Twenty years isn’t enough to erase the sins of the past—but the future is even more terrifying in this thrilling read perfect for fans of Megan Collins and Julia Heaberlin.

In 1997, Eve Foster’s daughter, Kelsey, runs away to New Mexico and vanishes without a trace. Eve is convinced that she’s the victim of a serial killer who’s been hunting women in the region—but Kelsey’s body is never found.

Years later, Eve dies, leaving everything to her adopted twin daughters. The majority of the wealthy estate in Vermont goes to Lisa, the “good daughter,” while Connie inherits only a small stipend and a property in New Mexico. Connie, often the target of Eve's cruelty, suspects this was another of her mother's vindictive games.

Connie arrives in New Mexico to find a small, dilapidated red house in the desert, and the home’s mysterious caretaker, Jet Montgomery, living in a shack on the property. She learns there's been a string of women murdered in the area—murders that no one will talk about.

Before Connie can get to the truth, her mother’s sadistic mind games come creeping back from the grave—and now the danger becomes all too real. With a serial killer on the loose and a trove of deadly secrets coming to the surface, Connie is in a desperate race to save herself and what little is left of her shattered family.

Bleak, dark, twisty mind games that keep pulling the rug out from under you! As so many jaw dropping, shocking, mind blowing chapters later you keep asking yourself WTH I just read!

The plot line is so interesting, captivating, gripping! It picks up your interest from the first chapter, making you hate with ever fiber of Eve Foster’s being as you keep reading about her bizarre, sociopathic behavior and her amazement to play dark, dirty games with her adopted daughters to ruin their lives.

The book goes back and between two lines: at the first timeline takes place New Mexico, 1997 : where Eve Foster at the age 30, looking for 16 years old daughter Kelsey who ran away from the house and last seen in this place. From the opening of the book we understand she’s captured by a dangerous man.

And in the present time we met with Constance: one of the twin girls adopted and raised ( mostly tortured by sick games) by Eve. Since she’s sixteen, Eve sends Constance to different big cities, leaving her alone with a little money as a prey for dangerous people. If she can’t survive by living in the streets and calls her back, Eve locks her in the basement for days to punish her. It seems like she teaches her to sharpen her survival skills.

And now the year of the mother Eve is dead under suspicious circumstances. Constance returns back to the estate to unite her twin and obedient sister Lisa to hear the will.

There is no surprise that Eve still plays games from her graveyard. He leaves her good daughter Lisa a thirty million dollars and entire estate as she leaves Constance a dilapidated shack of house in New Mexico and hired a mysterious caretaker Jet Montgomery to live with her for 3 years.

Constance realizes this is one of the sick games of her mother. But she has no idea what kind of dangerous secrets the haunted house holds and what kind of trouble she gets herself into by moving in Nihla/ New Mexico where the throwback girls are raped and brutally killed. Will she be one of those victims or will she dig out to find the connection between Eve’s investigation in the past and the perpetrator of town’s dead girls?

This book is fast pacing, gripping and especially the final twists you never see them coming were absolute delight!

Thank you Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

Writing: 2.5/5 | Plot: whyyyy/5 | Ending: no seriously, why?/5

Giving this 2 stars because it has HBO potential. idk don't ask.

THE PLOT

20-ish years ago, Eve Foster was scouring Nihla, New Mexico for her runaway (frankly out of control) daughter, Kerlsey. Fast forward, Eve has left her adopted daughter, Connie, a dilapidated red house in Nihla. Why? Is this another one of Eve's sick games? Connie is about to find out!!

MY OPINION

LE SIGH. First and foremost, I didn't DNF because the first 30% of the book was promising, but then it started spinning its tires when I was already past the point of no return. If you want to read the equivalent of an HBO series filmed in sepia tones with lots of long dramatic pauses, b roll, and rando sex scenes, then this is for you. I think this would definitely work as a series, but it wasn't hittin as a book.

