Step through the Rift and into the wild and wicked world of the Immortal West.

Beautiful and cunning, Claire Lowell is determined to repay her uncle’s kindness, no matter the cost. He faces financial ruin, and she refuses to stand by and simply watch, even if she is just a woman. Answering a wealthy merchant’s newspaper ad for a mail-order bride could be the opportunity of a lifetime, and Claire won't waste it, no matter the risk, no matter her age. Just because she's forty doesn't mean she couldn't make a great wife for a western man.

Hidden just beyond the fertile plains, where two great rivers converge, a portal between worlds awaits. Enter the Rift at your own peril…

Claire sets out for Carson City in a wagon train, leaving her life, her uncle, and Boston behind. Civilization gives way to rolling hills, clear blue skies, and bumpy roads carved by wagon wheels. In the blink of an eye, Claire's difficult journey upends, and things are no longer beautiful and safe. The world she's now traveling through is not the same one she's always known—the shadowy land is filled with fantastical creatures born from whispered secrets and fairy tales.

Despite the turn in circumstance and with her ruggedly handsome vampire escort, who also happens to ride for the Pony Express, or whatever it's called in this alternate universe, Claire is determined to secure her future and fortune in Carson City. But the wicked king ruling this dark new realm with brute force and Fae magic wants Claire for himself, and his intentions are far more nefarious than any unwed human man's desires.

Claire doesn’t care who wants her or why. She’s going to bring this world to its knees, one nightmare creature at a time.

Salvation or Damnation? The fate of the Immortal West is in the hands of this clever city girl and her mysterious vampire escort, but will they be able to work together to stop the evil king before the world fractures entirely?

Claire and Blake's Adventurw . . .

Claire Lowell at the age of 40 wants to help her uncle who is facing financial hardship in Boston. So she answers an ad to be a mail-order bride to a wealthy merchant and heads out West. But as the wagon train goes into an area where two rivers come together, there is a portal between worlds and she is snatched up in the Rift. The creatures she sees here are nothing like the reality she knows. But she doesn’t falter. She follows the vampire escort in this alternate universe, still believing she will reach Carson City and her groom.

When she finds that her future husband Donley has sold her to the Fae king, which rider escort Blake had not known, she is determined to make everyone responsible for her situation pay for what they have done. Does she really have no hope of returning to her former life? Will she partner with her vampire guide Blake who rescues her from the king? Or will she be taking over the king’s realm by the time she gets her revenge?

This strong woman is very unlike the other females of this time period, and this trait will help her in her actions against the king and surviving in the alternate universe. She doesn’t back down and she is determined to achieve her goal. But can a mere human take on the magical Fae? Or will her vampire escort prove to be the deciding factor in her success?

I thought that this was a very intriguing read. The combination of paranormal and western romance was fresh, and I found it fresh and appealing. I thought the main characters were likable and the story held my attention well. The chemistry was good, and the burn is slow as the story unfolds. I could 100% understand why the romance was slow burning but I gotta be honest and say I would have loved to see some more heat here. This is my frank, freely posted review.

