DARE TO ROCK (Dare To Love, #5) by Carly Phillips is the seventh book in this series of contemporary romances. Each book can be easily read as a standalone. The characters and books are tied together by one father with two families which are made public by the illness of one of the daughters.
Avery Dare is the youngest in the first family and was most affected by her father’s scandal and desertion. She has become successful blogging online, which allows her to be in control of her surroundings and avoid stressful interactions and anxiety attacks. She receives an invitation to a concert from her famous high school ex-boyfriend, Grey Kingston.
Grey Kingston took off after high school to find fame and fortune as a rock star not caring about leaving behind his family or Avery. Now he is back home to stay, has quit the band and touring to set things right with his family and reclaim Avery, who is the only woman he has ever really loved.
Avery and Grey were perfect for each other. The personal issues that needed resolved by both were handled so well and with a lot of heart. Their sexual relationship was hot and steamy and not gratuitous. External plot problems of a crazy groupie and a sleazy manager were intertwined through the story and added just the right amount of suspense. This was a very satisfying installment in this series.

Very lukewarm & shallow story. Zero discussion/resolution on any of the H's selfish & repulsive actions/decisions.
Also, I've read alot of pathetic doormats in my time but Avery takes the cake. I just wanted to slap self esteem & respect into her. What a doormat. He deserved a good verbal bashdown from her after the way he abruptly dumped her, ignored her for 7 years, so that he could live his rockstar life & whore his way through hundreds of groupies/women. What does she do? Never confronts him about ANYTHING, there's hardly even a conversation about all the damage, hurt & betrayals he heaped on her, and she just jumps straight into bed with him, after not having heard a word from him in 7 years. What a joke!

Summary

When she receives an invitation to go to one of his concerts, she takes a chance, but when she is invited back-stage and sees what life is really like for him...the attention, press, and groupies, she knows that she can't handle it. So she goes back home and to her quiet life never expecting to see him again. Grey Kingston loves Avery, he has lived his life of fame but it has taken its toll on him, and he is ready to go after the woman he loves more than life. Grey knows that he is in for a battle, because for the first time he will have to chase his prey and keep her if she will let him. Dare to Rock is the seventh installment, this series the "Dare to Love" is based on the Dare family. Dare to Rock is a rocker romance, but a bit different than most rock star romances. In this book, it begins with the scene where Avery comes to Grey's show. Grey wanted Avery at his concert and he wanted to see her again, but when a crazy groupie is all over him despite his efforts to push her away, Avery sees everything and runs away from it and the life he lives. Then it skips to the current time, where Avery and Grey have been living their own lives. Grey has made an effort to keep in touch with Avery, give her unique and special gifts and wants her back. Avery is afraid, mostly because of her past. She suffers from panic attacks. Avery when she was nine learned a truth that her father had an affair with another woman and kids and wanted Avery to donate her bone marrow for a sister who had cancer. Avery did so and took it in stride, but all the press was horrid and she never fully healed, and never confronted her father about her true feelings about the past. We have an additional element in the story...the crazed fan. We see the element of intrigue and danger increase while Avery and Grey are relearning each other and building a new trust again. The sex scenes are plenty, yet sexy and fun.
These two tend to be very playful with each other and I liked how they responded so well to each other. What I also enjoyed was the Dare family...the siblings, they were fun to get to know and the differing personalities was very unique. Even though this is the 7th book, it can definitely be read as a stand alone.

I realize I left you once, but I promise never again. And I know I'm not a bargain, and I bring with me more hassle than you need or want in your life, but I love you. I want to take care of you, to have fun with you, and to be by your side for the rest of my life.