I recently reviewed a guilty pleasure read and detailed what differentiates an over the top book from being enjoyable to annoying. Chiefly, it was the author doesn't try to punch above their weight class and attempt something complex, moody, and literary. The multiple storylines were over the top and nonsensical: a deranged mother hellbent on "playing games" with her daughter by sending her to various towns across US with $100 and just a backpack. Absolutely not.

This "plot" heavily relied on everybody being mute. It makes no sense to slip someone a note with a name and then be like STOP ASKING ME QUESTIONSNSONFSNGNKKSGNK!!! Bro?? A good suspenseful story is like Sharon Bolton's Dead Woman Walking, chock full of well-disguised clues and red herrings that give the reader a chance to figure it out. And then when the twisty twist hits you're like AHAAAAAA the math is mathin!!! But since nobody was saying shit, the author could've literally said: aliens with pineapples for eyes did this shit, and you couldn't disagree because there was no hints to say otherwise along the way.

Every character, except Micah the rescued street dog, was unlikeable. Eve? Whack, up her own ass, should take her millions and get a top notch psychiatrist on retainer. Connie? The only way she handled stress was sleeping with the closest guy available. The townspeople of Nihla? Miserable, unhelpful, weird.

Also... did one of three black characters really need to be named LeBron? LEBRON? LEBRON!?!?!? C'mon now.

Ok, I'm wrapping it up. This had potential but should've went for wholesome vibes instead of dark and brooding.

PROS AND CONS

Pros: interesting premise, dual timelines, Micah the dog

Cons: overwritten, trying too hard, illogical, relied heavily on zero communication between main characters

This author has knocked my socks off! This book has it all, from awesome characters right through to jaw dropping twists. I liked the two different timelines and the way it was captured. Connie from the present tense and her adoptive mother Eve from earlier years. Both are walking a journey to discovery truth's, lies and murderers. Some creepy effects made it so much more thrilling. Right to just before the end you will be clueless.

One small thing that got to me was that some of the writing was a bit over descriptive, but apart from that I loved it. Well deserved 4 stars!

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.

Expected publication date: December 6, 2022

In 1997, Eve Foster’s daughter, Kelsey, disappears without a trace. Desperate to find her child, Eve travels to the small town of Nilha, New Mexico, the last place her daughter was seen, a town full of skeptical, untrusting people and murderous secrets.

In present day, Constance’s adopted mother, Eve, has died, leaving Constance a small home in New Mexico. A home that Constance and her twin, Lisa, never knew existed. Known for her vicious games, Connie assumes the little red house in the desert is another ploy formulated by Eve, meant to target Connie even from beyond the grave. But what Constance discovers leads her to start asking questions, questions the townspeople are willing to go to great lengths to stop her from asking.

“Little Red House” by Liv Andersson is dark, disturbing and utterly addictive! Told from two time periods, the reader gets snippets of Eve’s life as she desperately searches for her estranged daughter, while in present day, Constance tries to come to terms with the death of the only mother she’s ever known. Eve is immediately portrayed as a vile, evil sociopath, and both Constance and Lisa appear better off without her, but of course, it doesn’t end there. There is twist after twist in this novel, and each one packs a punch.

The desolate New Mexican desert is the perfect backdrop to this page-turning novel, and the close knit (and closed mouthed) community of Nilha is the place to go when you want secrets to stay buried. Manipulative men in power, “forgotten” and “unimportant” women who disappear, and dark family secrets all flow together in a well thought out and creative plot.

Andersson is a new author for me (this is her first novel under this pseudonym) and I am definitely intrigued. A uniquely told novel about family, murder, and secrets that don’t want to stay buried, “Little Red House” gave me goosebumps!

Little Red House by Liv Andersson

Little Red House is atmospheric and creepy. Even though it's not the scariest book I've ever read, it does have some noteable nerve-wracking moments.

