The little human and the large monster who I might add is blue has horns and a cat like tail 🐈‍⬛. Ok so I absolutely loved him he was broody, snarly and had a good monster temperament.

The story was basically about Vadric getting back what was taken away from him. I don't want to say any more since it would take away the entire plot of the story. Especially since their "bonding" was really the main focus of the book and not really the plot.

The entire book is the both of them learning eachother and falling in love. Soooo much sxc time. All im going to say is tongue and tail. I absolutely enjoyed it their time together, but did wish that we got more of Vadric's POV and not as much of Mina.

The 1st encounter between them both had me really doing a metaphorical double take since I wasn't expecting that at all. Nothing really gets me surprised now a days but that totally surprised me 😳😅 soooo if you have any triggers that involves a female 🩸 I would be careful.

The ending was so sweet and I loved that they both got the big family they wanted.

Recomend this book 💯

2.75*

I don’t often rate books feeling generous with the rating I have provided. Love and Monsters is one of those few exceptions.

Unfortunately, this book failed in so many different areas and aspects and, at its root, the writing style was simply tragic. I don’t think I would’ve continued reading this novel much past the first chapter, had it not been for my determination to not leave a book unfinished, but also (and mainly) what had led me to pick up this book in the first place: the fact that this novel contained some decent smut (or so I’d been told).

Now, solely rating the smut of this novel, I’d probably give it a 4* rating. However, I don’t feel like it’s asking too much for a book (smut or no) to be well-written and well-developed. Unfortunately, it’s the other aspects of this novel that have decreased my rating so considerably. Based on every other aspect within this novel, I don’t think I would’ve rated it higher than a 1.5*…so, I had to round and come to a more middle-ground ultimate rating for this book.

Mina’s character really annoyed me throughout most of the novel. She was timid and terrified, which was perfectly fine in the very beginning. But it takes Mina a long time to stop crying, shaking, trembling, or disassociating from the situation and circumstances she now found herself in (even though she was never harmed, tortured, raped, demeaned, etc). This girl had 2 – and only 2 – personality traits: scarred and aroused. That’s it. Those two emotions almost fully encapsulated her time in her new world.

It also annoyed me that Mina never even thought about trying to make an escape and find her way back home (much less made any attempt). She was left to her own devices in the library, for example, and never once tried to look up information about portals (creating them, finding them, using them, etc.) nor did she try to find information on anyone who had made an attempt to study or use the portals to go home or even to explore other worlds. She took her new twist of fate laying down. She had no spunk or spark or fight at all (even if this was something she couldn’t have accomplished in the end). She’s an extremely passive character.

Vadrick was fine. He was sweet and protective of the human that was shoved into his cell and I didn’t mind his character. I think my biggest complaint about him was that he was lacking when it came to any rich development of his character.

The romance between Mina and Vadrick was poorly developed and there was no real reason for anything between them to begin. Mina is terrified of the monster that’s locked in a cell with her and there’s no reason for her to want to jump into a sexual relationship with Vadrick. It’s not necessary to her survival and she finds his appearance interesting and strange, but not immediately attractive. They do little to get to know each other and there’s not a jot of build-up between them. There was no real tension or yearning. They simply jumped into bed together their first night, and the deal was done.

Again though, the smut made up for some of the underwhelming and unconvincing aspects of the “love” that was developing between them. With only their first encounter being the exception, the smut was almost worth reading the rest of the novel. It was fun and full of spice.

As a side note, the first time Mina and Vadrick fool around, however, was not a scene I enjoyed or that made any sense.

The plot of this novel was a hinderance. This story is ALL smut and there is little beyond that. Everything else was extremely predictable and skimmed over. There was little to no world-building, there was no complexity, no depth or substance, and nothing was fleshed-out in any real way. Additionally, there were several grammatical errors or odd word-choices, which just detracted from the novel even more.

As I said, this book had its “good” moments, to be sure, but if you’re looking for anything that’s even mildly well-written or has a decent plotline, I’d probably skip this book or put it on hold for now.