I had an in depth review of this book but my notes app glitched while deleting my book review for Dare To Desire and annoyingly deleted the rest of the reviews for this series. I'm not going to try rewriting these reviews. I'm beyond frustrated and will only get more annoyed. My problem with these books is pretty much the same, that the males go to far. They're over the top, pushy, and overstep their boundaries. The women are no better, they're spineless weak doormats who don't know how to speak up for themselves and are led around by their keepers on a leash. Not to mention the overload of sex scenes, I don't want to read how many ways they can f*ck if I don't care for the characters or if sex is their only foundation of love. I just don't and that seems to be the norm for this writer. I want the bond, the connection, before all of the raunchy sex. But if you absolutely have to have them, make the scenes where they're not dirty talking count. Show the love that comes from the heart, not the d*ck. The only book in this series that has the right combination of sex, love, and respect is the last one, Dare To Take otherwise the rest of the "Dare" series is just sex, sex, and more sex.
I hated everything about this book and it sets such a bad example of romance. This is NOT ROMANCE!!! Avery and Grey are two of the most completely screwed up characters I've ever read. One is a selfish manipulative loser who left the girl he loved for fame and fortune until he was ready to settle down at his convenience no apology offered or even addressed. The other is a weak pathetic doormat who accepted any scraps she could get from a guy who could do no wrong in her eyes even if he broke her heart and hadn't contacted her in seven years while he was off living the good life with other girls. I was disgusted with this book and have no idea how this trash even got published let alone as romance. Will never read this again and hope I can forget ever reading it.

I love everything ROCKSTAR - and this story was really cute. Not really rock-star-ish, because Grey kinda retired from being a rockstar - but still.. I loved it.
Grey is really great - he knows what he wants from the very beginning of the story - totally different to most romance book heroes ☺
He wants Avery and he plans on getting her!

A shared past and heartbreak have defined them for the last several years but neither one can deny the feeling of rightness and happiness they feel when they are together again. As much as these two have grown in the last 7 years being back together shows them they have more to do and doing it together makes them only more certain of what they want their future to look like. Two people trying to figure out how to move past their past, learning to trust again and moving forward make Dare To Rock one entertaining and sexy reunion love story.
As a young child Avery Dare's life was turned upside down when her father admitted he had a second family complete with four children and needed her and her sibling's tested as a possible bone marrow donor for his youngest daughter of his other family. Avery never thought about saying no or being angry after all she was 8 years old but the events of that time have left her emotionally scarred for more than one reason. Between never feeling like she was good enough for her father and his abandonment of her family she's harbored issues for years and when her high school lover up and leaves her with no more than a day's notice Avery doesn't trust easily and gives her heart to no one.
Grey Kingston knows people think he's crazy from walking away from his rock star lifestyle and his band but he's begun to realize that there are more important things in life including the woman he left behind and his family. He knows he faces an uphill battle with Avery especially after their disastrous back stage meet up a few months ago but he is determined to prove to her that he's not that guy, not anymore and he wants everything with her and her only. What Grey doesn't know is that Avery has issues very few know about and that his famous lifestyle threatens her well being.
The minute these two are together again the heat between them is more than obvious. I love that Grey really was trying to woo Avery in a respectful way even though he wanted her again with all the passion he still felt for her. There was no doubt that Avery was gun shy and with reason she has big time abandonment issues and after witnessing Grey's new lifestyle first hand she fears she'll never be enough for him. I liked watching Avery take control of her life, standing up for herself with her big brothers, with Grey's friends, business associates and yes even his fans but most especially with her ass of a father. I also respect that she didn't want to use her connections to raise funds for a charity project she was doing that she worked hard to do it without calling on people who would have bankrolled it had she asked; it's a testament to how much she wanted to be her own woman. I was a little disappointed in that we didn't see these two have more heart to heart talks about the time they were apart, about how Grey leaving the way he did affected her and about what they truly wanted out of life as they moved forward. Don't get me wrong I was happy with the way this story played out and the ending was really good but I just wanted more for them without sex taking precedence (not that those scenes were deliciously sensual and hot as hell but the needed more "real" time).
Grey's notoriety brings with it press and problems not only for him but for Avery and her family as well adding some drama and a little bit of suspense. I did enjoy seeing some of Avery's siblings and step-siblings as well as her roommate Ella and I'm intrigued by the connection between Ella and Avery's brother Tyler.
I simply can't get enough of Carly Phillip's Dare series; with each book I'm more invested and more intrigued by this crazy, loving, mixed-up bunch of siblings and their significant others.