Synopsis:
After years of searching for her oldest missing daughter, Eve passes away in an accident leaving her estate to her twin daughters Lisa and Connie. In Vermont, Lisa received the bulk of the estate, while Connie inherits a modest home in New Mexico. Upon arriving at her property, Connie hears that several women in the area have been brutally murdered. The small tight-knit community in New Mexico seems to be hiding dark secrets that no one is willing to talk about.

Little Red House begins with a bang. It held my attention and surprised me with some interesting twists. In spite of my high expectations, I was a bit disappointed with the ending. In my opinion, it does have an audience that will fully embrace the spooky vibe, but it requires a suspension of belief. It would definitely make a wonderful scary movie.

Little Red House by Liv Andersson is available on December 6th.

After devouring another of Liv Andersson’s novels, reading a second book seemed inevitable. Anderson effectively develops from the opening pages and builds the momentum to the point the reader will be flipping pages well into the night. A young woman runs away from home in 1997, disappearing into thin air and leaving her mother on the hunt to locate her. Years later, Eve Foster passes on without ever having found her daughter, dividing her estate between her twin daughters. One gets the money and local property, while the other is offered a small house in New Mexico. This property could be an asset, but there’s something about it that will leave its new owner wishing she’d never laid eyes on it. Andersson dazzles as she creates a powerful psych thriller.

Eve Foster has her hands full with her teenage daughter, Kelsey. After Kelsey runs away to New Mexico and vanishes in 1997, Eve is unsure what she ought to do. Making her way across the country, Eve begins her search, though the cops have little interest in another runaway teen. Eve must rely on her motherly instincts, which are activated when she learns of a number of other teen girls have gone missing. There’s a niggling feeling in Eve that Kelsey has fallen into the hands of a serial killer, something else no one wishes to acknowledge.

Many years later, Eve has created a life for herself in Vermont, which includes twin adopted daughters. Lisa was always the favourite, while Connie received the brunt of Eve’s brutal treatment, something that neither girl can deny. When Eve passes, Lisa receives a great deal of the Vermont estate, while Connie is left with a tiny stipend and a small piece of property in New Mexico. Both women begin to assess their gifts, though Connie can only wonder if the house she now owns is a sick joke.

After arriving in New Mexico, Connie is sure that this is a ploy by Eve to get her out of the way. Connie locates the property, an old and run-down red house in the desert, in which she must now live. The property comes with a caretaker, Jet Montgomery, who lives in a small shack and refuses to engage with her any more than necessary. The rules around maintenance, upkeep, and selling are clear, which Jet follows closely, much to Connie dismay. This is making things all the more mysterious for Connie, who soon learns that the community has been shocked by a number of murdered women, though no one will speak about them. What does this New Mexico community have to hide and was Eve aware of it back when she drew up her will, thereby sending Connie into danger?

As the story progresses, the two narratives develop, one with Eve searching for Kelsey in 1997, while the other has Connie trying to make sense of the community’s hushed silence and how it might tie into her mother’s last cruel act. It is only when Connie discovers that a serial killer has been haunting the area that the connection seems cemented. Connie is forced to finish what Eve never did in the hunt for Kelsey all those years ago. Someone has been targeting women and letting the blame rest with two Black men, incarcerated for a crime they did not commit. When Lisa begins being haunted as well, Connie is sure that Eve is somehow tied into everything. Will Connie get the needed answers or become another target of a killer who has been mastering their trade for decades? Andersson provides a stellar story for readers, adding a psychological angle that only adds to the intensity.

I recently discovered the work of Liv Andersson and could not put down the first novel I tried. This book is just as exciting, though also dark, as any good psych thriller ought to be. Andersson develops a strong narrative from the beginning, writing on two timelines to keep the reader paying attention. The two storylines appear only loosely connected until there is a definite merge and soon the twists appear. Strong characters pepper the story, though the protagonists’ development is key to the story’s success. Eve and Connie provide strong contrasting development tracks, as both are struggling for answers, even if one is living in the horrible shadow of the other. The plot twists develop with some ease, with moments the reader might not be able to easily differentiate between 1997 and present day. It is the emergence of a major plot twist in the latter stages that truly defines the book’s greatest as a psychological thriller. Andersson weaves a story that is full of murder, darkness, and some treachery, keeping the attentive reader shocked on multiple occasions. I can only hope there will be more books in this vein before too long.

