I went into this book with the expectation that it would be a light read just for some project for school. To my surprise, this book was much more than that and it was a very engaging book. This book was just a classic story telling book. This book was about a group of boys that learn about a boy who had gone missing and passed away and had been found in the woods next to the railroad. The boys planed a trip to go see the boy by the railroad. Along the way they faced many challenges such as wild animals, railroad crossing, and personal conflicts. We also learn about the boys and their personal lives. Some of the boys have family problems, self esteem, and grief.

I chose to rate this book a 3 out of 5 because I thought that it was just a normal book and it wasn't that impressive. I think that it could have used some more detail and lacked in some places. There were times in the book that it was boring and moved slowly. It left me with mixed feelings. It definitely has some great characters that are well developed and making their struggles relational to any reader. King captures the emotions of the boys and illustrates the unbreakable bond of childhood friendships. However where the body falls is cut short in its pacing and focus. Overall i think this book is still a solid read and i would recommend it. It is a book that captures the good and bad of growing up. However it didn't quite achieve the emotional impact i hoped for.

The ending of The Body stood out as my favorite part of the book because it was the most reflective and emotionally impactful. After all the boys’ struggles and adventures, their decision to anonymously report Ray Brower’s body felt like a powerful moment of maturity. It wasnt what they had expected the outcome to be but it marked a truing point in the book and in their lives. This symbolizes there transition from childhood to adulthood. As the boys grew older they drifted apart, and they went from being close to just a distant relationship.

One quote from the end of the book that stood out to me was, “Love has teeth which bite and the wounds will never close” (69). This line shows the theme of the story and resonated with me on a personal level. It reflects the pain and permanence of growing up, losing connections, and facing life’s inevitable changes. The ending left me thinking about my own friendships and the fleeting yet transformation nature of childhood experiences. While the book had its flaws, this powerful conclusion tied the story together and left a lasting impression.

The Body by Stephan King is a very interesting and suspenseful novella. He made the reader stay on the edge of their seat the entire time. King’s writing makes you feel many emotions when reading the story and it just makes the story so much better. In the beginning, he makes you feel bad for all of the kid’s in the story because he tells you their back stories. Most of them grew up in a bad home and struggled a lot which took an effect on me. He also made the reader feel moments of suspense, especially when they were trying to find the body. I connected to the story because my friends and I are also very adventurous and are always playing weird games, just like Gordie’s friend group did.

Gordie was an ordinary kid, who lived an ordinary life. Until his brother ended up dying in a vehicle accident in the Army. Gordie’s brother was a huge part of his life and he really looked up to him, so it really affected him. Other than that, he had a great group of friends who had a great imagination and were always fun, who all had their own struggles at home. He lived in a normal neighborhood in Maine where not much would happen. Until one day when the news announced that a kid named Ray had gone missing, and no one knew how. This intrigued his friend group because they were very adventurous, but they got more intrigued once Gordie and Teddy overheard Teddy’s brother and his friend talking about how they saw Ray’s body. Vern said, “You guys want to go see a dead body?” (King 9), and that is where the real adventure began. They ended up going off on a journey to find the body and in the end they did end up finding it. They didn’t end up doing anything with it though, they just left it there.

I personally have mixed feelings about the book. I felt the whole book was good except for the end. The ending just felt very unfinished and wasn’t as exciting as the rest of the book. Although, I did like hearing about Gordie’s life at the end, and how it was going. I would recommend the book to anyone who likes adventure and murder stories. The book shows a lot of adventure when they are all searching for the body. I feel that the book didn’t live up to all of the other Stephan King books I have read previously.

Det var en bok jag behövde läsa för engelska. Ingången bok jag själv skulle ha valt, inte direkt det jag letar efter i en bok gällande genre osv. Förväntade mig inte direkt slutet. Skulle dock gärna vilja kolla på filmen stand by me.

DNF.

I just couldn’t get into it, there was a lot of stuff that I thought didn’t make sense and I found it really hard to follow.

The Body by Stephen King didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. While I had high hopes going in, I found the pacing really slow, and the plot didn’t feel as gripping as I expected from a King novel. The story revolves around four boys going on a journey to find a dead body, but honestly, I found their interactions more tedious than intriguing.

The characters were okay, but I struggled to really connect with them. There were moments where I felt like the dialogue dragged on, and it made me lose interest. It seemed like King focused too much on nostalgia and childhood reflections, which didn’t resonate with me as much. I get that it’s a coming-of-age story, but it just didn’t have the emotional punch I was hoping for.

While I understand why some people love it, I personally didn’t find The Body to be as impactful or exciting as I thought it would be. It was a bit of a letdown, and I was expecting more suspense and less filler. Overall, I’d give it 2 out of 5 stars.