I have enjoyed each of the books in the Dare series thus far. Each one provides a unique set of characters and interesting challenge(s) they must overcome as a couple to secure a happily ever after for themselves.
In this respect, Avery Dare and Grey Kingston were no different. Avery and Grey were high school sweethearts whose hearts called to like. Grey and Avery were loners -- both for very different reasons -- but that similarity is what connected them to one another. Grey was a musician and a dreamer. He was just waiting for the day he could leave his working class family (mother and stepfather) who he was actually ashamed of, and make a name for himself in the music world. He wanted to prove to his father, whom he had a very strained relationship with before he died, that he could in fact "be somebody." Although Grey's father didn't live to see his success, he achieved it and in a very big way. Unfortunately, his quest to outrun hid personal demons also caused him to run away from Avery in the process. He left her...COLD...and never have her the chance on the choice to come along with him in his climb to the top. And, it tore Avery up. Already having extreme abandonment issues due to her father's selfishness, Avery was heartbroken and closed herself off to serious relationships. But time does not dull the light of love. Grey was still very much in love with Avery and he wanted her back. Only the adult Avery was more guarded and careful with her affections. But Grey was intent on having his girl back -- mind, body, and soul. However, things are never easy in the journey to happily ever after. Grey's swarmy record producer and a seriously crazy stalker almost thew a permanent wrench in Grey's plans to permanently reconcile with Avery. Fortunately for him, the adult Avery was also willing to fight for what she wanted, that is once she finally made up her mind about it.
I absolutely adored Avery. She was actually one of the most muted Dare's in all the other Dare books. Sure, she had presence because she was the one who saved her half-sibling, Sienna's life by donating bone marrow when she was a child. We also knew that there was a story between her and the sexy rocker, yet she didn't stand out UNTIL THIS BOOK! Phillips did an exceptional job crafting a character that would tug on your heart strings and make you cheer for her, especially when you read her interactions with her father. It broke my heart for her. But, I love how she confronted him when she found her strength, or rather tapped into her strength. Although plagued by frequent panic attacks, Avery was stronger than she knew and it only took Grey's presence in her life to nudge that strength to the forefront.
This book is definitely a Book Chick favorite!

Ugh. Pretty much a combo of the last 4 books in this series.
Avery Dare and Grey Kingston broke up when he wanted to pursue his rockstar dreams. Now he's done with the life and is ready to settle down with the only woman he's ever loved. They have the standard crap that happens in these books: Avery is insecure about groupies and faithfulness, she has abandonment issues from the crappy Dare dad, he has a deceitful manager out to ruin him, there's a stalker groupie determined to hurt Avery, they move in together for safety, the entire Dare family wants them to break up, bada bing bada boom, HEA.
Not nearly as much sex as in the other books. I'm sick of rehashing what the Dare dad did and abandoned one family. I've heard it for the past 4 books. I get it. I actually skimmed some of this because it was boring and repetitive. Personally, if you skip this one, I don't think you're missing out on anything.
Sophie Eastlake still does a good job with the narration for her male voice. The voice for the FMC is a little annoying. Def not my fave.

I liked Dare To Rock overall even with it’s formulaic storyline. Phillips’s is a talented writer whose sexy romance contemporary entertains. Engaging characters and dialogue, along with a small suspenseful subplot, keeps the story running fast and smooth though I did feel we were dropped right down in the middle with not much to cling to as the story starts. Avery and Grey’s relationship picks right back up where it left off with little fanfare or conflict. We aren’t given an in depth look at their romance as teenagers nor do we get to see the results they suffered when Grey left. In fact, we barely see or hear anything of what happened to them (emotionally) in those years apart so I never got a good feel for how they were compared to now. Also, while I definitely felt the chemistry between them, I was a little more weary of what kept the attraction alive for seven years of no contact and how easily it was for them to fall back into it.
The sexual aspects of the romance are loud and proud as Grey is dominant dirty talker who loves to show Avery just how much he wants her. Which is all the time. :P Avery matches him sexually deed for deed which made for some nice steamy scenes. They are a cute couple whose connection is easily felt.