Kudos, Madam Andersson, for captivating me and proving an entertaining reading experience.

This book is really not to my taste, the plot was enough to make me want to finish it, but overall a depressing and depraved story. I struggled to keep track of the characters and how they tied into each other. I kept hoping for a climax that would bring all the pieces together, but this proved also to be a little disappointing rather than an unforeseen twist.
Trigger warnings for some, there is torture, abuse, neglect and a whole lot of other unpleasant things tied up in this package. Some will like this, but it was not for me.

Holy Crap.... Who are you Liv Andersson and where have you been my whole life?

I am a sucker for a mysterious cover, and come on, lets just take a look at Little Red House. Does this cover not give you the chills? What is inside tips the scales on the "Wow-Chart" . I was completely and totally blown away.

This is not a slow burn at all. You get thrown into the chaos on the very first page and as the book progresses you get dragged further and further down the rabbit hole of suspense.

This is an easy five star read and will have people talking for years to come. I know a bestseller when I read one, and this has BestSeller written all over it. Kudos, to Live Andersson, she put out one hell of a book for her fans.

Do not miss out on Little Red House, pre-order now!

I hated this book, the characters and the writing. The only reason I stuck out? I was still curious to know how this will wrap up. The way a main female character spoke about other women made me feel like this was written by a male. Every single character was unlikeable. And it would have worked, if the writing was any good. **Stomping away**

The premise of this book lured me in. It is original and I had high hopes: after a controlling and cruel mother dies, her two adoptive daughters are left with a strange inheritance. The beautiful blonde Lisa gets the whole estate, the difficult and headstrong Connie only gets a dilapidated shack in New-Mexico. The exact place where her half sister disappeared 20 years ago and where a serial killer was active. Interesting stuff, for sure !

What put me off at the start was the writing style with chopped up sentences. It felt like the author has been writing down some erratic thoughts instead of putting her ideas into sentences. I must admit that the writing style improved a little the further I got into the book. But then that positive was offset with the direction the plot went. That very tantalizing premise just went haywire and some big no-no's of the genre were delivered on a plate: identity fixes, explanation of what's happening every two sentences, ignoring very obvious solutions to problems , etc... At the end, I was left with so many questions! I will not put them here to avoid spoilers, but there were so many loose threads that the whole fabric just fell apart. I am sure that many readers will love the twists and unexpected turns the story takes, but it just wasn't for me.

A sincere thanks to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books and the author for an advance copy in exchange of an honest review.

Liv Andersson delves deep into the human psyche with her latest, LITTLE RED HOUSE —a dark, disturbing, and twisty psychological suspense thriller where sadistic mind games rise to the surface, and a woman who desperately tries to save herself and make sense of it all.

"Dark and twisty, with white-knuckle tension and jaw-dropping surprises."

Told from two time periods (1997 and present), we meet Eve, the mother. She is a vile, evil sociopath and a master manipulator.

In 1997 Nihla, New Mexico: Eve Foster is in a small town desperately searching for her 17-year-old daughter, Kelsey.

In New York City, present day, we meet Constance, Eve's adopted daughter. Eve has died and leaves most of her estate to her good daughter Lisa (Vermont), while Constance inherits a run-down house in New Mexico they never knew existed.

Of course, Eve is still manipulating and pulling strings from the grave as is specified in terms of the will, and if they attempt to alter the terms in any way, they will forfeit everything. Lisa cannot simply give her sister half of the money.

While Lisa gets all the money and properties, Constance only receives $5K for airfare, food, and initial expenses, and after that, $5K per twelve-month period and the red house. She may not rent or sell the New Mexico property for three years. If so, the estate will be sold and given to charity.

For one sister to be rewarded—the other had to be punished.