This is book one of the Immortal West series and the main character is Claire Lowell, a single woman approaching forty living in Boston, who was raised by her uncle Silas from a young age, who taught her all the thing he had learnt in the west, from playing card games, riding a horse, to even shooting a hand gun and rifle. Not the usual sort of education for a woman in the 1860’s. Her uncle is facing financial problems with huge debts and she wants to pay him back for all he has done for her, so she has answered an advertisement in a newspaper from a wealthy merchant out West who is looking for a mail order wife. They have exchanged a number of letters and even images of each other. Claire is lucky to look younger than she is and this is her opportunity to do something for her uncle and could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Her journey to the west is a long one in a group of wagons, although her husband to be has paid for her travel so far and then a horse for the final part of the journey onwards. She has problems relating to the rest of the women on the wagon train, and even manages to annoy most of the men, who don’t know how to act with a woman as strong minded as her. But what she doesn’t expect is for things to go wrong, just before they reach Carson City.
The man she is going to meet, has arranged for a rider to collect her before she arrives at the fort in Carson. But before the rider Blake reaches her, the horse she is on gets spooked and gallops far away from the wagon train, leaving her completely lost. What she doesn’t realise, is that she has managed to travel through a small rift, a portal between two worlds. The world she has entered is dangerous and nothing like anything she has ever experienced. Blake finds her lost in some caves and manages to lead her out of them and starts her on the last part of the journey to meet the man she is to marry. But the more he gets to know her on their journey, the more he hates keeping secret exactly where she has ended up and the fact she can never return home! The land is filled with strangely coloured creatures and dangerous beings. Her rider is actually a vampire and is hired to escort people between human settlements. These settlements are cloaked by magic done by witches, to protect them from the fae who would use, abuse and kill any humans they can get their hands on.
She soon finds that her future husband is in fact selling her to the fae king, who will use her to bring more of his children into existence and then kill her when she is of no further use to him. Rider Blake did not know that was going to happen to her and tries to find where she was taken. But Claire is far from the weak and helpless female many expect her to be. She is determined to make the men responsible for her predicament pay, bringing them and this strange world to their knees and destroy all the horrible creatures they face. A very strong woman, tricked into travelling to an alternative universe, with no hope of return to her former life. She will make them pay for treating her like this and manages to get some help along the way. A very interesting read with very diverse characters and a good start to a challenging storyline to continue in the next book. I received an ARC copy of this book form BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

The Paranormal, Undead, and Otherwise Immortal West

Historical romance is my main reading jam, although I do enjoy a good paranormal read occasionally as well (obviously!). So I was delighted to see the first chapter written from the heroine's perspective read just like any well-written mail-order bride old west romance. The heroine, though, is no wilting eastern city lady, though. Her uncle, into whose care she came at a young age because of the death of her parents, taught her how to shoot straight, play cards to win, and how to handle men. While she's never married, she's no shrinking flower. Hoping to save her uncle from financial ruin, she answered the mail-order bride ad. But things quickly change in the second chapter as she makes her way to her groom in Carson City, Nevada. The world known to humans is not the only one in existence out west! The Rift separates our reality from a fantastical plane more born of nightmares than even the heroine's previous worst thoughts of what her journey west might be. Will she and the vampire escort hired by her would-be groom get her through the immortal west unscathed? What precisely will she face? You'll have to check out the book yourself to find out! Highly recommended.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

UNDEAD is the first book in the Immortal West series. This series will need to be read in the order of release for maximum understanding.

I love Liza Street’s Charmslinger series. Her “rift” happened when the monsters escaped the bowels of the earth and started taking over the land – usually by eating the humans who had made their lives in her dystopian old west. So, when I saw that there was a rift… I thought it would be in the same world. It’s not. I now have two rifted worlds to love. This rift is more like the hole that Alice stumbled into. Claire enters a new world below ground… and the monsters are just as fierce as I expected, but there are also critters to love.

Luckily, Claire is an unusual woman for her day and time. Raised by her uncle, she is forward-thinking. She would give many modern-day feminists a run for their money, but she can also be charming and sweet.

This was a great slow-burn, dystopian, romance. I’m looking forward to this series continuing.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via BookSprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

It is the year 1861 and Claire becomes a mail order bride as her uncle needs her help to get him out of debt. Mr. Buchanan sent her enough money for her trip out West, so she takes the train to Illinois. He offers $1000 + travel expenses and might even give more money to her! She is very excited as her uncle raised her. She is good at shooting and doing things that men can do. She has a very can do attitude for someone of that time. Plus, she is 40 years old. She adapts to situations so fast, I was really impressed with her. She is a very different character than anything else I’ve ever read.

It was going to take months for her to reach Utah territory where she was supposed to meet her groom. She gets in trouble on the wagon train because she doesn’t believe in being prim and proper like most women of the time.

Blake is a vampire from another realm who was paid to deliver Claire from the human world into the Rift. Once a human goes thru the Rift there is no return. So not everything is as Claire believes it is. I was just as disappointed as her. But the book is soooo action packed and you just feel for her! And for Blake, he is awesome!

