Well worth the time!

I read this as a boxset so I managed to read all three stories one right after another. When I first started, wasn't sure if I like the main character, she came across as cold, distant and very, very mouthy. The way the story is written is in first person and told as it happens....a lot of authors don't handle that well and it makes me leery but MS Clarke managed to keep a handle on it and the story slowly drew me in, by the end of the first story, I was hooked. The premise of the story arc and main character is different from most of the others in this genre. The character, Calamity Jane is snarky, flawed, but gifted to see and interact physically with ghosts. She lands in a unique position to help solve how the ghosts die, bringing closure for them and those who loved them . The mysteries are well thought out and you can see why Cal does what she does even when her mouth runs away and causes more problems. What is great is this author lets her characters grow as the stories move along and by the end of the third story I found I was cheering Cal along and wishing the story wasn't over. Now that isn't something that happens very often!! Fingers cross this isn't the last of Cal and her family\friends.

Silent Graves: by Alexandria Clarke - a 3-Book Box-set in the Calamity James Mystery series; containing Book 1 "If She Only Knew", Book 2 "The Darkest Secret", Book 3 "Once Upon A Lie".
My review:
This is a new to me author and I like her story telling ability.
In these first 3 books, we are introduced to Calamity James and her ability to see and interact with ghosts. The reader gets to know Calamity and the rest of the citizens of the small town where she grew up, what made her run away, her angry interactions with a variety of people from her past and her decision to stop running. This small town has at least 6 deputies and 2 detectives in the sheriff's department and the sheriff hires Calamity as a Special Deputy to help with his investigations. This is based on his observations of her grandfather's success rate in solving unusual crimes with unorthodox methods, when said grandfather was the mentor of the sheriff. The sheriff places a huge amount of trust in Calamity's ability to do the same.
For me over the course of these 3 books, I liked finding out about Calamity's past, getting an insight into her relationship with her sister Winnie and being introduced to a variety of odd ball characters. The end of Book 3 is NOT a cliff hanger but sets up Book 4 nicely. The books are able to be read as stand alone books, but my suggestion would be to buy this box set. A great read. 4 stars.
For me this box set is good value as at the time I purchased this box set, it was $ 1.01 USD on amazon.com for the kindle version (print 798 pages).

Loved it.

I sure hope this isn't the last book in this series. I could read this forever. In this book Calamity has to kill the strongest ghost yet and save the town. Also, she has to get away from crazy FBI people who want to experiment on her. The excitement is over the top crazy and totally nuts.

riveting is the proper adjective for this series

I wasn’t too taken with cal at first but once I got to the second book, I just couldn’t put it down. The storyline has enough false trails to keep the reader interested but it always comes back to the main story. It is a delightful read and I’m on to the next in the series

The writing style is excellent. Loved the snarky dialogue. Beautiful descriptions of scenes without belaying the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters with all their flaws and strengths. Looking forward to the next book.

He'll of a plot

I loved this series. Read the first three books in about 2 days. A great plot, A bit far fetched in places, but I did like the paranormal aspect of the stories.