Told from Constance and Eve's POV.

Known for Eve's vicious games, Constance (Connie) assumes this red garage house is meant to harass her from the grave. She adopted both girls from an orphanage in Greece. She changed their names and asked them to call her Aunt Eve rather than "mother."

Over the years, she put them through survival tests and horrible acts of cruelty.

The desolate dry New Mexican desert is the perfect backdrop for this atmospheric, creepy, page-turning mystery!

At 13 Mad Dog Road, her new dilapidated red house is full of mystery and intrigue. Dust. Cobwebs. Broken floorboards. Peeling Walls. A gaping hole of a house. It is not fit to live in, and the area sounds unsafe.

Upon arrival, she is met by a man and a gun—Jet Montgomery's caretaker and his dog. He lives in the shed behind the shotgun house with a basement. What if he was the serial killer? A murderer?

Had she been sent here for the ultimate game of cat and mouse?

She was even given a note that said, "Don't Sleep with the Help, Constance," from her mother.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Constance soon hears about the events from the nineties from the locals: six girls over the five years were kidnapped, raped, tortured, mutilated, and dumped. And now it has started again. Two more. Constance searches for answers.

However, with a serial killer who was never caught and a town unwilling to release its secrets, especially to an outsider—can Connie solve the mystery before she is added to the killer’s list? Can she trust anyone?

Complex, richly atmospheric, and thoroughly riveting!

The author pulls you in immediately with this neglected creepy red house setting in this dark and mysterious tale. The dual timelines keep you in check from past to present. The suspense remains high, and as a reader you are on the edge of your seat.

Eve is a complex woman, and Constance is strong and determined. Between the past and present, the dark family secrets, the manipulative men, and the women who disappear —will keep you hooked, turning the pages into the wee hours of the morning.

There are many facets of this story, but at the end of the day, LITTLE RED HOUSE packs eerie vibes, entertainment, and psychological heft into a suspense novel you will fly through in just a couple of sittings. The novel would make for a great movie or TV series.

For fans of authors: Jennifer Hillier, Megan Collins, Robyn Harding, Gilly MacMillan, and Lisa Jewell.

I look forward to reading more from Wendy Tyson—under (Liv Andersson) name. Cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. An author to watch!

I really loved the build-up of one POV, enjoyed the build-up of the other POV and felt as if the reveal needed one more little... bump. red herring. idk. something. while one reveal I really didn't see coming, another one made me suspend some disbelief. which sure, im totally fine with. but i need my reveals to match, you know?

anyway, I would still recommend this book and will still promote it! still a really fun story. to see a more coherent review, head to my bookstagram! @reawithk8

Liv Anderson's Little Red House is a tale that has so many twists and turns that it is impossible to predict the ending. But once you get to the end, you see it is the only way it could make sense. This is the highest praise for a murder mystery I can give.

Little Red House is about twins who are adopted at a young age. Their adoptive mother, who wants the twins to call her Aunt Eve, is not kind to them. She is very wealthy but quite unforgiving. She homeschools the twins so they have few others in their lives.

Aunt Eve's death leaves them with some very specific demands or they will not be able to inherit her fortune. She splits up the twins for 3 years and sends one to the west coast while the other stays on the estate in Vermont. They may not visit each other and must stay in the places where they are. From there, things become even more bizarre for both twins.

Little Red House is suspenseful and hard to put down, a must-read for fans of the genre!

Eve Foster is a wealthy Virginia native who we lean just recently passed away. Eve has two adoptive daughters, Lisa and Connie. Lisa is the good daughter who follows all of Eve’s rules. Eve leaves her almost the entire estate. Constance (Connie) is the troubled daughter. All she is left is a broken down house in New Mexico and a caretaker named Jet Montgomery.
Eve liked to play mean games with her daughters and especially with Connie. We learn that Eve’s daughter, Kelsey ran away 20 years ago. Eve believes that a serial killer took Eve. What happened to Kelsey? Who is the killer. The truth will shock you.