DNF at 14%.

This is quite possibly the worst book I've ever tried to read. It was a struggle to get as far as I did but I made it 45 pages in (38 not including the title, contents and TW pages) before giving up.

This really felt like bad fanfic written by a horny 9th grader who just discovered commas but didn't have access to grammar check.

Seriously, why is there a comma before nearly every proposition? Almost every use of "and" or "but" comes with an unnecessary comma before it.

In the 45 pages I managed to struggle through, I flagged 92 obvious grammatical errors and 67 of those were unnecessary commas. That's not even including the incredibly cringey writing. For example, on page 8 (page 2 of actual content) we have "The perspiration on my brow began pouring profusely down my brow".

The story so far seems pretty thin and it's mostly crying and describing things in the blandest ways possible. Even on the off chance that the story could possibly get more interesting, I can't get past the horrible writing and deplorable grammar.

Terrible. Awful. Nightmare fuel to the English language.

If you like to be able to actually read your smut, run as fast as you can to literally anything else.

This was much fluffier than expected.
Don't get me wrong, there was still more smut than anything else, but I found their relationship rather sweet.
While the plot is not very flashed out and we never even meet the "villain", I won't hold it against the book, because honestly? Nobody reads it for that anyway. xD
Vadric was a sweet giant that reminded me a bit of a cat. I liked that a lot. While Mina was quite timid most of the time, it didn't annoy me and, in my opinion, her behaviour made sense. Especially considering she literally fell into a different world.

It was a quick read that doesn't beat around the bush (you know what I mean) and kept me entertained. If you're looking for a quick monster-romance, that's the book for you.

Now THIS is the monster romance I know and love. Flanagan offers a perfect balance between storytelling and smut. Though the chemistry comes (no pun intended) early, the romance didn’t feel rushed. The plot was equally fascinating, making me want to return to the dark underbelly of this universe again soon.

Love & Monsters is fast-paced, thrilling, and so much fun. In store for you is:

- Portal Fantasy
- Forced Proximity
- Blood Play
- One Horse
- Secret Identity
- Warring Kingdoms
- Fated Mates
- and a HEA!

2.5/5 ⭐️ 4/5🌶🌶🌶🌶

I was so hype for this book after seeing everyone in the monster lover community talking about it. I really wanted to love this, but was just so disappointed. For the first time in years, I struugggled through a book. The writing in this at times reminded me of my teen years on wattpad. It felt like the author had a series of points they wanted to get to and those were fairly alright writing-wise, but everything in between just needed to be better. The male and female lead (Vadrick and Mina) felt so unnatural in the beginning, their relationship so vague and confusing in between sex that just happened and didn’t really seem in character.

The author tried to make Vadrick and his world mysterious, but it just didn’t work when all the world building dialogue was skipped over and Mina showed no interest in unraveling the major clues smacked in her face. She has one moment where she’s kind of like, “Huh, that’s odd.” And then immediately moves on and never thinks about it again! This just made her seem very air-headed, and this impression worsens when she constantly vacillates between terror and horny, trust and no trust. She treats every sexual encounter like the first for a while and it just feels like every step forward with her then takes two steps back. Then when she finally suddenly likes the terror and the horny and trusts Vadrick, it feels unearned and very sudden. Mina’s head was a very annoying place to be for the entire first half of the book.

The one saving grace here for me was the male lead, Vadrick. He is glorious and sexy and deserved better. Sadly we don’t get much character building for him at all (or for anyone) and by the end we still don’t know much about him. Shame, really.

I went into this book thinking I wouldn’t like it, but boy was I wrong! This book was awesome! The only reason it wasn’t a 5 star, best of all time rating is because (1) there were some grammatical issues that I couldn’t see past and (2) the continued description of how the hero was a demon. I get it, he was a demon and he had a mega wiener - I didn’t need to reread that every 2 pages. Even with both of those things, this book rocked! Truly so good. I can’t share anymore about the plot, because it would ruin the book, but I would 100% recommend reading this!