Avery and Grey’s reconnection blends well with their separate external relationships. I liked that Phillips’s didn’t isolate this couple to the point where nothing and no one else mattered. Avery has a strong relationship with all her siblings and a job that requires her continuous presence. Grey also has issues with his family that needed to be addressed and a career that didn’t just stop when he went home. Phillips’s gives just enough with the secondary characters so that new fan’s interests are peaked to scour Phillips’s backlist while more established fans will be pleased to see what past couples have been up to. The sparks between Erin and Tyler were HAWT and I hope their story comes soon.
The Dare To Love series are the perfect length and heat level to give even the busiest of readers a nice pleasant respite from the demands of everyday life. I recommend the series to everyone who enjoys a short but sweet romance with low level conflict and complementary characters.

May 30, 2016I thought this would be great, because Avery had such an interesting job. Unfortunately, I think this is one of those series where, while the couple is stand alone, I would have had more buy in to Avery's background if I'd read some of the earlier books.
As it was, I didn't really connect with her big problem.
I don't know whether Grey also has prior book connections, but I found him difficult. He starts the book complaining about his evil manager, who doesn't care about Grey making a romantic connection to Avery. I don't see why his evil manager should care about Grey's love life, and I don't necessarily think he's automatically evil because he doesn't. Anyway, it just made Grey come across as a whiny baby.
Basically, Avery and Grey were high school sweethearts. Grey invites Avery to a band performance. Avery turns up backstage at Grey's invitation, to see a hussy pawing at Grey. She is hurt and she leaves. Months and months and months later, without any communication between them, Grey shows up and insists that Avery go out to dinner with him. Which Avery does. Which made me think that Avery was wishy washy, and with no one prepared to be an adult about anything, I decided I was out.

I'm a huge fan of Carly Phillips and drop everything to read each of her books as they are released. Dare to Rock was no different and is now my favorite book ever from Carly Phillips.
I love a reunion story and Avery and Grey's reunion story is absolutely perfect. Yes there is a bit of a bump in the road when they first see one another again. However, I loved the Grey didn't give up and was all about proving to Avery that he was back in Miami to stay. Grey and Avery seriously can't keep their hands off one another for long and I loved how strong their chemistry was even after being apart for so many years. Grey and Avery have both smoking hot sex and tender love making, both of which worked at the time.
I also loved how much time we got to spend with Avery and her siblings. Whether her brothers going all alpha-protective when the stalker showed up, or Avery getting to spend time with her sisters and sister-in-laws, I loved watching Avery get to spend time with her family. I loved how close Avery is to both Olivia and Sienna, and the different bond she shared with them both. I also loved Avery's best friend Ella and how Avery shared secrets with her she didn't even share with her sisters. Sometimes you need an outside person to confide in over a family member.
The more time Avery and Grey spent together, the more I loved them at a couple. I also loved they had couple friends with Grey's best friend Lola and her boyfriend Rep. Lola is such a fun and colorful character and I loved how protective she was of Grey when she first meets Avery. I really felt like Avery and Lola became friends so quickly because of how protective Lola was of Grey.
The one member of Avery's family who hasn't been a part of her life since she donated bone marrow to save Sienna is her father Robert Dare. I really hate this man with a passion for what he did to not only his legitimate children but his illegitimate children as well. While Ian got to give his father a little bit of what-for in his book, I've always believed Avery and Sienna are the ones with the most right to lay into their father. Let me just say one of my favorite parts of the whole book is when Avery talks to her father.
I honestly loved every single thing about Dare to Rock. Avery and Grey had the prefect reunion story proving second chances can work out. While there was drama with the stalker and life in general, I felt like it only made Grey and Avery's connection stronger faster. While Dare to Rock can totally be read as a stand alone story if you haven't read the other Dare to Love books, I really feel like you understand the family dynamics better if you read the books in order. I am now anxiously awaiting the release of the next book in the Dare to Love series, Dare to Seduce, which is Lucy and Max's story.