"She hated men's orgasms. They were not just messy, they were downright ugly." Eve Foster and her adoptive daughter, Constance are the duelling protagonists of this well-written, cohesive murder mystery. For once, I didn't hate alternate chapters, because the past history of Eve looking for her daughter Kelsey in a cliquey backwater town called Nihla in New Mexico overlaid with Connie's present day experience of the "little red house" perfectly. You will want to know what happens next in both stories, and thus not battle the author's choices to tell you in alternate chapters what happens next.

"I viewed men—nearly all men—with the same wary pragmatism I reserved for large dogs and black bears." While Eve is abusive to her adoptive daughter, she is gutsy and thus kind of likeable in her historic chapters. "Sometimes the world forces us to be victim or vixen," Eve explains to a chatty driver, adding "I will never again be a victim, so I guess that's what's left." She proceeds to eat men alive to achieve her aims. As the book goes on, you understand (though perhaps do not exactly empathise) with why: "Sometimes life is about distasteful tradeoffs."

Along with Eve and Connie's stories, the book is about a series of murders of "runaways and throwaways" in the town and surrounds, and the way it closes ranks to protect a home-grown killer. Living in the little red house, it is quickly apparent that the dwelling is somehow connected to the horror. So Connie sets out to solve the mysteries, obviously disgusted with the idea that the dead women will "be data points, unsolved murders that get filed away". Author Liv Andersson ties up all these stories nicely, without ruining the pacing of the book with a tab A in slot B type 'tying up loose ends' chapter. I'd happily pick up another book by this talented author.

With thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for sending me a copy to read.

There are two types of thriller writers: Those who write so poorly that even what should be believable comes off as completely unbelievable, and those who wrote so poignantly and elegantly that even the most unbelievable becomes believable. Liv Andersson falls into the latter. Little Red House is the thriller that restored my faith in the genre. I haven't read a thriller this fantastic in years.

There's no way for me to explain this to you without one of two things happening: 1) the explanation makes no sense, or 2) I give away everything. In general terms, though, this is one of those novels where the characters are worlds and years apart, yet somehow they all come together at the end. People are not who they seem. Small towns truly are what people say they are: Places where politics rules over honesty and redemption. There are serious cracks in our justice system; men will never stop trying to evade and destroy the strength of women.

Don't take it from me, though. Read Liv Andersson's book.

If you've been struggling to find a thriller that makes your husband question why you just yelled "holy balls what the f*ck" after reading one of the author's carefully implemented twists, than this is it. I can't recommend it enough!

Wow!! I can’t wait to read more from this author! I read this book in four days! I really don’t even know how to explain it?? It is like Mommy Dearest meets a serial killer. This book tells story in two different time lines one from Connie present and her adoptive Mother Eve 1997. The best Thriller to start my summer with a OMG, I didn’t see that coming. You have to read this book it will take you on a ride and have you talking about it long after you read it. ❤️❤️

Thank you to NetGally for gifting me this book for my honest review.

Absolutely one of my favorite reads of the year. Loved the dual timeline. I was instantly hooked with the opening, a dead rich mother, one sister keeps everything the other gets a rundown red house in New Mexico. Every chapter created more questions that I had to know the answers to. I did NOT see the ending coming. Loved it, 10 out of 10 stars if I could.

Story of the book-

Kelsey Foster, Eve Foster’s daughter, runs away to New Mexico in 1997 and then disappears without a trace. Although Kelsey’s corpse is never discovered, Eve is certain that she is the victim of a serial murderer who has been targeting women in the area. Eve leaves her adoptive twin children everything when she passes many years later. Lisa, the “nice daughter,” receives most of the opulent estate in Vermont, while Connie only receives a meager income and a property in New Mexico. Connie, who is frequently the victim of Eve’s harshness, believes this was another of her mother’s vengeful tricks.

