The first story " Gora Somajer Jolshaghor" explores the mindset of the orthodox society. Mob culture where people can become cruel within moments notice is carefully depicted in this story. When humans participate in collective violence the weight of guilt is divided indeed. I wanted to take a peak into the perspective of Zulekha. I wondered why she was muted in the narrative. The answer lies within the tale of orthodox society where women are deliberately suppressed.
The second story describes death and loyalty. He portrays death carefully in the story. Despite the overall morbidity in the story, he carefully averts our attention to the group of women taking bath. We all run with the mute child and follow his curiosity where writer is taking us next.
"Neelsagor Express" is undoubtedly my favorite story in the book. Amon and Jhilam, just like their names, represented man and woman whose religious identities were not explored. I was on a train ride with Jhilam and joined her on the journey to maternity. Imam saheb's hands join in gratitude with response to a namaskar. The newborn has been sent by God in the purest form from heaven with no names and no religion. Subtleties in this story about humanity are like gems waiting to be found by the reader.
