"The Silver Eye began in 2009. It is an action-adventure webcomic of the Fantasy persuasion, written from a Christian worldview.
Two rival royal families are always at odds. The conflict reaches a point where one child king, Apen, sacrifices himself and his country to prevent another war. This leads to some disastrous consequences. The story follows his journey to try to set things right, and if he’s going to do so, he has to work alongside members of his rival family."
The art is very cool and I like all the charecters. The only things that makes it a 4 for me is that the story is kinda hard to follow. There are so many charecetrs and different places, so knowing the plot/goal of the story is kinda hard. It might just be me though. I reccomend this comic!
I somehow just now noticed that this masterpiece is listed on Goodreads.
I don't even know where to begin to describe how much this webcomic has meant to me and continues to mean to me. A friend recommended it to me when I was in high school, I fell into a massive hyperfixation, read and reread it, read the comments and theories, looked at every piece of art on Laura's DA (back in the days when DA was still pale green and... actually functioned as a website) and I have kept up with it ever since. It has been a light to me in dark places.
Laura Hollingsworth is one of the best writers I have ever encountered. The characters in TSE feel like old friends at this point. I have watched the younger ones mature and the older ones learn from their mistakes. Many of them inspire me.
The plot is complex, multifaceted, and at times confusing (I'm still trying to figure out what was up with the recent time skip (???) that happened in Greenway.) The themes are beautifully woven throughout the story, and are also too complex and beautiful to really explain here. In fact, I just... don't really have words to explain how good this comic is.
Also, there's a ship with red sails and a dragon with stained-glass wings, so you should really just go read it.
CONTENT (thus far) Young women angrily asks if she cants go on a quest becuase she's a girl/blind, suicide (mentioned ex), mention illagitament/born out of wedlock children, potentially gross medical description, magic(maybe elemental?), profanity and a few euphemisms, divorce
OTHER TRIGGER WARNINGS magical manipulation, light romantic touch
MESSAGES favouritism can lead to problems - not everyone is who they are one first impression - hope - determination
So much fun! I love the fantasy, I love the characters, and I adore the artwork. I have never enjoyed a web-based comic, or any comic for that matter, as much as I am enjoying The Silver Eye.