I laughed almost the whole time I was reading the book when she was with the wagon train. She drove the men crazy lol. Shooting, drinking, and cards. Ha!

I was impressed again once she realized what was truly going on. She just kicked so much… lol oh and when she gets angry- wooo watch out! It was very entertaining because if she says she will do something- she will do it! I can’t wait for the next book in the series! I have a feeling she is going to cause a revolution!

Claire, an orphan raised by her uncle, is traveling by train and wagon train to the Utah territory in 1861, in answer to an ad to marry Mr. Buchanan and get $1,000. She is quite a feisty woman, having been trained by her uncle to fight, shoot, gamble, and survive in the West. Blake Rider, a vampire, is hired by Donley, a sleazy bartender posing as Mr. Buchannan, to bring her into the Fae world for immoral purposes. The PoV switches between Claire and Blake at new chapters. An attraction between them grows first through mutual irritation, then admiration, and finally a strong magnetic pull they find impossible to resist. Several episodes threaten to separate them, but finally, they work together to defeat Donley and make humans safer in the Fae realm. The next book in the series, “Hybrid”, will continue the story.

This was just so much fun! I adore Claire. She’s sassy and spunky and nothing like the pampered, well-bred city miss her intended thinks he’s getting. Which, as it turns out, is a really good thing for Claire and just might be the biggest part of my delight in this story. There’s a very realistic feel to the “old west” of this book and Claire’s journey from Boston to Carson City benefits from that realism. It carries over when she crosses the Rift and makes the improbable things she discovers feel like common, everyday occurrences. Claire’s entrance into their world is going to turn everything upside down and I cannot wait to see what kind of chaos she creates next.

Undead is a paranormal romance with a historical western twist. Claire is trying to help her uncle because he's facing a financial crisis so she travels west to become a mail order bride. In order to get there she must cross the rift into the Fae Realm and things get interesting from there. This is book one and a great start to the Immortal West series. This is a slow burn romance with paranormal western twists that pulled me into the story. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

This is the first books in the Paranormal Women's Fiction Trilogy by K. Adrienne and L. A. Boruff.
It's the introduction of Claire, a 40 year old on her way to her fiance. As a mail-order-bride she's on her way out west. The story is set in the 1860ies. It's a slow burn with some lengths. And then she meets Blake. He's sent to bring her to her new home. And that's the point where is becomes twisty, but sorry not sorry no spoilers here.
Only so much, this is a good read, suspenseful, intriguing.

This was an interesting and different read!

This book is just the beginning of a story that is different than most paranormal reads. This is paranormal mixed with the wild west. I really enjoyed the strong woman that Claire is, and that she can do what most men do but better. I also enjoyed Blake, I'm curious to see what happens with them and a little more romance in the next. This was a clean read.
I am looking forward to see what happens next!

Found a terrific new series!

If you enjoy PWF or historical fantasy you are in for a real treat!

The story takes place in the old west, but this mail-order bride is no naive weekling. Our heroine is a strong independent woman who finds herself in a position that brings out her strengths!

No spoilers, just let me say I highly recommend this book if you are looking for something a little different in UF.

Great Read. All around!

This story is a creative, unique paranormal western romance and one I really enjoyed. Claire is forty years old and looking for a way to help her uncle. She then answers a newspaper ad for a mail-order bride and sets out in a wagon train headed for Carson City. With action, intrigue, suspense, and a sexy vampire escort, this story made for an entertaining read.

Excellent start to a cool old West alternate universe. I loved the characters and the slow pacing (lots of time for learning the characters’ feelings). I didn’t like the super rushed ending or the fact we don’t get much emotion from Claire when she realizes she’s stuck beyond the rift. Really excited for the next two books!

a different slant on the maiden and vampire story

When I started this book I didn’t expect to like it but it pulled me in until I reached the end and I kept looking for more. I really came to love the characters and can hardly wait to read more.