I love a good second chance story and rock stars are a good bonus. This is the only book in the series I've read and I picked it because it was listed as a stand alone, which is generally is. However, there's a lot of background to the Dare family and characters that I missed out on by coming in on book 5, so I felt like I was stepping into the middle of a story in a way. The author repeats the story about the cheating father with the two families many times, though, so you figure out what's going on. Which brings me to my first complaint: I got tired of constantly being reminded how much Avery's father ignores her and favors her half siblings and how this all causes her anxiety. It just felt... forced, kind of juvenile.
I'm also disappointed at the overall lack of conflict in the story. Grey arrives back in town and within a day, Avery is falling at his feet and letting him do whatever he wants. He really didn't have to work for it, and considering how they broke up before, you'd think he'd have to do a lot of grovelling. The conflict is basically her anxiety at him being famous and putting her in the spotlight in not a great way. And a side-story involving his manager and a stalker, but that's mostly negligible and all tied up in a neat little bow at the end. Also, the first sex scene was hot and fun, but then there came a point my eyes just glazed over and I started skimming the rest of the scenes... sometimes less is just more.
I wish there had been a bit more background on what Avery and Grey's relationship was like when they first dated. Maybe a flashback or two? Something to sell us on the fact that they used to be a couple who was very much in love, rather than just being told they were. It was just kind of hard to connect with the characters.
(Also, I'm assuming Grey's nickname of "Very" for Avery is simply a shortened version of her name and maybe a pun on the word "very"? I don't know, since the author never explained it.)

I am a huge fan of the Dare series and adore Carly Phillips's writing but DARE TO ROCK didn't quite hit the mark for me. I felt that the hero Grey wasn't quite on the same level of alpha as Carly's heroes usually are. And Avery started to get a little bit whiny towards the end. I understand that she has daddy issues with the whole second family story but I felt that by the halfway mark, I was bored with this being an issue for her. Just a little meh for me.

Comfort in the Chaos
It's about time! It's taken until now to learn what happened at the concert in Olivia and Dylan's story. Avery Dare and Greyson Kingston have history. Some good, some bad. In any case, their reunion doesn't go as planned, but I like that we finally learn what transpired.
When Grey returns, the man he's become is one heck of a dirty talker, and I love it! It's funny and cheesy on occasion. 😄
Avery Dare: “Now can we get dressed so I can eat my muffin?”
Greyson Kingston: “Not unless I can eat your muffin first.”
I love how supportive Grey is of Avery and vice versa. They both have challenges to conquer, many stemming from actions from an outside party, but the gentle nudge, strong hand, or several other indicators makes it easy to root for them.
I read along with the audio book. The narrator is Sophie Eastlake. I enjoyed listening and look forward to the next experience.

Sweet, Spicy and Sizzling! I have a soft spot for Avery Dare because she is the one daughter who really felt her sleazy father's cold rejection the most. After she saved Sienna's life, Robert Dare acted like Avery no longer existed. He had no further use for her. So Avery's trust issues for men results in Grey paying a debt he did not owe. I kept hoping Avery could tell her "father" to get lost and stay lost! Great story!

Nice story
Enough drama and action to be interesting. Likeable characters and good writing. I chose to skim past most of the sex scenes. Really details the first time is fine, but not necessary repeatedly. Nice ending.

RECONNECTED!!!!
Grey Kingston and Avery Dare dated when they were teenagers but the former left to go in pursuit of "fame" with his band the Tangled Royal....Years later he invited Avery to one of his concerts but when she got there some misunderstandings were created.
Not being one to give up easily, Grey did everything to get Avery to forgive him for what happened, eventually she forgive him......After the dismantlement of his band, Grey came back home for the one woman who always held his heart, Avery and for forgiveness from his parents.
After what her father did to their family, Avery didn't trust easily so when Grey left her years ago, she felt as if she wasn't good enough for him....but what she didn't know was that Grey just wanted to feel like he was worthy.
Avery didn't share a part of herself with Grey.....she suffered from panic attacks whenever she felt crowed and Grey being an ex-superstar, even though it felt like she couldn't handle that crazy part of his life. Avery wasn't going to let anyone nor anything stop her from being with the man she loved.
Avery tried to put back up those walls between her and Grey but the latter had other plans, they started to reconnect....as time passed by, Avery opened up to Grey regarding her panic attacks as he did the same regarding his relationship with his parents.
DARE TO ROCK was exquisitely fabulous, loved how Carly Phillips gets you to walk into the characters shoes.....The dynamic between the Dare siblings is fascinating.
Love how they come together whenever one of them is in trouble, Grey and Avery now they are a perfect example of having second chance at love.
This book was breathtakingly alluring, it pulled at your heartstrings, fun, loving and sexy....And not to forget full of craziness ;).....Two thumbs up, Carly Phillips gone and done it again.