When Connie first arrives in New Mexico, she discovers a little, run-down red house in the middle of the desert, along with Jet Montgomery, the home’s mystery caretaker, who is residing in a nearby hut. She finds out that several women have been killed nearby, but no one would talk about them. Before Connie can learn the truth, her mother’s cruel mind tricks return from the dead, and the threat suddenly seems all too real. Connie is in a frantic race against time to save herself and what little her broken family has left, with a serial murderer on the loose and a treasure trove of dangerous secrets coming to light.

My review-

Mind games that constantly yank the rug out from under you are bleak, dark, and twisting! This book has everything, from amazing characters to mind-blowing turns. This is a masterfully written thriller with dark and compelling characters, lies and secrets, the danger around every turn, and an incredible twist. The story is split between two time periods, giving the reader glimpses into Eve’s life as she desperately looks for her estranged daughter while Constance struggles to accept the loss of the only mother she has ever known in the present.

On the opening page, the turmoil is thrust upon you, and as the novel goes on, the suspense drags you deeper and deeper down its rabbit hole. The opening line, “A deceased rich mother, one sister keeps everything, the other receives a shabby red mansion in New Mexico,” had me interested right away. I had to know the solutions to additional questions that were raised by each chapter. Be careful, it made for some unpleasant reading at times.

You must read this book because it will take you on a journey and have you talking about it for a long time. Readers will appreciate watching the several stories develop as Connie solves the mystery since the author did an excellent job of balancing all the storylines. The imperfect characters with survivalist instincts were enjoyable. The clever and inquisitive protagonist is battling. Everything a novel should have was there. The compelling, menacing people, secrets, deception, and danger with a surprise twist were what I found appealing. I won’t soon forget this suspenseful movie! Read Little Red House without holding back if you like dark, twisted thrillers with strong characters. However, you may think about leaving all the lights on.

TW: violence, rape, child abuse, physical assault, and bloodshed.

Diabolical Mommy Dearest--Fraternal twins, Connie and Lisa, opposite in looks and personality, are the sole beneficiaries of their wealthy mother's estate upon her death, as they had been of her unpredictable wrath in Liv Andersson’s heart-pounding psychological thriller, “Little Red House.”

Their mother's entire fortune and New England mansion, in an irrevocable trust forbidding assistance to her sister in any way, is bequeathed to shy and scared-cat twin Lisa.

Conversely, her sister, Connie, is given a yearly stipend of $5,000 and a ramshackle red shotgun house in a bleak New Mexico town. When Connie moves, she finds her new home not only dilapidated, but a man that her mother hired to oversee the property--but not repair--living in a backyard shed. Making matters more creepy, Connie learns that young girls are being abducted and murdered in this small town, a pattern repeated from 20 years past.

Andersson’s, “Little Red House,” is a page-turner of a rollercoaster ride that doesn't let go. There are twists and turns that you may not catch until the very end. Read on to learn why Connie's cruel and abusive mother owned the little red house in this small New Mexico town and why she left it to Connie in her will.

Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the copy of Little Red House. Wow, this was quite a book! There was so much going on and it was hard to imagine, much less read about, an evil character like Eve. It actually made for some uncomfortable reading at times, so be warned. The writing was great and I was sucked right into the stories of Eve and Connie. If you love dark and twisty stories you will love this one. There is so much going on you will be kept guessing until the end!

This was a hard book to follow and to like. There is a lot going on and a lot of characters that make the story unlikable and hard to want to continue reading. I ended up skimming through it after about 40%.

A missing teenage girl sets in motion a series of events that no one would ever suspect. The relationship between mother and daughter has never been a warm or loving one. Even so, Kelsey is only 16 when she goes missing, and Eve--her rich and formidable mother--is determined to find her come hell or high water.

But hell may have already been unleashed.

LITTLE RED HOUSE is told between the present day and the late 90s. Each chapter reveals frustratingly few clues--a clever and masterful story construction from the author to keep readers engaged and hooked! Dark, vivid, and suspenseful, with a final plot twist that made my jaw drop!
