Bird migration captivates the human imagination, yet for most of us, key aspects of the phenomenon remain a mystery. In this book, renowned ornithologist and author John H. Rappole reveals intriguing results of recent scientific studies on migration, explaining their importance for birders, nature lovers, and researchers alike.
Y'know, when I wrote the draft of this review, I had a whole rant evaluation of the attitude and hypocrisy this guy exposes towards the end of the book, but nobody will read it or care. So I'll keep it short and sweet. This book gave a lot of really interesting information. He might have even swayed me-- his hypothesis makes a lot of sense and he provides [apparently] good data. Lost a star for organization (which could have been optomized in my opinion) and his weird complex that he could have just.... ended the book a chapter and a half earlier but decided to write and publish anyway.
Dr. Rappole challenges the scientific orthodoxy of the origins of bird migration by laying out his 50 years of of field studies and the conclusive evidence that resulted.