Dare To Rock, Carly Phillips

Genre: Romance, women’s fiction
This series features books on individual characters in an extended family. I’d read the first book ages ago so could recall a bit of the chequered family history, but each novel is a stand alone and enough detail is given to be able to follow the story regardless.
I love rock band books, so that was the hook that drew me in, but to be honest there was little band type action in the novel. Grey’s ready to retire so we meet a few colleagues, his awful manager, and of course a few fans and groupies.
I really liked Grey, understood why he left home when he did but all those years without contact even though they were dating? And he didn’t tell her he was going or why? that just didn’t seem to fit with his Avery is It stance, and I felt he wouldn’t have acted that way. Then he and Avery pick up almost as if nothing had happened. That was all a bit too simplistic for me, I felt she’d have been more angry, asked more questions, demanded some reasons and that kind of sets the book. Its a good story, a fun read but not one that really gripped me. I liked the characters but...I didn’t love them, and wasn’t really invested in the outcome of the romance.
Avery’s family – the brothers anyway- are smothering and I just didn’t see why she let it happen, even though in the very distant past she’s had issues. I didn’t feel that something that happened so long ago, when she was just a child, should still be impacting on her to the degree she needed medication. It didn’t ring true for me, and made her seem weak when she was actually a strong character who’d build a solid business.
Its an interesting story, and something I expect all celebrities have to beware of, the demented fans, the stalkers, those who get obsessed by them. The media too plays a part in whipping up stories, milking them to the Nth degree, and never concerning themselves of the people involved. You can tell which side I stand on – free speech yes, but tempered with truth, and a regard for privacy and safety. Too often we get “ the public has a right to know” and yet why? Do we really need to know every little detail of things – I don’t. Sadly, though I did read it all, it remained a story I liked but didn’t love, that just didn’t really pull at me, make me feel the dangers were real, that Avery and Grey were not going to get through everything and I need that doubt, that feeling of reality, but from them first getting back together ( too soon for me) it just didn’t quite make it.
Stars: Three, a good story but a bit unreal for me.

I have always loved Carly's writing. She brings a special voice and passion to the stories she has written. Honestly this is the first book I have read in the Dare series and since this is the 7th book I know I missed a few things.
I did like that the family history was repeated during the book so I could follow what happened during Averys childhood and how it would effect her with Grey.
They both have come along way from being childhood sweethearts but I did feel there relationship was a bit rushed. I know they didn't stop loving one another but with all the time that past I think they just jumped in again to soon.
As far as the characters go I enjoyed them and how strong some of them were. I did have to find the family tree while reading to user stand who was who and that is because I didn't start from the beginning of the series. I also enjoyed that this book took place in Miami since not many books I have read do.
I loved how Avery had a relationship with her half siblings even though her father was a prick to do what he did. I thought it was great that she finally stood up to him and let him know how his failures effected her life.
Grey was easy to love not because he was hot or determined but for the simple fact that he wanted to stand by Avery no matter what. He was in her corner and always trying to look out for her and do the right thing.
This book was a little different from Phillips earlier work. The sex scenes held more details and plenty of dirty words. This just added to the story in my opinion. The one thing I do wish was that the story was longer. I believe this could have been a full length book with more details on the courting and the crazy fan. I would have enjoyed reading about the weeks they were together.
Carly's writing is captivating and keeps you coming back for more. If you haven't started this series like I haven't I suggest you do. I know I will.

This is Avery Dare's story and though part of a series you could easily read as a stand alone but with less appreciation for the siblings who show up in the story. Avery and Grey have a second chance romance opportunity when Grey decides he no longer wants to be in his rock band and he is heading back home to Miami and Avery.
Grey up and left five years ago searching for the big break. It was a chance for him to prove his worth to his real father and the opportunity to get away from his loving mom and his janitor father-in-law of whom he was embarrassed. That also meant he up and left one day his girlfriend Avery.
Avery is a girl already insecure due to daddy issues and now she had been abandoned yet again. In the five years that has passed she really has never had a solid relationship. Now with Grey back in the picture she is not sure her heart or her head can handle another chance with Grey.
Unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me. I normally love second chance romances but I just don't think Grey did enough to warrant anyone's good graces. Avery was annoying in her sexual naivete yet was blazing up the sheets and able to have multiple O's with Grey. Too frustrating. It was also frustrating that they have more than one issue or person trying to ruin their relationship.
Without being endeared to either the hero or heroine and not really feeling their connection, I am unable to go beyond 3 stars for this edition in the series. I have better enjoyed the other books in the series and so I will most likely continue to read as I want to see what Tyler's problem is with Ella but I don't think they are getting the next book.

I had such high hopes for this book and unfortunately for me it totally fell flat. Avery Dare and Grey Kingston are high school sweethearts. That is until fame pulls him away from her and he becomes a famous rocker. Years later when she is doing great in her life and loves her job as an online blogger she gets an unexpected invite from Grey for her to come see one of his concerts. So, she goes and catches him in exactly the position she fears. Around half naked groupies.
The rest of the story is exactly what you would think....him chasing her down to give him another chance. Yada, yada, yada.... But as a twist, a stalker of Avery's is thrown into the mix...which honestly, I could have done without. It was a terrible storyline and just did not fit in the book at all. The whole story itself dragged on, the plot was mediocre and the sex scenes seemed forced and lukewarm. If I find myself putting the book down constantly to do other things, its just not a winner for me.
I was disappointed and probably would not read any sequels.

This time the rock star is actually one who is ready to get out of the business, as he's done being on the road, and really wants to get back to the one girl he always loved and to prove to her that he wants her back and will be what she needs. Grey's career however has contained many fans, some a little crazy, such as one stalker that will come out of the woodwork to threaten Avery, as well as all the fans that want to blame Avery for supposedly causing the band to break up. But she isn't truly the reason, there are many others, including a druggie member that they are tired of working with until he gets help, as well as a slimy manager that Grey is ready to be done with. Avery doesn't really want to be in the limelight either, as she had to deal with that in her past, when it was found out that her dad had another family. She has very overprotective brothers as well, who don't like her being with Grey either. The brothers, and I think other family and friends, are who the rest of the series will center around.

Loved it! My favorite Dare story yet. We've had hints and glimpses of Avery and Grey's story throughout the series and I am so glad it lived up to expectations. Definitely a book I recommend.

Comfort in the Chaos
It's about time! It's taken until now to learn what happened at the concert in Olivia and Dylan's story. Avery Dare and Greyson Kingston have history. Some good, some bad. In any case, their reunion doesn't go as planned, but I like that we finally learn what transpired.
When Grey returns, the man he's become is one heck of a dirty talker, and I love it! It's funny and cheesy on occasion. 😄
Avery Dare: “Now can we get dressed so I can eat my muffin?”
Greyson Kingston: “Not unless I can eat your muffin first.”
I love how supportive Grey is of Avery and vice versa. They both have challenges to conquer, many stemming from actions from an outside party, but the gentle nudge, strong hand, or several other indicators makes it easy to root for them.
I read along with the audio book. The narrator is Sophie Eastlake. I enjoyed listening and look forward to the next experience.

This series just gets better with each new book.
Avery and Grey's story is compelling from the start. I love rock star novels, perhaps because music is an important part of my own life. Maybe that's why this book resonated with me so much. Or maybe it's because the event Avery organizes is so moving and awesome ...

I liked the concept but I didn't really fall in love with either the characters or the overall story. It wasn't bad, no I can't say that. It's just that perhaps it wasn't for me, since I don't usually enjoy second chance romances.
